Why did I only just discover how hilarious Ainsley's wonderful face is?

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

Because you don't browse 4chan.

[–]laddergoat89 6 points7 points ago

You are correct. I do not. I intend to keep it that way.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points ago

More power to you. Just remember that on the human centipede that is the Internet, Reddit is behind 4chan.

[–]thosethatwere 4 points5 points ago

I think the up/down vote on this string of comments kind of tells the tale about how many 4chan users read reddit.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

I also have tabs for Something Awful, and am listening to a YTMND.

Reddit has the superior format and function for discussing news and ideas. 4chan is better at image posting, being an image board. Forums are the jack of all trades.

Allowing single image postings on Reddit is a fucking disaster in terms of what it has done to Reddit's content quality.

[–]laddergoat89 0 points1 point ago

I am 100% fine with that.

[–]opoipo 1 point2 points ago

oh wow

[–]hedgecore77 38 points39 points ago*

My favourite was from a batch of resumes I got for a co-op position a few months ago.

  • (some random attribute)

  • (some other random attribute)

  • Pays attention to detail

... blank bullet point killed me.

Edit: found it!

[–]bwukki 11 points12 points ago

I just realized that I probably put more effort into my Reddit posts than a lot of people do on their resumes.

[–]morpheousmarty 19 points20 points ago

In all fairness, you get a ton more feedback from reddit.

[–]Eat_Every_Vegan 2 points3 points ago

Also, definitely better proofreading.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

After seeing other's resumes after a workshop, compared to mine even before the workshop...

I'm not too worried about finding another job later on.

[–]hieroller 1 point2 points ago

Haha that is amazing.

[–]infectedapricot 1 point2 points ago

Brilliant! And it was already a crock of shit up until then. "Hardworking, reliable, flexible..." You don't say? Unless you put proof this is meaningless junk, everybody's going to claim this about themselves.

[–]hedgecore77 1 point2 points ago

To be fair it was a first term co-op for an IT support placement. They're right at the start of their careers so they've mainly got soft skills to go with. The blank bullet point though...

[–]omgz0r 0 points1 point ago

It's clearly there for you to fill in an attribute you're seeking. Sort of like when you level up a character and get to pick specialities.

But to be serious, I just finished going through a Co-op program, and that's pretty tame compared to some goof-ups I heard about, such as getting the company name completely wrong, or just sucking at the English language in general.

[–]hedgecore77 0 points1 point ago

Hah. One guy i would ask a simple question to, like "Are you familiar with Microsoft Outlook?" and hed just stare... then hed realize he was asked a question, and woyld talk about his programming project from last semester. Sigh.

My resume looks more like Mac and Charlie's

http://youtu.be/ayCjEeiVfyc?t=2m36s

  • Interviewer reading over their duo resume: Ok, then we have 2005 to 2006. Education?
  • Charlie: All year!
  • Interviewer: Okay ...two years. It just says "odd jobs here and there".
  • Charlier: Here and there. But mostly here.
  • Interviewer: ...and there.

[–]PropJoeFoSho[!] 1 point2 points ago

going on a blooper spree, my afternoon is shot

[–]Captain_Compost 5 points6 points ago

Ainsley Harriot is my friend's uncle, coincidentally her dad is john shuttleworth

[–]mr-dogshit 2 points3 points ago

Jilted John!

I fucking love that song!

Tell him that!

Point at his face and tell him mr-dogshit from the internet loves his fucking song! Do it!

[–]alloftheducks 2 points3 points ago

It's a nightmare scenario

[–]cubistpanther 1 point2 points ago

I know, I'm feeling like the man that lives on that farm which sits in the middle of the M62 right now.

[–]mrjames 0 points1 point ago

Eggs and gammon, poor Rhiannon,

Ken had wind...

Love Shuttleworth.

[–]I_DRINK_PERIOD_BLOOD 44 points45 points ago

I can't relate to this.

[–]itsjustallgone 27 points28 points ago

Me neither. I always feel like I'm walking a tightrope between selling myself short and declaring how goddamn great I am.

[–]doesntakethehighroad 11 points12 points ago

I've reached a point in my career where the Dunning-Kruger effect has kicked in. My resume looks far better than my actual abilities are and I'm not even making any of it up.

I recently worked at two hard-to-get-in, everyone-wants-to-work-there type of big name companies. These are the companies that other companies model themselves after. (Think Google scale but just not Google.) This causes me to get a flood of recruiters dying to place me in senior lead positions, which is great but my problem is... I'm not very good at what I do. I'm very smart intelligence-wise, but my experience level sucks. I'm at 15 years so I should be a lead developer but I'm not and nor do I feel like one. This is because I spent 12 of those 15 years in shitty little companies doing shitty web development not really taking my career seriously or trying to get much better.

