I get wrong number texts occasionally. They're always stupid, incomprehensible, and not funny.

[–]Retawtrams 1 point2 points ago

I'm with this guy. I've been receiving texts and calls from "Christina's" friends. They are not funny, or interesting. Boring, lame, not worth the time.

[–]my_cat_joe 0 points1 point ago

For a couple years I got texts for a person named "T." They were mostly of the "I'd like to buy some drugs, T" variety. There were occasional sexts, but nothing graphic or remotely funny.

[–]andrewsmith1986[M] 175 points176 points ago*

The mods have been thinking about removing iphone screen shots.

Any input would be great.

Again, nothing is certain and I would surely have another poll before any major rule change.

*They would not be banned just because they can be faked.

[–]13onerman 22 points23 points ago

Tack on facebook and twitter caps and we have a deal.

[–]Dirk_Digglet 36 points37 points ago

Can you ban FB posts while you are at it?

[–]DaWaweepopGuiwd 25 points26 points ago

reddit is the new FB unfortunately. the majority of posts are about shit no one cares about.

check out my dog. isn't he/she cute? check out my unique cat. isn't he/she unique? check out my kid. isn't he/she cute? check out what i did. aren't i awesome? check out what i made. isn't it awesome? look who i met. aren't i so cool? look at what i said to someone on the internet. aren't i so edgy?

[–]cynognathus 7 points8 points ago

And a shitload of "That moment when" gifs.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Awkward moment when an scumbag epic fail trolls you and leaves you forever alone.

I feel dirty typing this in public . Afraid someone might look on my phone and be disgusted

[–]Kensei5000 3 points4 points ago

The issue seems to stem from an increasing "self" focus. It all comes down to "LOOK AT ME" karma whoring as opposed to sharing things that others are likely to find universally engaging.

As hard as it may be for many to accept, nobody cares who we are, what we have, what we've done or who you met (with the exception of allowing a trigger point for them to talk about themselves for a bit). The most interesting posts are relatable, abstract, funny and typically NOT focusing on ones achievements. It is the focus on the "others" that make things work. Just to reinforce a point, in-jokes are not funny. They are the single most obvious evidence of self-centred behaviour, and on-par with being a hipster.

[–]Terwat 0 points1 point ago

Thats pretty much summed up the entirety of reddit.

[–]bhig3 0 points1 point ago

At least we can downvote if we don't want to see it.

[–]OhSoMexicellent 2 points3 points ago

Please make this happen, I can't stand them and most if not all are so clearly faked.

[–]the-fritz 0 points1 point ago

clearly fake and/or clearly not funny. "look somebody made a typo on facebook ROOOOFFFL!!!!!"

There already exists r/facepalm for people who don't get enough stupidity from their own facebook comrades.

[–]andrewsmith1986 4 points5 points ago

Not enough users wanted them gone.

[–]the-fritz 1 point2 points ago

How do you know? There already exists an r/facepalm. Users who think fake facebook conversations are funny could subscribe to that subreddit. So people like me don't have to downvote+hide so many submissions.

[–]andrewsmith1986 2 points3 points ago

I made a poll and not enough users said to remove them.

[–]the-fritz 1 point2 points ago

When where? Is it too late for me to vote?

[–]the-fritz 0 points1 point ago

The majority said "No". 53.71% http://i.imgur.com/XNAxa.png

[–]andrewsmith1986 1 point2 points ago

Not enough for a removal to me.

6400 out of 1.68 million.

[–]the-fritz 0 points1 point ago

but enough to remove eCards? Sounds a bit biased to me.

btw. I didn't downvote you. I just saw that your comments got downvoted. Have an upvote.

[–]DBWhits 0 points1 point ago

Damn it. Wish I had seen that poll. Any FB post just pisses me off. Stay on FB if you love it so g-damn much...

[–]andrewsmith1986 1 point2 points ago

I'll ask again in a month or so.

