top 200 commentsshow all 222

[–]ccnxcg 57 points58 points ago

I have a friend on Facebook that has liked every post and comment that he has ever made. This has been going on for about 5 years now.

[–]GGDragon 13 points14 points ago

at least we can laud his consistency

[–]kingdavecako 1 point2 points ago

"Laud" is my new favorite word. Much more elegant than "applaud".

[–]Error404NameNotFound 13 points14 points ago

Yes, same here. It's sad really. The guy I know that does this clearly has no real friends as not a single other person ever comments on or likes any of his posts.

[–]littlebanshee 11 points12 points ago

Maybe be his real friend and not just one on facebook? Or does he just really suck that badly?

[–]Error404NameNotFound 6 points7 points ago

Well that's complicated... We've been real friends since we were little and I do talk to him in real life still sometimes. But he has become a very hard person to get along with and honestly if I didn't have such good memories of him from childhood I probably wouldn't talk to him either.

[–]mike77777 3 points4 points ago

Has he changed recently? Maybe there is something going on that he would need a friend for.

[–]Klager 1 point2 points ago

This should be a no-brainer. Most people give up on 'friends' when this stuff happens, then they drift apart, instead of showing up and growing closer. And fucking call someone to meet up, don't ask them what's wrong on Facebook with a :-/ at the end.

[–]Error404NameNotFound 1 point2 points ago

He changed when were about 18 and he started getting into hard drugs. I stuck by him for a long time actually. Brought him to hospitals for rehab and therapy. The thing is if you can't be there 24 hours a day like a parent to watch him then he just does his thing.

[–]420Warrior 0 points1 point ago

If one of your oldest friends is fucking up in life you need to be there for him otherwise you should stop calling him your friend. I'm not judging you i'm just saying he's someone that you used to know.

[–]Error404NameNotFound 0 points1 point ago

That is a good point. Perhaps that is why I originally called him a ''guy I know'' in my original reply instead of a friend.

[–]littlebanshee 1 point2 points ago

That's kind of how I am with most of the family members I am facebook friends with.

[–]knightwave 2 points3 points ago

Reading that made me so depressed. Even if he is not a nice person as you alluded to in your other comment, that's still pretty bad.

[–]uzly 4 points5 points ago

its not sad, its funny. aint nothing wrong with liking everything

[–]screamingtree 2 points3 points ago

Have "likes" even been on facebook for 5 years at this point?

[–]kingdavecako 1 point2 points ago

Comments, I don't understand; however in the case of posts, every comment, like, or share they receive increases the post's weight; all of which is then applied individually to a time-decay value. Thus, one can like their post, or even comment on it to increase its position on everyone's news feed.

Formula

[–]wegotpancakes 1 point2 points ago

Liking things hasn't been around that long.

[–]teev00 0 points1 point ago

When did you become friends with my brother?

[–]brussels4breakfast 0 points1 point ago

And mine?

[–]DirtPile 0 points1 point ago

Nothing wrong with high self-esteem! :)

[–]ibitestringcheese 0 points1 point ago

This defines my life on G+. No one uses it but me.

[–]axlekoth 0 points1 point ago

if you don't like your own updates, then why post them?

[–]cincyfan04 210 points211 points ago

Man, that would be like automatically getting one up vote when you post something on Reddit.

[–]thatwasntababyruth 66 points67 points ago

Since you get the upvote automatically, I think its more like logging into your throwaway account and upvoting your post.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points ago

It would be pretty easy to get to the front page. All you need is 1000 throwaway accounts. All you need is the time and the desperation.

[–]christopheles 31 points32 points ago

Reddit has measures to counter such actions

[–]strikezone 32 points33 points ago

You say that like some burly dude is gonna beat him up.

[–]mechasmokey10 -4 points-3 points ago

I can be of assistance.

[–]Some_Burly_Dude 0 points1 point ago

So can I.

[–]mikeypikey 6 points7 points ago

[–]TheSaddestGrape 1 point2 points ago

However, there are people who have found ways to bypass this and offer their services to those who could benefit from upvotes on reddit. (I'm neither interested in spending time finding them nor publicizing their crap any further).

