Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Wow, thats awesome, thanks

Edit: Ok, now that I've seen all the images, I seriously hope this guy is and will always be rich and lives an epic life. The ammount of work he put into these is breathtaking.

Edit 2: Was talking about the artist, but I wish the same for Jordan117 for being such a good guy and putting all these up for us

[–]BluShine 5 points6 points ago*

Would you happen to know this artist's name, perchance?

edit: Stephen Biesty

His most recent book (2011) is Into the Unknown: How Great Explorers Found Their Way by Land, Sea, and Air. Seems to be out of stock in most places (amazon, Barnes and Noble), but this site still has it available.

[–]moonjam 3 points4 points ago

In case anyone is interested, the Star Wars Incredible Cross-section books were illustrated by my friend Richard Chasemore & Hans Jenssen who also both operate under the banner of Flying Machine Art

[–]o0Bex0o 9 points10 points ago

Fucking saved. Fucking submitted to Bestof.

[–]kopaka649 7 points8 points ago

Mother of god...

[–]hucku 2 points3 points ago

This was all a gold mine. Then I saw the "40 more" in the Star Wars section....

holy shit.

[–]GoodReg 2 points3 points ago

I need to save your message to show it to my grandchildren later

[–]deviaatio 2 points3 points ago

A thousand thanks to you.

[–]Silvertear 2 points3 points ago

This is amazing, thanks!

[–]sennais1 2 points3 points ago

Amazing...

Thank you so much.

[–]427BananaFish 2 points3 points ago

I feel like I'm back in elementary school. Wow. I can't thank you enough for letting me relive a small but important piece of my childhood. Pretty sure my love of books started with these.

[–]qtrules 2 points3 points ago

wow! amazing.

i used to have the leaflet of the millennium dome circa 1999... i carried it around with me all year, hoping desperately that i could visit.

i never did... :(

[–]MomoTheCow 2 points3 points ago

You have just repaid your life debt in full.

[–]theodrixx 5 points6 points ago

Fukken saved.

[–]dorrish 4 points5 points ago

Stephen Biesty's actual website has all the images at better quality.

[–]johnnynutman 1 point2 points ago

you're my new hero. when the space ants invade our planet, you'll have a spot in my mega bunker.

[–]hotbox4u 1 point2 points ago

Thank you so very much! I totally forgot this one. It was ony of my favourite books during my childhood. and i remember drawing things out of the book. Man, good memories. Thanks again. :-D

[–]LilyRose12 1 point2 points ago

I love you motherfucker

[–]Quimera_Caniche 1 point2 points ago

Hey, I have that book with the Star Wars cross sections! There's some pretty awesome stuff in there, they went really in-depth with it.

[–]azzron 1 point2 points ago

My life is now complete..

[–]infectedapricot 1 point2 points ago*

The metro station is clearly on the London Underground. I tried figuring out which one, but I think it might be a mix of several.

Edit: Actually it might be Piccadilly Circus. It's a station I don't normally use, so I don't know for certain.

The picture shows a central London station with two perpendicular deep-level tube lines. The ticket hall is circular and has toilets (top-right), which is quite unusual. Piccadilly Circus is the only station that matches all this.

[–]EzyExplain 1 point2 points ago

Thank you, because an upvote is simply not enough.

[–]Aiyon 1 point2 points ago

I dunno if it's in the "40 more", but another amazng one was the Supermarionation one!

Thunderbirds, Joe 90, etc.

All awesome.

[–]TimmyFTW 618 points619 points ago

FUCK YOU!

Ninja edit: I made this picture for another karma whore but it suits this occasion just fine. Die in a fire.

[–]PolarBear42 141 points142 points ago

you just changed my vote sir

[–]ani625 61 points62 points ago

[–]wilsol 57 points58 points ago

What the hell? Didn't even bother to change the post name? Jesus.

[–]TheNativeRaver 22 points23 points ago

It's probably the same guy.