I don't want to make any changes without the majority of users behind me.

[–]Dr___Awkward 0 points1 point ago

Waitwaitwait. People are downvoting you? Has the world gone mad?

[–]Dirk_Digglet 4 points5 points ago

Hm. Perhaps I've overestimated the intelligence of the average Reddit user.

[–]pigpill 14 points15 points ago

Why is intelligence being critiqued in this situation? Some people enjoy stupid things that they know are fake. Sure others may believe all these iphone shots and facebook shots are real but why try to take something out of /funny just because some people don't think it is funny.

[–]pjsand 2 points3 points ago

GET ON MY (sense of humor) LEVEL BITCH!

[–]the-fritz 1 point2 points ago

Why not move that facebook/iphone stuff to its own subreddit? That way people who like it can subscribe to it and people with real humour don't have to see it.

[–]kaden_sotek 2 points3 points ago

We should just rename this subreddit "the-fritz's-idea-of-funny" to get rid of any ambiguity.

[–]the-fritz 0 points1 point ago

Yes!

[–]pigpill 0 points1 point ago

I think having dedicated sub reddits are a great way to focus content. But the fact is the r/funny is a general sub and a default sub. It gets more exposure to the masses. Now of course karma whores will abuse this, but it also lets people who may not understand or have the time to manage sub reddits see more general content. This is just my opinion. It really does not matter to me to much. I don't really like the iphone convos, but I think things should be consistent and fair across all boards.

[–]Quixotic_Troglodyte 2 points3 points ago

I overestimated the intelligence of the average Reddit user and got slammed for it. I was in r/funny as well and wrote that all top-tier comedy on YouTube is geared toward children--which it is--and was downvoted into Dante's seventh level of Hell.

[–]IsItReallyYouBooBoo 1 point2 points ago

Just went to that video. It's so fucking stupid and not funny that I could not expect the users who watch it to be able to articulate what makes it funny. That would be why you got downvoted so much.

[–]andrewsmith1986 2 points3 points ago

Shit, I'm -1 for saying that the users want facebook posts to stay.

[–]Dirk_Digglet 1 point2 points ago

I'm expecting a tsunami of downvotes to annihilate my karma count any minute now.

[–]andrewsmith1986 3 points4 points ago

Nah, you insulted the users but you aren't a mod.

People love that.

[–]EthicalReasoning 8 points9 points ago

remove iphone screen shots, facebook screen shots, or any other obviously faked dialog sequences ie all of them

[–]DBWhits 1 point2 points ago

I concur. Any post that has FB in the title gets an immediate downvote. If you like FB that much then stay there...

[–]INoticeCakeDays 0 points1 point ago

Hey, I noticed it's your Cake Day!

[–]EthicalReasoning 0 points1 point ago

i like cake

[–]gringogrande33[S] 100 points101 points ago

I side with the mods.

[–]andrewsmith1986 51 points52 points ago

Well the mods don't all agree.

I personally don't really care about them and think they should stay.

[–]responds_in_verse 29 points30 points ago

I think that the sidebar is right on the money
with rule #1: Only post if you're funny.
eCards weren't banned 'cause they're fake or don't fit,
they just got voted out 'cause they're frequently shit.

[–]andrewsmith1986 12 points13 points ago

Pictures of just text - Make a self post instead.

I think ecards fell into that and Memes also.

[–]Tashre 5 points6 points ago

If pictures of text were actually regulated, r/funny would die out quick, especially since many of the funny pictures qualify for, and frequently are, posted in r/pics.

[–]WaywardSpaniard 1 point2 points ago

...especially since many of the funny pictures qualify for, and frequently are posted in, r/pics.

That incorrectly placed comma was bugging me.

[–]Tashre 1 point2 points ago

I,m sorry.

[–]WaywardSpaniard 2 points3 points ago

O,k

[–]the-fritz 1 point2 points ago

'cause they're frequently shit.

That's why I want to get fb and iphone screenshots banned.