[–]ThisWillPass 0 points1 point ago

but does Facebook?

[–]Jorru 5 points6 points ago

I like the redditor RedditHardMode he downvotes himself

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Ahhhh, best me to it!

[–]Cadvin -1 points0 points ago

So likely to do it, it does it for you.

[–]digitalreck 134 points135 points ago

i always "self-like" when i burn one of my friends on FB. makes it sting that much more. it's like a double downvote.

[–]coolhandlucas 18 points19 points ago

Yeah. Same deal if I post something that I think is VERY funny. It makes it feel funnier to me, like laughing at my own joke, and somehow self-deprecating.

I have one girl on my feed that likes everything she posts, which I think means she either a) doesn't know how it works, exactly or b) is stoned all the time.

[–]MyUsrNameWasTaken 2 points3 points ago

or c) both a and b

[–]ego-madness 14 points15 points ago

Nothing beats downvoting yourself on reddit though. That's gutsy.

[–]fondlemeLeroy 1 point2 points ago

Only some kind of deranged maniac could do such a thing.

[–]ego-madness 0 points1 point ago

DON'T LOOK AT ME!

[–]fondlemeLeroy 3 points4 points ago

Oh I'm looking at you, and I don't particularly like what I see.

[–]ego-madness 0 points1 point ago

That's a shame. People normally love what they see, but are unable to grasp what they hear, perhaps the fuzz of incompetence in their brains, or sound of excess calling over my voice. In all situations there are a few radiant brilliances that comprehend and understand, those who comprehend and debate, and many who have no potential and have lost the passion for limitless madness in joy, my friend.

[–]a_brain 43 points44 points ago

^ This guy knows what's up.

But seriously, why wouldn't you like your own stuff? I mean you wrote it, you better damn well like what you posted.

[–]breddit21 21 points22 points ago

There's a difference between liking something in life and "Like-ing" something on Facebook.

[–]mediapl0y 24 points25 points ago

Yes, the latter is completely meaningless.

[–]breddit21 5 points6 points ago

It's easy to discredit, but hey, if it makes someone happy maybe it's not so useless.

[–]mediapl0y 2 points3 points ago

I guess I was trying to be a little tongue-in-cheek, but likely failed to express any humor. My apologies.

[–]yellowlikegold 2 points3 points ago

I think the fact that you wrote it means you like it by default? Unless you just post things which run counter to what you really think in order to get people riled up...in which case, you're likely an asshole anyway.

[–]icanhasforcepush -5 points-4 points ago

This has ALWAYS been my reply to people who give me shit for liking my own statuses. There is NO difference between liking something in real life and liking it on Facebook, otherwise you're telling me that you don't like all the bands, posts, comedians and movies that you've liked online?

[–]XtremeGnomeCakeover 3 points4 points ago

I post about shit I like or don't like and I tell people if I actually like it or not in my own description. Liking your own status is like giving yourself a high five. It's a little weird.

[–]casper75 0 points1 point ago

A friend of mine used to clap at his own jokes. Man, that was annoying to me for some reason.

[–]vertigo1083 3 points4 points ago

For some reason, I pictured 2 downvotes on a bun, complete with cheese, lettuce, and tomato.

[–]runsoutofspace 3 points4 points ago

Nah, man. Double downvote is two downvotes with cheese and bacon in the middle. You don't need a bun.

[–]MMMajor 0 points1 point ago

I use it to put emphasis on the posts I actually want people to notice since 95% of the stuff I post on FB is bullshit

[–]NewCakeDay 0 points1 point ago

It seems more like giving yourself a high five.

[–]Lazorbadger 51 points52 points ago

That gif is actually pretty depressing.

[–]IranianGenius 8 points9 points ago

[–]EelEelEel 2 points3 points ago

Slightly off topic but I love watching Texas fans in agony. Always.

[–]Himmelreich -1 points0 points ago

Fuck Texas. o/

[–]EelEelEel 0 points1 point ago

\o

[–]brussels4breakfast 0 points1 point ago

It wasn't that bad.