The next time I look for a job I am going to fudge my resume to look considerably less experienced. I don't want to be a lead and I don't like them asking me why I'm not a lead and bothering me about why my career may be stagnating (one interviewer hinted that it was because I bounced around between a few roles).

[–]kylecaballero 0 points1 point ago

Same. I worked for two years at a Start up and I did a lot of different jobs there. On my resume there is no other way to say it but "Operations Manager" now I am back in school applying for student positions and although I in no way feel like a manager I don't want to go back to brainless-repetitive work. although deep down thats all I feel qualified for.

[–]doesntakethehighroad 1 point2 points ago

It just sucks when 2nd year developers are out-shining you and you were hired on to be the "big time expert" yet you're a sheep in wolves' clothing. I'm excellent with writing algorithms. I'm not very good with architecting very large systems.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Dude, you're selling yourself short. Smart people always underestimate their ability. Just go for it. Even better, now that you have all this top-notch resume material, take a few classes on business and management. Apply for management of a team rather than development. If you are a people person, you'll fit the role.

[–]doesntakethehighroad 0 points1 point ago

There's a reason I don't work those 2 jobs anymore. Performance review.

[–]sven8705 2 points3 points ago

I have an interview in 3 hours. at first I was feeling a little better but now I kind of want to go kill myself. Thanks!

[–]totallynectar 0 points1 point ago

My interview is in 2 hours, for a job I shouldn't be working for. A previous coworker got me the interview and 'spoke very highly of me'.

I sent him my pitiful resume before he asked for an interview though, so what can he expect?

[–]omgz0r 0 points1 point ago

I'm just in the process of possibly securing a Senior developer position, despite the fact that I just graduated. I'm still waiting to receive my degree!

I find the whole thing absolutely absurd.

[–]underbridge 1 point2 points ago

I always look at my resume and think: Goddamn I'd hire me!

[–]ghettajetta 7 points8 points ago

I agree. I always feel like "who the fuck would hire me"

[–]matphoto 0 points1 point ago

Sweet now we have... one thing in common!

[–]Really_Bad_Slogan -4 points-3 points ago

I_DRINK_PERIOD_BLOOD - bro will be everywhere you go. fucking crazy

[–]CardboardHeatshield 8 points9 points ago

I read 'resume' as 'username', and the picture still made sense.. I think its time to take a break from reddit.....

[–]icon6262 5 points6 points ago

Ainsley Harriott, is that you?

[–]skond 2 points3 points ago

It puts the resume in the basket.

[–]fuckingcreep 3 points4 points ago

My resume sucks because I fucking suck. God I'm such an asshole.

[–]thefakkinshit 0 points1 point ago

Same.

[–]danceformeme 1 point2 points ago

HAHA im looking for an internship now. My resume looks cool, but once you get down to reading it actually describes in great detail how much b.s. I can produce/ how underqualified I am

[–]TimeTravelMishap 1 point2 points ago

If they ever want to make a black joker I vote for him just because of that smile.

[–]zemonstaaa 1 point2 points ago

IAMA Resume Writer, AMA...

[–]DownvoteALot 1 point2 points ago

Does consulting a resume writer really increase my chances to get hired?

[–]biggbuckz 0 points1 point ago

I'd say it depends on how terrible your resume is. I've looked at a number of my friends resumes, and some of them are just in terrible shape, and would greatly benefit from some sort of consultant (which I guess is what I do for them, but for free and I'm sure I'm not remotely as good as the professionals). A lot of times it just boils down to using "power verbs". You didn't "Help write requirements for new business process", you "Wrote business requirement documents for best-in-class training plan that was rolled out to over 250 associates"

[–]FartingBob 0 points1 point ago

"flipped burgers like a motherfucker."

Is that close enough?

[–]biggbuckz 1 point2 points ago

Actually I fully support that.

[–]zemonstaaa 1 point2 points ago

"Efficiently prepared well-seasoned hamburgers grilled according to health standard codes while maintaining delicious juices and flavour."

[–]zemonstaaa 0 points1 point ago

I have a power list of action verbs. "Developed and produced business requirement documents...". I also prefer skills-based resumes to chronological resumes.

[–]biggbuckz 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I think both chronological and skill based have their places. "Developed" is a personal favorite of mine... it's a gooden.

[–]zemonstaaa 0 points1 point ago

Yes. Would you like to see my stats?

[–]Steakers 1 point2 points ago

He has a reason to be that proud.

Those things are fucking delicious, and look how cheap they are!

[–]TheLoveKraken 0 points1 point ago

Where can I get these? I've never seen them in any supermarket.