[–]gringogrande33[S] 14 points15 points ago

In effect, I don't care either. I side with the mods should they decide to remove them or not.

[–]Dynasty471 61 points62 points ago

You ever think of running for office?

[–]123GoTeamShake 26 points27 points ago

[–]i_like_pretty_things 5 points6 points ago

Abortions for some, miniature american flags for the others.

[–]gringogrande33[S] 11 points12 points ago

[–]Herff 1 point2 points ago

No matter what it is or who commenced it?

[–]c1vilian 1 point2 points ago

Coincidentally, that is also how Mitt Romney handles his campaign.

[–]magicbullets 5 points6 points ago

Gets my vote.

[–]madethistopost 1 point2 points ago

9....(gasp)....11! (applause)

[–]cbs5090 2 points3 points ago

He is the Mitt Romney of reddit.

[–]SOULJAR 6 points7 points ago

Isn't it better to have an opinion than blindly supporting culling content based on someone else's reasoning?

[–]muffins_4_dinner 1 point2 points ago

Definitely. People should think for themselves before agreeing or disagreeing with the other person and then come to a logical conclusion.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

culling fake, unfunny content.

[–]frame_of_mind 1 point2 points ago

Scumbag Moderator

Says he personally doesn't care.

Expresses an opinion on the matter.

[–]Real_MikeCleary 5 points6 points ago

I agree, most are obviously fake anyways. This is reddit. We should be more creative.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

While I am annoyed by a number of iPhone screenshots, think about this. Without them, we would never have that whale thing, or catfacts. I generally dont support banning any type of content unless it gets way out of hand or is just plain retarded(LIKE ECARDS)

[–]gl77 16 points17 points ago

I absolutely agree and fully support removing all iPhone screenshots and while you're at it, may as well remove those facebook screenshots as well.

[–]lyricalgh 14 points15 points ago

sweet!! I have an android phone

[–]ApoChaos 3 points4 points ago

Since the reality of the bit doesn't and couldn't realistically have an effect on any of the readers I see little difference between whether it was real or faked. The idea that there's inherently something better--or more worthwhile--about the post if it's 'real' is a fallacy. The vast majority of comedy is fake, and even if a story told for comedic effect did happen, it's just as likely to have been twisted by the perspective of the one telling the story: innumerable tangential facts that implicitly inform a given incident are necessarily elided. You can rarely tell a story of an incident which satisfies the entire reality of what happened, perhaps never: even when things are real, they're fake.

[–]arup02 5 points6 points ago

Please do it, it will improve the quality of this sub.

[–]shard013 6 points7 points ago

Personally I would love to see all phone screenshots and Facebook screenshots removed.

[–]blkmamba 1 point2 points ago

Fuck yeah do it

[–]Ghstfce 1 point2 points ago

Look at it this way. In the age of cell phones, when was the last time you really sent a text message to a number you didn't have stored in your phone?

I can recall of one time in the past few YEARS.

[–]Hougaiidesu 1 point2 points ago

This actually happened to my friend though. Sure, a lot of them may be fake, but, he ACTUALLY had his happen, and he only posted it on here after I encouraged him to make an account and post. Banning them isn't fair to people who have it really occur.

[–]tainteddonut 1 point2 points ago

Just require a recorded video of said "wrong number text"/facebook page showing the stupid post/etc in action, a copy of the user's birth certificate and driver's license, at least one other reddit user present (chosen at random; driven/flown/carried at the OP's expense) to confirm text/post/stupid shit, and delicious bacon.

[–]TheBigBomma 3 points4 points ago

Wait, you're a moderator? I thought you just posted a shitload of comments.

[–]andrewsmith1986 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, they let me be a mod because I'm here all the time anyway.

[–]deeve04 11 points12 points ago

This is the method I am going to use to get my next job.

[–]Real_MikeCleary 5 points6 points ago

Being completely honest here, that is how I have gotten my last 3 jobs. I was at those stores so often the manager and I got to know each other and they asked me to work there.