Forever Alone status: Milhouse

[–]Legitsu 13 points14 points ago

I like my own comments because it irks people.

[–]IAmDan2311 7 points8 points ago

I imagine that people who like their own statuses on facebook jack off to their reflections in a mirror.

[–]littlebanshee 12 points13 points ago

Isn't that a pretty normal thing to do, though?

...right?

[–]nero_sable 0 points1 point ago

[–]Microshock 14 points15 points ago

I like all my own comments cause i like the thumbs up. Hilarious how many people have their panties in a knot over it

[–]mrfenegri 3 points4 points ago

Maybe I'm just too high, but I think this is an age thing. I think the people that find "like"-ing your own facebook stuff hilarious are younger people that have grown up with social networks and have some sort of understood rules of how to behave/look cool on the internet and ...something about older people and things. and stuff.

nevermind.

I think I'm too old for Reddit.

[–]MaximilianKohler 1 point2 points ago

I'm 25 and I like most of my comments or pics that I put up that are self-humor related. I do it for the lulz man.

For example, I have a pic up where I'm posing naked with a heart over my cock.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Sheather 4 points5 points ago

So... The facebook version of Reddit then?

[–]Dlg_kat 0 points1 point ago

Which explains why Milhouse also looks like he's having sexytimes with his seesaw.

[–]Good_Guy_Graig 1 point2 points ago

Nobody likes Milhouse!

[–]Stachio 11 points12 points ago

I like my comment's on facebook...

[–]teev00 13 points14 points ago

Your comment's what?

[–]MrDudeRI 7 points8 points ago

PLEASE DO AN AMA!

[–]liarliarplants4hire 4 points5 points ago

Me too. They give you the option. Why wouldn't you?

[–]dan2737 0 points1 point ago

Because it's weird.

[–]liarliarplants4hire 2 points3 points ago

The difference between being weird and being eccentric is money... or a beret.

[–]HethLedgerBestBatman 7 points8 points ago

Kind of like leaving the orange arrow clicked on your Reddit posts, right? I always click it off to enable hard mode.

Edit: Sometimes I also insult people in fake edits to make them more likely to downvote. Makes it a challenge, but you wouldn't know anything about challenges, what with being a windows ME-using atheist pig-fucker and all.

[–]420Warrior 2 points3 points ago

I like EVERYONE'S comments not just my own.

[–]John_Redcorn126 2 points3 points ago

I like my comments because i'm hilarious and sexy, even though nobody else seems to think so.

[–]leandroc76 2 points3 points ago

This gif just plain saddens me. :(

[–]lostrock 2 points3 points ago

My friend doesn't give a shit, and Likes everything in his status. The status itself, the comments his friends make, the comments he makes on his own status...he Likes everything.

[–]yetkwai 2 points3 points ago

Anyone else just use "like" to say "yes, I've seen your post/comment, but I don't have anything to say about it?"

yetkwai likes your comment = this conversation is over.

[–]jrei 1 point2 points ago

I also do this by upvoting, it's not very effective if I'm honest.

jrei likes your comment.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I am gonna post this since nobody did http://i.imgur.com/Blk2w.gif

[–]WhichSimpsonsEpisode 2 points3 points ago

Season 3 Episode 5: "Homer Defined"

[–]Harvpup 1 point2 points ago

That guy explains my childhood

[–]DoctorBurger 1 point2 points ago

Liking your own post is stat padding!

[–]liberalis 1 point2 points ago

Does this make Milhouse a meme?

[–]spongypants3 6 points7 points ago

[–]liberalis 1 point2 points ago

sigh

[–]Misuses_Words_Often 1 point2 points ago

I do this because, if I didn't like what I said, I wouldn't have said it, so I like it.

[–]manisto 1 point2 points ago

But then again, why say something if you don't like it in the first place?

[–]haiku_robot 1 point2 points ago

But then again, why
say something if you don't like
it in the first place?

[–]maxbastard 1 point2 points ago

Sometimes, if the post is stellar, I like it, comment, then like my own comment. I think it shows commitment.

[–]dahmyou 1 point2 points ago

Sometimes you just gotta get things started.

