I really would not be surprised.

They are doing their job fantastically

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

This sums up my theory on westboro baptist church.

Close, but in reality the Westboro Baptist Church just want's you to punch them so they can sue you. That is really their whole scheme, they're a family of lawyers.

Perhaps, but I find that the more fundamentalist someone is, the more logically consistent they are, given their axiomatic assumptions. I have far more intellectual respect for a Fred Phelps than I do for a Rick Warren.

Religion exists to test us, to see if our atheist beliefs are pure!

sometimes this concept feels so real. I keep expecting them to burst out laughing and say 'oh man, you should have seen your face! Like I'd believe this crap!'

This reminds me of browsing the flat earth society forum. It's really just a whole lot of trolls putting forward a more fun version of Pastafarianism, but every hour or so some n00b comes along ready to attempt to prove them wrong.

Never heard of it, I'll have to check it out.

And /r/atheism is full of religious people trying to make atheists out to be a bunch of condescending pseudo-intellectual cocksuckers.

Are you familiar with Poe's Law?

It is impossible to be so extreme that nobody thinks you are serious. And if atheists are doing this, they should stop. First, religions look bad enough on their own, second, it would make the "moderates" who would actually be the most extreme think they are moderate, when they are not. And finally some people will think they are serious, and join in their extremism.