[–]bagboyrebel 1 point2 points ago

I've had friends get jobs that way, it really does work.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

No, heis a king and sees askreddit as his kingdom (view his comment history)

[–]andrewsmith1986 -1 points0 points ago

No, subreddits are the kingdoms of the mods.

[–]I_MAKE_USERNAMES 0 points1 point ago

And you're the mod of that subreddit, so you see it as your kingdom? I don't see how what you said contradicts cwsterling.

[–]andrewsmith1986 1 point2 points ago

I am correcting him in the fact that I don't believe that I should have special treatment.

This isn't just about me.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I dont really get bothered by them, but if I wanted to read a funny text, i'd just go to damnyouautocorrect.com

[–]thedeejus 0 points1 point ago

Just trust the process. Some of them are really funny. The shitty ones get downvoted.

[–]bagboyrebel 9 points10 points ago

"The process" is why a lot of the major subreddits are now shit. /r/gaming is just a giant circle jerk with nothing but nostalgia posts and generic "This company (EA right now) is bad and everyone should hate them" posts. This subreddit could easily get just as bad, there needs to be some level of moderation to prevent that kind of stuff from happening.

[–]thedeejus 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, good point. Maybe the problem is with confusion over the voting system, then. For example, in rediquette it says that upvoting is for relevance, not a facebook-style "like" button. But when you use the default reddit page viewer, next to the fucking arrows it says "like" and "dislike!"

Maybe we should have two voting systems: Like and Relevance?

[–]bagboyrebel 0 points1 point ago

I still don't think that would work. A lot of the shitty content is technically relevant. That's why we have rules and mods to enforce those rules.

[–]Simple_Jim 1 point2 points ago

I just want to see everything that is funny in one place. If that means wading through a load of crap (which, lets face it, we already do always will with people like me making submissions) then so be it. I don't believe in having bijillions of miniscule subreddits dedicated to humour.

[–]andrewsmith1986 1 point2 points ago

You could make a bookmark of a group of them.

http://reddit.com/r/ecards+facepalm+humor

[–]Osmodius 1 point2 points ago

I support this notion.

[–]Shady_Milkman 0 points1 point ago

I received a random wrong number text IRL. I did!, but it wasn't funny and they were polite...

[–]ameoba 0 points1 point ago

DO IT!!!

[–]Finaltidus 0 points1 point ago

yes

[–]electricmice 0 points1 point ago

ok think about it this way. everyone has a contact list. the only times that someone can send a text to a wrong number is from the first text msg. the first text certainly won't say something funny or weird like what we usually see. it's gonna be like hey blah bah it's me etc. as for screenshots in general, half the stuff on reddit is fake anyway. we can only eliminate the obviously fake because other wise most of reddit would be gone.

[–]sicklyfish 0 points1 point ago

I would be happy with no phone screens, no facebook, and no twitter!

[–]johnxreturn 0 points1 point ago

Most iphone screenshots are rip off from websites like bash. I concur.

[–]ItscalledCannabis 0 points1 point ago

Do it! I want to see the rest of reddit squirm.

[–]wonko221 0 points1 point ago

Every time you catch my attention, you're advocating imposing more rules on people.

[–]andrewsmith1986 0 points1 point ago

Because I only mod distinguish for stuff like this.

[–]modestlycocky 0 points1 point ago

Don't do it. If we banned everything that COULD be faked, most of the contentents of /r/funny would be gone.

We're adults (most of us) so let us decide for ourselves what we do and do not believe.

[–]greenfan033 0 points1 point ago

This is just a suggestion, but this time could you have the poll last a few days and is visible before closing it? I'm just disappointed I didn't get to vote in the poll because I didn't know there was one in till the new rule announcement.

[–]andrewsmith1986 1 point2 points ago

I'll try to make it better.

I really wasn't trying to keep it a secret.