[–]cyantist 7 points8 points ago

1135 2 months ago was theawesomelucas, and this is a meme-title, it could refer to a lot of different books.

Definitely a repost karma-whore at any rate.

[–]FOOGEE 18 points19 points ago

I notice his user name could be argued to be star wars related.

[–]EwokLova 5 points6 points ago

I approve this message

Remember Sammy Jankis.... Remember Sammy Jankis... Remember Sammy Jankis...

[–]georgeguy007 1 point2 points ago

Tagged him now as a Reposter. Thank you sir.

[–]JimmehFTW 1 point2 points ago

Your name is eerily similar.

[–]okaygecko 1 point2 points ago

I didn't see the others, so I upvoted this one. Sorry, The Internet, but unlike you I am not a hivemind.

[–]Saritachiquita 43 points44 points ago*

My Uncle and I liked to play "Where's Waldo" in this book when I was little.....We used to try to find all of the people using the toilet.

Edit: forgot a word

[–]Klowd19 13 points14 points ago

Absolutely this. I did the same. Hahahahaha

[–]panda86trueno 8 points9 points ago

I'm so glad I was not the only person looking for people taking dumps at the age of 6.

[–]hypnofed 25 points26 points ago*

That wasn't the weirdest part. The one with the tank didn't have a guy on a toilet (as there was no toilet). It did strangely enough have a man who was a chest, legs, and a pile of intestines in the middle.

I'm not kidding.

Edit: Found it! Sorry for the poor quality, and Russian.

Edit 2: Higher quality of the same image! You can clearly see it here. I remember finding this deeply confusing as a child.

[–]BunsTown 13 points14 points ago

Cross section homie.

[–]Vertigo666 2 points3 points ago

How very proper, showing the T34 in Russian.

[–]Scronce 1 point2 points ago

FUCK. I must go read this when I get home, it's in the box under my bed.

[–]Fruitboots 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, this pretty much boggled my mind and I never really understood that it was just meant to be funny.

[–]smashingthings 3 points4 points ago

This was the thread I've been waiting for all my life.

[–]jettrscga 6 points7 points ago

Wow I've been ruined by internet. I read "My Uncle and I liked to play..." and immediately feared the worst.

[–]god_damnit_reddit 1 point2 points ago

SO much where's the toilet waldo with my grandmother cause she was the one who had the book. She never really approved of the game but it didn't god damn matter cause we could both stare at that thing for days and I just wouldn't change the page till we found the fool taking a shit. :)

[–]AMostOriginalUserNam 1 point2 points ago

Shouldn't there be an article there. 'A' toilet or 'the' toilet?

[–]riboflavins 30 points31 points ago

This book inspired me to become an aerospace engineer.

[–]azarashi 15 points16 points ago

how did that turn out

[–]donpapillon 8 points9 points ago

He went to IT.

[–]BigStein 50 points51 points ago

... T Tech

[–]SpaceCaseSixtyTen 4 points5 points ago

This is why you should give your kids these kinds of books

[–]oozles 16 points17 points ago

Are you 6 now?

Because this book is fucking incredible.

Downvote for your spamming though.

[–]TJFadness 2 points3 points ago

"This book was fucking incredible. It still is, but it was back then too."

[–]that_narwhals_a_spy 18 points19 points ago

I've seen this before ಠ_ಠ

[–]stock_character 4 points5 points ago

has it been 10 months already? damn, feels like it was last week

[–]nigsbitch 21 points22 points ago

Lucas stop trying to karmawhore off of reposts that appease the reddit hivemind.

[–]supradeltoid 1 point2 points ago

George lucas could use that advice too

[–]JohnofArc 2 points3 points ago

I loved the tank cross-section. And the castle. Aw, hell, the whole thing was super cool.

[–]jskater17 1 point2 points ago

the tank cross section also cross-sectioned the guys inside it, if i remember correctly.

[–]JohnofArc 2 points3 points ago

It did. The intestines were pretty cool.