[–]Steakers 0 points1 point ago

Last place I saw them for sale was poundland, no lie. They seem to have disappeared from supermarkets recently.

[–]TheLoveKraken 2 points3 points ago

69p in poundland? O_o

[–]FartingBob 0 points1 point ago

They do a lot of "x for £1" stuff as well, particularly on food.

[–]Steakers 0 points1 point ago

I do believe that poundland sells them in packs of 8, which carries a different price. Plus, poundland can be a rip off, so I wouldn't be surprised if they sold 6 for a quid in different packaging.

[–]MondayCreep 1 point2 points ago

Whenever I read my resume, I think, "whose resume is this?"

[–]grumpynuts 1 point2 points ago

When I review my resume

[–]I_I_II_III_IIIII 1 point2 points ago

Oh god. Looking at my resume is a cold reminder of how I'm a bad guy at business. I like to deny it. I just close my eyes and send it on its way.

The problem is I have a degree from a top 10-15 ranked school that everybody knows, and I've worked at a couple big names (one local, one worldwide) yet I have that lingering feeling of I don't know shit to back up some of the sheen on my resume.

Plus I graduated college very late, so I make it very difficult to determine how old I am. Most people would think about 5 years younger than I am which I think makes me look a lot better. My work history simply "doesn't go back" all the way, and I only list the school I graduated from.

[–]suo 2 points3 points ago

What's a resume and how do I get one?

[–]BONUSBOX 2 points3 points ago

you must stop in order to resume

[–]I_HATE_BUTTS 0 points1 point ago

Well you're right, it's very likeable. I can't see why anyone else wouldn't like it.

[–]thr33to3 0 points1 point ago

Can someone please shop some joker make-up on this dude??

[–]divester 0 points1 point ago

I have the same reaction...about MY resume,. not yours.

[–]ruin_ur_dinner 0 points1 point ago

Who needs words on a resume, when you can look at a picture of my face & clearly see I am well qualified

[–]comradeyeltsen 0 points1 point ago

I'm seriously considering pasting Ainsley Harriott's face over my resume, because it's easier to look at than my work history.

[–]psytrancedsquid 0 points1 point ago

I met him once in Australia. He is a nice guy, really friendly.

[–]czarchastic 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if OP found the pic first and tried to think of a relevant title for it, or if he really, really wanted to let people know how he feels about his resume.

[–]squarer00t 0 points1 point ago

Ainsley is a national treasure :)

Always a smile on his face, always cheers everyone up around him, full of energy, I haven't seen him on TV much these days....we've been flooded with TV chefs and he's been a bit forgotten about.

[–]h0ser 0 points1 point ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PpXr5UW_Tw here is the dude in action. I had no idea who he was and nobody posted a link to him so here you go.

[–]mspinkyy 0 points1 point ago

God bless Ainsley.

[–]DamOnalbArNunicorN 0 points1 point ago

That made me feel better after browsing /r/NSFL

[–]skinnymatters 0 points1 point ago

Saw this post maybe five times today, but this is the first time I read 'resume' and now 'username' so now I understand.

Just FYI.

[–]PissedOn 0 points1 point ago

Man, I think my resume is great, but it has a 0% success rate.

Resumes I've helped other people with, on the other hand, are at 100% job placement.

[–]Matwoj 0 points1 point ago

Just replying to save

[–]mr-dogshit 0 points1 point ago

In England we call a resumé a "Curriculum Vitae", or C.V.

[–]muppethead 0 points1 point ago

...an answer to a question nobody asked.

[–]dave1233 3 points4 points ago

Or just a statement that the learned scholar mr-dogshit wanted to share with the world.

[–]SirKeyboardCommando 0 points1 point ago

Ah yes, the esteemed and famed Mr. McDogshit.

[–]mofontes -2 points-1 points ago

Your resume probably gets thrown under the bus just like the rest of us.

[–]bearskinz 7 points8 points ago

I don't think you know what that means.

[–]falconx50 5 points6 points ago

no, mofontes is referring to trying to get a bus driver job. He's not qualified, so his resume usually gets thrown under the buses after the employer reads it

[–]EmperorNortonI 2 points3 points ago

As is tradition.

[–]ten_wooden_fingers -1 points0 points ago

I can't find the one where he's cooking his own head in the frying pan. Can anyone help?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

[–]Tandran -1 points0 points ago

[–]dave1233 5 points6 points ago

Then, good sir. I hate you!

[–]Millybat -1 points0 points ago

Same.

[–]Millybat 0 points1 point ago

I imagine he's capable of getting really angry and bludgeoning people to death with that pepper shaker. "I SAID FINELY CHOPPED, NOT SLICED"