[–]cesarjulius 0 points1 point ago

The only thing lamer than making a fake post for karma, is caring whether someone else is making a fake post for karma.

[–]ringringbananaphone -1 points0 points ago

if only there was some sort of voting system where users could decide what they liked and disliked. Then we could base what got displayed on this.

That would be a cool website.

[–]hblask -2 points-1 points ago

I agree with OP -- they are probably almost all fake -- but most of them are funny, so who cares? I say leave them.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

but most of them are funny

go to funny school

[–]Worgame 0 points1 point ago

Goddamnit, Bobby.

[–]Rainbolt -4 points-3 points ago

Please do this. They are all fake, and rarely funny.

[–]capt_0bvious -3 points-2 points ago

Why? I find it entertaining.. who cares if they are fake. Reddit isn't a scientific journal where everything has to be verified as correct.

[–]pigpill -2 points-1 points ago

I don't think they should be removed. Why are mods trying to force their own opinions on what is funny to an entire general sub? What is wrong with living by the, "if its not good it wont get upvoted" mantra? I personaly don't care about the facebook or phone posts, I know that most are probably fake. It's like a sitcom, you know its fake, but it creates a situation that can be laughed at (or it is just plain stupid). I can understand that we can have dedicated subs for more specific types of humor, but where do we draw the line for something as general as /r/funny? What is the point of having a catchall if you can only put certain things in it?

Honest questions here that I would be interested in hearing arguments against.

[–]andrewsmith1986 1 point2 points ago

Do you not see the post up there where I say that I think they should stay?

[–]pigpill 0 points1 point ago

I was just giving my input. Those questions were not necessarily directed at you but at the whole situation. Sorry if I came across as attacking you or something, just trying to get my opinion out since you asked for input.

*and no I did not see anything about you saying you think they should stay. All I saw was the above post that I responded to

[–]andrewsmith1986 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, sorry that I was defensive, it's just that I've been getting a lot of crap about stuff like this.

We get 1000's of complaints so I try to poll the normal users about the topic.

If a lot of people are against them, I make a poll.

If the poll passes by more than 10%, I make a rule.

I'm not trying to force ANYTHING on anyone.

I'm just trying to let the subreddit evolve if the users want that.

[–]pigpill 0 points1 point ago

Sounds like a fair process. You have my permission to carry on. :p But seriously I am sure it can be hard when there are so many different people complaining. Thanks for doing the best you can.

[–]dontmutemeplz 35 points36 points ago

same with those stupid "Facebook" posts with shitty ass jpg quality. Is it really that hard to make a screenshot that's actually good quality?

[–]alphaorionis 11 points12 points ago

Or when people take pictures of their screen with a physical camera.

[–]fashizzIe 16 points17 points ago

Seriously. Just scan your monitor like a regular person

[–]alphaorionis 4 points5 points ago

So that there isn't too much white space when I do that, I scan it in, print it out, cut it so that only the content is showing, take a picture with my old polaroid camera, scan that in, and then upload it to imgur.

[–]MrKenta 4 points5 points ago

You can tell something has been reposted hundreds of times by the amount of jpeg artifacts.

[–]Tashre 7 points8 points ago

Also "Posted 2 seconds ago".

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]An_Emo_Dinosaur 5 points6 points ago

no, but I don't think anything under 1000 pixels has ever been posted either.

That's a really, really small image.

[–]moogoogaipan11 4 points5 points ago

In the 10 years of me owning a cellphone, I have never -- nor has anyone I've ever known -- gotten one of these types of 'wrong number' messages. I would wager that the vast, vast majority are made up.

[–]TwoRolls 2 points3 points ago

I have received several wrong number messages in the last few months. I always respond by trying to pretend I know the person and/or what they are talking about. Their follow up is always the same: no response.

[–]Tgg161 1 point2 points ago*

Eh, I've gotten two interesting wrong texts. One was "what do i need to buy to make pie crust", which I responded to and it was pretty funny.