[–]cynthiadangus 2 points3 points ago

HNNNNGGGGG THE NOSTALGIA

[–]SIRMEBSALOT 2 points3 points ago

I always looked at the castle and large ship pages to find people who were pooping. I was a weird kid.

[–]kyleberry 2 points3 points ago

He also did an entire book on castles I would recommend for any aspiring young knight

[–]DollarsforDerek 2 points3 points ago

The star wars ones were my favorite.

could not agree more. isn't there a cross section of an old man-of-war ship, with people firing cannons and writing about injured and getting amputated? oh man.

[–]Einchy 1 point2 points ago

Goddammit, you're back.

[–]lol_at_anything 1 point2 points ago

I am 22 and this book is incredible. i want to go to my parents house now and see if they still have it.

[–]Darrik 1 point2 points ago

I LOVED THEESE BOOKS!!! Ever read the one about castles? (FYI there's a guy taking a dump so it falls in the moat)

[–]Dux0r 1 point2 points ago

This makes me want to play Sim Tower again so bad.

[–]zzTopo 1 point2 points ago

The where's waldo of comically drawn pooping scenes.

[–]DrOwl13 1 point2 points ago

I liked the Book but I do not like you.

[–]DrOwl13 1 point2 points ago

I loved this book but not you sir, not you.

[–]cupofchupachups 1 point2 points ago

this book was fucking incredible

Should have been called Stephen Biesty's Fucking Incredible Cross-Sections then, I guess.

[–]khurley424 1 point2 points ago

This book is part of what started me on the road to becoming an engineer.

[–]CapillarianCrest 1 point2 points ago

This. This is why i'm in engineering.

[–]Giant_Robot_Birdhead 1 point2 points ago

The Star Wars versions of these were particularly outstanding.

[–]Excess_Sexy 1 point2 points ago

HOLY SHIT

I forgot this book existed, I loved the tanks. This is clearly a subconscious reason that I'm studying engineering atm.

[–]Wayne_Bruce 1 point2 points ago

That's why the Titanic sank.

Someone cut it into pieces.

[–]ganymedesearat 1 point2 points ago

I loved the Medieval one. :D

[–]OnmyojiOmn 1 point2 points ago

DAVID MOTHERFUCKING MACAULEY.

[–]KalkiZalgo 1 point2 points ago*

Glad someone mentioned him, the true originator. Added so much to my childhood.

Edit: A few pictures from my favorite book of his.

[–]narcomensajae 1 point2 points ago

"The Way Things Work" had a similar role in my life. It was about how stuff works and had Wooly Mammoths in it. The joys of learning how a fridge worked.

[–]RMNC 1 point2 points ago

I liked how every single one had someone taking a shit

[–]nocubir 1 point2 points ago

I'm 36 and I still have this book, and it's still fucking incredible. This book is the ULTIMATE taking a shit book.

[–]illlogic 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit I loved this book. I read it all the time. I still remember the guy in the tank who's intestines were visible and the guy on the toilet in the train. Im pretty sure it's still at my parents house. Next time I'm there I'm going to find it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

And in every single cross section, there is a guy having a shit.

Seriously, every single one.

[–]tr3xkuro 1 point2 points ago

Fun fact: On virtually every page of the book, there is at least one person taking a shit into a toilet.

[–]tbdoah 1 point2 points ago

best part of all these cross sections was the bathroom scenes.

[–]RoscoJetbaby 2 points3 points ago

At 55 it still is!

[–]Anzac5665 1 point2 points ago

Those were great! I still have the one we got for our kids that cross-sectioned an 19th century "Man-O-War". Hell, even at 50 I'll still flip through it :)

[–]BigFishWalkin 0 points1 point ago

holy nostalgia.

[–]RandomExpletive 0 points1 point ago

Man I need to check some more of those out, those were the best back in elementary school!

[–]B00SH 0 points1 point ago

AGREED

[–]kabukistar 0 points1 point ago

Hence the title.