[–]0ctopus 1 point2 points ago

On Reddit, everyone likes their own comments

[–]spunky_sheets 1 point2 points ago

If you don't like what you have to say, why say it?

[–]ShadowBelmont 1 point2 points ago*

I intentionally 'like' some of my own FB comments to make it look more ridiculous and funny, especially when I'm making joke replies and sarcasm. I observed myself that I check on who liked a comment if they are less than 10, but ignore checking when there are too many likes. Imagine the reaction when they see you 'liked' your own comment. But reading this post, it makes me wonder if people realize I was just playing around with the 'like' feature.

[–]SwansonHOPS 1 point2 points ago

It's troll tactics

[–]Its_Frosty 1 point2 points ago

I like every comment and status i make, and have for nearly a year now. Why would i say something that i do not like? If that were the case, i wouldn't say it in the first place. Also, you upvote every comment and post you make... food for thought.

[–]TheShar 3 points4 points ago

It's so sad that people crave Facebook attention to boost their self-esteem.

[–]Spartacus_Rex 29 points30 points ago

What is the definition of "Karma", Mr. Trebek?

[–]PUSSY_FEAST_420 6 points7 points ago

Ill have anal bum cover for a million.

[–]TheDude- 2 points3 points ago

I'll take the rapist for two.

[–]ShitMuncher 5 points6 points ago

I'll take famous titties for 500.

[–]behm28 3 points4 points ago

[–]muffins_4_dinner 1 point2 points ago

Suck on it, Trebek! Suck it long, and suck it hard.

[–]Jsocia 6 points7 points ago

[–]vsal[S] 0 points1 point ago

Where's your pal that doesn't like you very much?

[–]demonjrules 0 points1 point ago

Me and my Dad have the same name and he always likes anything I post so to my friends that don't know me that well think I am liking my own posts.

[–]RegisteredforNSFW 0 points1 point ago

Being new to reddit I can relate to this completely...unfortunately.

[–]OopsIFartedsRoomate 0 points1 point ago

[–]keyree 0 points1 point ago

I call it the masturlike.

[–]ErezYehuda 0 points1 point ago

This really reminds me of Life In Hell, which in turn makes me kinda miss high school.

Well, not high school. Just that time. Something like that. I dunno.

[–]SirArseToucher 0 points1 point ago

My friends and I will get into liking wars where we will like every conceivable thing on our own and each others pages just to fill up their notifications

[–]clearisacolour 0 points1 point ago

I have a facebook friend with the same first and last name as mine. I like her statuses all the time so it looks like she likes them herself.

[–]AzzaMcKazza 0 points1 point ago

I called a friend out on doing this and she claimed it helps get her posts 'seen' or 'to the top' or some such shit. More of a 'social media' strategy for her blog.

So I don't get her blog in my feed anymore.

[–]mrSalamander 0 points1 point ago

My dad has the same name as me. From time to time he likes stuff on my page. Annoys the bejeezus outta me.

[–]dangerous_beans 0 points1 point ago

Every time this has happened to me, it's been an accident. I'm usually trying to click and see who liked my comment, but I move the mouse too fast and click the "thumbs up" icon instead.

[–]Zezee 0 points1 point ago

I have a cousin who has my name exactly, I hate when she likes my stuff because people assume I'm this kid.

[–]727Super27 0 points1 point ago

I found someone on FB with the same very-uncommon name as me, friended him, and now I 'like' a whole ton of his updates so he looks really conceited.

[–]Caiity 0 points1 point ago

I have a friend that if he is at the shops or somewhere, he will tag himself in the status so it's like 'Trent C is with Trent C at....' and then he will like it, comment on it a few times and like all those comments as if he is talking to himself. I feel bad when he does it.

[–]gemineye1969 0 points1 point ago

Saddest gif ever. In my family we would say 'pit'.

[–]jane6677 0 points1 point ago

I searched for everyone on Facebook who shares my full real name and sent them friend requests. Most accepted. Now, it looks like I upvote my own comments many times over. Jane Doe, Jane Doe, Jane Doe, and 5 other people like this.