Another, was something like "i'm so proud of you for graduating! love wheezy" which I really, really wish I'd written a response to, along the lines of how much wheezy had done for me and how much I appreciated them in my life; something over the top. Alas, I kind of chickened out, and didn't respond to that one.

All this is to say that sometimes people do actually get wrong texts.

[–]Hougaiidesu 0 points1 point ago

I've gotten some. I got invited to a party and I fucked with them, asking them if any hot chicks were going to be there, etc.... but this was before the era of iphones so I couldn't take screenshots. I also didn't know about reddit back then.

[–]heybulldog 6 points7 points ago

Bullshit Man agrees.

[–]Eli1234Sic 2 points3 points ago

I LOVE Stephan Merchant's voice. Sweet gif yo

[–]ruderabbit 6 points7 points ago

Indeed. A voice to stick your dick in.

[–]larkham 0 points1 point ago

At the end of the day... its all bullshit, innit?

[–]princess_shami 2 points3 points ago

this is how i feel when i get calls to my phone by guys who breathe for a while, and then say, "sorry..wrong number." I KNOW YOU'RE FAPPING

[–]FuzzyLoveRabbit 4 points5 points ago

You're totally right! Hey man, hey dude, HEY MAN! Check this out. Dude... Hey! Dude, look at this. This is totally what I heard, listen. You there? Alright, dude.

The guy? He never walked into a bar! NEVER HAPPENED!

[–]Veret 12 points13 points ago

I half agree with you; fake stories/conversations can be just as funny, and there's no reason to ban them. But this is just annoying:

"Hey man, check this out: Me and my friend were chilling at this bar, right? And a fucking panda walks in. No, seriously. And--I swear I saw this with my own eyes--he orders a drink. I know, right? A talking panda? But check it: As soon as the bartender starts making his drink, the panda pulls out a fucking glock and shoots him in the fucking face. Blows his head right off! There was, like, brains and shit spraying all over our table, swear to God. I'm all, 'what the fucking actual fuck,' right? But my friend pulls out this wildlife manual and looks up 'panda.' You know what it says? 'Eats, shoots, and leaves.' AMIRITE? Funniest shit ever."

Just tell the fucking joke. Don't pretend it really happened.

[–]Eli1234Sic 3 points4 points ago

My thoughts exactly.

[–]mousedogg 3 points4 points ago

Every time I see those posts, I'm thinking "so I'm the only one not owning an iphone around here?"

[–]TheGreat69 1 point2 points ago

Do you have a smart phone though? I see those posts and I think, "I still have don't have a smart phone and it's 2012, FML"

[–]andrewtheernst 0 points1 point ago

my phone doesn't even have a camera

[–]TheGreat69 0 points1 point ago

Well I feel like I just experienced a first world problem haha

[–]mousedogg 0 points1 point ago

The latest technology my phone has is taking pictures, so I guess the answer is no, I don't have a smart phone.

[–]TheGreat69 0 points1 point ago

Same. Do you have a bunch of buddies that like to rub it in your face? My friends cannot go a day without rubbing it my face haha

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

It's on but really fucks up your sleep schedule if you get the reddit app

[–]ungolden_glitter 0 points1 point ago

I have a Blackberry. Every time I see one of those posts, I'm always happy I settled on a Blackberry and not an iPhone. I'd probably hate my phone with a passion by now if I'd bought an iPhone.

[–]pim_pam_pum 3 points4 points ago

yeah! all of them happen on iphones...looks like people don't send texts to wrong numbers with their androids :/

[–]therealxris 3 points4 points ago

Actually, it's because it's super easy to take a screenshot on an iPhone. Android, not so much.