[–]nickbilotti 0 points1 point ago

I am 26 and this book is still incredible, even after 20-some years

[–]breatherevenge 0 points1 point ago

I remember my friend had that. And it was the shit.

[–]Yaberflap 0 points1 point ago

The human body one is outrageous

[–]LordPhantom 0 points1 point ago

I always had to "find Waldo"... Which was the guy taking a shit

[–]rosenchuck1 0 points1 point ago

This was the most amazing thing when I was a kid, spent hours looking at the details in the drawings. I'm glad there are others out there who appreciate it :)

[–]DaBluePanda 0 points1 point ago

I loved that book, and the one with cross-sections of natural disasters.

[–]rushietheplushie 0 points1 point ago

Still good!

[–]Garol 0 points1 point ago

Hell, it was incredible when i was 12. I think it's still awesome.

[–]Jymm 0 points1 point ago

There was always someone on the toilet..

[–]drempire 0 points1 point ago

i went to the school library as often as i could to read this book (look at pics)

[–]h8bit 0 points1 point ago

I'm 30 and that book looks fucking incredible to me. I want it.

[–]gumblegod 0 points1 point ago

Ummm fucking best book ever!

[–]mercermango 0 points1 point ago

I'm nineteen, this book is still incredible.

[–]UDorhune 0 points1 point ago

OP did you undergo a bilateral hippocampus resection?

[–]one_two_many_lots 0 points1 point ago

On the one hand, this book is awesome and I still have my copy for my kids to look at and, one day, my grandkids.

On the other hand, spam is bad, mmkay?

[–]Fagsquamntch 0 points1 point ago

Oh man I totally have this book.

[–]Anthraxmonki 0 points1 point ago

I forgot all about this book!

[–]naverine 0 points1 point ago

Fuckin aeeee

[–]djsjjd 0 points1 point ago

I'm calling bullshit on this. As great as this book may be, six years old is a bit young to be claiming that you understood its "incredibleness". You just liked the fold-out pictures.

[–]yellowlikegold 0 points1 point ago

It reminds me of The Cell, where the horse is all sliced and separated. Gnarly.

[–]sracer4095 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure I've still got my copy of this one. I know I have the Man-o-War followup.

[–]cornelius_mumbungo 0 points1 point ago

YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH YOU KARMA WHORE

[–]Dsilkotch 0 points1 point ago

My 11-year-old son just check that book out of the library two weeks ago. The great circle of life continues.

[–]Abarth15 0 points1 point ago

That book was the shit in elementary school, and when it finally got too old, they let me take it! Still have it today. Will post pics if anyone wants

[–]whalesalad 0 points1 point ago

Damn I used to love this stuff. I used to read them all the time. I was obsessed with taking things apart and learning how they worked when I grew up. My strongest (not fondest) memory of this book was when a teacher of mine in first grade or something gave me bullshit for reading it. She said something like "I bet you don't even know what a cross-section is" ... what a fucking bitch.

[–]lozza293 0 points1 point ago

They had this in the library at my primary school and always be looking at it whenever we were in there.

[–]hairyassandballs 0 points1 point ago

yes! when i was 8 years old i received this as a bday gift while the rest of my shit was nintendo and ninja turtle shit. needless to say.. i overlooked this nifty for years until through person that gave it to me passed on. so i cracked this bitch open an it has taken my imagination further than any cartoon or video game. i spent hours upon hours staring at each cross section and imagining life in that environment.

sorry i cheated on you raphael ... rest in peace, my sweet prince no homo

[–]Goto10 0 points1 point ago

Anyone remember a book, maybe earlier than this one, early 80's maybe that was similar to this but had fantastical looking balloons and dirigibles and such? These were drawings of course. It was a strange book but I only barely remember it. Wish I could see that one again.

[–]JBaraus 0 points1 point ago

Scumbag mother sold mine when I moved out of home. And the castle one AND the man-o-war one!