[–]negkarmafarmer 0 points1 point ago

Or maybe they just like pissing autists like you off.

[–]Melangsta 0 points1 point ago

Self-liking is a must! Why post something on facebook if you dont like it?

[–]dreamsofbetterdays 0 points1 point ago

Have a person that will like anything posted. So I posted "herpet will 'like' this post" sure enough no more than 5 minutes later....

[–]RAMBOASTIN 0 points1 point ago

My mom says I'm cool.

[–]jus_10 0 points1 point ago

I never appreciates to up votes by yourself.

[–]candlejackisheregu- 0 points1 point ago

guys I think candlejacks gonna go after milhou-

[–]ISupportLeslieKnope 0 points1 point ago

I think it's hilarious when people like their own comments, though I don't find it as amusing when it's a status.

[–]gdstudios 0 points1 point ago

Like your post, then post a comment, "Like". Like the comment.

[–]Langston_huge 0 points1 point ago

There is someone on face book who shares my name, some times he likes my comments, I feel weird about it.

[–]gruhfuss 0 points1 point ago

I use it to either demonstrate trolling or that someone posted through my account while I was on the toilet.

[–]UhhImJef 0 points1 point ago

Doing this is like high-fiving yourself!

[–]thepeoplesvoice 0 points1 point ago

Liking your own comments is totally sweet. It's like giving yourself a pat on the back for pwning fools

[–]Tandembikeforone 0 points1 point ago

I always thought of it as self affirmation. Like saying "YUP... I'm hilarious and sexy. Fuck Yea"

[–]xteve 0 points1 point ago

Ah, in some cases I think it's just that people have learned to push every damn button twice to get a piece-of-shit machine to work. Clicking on "like" may be no more than a confirmation gesture -- "yes I approve that I said that."

[–]bored_in_the_office 0 points1 point ago

I have a MALE friend I was going to school with, he must be like 22 now, he likes his own comments and is a BIG fan of Justion Bieber.
I just say "please stop it man" to myself when I see his own post and his only one like-from him.
There are many people who are liking their stuff and I don't understand that, but that guy...

[–]NigChinSoBig 0 points1 point ago

I always mocked a friend of mine for liking his own comments, but he presented me this piece of flawless logic.

"why would you post it if you didn't like it."

[–]chesterberry 0 points1 point ago

the actual posting of the comment shows you like it.there's no need to reiterate it.

[–]igotl2k 0 points1 point ago

Its like masturbating while watching there own ass

[–]vrs 0 points1 point ago

I do it sometimes. Whoever doesn't play with themselves raise a hand.

[–]savagebeaver 0 points1 point ago

I added all the people with my name so that I can like their status's and make them seem pathetic.

[–]smoakme 0 points1 point ago

Well, I guess it's better than this at least:

http://lileks.com/institute/funny/07art/41.jpg

[–]LacksRethics 0 points1 point ago

HEY THATS ME!

BUT THATS BECAUSE I TREAT FACEBOOK LIKE A JOEK!

[–]tinylittleninja 0 points1 point ago

I do this, purely for the "why do you like your own comment" comments.

[–]leo2308 0 points1 point ago*

I have a friend who keeps removing and re-adding people (I've been removed/re-added at least 10 times) He does this just to make it look like hes constantly gaining friends from all the constant 'x is now friends with y' notifications.

[–]JohnCthulhu 0 points1 point ago

Sort of unrelated, but that gif shows just how much better the animation was in the older Simpsons episodes.

That slight bend that the see-saw does is a little animation touch that you never see any more in the newer episodes (well, the ones I've seen). I find the animation in later Simpsons episodes to be far too stiff and robotic looking.

[–]Ninjasantaclause 0 points1 point ago

Hate to tell you this but everytime you comment on reddit you automatically upvote it so theres really no difference

[–]HolyCheck22 0 points1 point ago

liking your own comment is an art form. you need to use it properly and powerfully. If you like it because you're a like collector then yes its sad. but if you rub some ones nose in some thing, give it two minutes to make sure theyve seen it.. then like your own comment. it just adds insult to injury

[–]Jackski 0 points1 point ago

Too many of my friends do this on my facebook. To the point of when I post these kind of jokes about people liking their own comments no-one likes the picture or status I post

[–]zpeed 0 points1 point ago

I like Conan O'Brien's take on it.

