I think my GF didn't get the memo, she says so crazy racist shit! (she's white, part Jewish). I think she thinks she can say it because I'm Hispanic (Dominican) and her best friend is black.

If group X is an oppressed minority, then it is much less socially acceptable to make jokes about said minority. I see these types of racial jokes as anti-racism. If we can all laugh at the insignificance of our racial differences, then that is a good thing. That's progress.

No they are not "oppressed" at least where I live. (united states) Of course there is still racism. Oppression usually carries way more baggage than small number of the population being bigoted idiots. Blacks have equal rights, and I have seen no evidence to suggest that they are being treated unfairly in a large scale in either the work place or in government. Pointing to the average socio-economic levels is worthless as that is simply the drain drip from the oppressed past.

Calling blacks "oppressed" is definitely misleading if you simply mean "there are racist people left." Certain forms of racism is simply human nature, I highly doubt we will ever be able to fully eradicate it, at least anytime soon. Personally, I've seen racism coming from all races. And of

Now look at crime charts and statistics and tell me that racism is unjustified in every area.

I'm not telling that it's okay to oppress them just because of that, but when I'm passing group of young blacks, I grip my hand on a pepper spray instinctively.