[–]ErrorlessGnome 1 point2 points ago

im gonna go ahead and call bullshit on this

[–]soothslayer 1 point2 points ago

Seriously. How are people getting all these wrong number texts? I text quite a bit and have never sent or received a text to/from the wrong number. I can see dialing a wrong number when making a call, but who dials a number when texting? No-one. You select the number from your contacts. Please, just stop with this crap already. </rant>

[–]HsZion 1 point2 points ago

[–]Radicou 1 point2 points ago

If the posts are real, why is that every wrong number text message I get is something lame like "Hey man, you bringing the pizza?" or "When is your flight getting in?"

[–]penisinthepeanutbttr 1 point2 points ago

i feel this way about any post that starts with "my friend witnessed/saw this while (insert verb)ing today/this week"

[–]Bibliotekaris 1 point2 points ago

Awe, but I actually got a real wrong number text last night! After I explained I wasn't the chick he'd met at the bar a couple weeks ago, and ended with "sorry, bro." The "bro" part really sealed the deal on ending the convo, because his response was "Bro? Definitely the wrong phone number."

I think you're right that they are most likely all fakes. I can't remember the last time I actually typed in a number when sending a text, I select the people from my contact list. That being said, some of them are still pretty damned funny.

[–]latarian 1 point2 points ago

That's my response to almost everything on reddit these days.

[–]MDef255 1 point2 points ago

This sums up how I felt about Reddit a few moments after venturing out from r/technology and r/science.

[–]RoflCopter4 2 points3 points ago

Back in my day people posted things that were funny in /r/funny.

[–]Link_GR 3 points4 points ago

It's funny how everyone that receives these "funny" texts has an iPhone...

[–]madethistopost 0 points1 point ago

[–]NeptunesDecision 0 points1 point ago

i posted this exact picture to what i thought about facebook screen shots

[–]surly_redditor 0 points1 point ago

That's my response to pretty much every post. It's not about posting quality content, it's all about getting karma.

[–]someguy945 0 points1 point ago

Got a wrong number text once. Responded in a humorous fashion. They didn't reply back.

[–]garyg 0 points1 point ago

This is how you respond to a text message:

Brian Regan on Letterman

[–]dkvat 0 points1 point ago

Would someone care to explain how so many "wrong number" texts are even possible? The thought of someone manually typing in the phone number of the person they are texting seems really unnecessary to me. In the decade I've had a cellphone, I have yet to see someone send a message this way. In my experience, people use their contact list/phone book to send messages.

[–]ungolden_glitter 0 points1 point ago

You've never once seen someone borrow a phone to send a text or forget to update their contact list if someone gets a new number?

[–]allpapajohn 0 points1 point ago

I actually had a person that thought I was her son. I messed with her for days and she got mad quite a few times because I told her she wasn't the boss of me and I don't need to do her shopping for her. I think I kept it going for 4-5 days. It was pretty fun.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I got a text one time, after getting a new number, about someone wanting to buy weed. It went like this:

"hay i rlly need 2 smoke u got ne dank?"

"who is this?"

"girl don fuk w me i had a bad day i nd to smoke"

"You have the wrong number..."

"o shit im sry, this isnt a cop is it???"

[–]littlekitty29 0 points1 point ago

Mabe they just need their own subreddit. Some of them are pretty funny but a lot of them are shit.

[–]busy_child 0 points1 point ago

This is my response to every claim like "my friend did such and such" or "this is what happened to me today".

[–]DrHellstrom 0 points1 point ago

Honestly I'm mored tired of "Everything on the internet is fake, yet pointing it out still nets me karma" posts than I am of Iphone screenshots.

[–]Terwat 0 points1 point ago

I just generally hate everything on the internet

[–]nevetskl 0 points1 point ago

You know I think a lot of them are bullshit too, but I've gotten 2 wrong number texts in the past 2 weeks and had a little fun with them so you never know.

[–]apullin 0 points1 point ago

It's an infinite wellspring of post content, though! Also, look at this funny CleverBot screencap

[–]Dingissimus 0 points1 point ago

[–]halotwo2 0 points1 point ago

Every time I call bullshit on text-based jokes I get downvoted to hell, but this is getting upvoted. I think people just dont like dissent. Fuck you all.