[–]fonster_mox 0 points1 point ago

Yes! I still have this book.

[–]ellsworth92 0 points1 point ago

[–]Jester_Dan 0 points1 point ago

Wow, this is refreshing! I used to run my finger along the page running out a story in my head of traveling through the boat, and various other structures. Nice post dude!

[–]kevmeister1206 0 points1 point ago

Wow this is seriously boss man. Also incredible comparisons.

[–]Stoutpants 0 points1 point ago

I had that as a kid. Gave it to my nephew this past Christmas.

[–]zipsy7 0 points1 point ago

YES! I forgot all about this. It passed many hours.

[–]josephanthony 0 points1 point ago

Then you are still 6 years old. And so am I.

[–]Ch1215 0 points1 point ago

Massive nostalgia.

[–]Nanovuh 0 points1 point ago

Always looked at this book while I pooped in elementary school while waiting for my mom to finish work (she was a teacher). Never got old lol

[–]wayndom 0 points1 point ago

Have you ever seen the movie, The Cell?

[–]Bigbadbarron 0 points1 point ago

[–]jayemdee 0 points1 point ago

[–]itsalwaysthebutler 0 points1 point ago

Nostalgia upboat for you!

[–]Stupid_suggestions 0 points1 point ago

it's still pretty incredible 16 years later.

[–]iambigmen 0 points1 point ago

So many years have passed, and it still looks good.

[–]Yellow_Ledbetter 0 points1 point ago

Despite your silly spamming, I feel I should inform you (evidently a Star Wars fan) that this exists.

[–]viTRiOLL 0 points1 point ago

I found this in a used book store last year and bought it for my son. We still look at it all the time.

My favorite is the Soviet tank - the fact that even the guy is cut in half (and you can see inside of him too) makes me laugh every time I see it.

[–]ThrindellOblinity 0 points1 point ago

When I was twelve years old this book was incredible.

Hell, I'm 32 years old and it's still incredible.

[–]kairos91 0 points1 point ago

Challenge: find the guy pooping on every page. Best part of the book...Besides the tank where they decided they needed to show a guys entrails... I think it's because there isn't a toilet in the tank.

[–]LetThereBeAnarchy 0 points1 point ago

I thought I would never see this book again. I remember reading it when I was 10 years old and thinking that it was the greatest thing that has ever been made.

[–]overusesellipses 0 points1 point ago

I'm 24 and I'm pretty sure it's still awesome...

[–]confuscan 0 points1 point ago

When I was 33 yrs old & my son was 6, this was incredible. By the way, some 20 years later I still sneak a look. The Internet is only just now catching up to Biesty.

[–]Random_Username 0 points1 point ago

I won't lie. I was expecting the first Harry Potter book. Also with the comment "anyone else remember this gem". But I'm proved wrong. Good find...

[–]Harbley 0 points1 point ago

[–]rumbar 0 points1 point ago

[–]clazberri 0 points1 point ago

[–]BassBlend20 0 points1 point ago

I never got to check this book out of the school library because the same damn kids kept taking turns and renewing it

[–]cuddlefish 0 points1 point ago

As a kid, that thing had permanent residence next to the toilet. Most interesting shits ever.

This was mine and my brothers' favourite book when we were kids! We just looked it out and everything! We realised on every cross-section there is someone on the toilet. Try to find each one! It'll entertain you for hours.

I found that exact book in a thrift shop for $1, and I was so happy to give it to my son. I knew he'd love it. A couple months later, I found his baby sister sitting in the middle of his room surrounded by tiny, little pieces of pages. It was a total loss. Grrr.

I was such a big fan of that book (also because I really love ocean liners like the one on the book's cover!)

When I was a kid my brother and I would count all the people in the pictures as a sort of competition. Pretty sad but we got hours of entertainment out of it!

I felt a little weird when I found the woman going to the bathroom on the spaceship. I loved that book though.

The best was the T-34 where you could see the guy's guts in the turret/hull separation.