[–]xBeDOSx 0 points1 point ago

Any know what episode this is? thanks

[–]UserlessInterface 0 points1 point ago

gif - me with the "likes my own status"

[–]UserlessInterface 0 points1 point ago

without*. i hate how i can't edit posts on mobile

[–]Larfur 0 points1 point ago

Why would I not like my own comments, I'm hilarious!

[–]GurkanG 0 points1 point ago

May be that someone "faceraped" him/her and she/he liked the status because they thought it to be funny aswell? I've done this a few times myself.

[–]CODfiend 0 points1 point ago

As you up-vote your own post...

[–]LessLikeYou 0 points1 point ago

[–]modsherearefags 0 points1 point ago

My favorite is when somebody post something like, "I have the flu" and half their friends like it.

[–]MyNameIsJoey 0 points1 point ago

forever alone <3

[–]TRAUMAjunkie 0 points1 point ago

Liking your own status is like giving yourself a high five.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I ran into the issue that I had a Facebook friend who has the exact same name as me, so whenever he liked one of my posts it looked like I was liking my own post.

He is no longer my Facebook friend.

[–]Clowens 0 points1 point ago

According to my Comparative politics professor, People in Morocco always like their own Facebook statuses, unless its a negative status. But she may have just been trying to write off why she likes her own statuses...

[–]MarburgDE 0 points1 point ago

why wouldn't i "like" my own post if i truly do like it

[–]brussels4breakfast 0 points1 point ago

I know someone who 'likes' their own comments on FB. I think doing that is stupid and narcissistic. Well, so is the person I know.

[–]StifmeisterBry 0 points1 point ago

I actually do this, but mainly just to annoy the people who get annoyed by it, haha.

[–]kiwisdontbounce 0 points1 point ago

Liking something increases the chances that it shows up on someone's feed, so I like all the political stuff I post to increase exposure.

[–]beetnemesis 0 points1 point ago

One day when I was bored, I searched for everyone on Facebook with my name "Joe Smith." I found two Joe Smiths, one Joseph Smith, and one Smith Joe. Friended them all in a fit of whimsy.

Now whenever they like something I post, I have to explain to everyone that no, I'm not Joseph Smith, Joseph Smith is just a Central American DJ who really appreciates my link to that Back to the Future novelization tumblr (here)

*My name isn't actually Joe Smith... OR IS IT

[–]LeonTheWorst 0 points1 point ago

TIL people take facebook waaaaaaay too seriously.

[–]Phil_Bond 0 points1 point ago

I'd like to see a gif for that person who "likes" ALL THE THINGS, ALL THE TIME, EVERY SINGLE THING, ALWAYS.

I had her blocked for a while, but that resulted in drama because she's a member of a group I administrate. One day, I saw her post a status complaining that Facebook wouldn't let her click "like" anymore, because she had used up her lifetime allotment of likes. I couldn't resist. I liked and "liked" that.

[–]pomofundies 0 points1 point ago

My ex-girlfriend liked changing her status to single about 5 minutes after we broke up from her cheating on me. Some people are hilariously insensitive.

[–]coatkeysphone 0 points1 point ago

There is a girl at my work who always leaves her page open. A lot of coworkers post as her. I just make her like her own things.

[–]mrjimi16 0 points1 point ago

Well...everyone on Reddit does that...

[–]siqniz 0 points1 point ago

Liking your own post is like sucking your own cock

[–]BeyondLiquid 0 points1 point ago

I like all the posts of me and a stupid person, I normally quote their circular reasoning word for word to satire them, and then requote their circular reasoning word for word to satire them, and then requote their circular reasoning word for word to satire them, and then requote their circular reasoning over and over to satire them.

I live in an area with smart "faith is faith" christians and stupid "lol have no faith in anything science will discover everything" atheists. I assume it's like living in australia, except less spiders and more annoying.