[–]BlackPride 0 points1 point ago

It is kind of hard to believe. Back in the day, maybe, when you just had the numbers and not the people's names you're sending the text to.

[–]Ashikahotchu 0 points1 point ago

In the picture, why is she using her thumb on the spray button?

I mean, who does that?

[–]JohnnyDollar 0 points1 point ago

I got a wrong number text in 2007. I still haven't let them know and we text on holidays. No desire to post it on the internet.

[–]Skbit 0 points1 point ago

Is that Grace Kelly?

[–]AxemanEugene 0 points1 point ago

I hate this picture so much, my Samsung galaxy S sends my texts to the wrong person at least once a week, and there is literally nothing that can be done about it.

[–]SPIDERBOB 0 points1 point ago

I thought this had to do with your response to people who gave you their number, who then didn't want to talk to you .

[–]sostman237 0 points1 point ago

perfect!

[–]Tbarr856 0 points1 point ago

So true

[–]anonymousrapeface 0 points1 point ago

People need to get more creative. When the phone messages first came out I would laugh my ass off and didn't care if they were fake or not cuz they were funny. Now people are trying to be funny by making awkward encounters with strangers and I'm like this is gay.

[–]An_Emo_Dinosaur 2 points3 points ago

I'm like this is gay

Elementary school is that way. -->

[–]me_and_batman 0 points1 point ago

My response to every "I don't like this post"...

"Well downvote and move on... you aren't special, and I disagree with you."

[–]burgercollegedropout 0 points1 point ago

Impossible to text the wrong person with every phone having threaded text message display. So yeah, every last one of those "wrong number text" posts are definitely bullshit.

[–]ungolden_glitter 0 points1 point ago

I got them quite often for a while. I think one of the major factors in receiving wrong number texts is if you've recently gotten a new phone number. Whoever had it before you probably didn't tell all of their friends about the change.

The first few months I had my cell number, I kept getting texts looking for Steve or Mimi. And one really long rant telling the entire fight was "my" fault and I needed to grow up... That one was hilarious. I didn't respond, though.

[–]magicbullets 0 points1 point ago

[–]me_and_batman 0 points1 point ago

Everyone seems wrapped around the axle about whether or not something should be on r/funny if it isn't real. Jesus Christ people, TV isn't real but it's funny. Movies aren't real and they are funny. Hell pro-wrestling isn't real and that's what makes it funny.

If it's not funny then downvote. If it's funny to see your reaction to it, fine. Others will up-down-vote that as they see fit. But, don't just start throwing your shit around because you want to decide what's funny.

[–]Rodents210 -1 points0 points ago

I've had a few funny wrong-number texts. I don't post them on Reddit though. I am particularly fond of the one 13 year old boy that texts me every few months thinking that I'm a 13 year old girl. No matter how many times I remind him I'm a 20 year old guy...

[–]I_MAKE_USERNAMES 0 points1 point ago

I would be careful with that one.

[–]Rodents210 0 points1 point ago

Really all I ever do is tell him he has the wrong number in an increasingly sarcastic manner.

[–]RodneyFiendish -1 points0 points ago

It doesn't usually smell like bullshit but when it wanders into mordor looking for ggg....

[–]THEnicole -1 points0 points ago

I got a picture text from a wrong number a month or two ago. It was a text of some hoopty car. It was a Saturday night, so I was pre-gaming and decided to have a little fun.

After a few back and forth texts and a picture text of my own, I decided to take a picture of me and my friend in transformer masks and send it to them. I guess that's when they figured out that they didn't know who I was because they stopped texting me after. :(

So ya, I have no idea how someone accidently sends a text to someone else but it apparently happens. At first, I thought it might be someone from work messing with me but to this day, I still have no clue who that person was.

And I did take a picture of the conversation and posted on my FB.

The point is, this shit happens.
