This and Streets of Rage were my first introductions to mindless violence.

[–]nimie 25 points26 points ago*

Brilliant games. Golden axe was a good one also.

[–]theidlecapitalist 15 points16 points ago

Mustn't forget Shinobi

[–]dustybizzle 4 points5 points ago

They came in the 3 in one game, right?

[–][deleted] ago

[–]ifap4 1 point2 points ago

it was called columns

[–]Barb0 4 points5 points ago

I still think that Streets of Rage 2 is the only game that I can play at any given time and beat the whole thing and absolutely love it.

[–]therealodayaka 2 points3 points ago

I usually play as Skate, but Max is good 'cause he'll swing that fucking bat/pipe behind him.

[–]Barb0 1 point2 points ago

I'm axel all the way. That dude has some nasty jump kicks.

[–]therealodayaka 0 points1 point ago

"BEAR KNUCKLE"

[–]therealodayaka 1 point2 points ago

My Grandfather actually introduced me to SoR. He also got me into RPGs like DnD and Shining Force. He let my brother and I play Mortal Kombat with the blood on.

He got us our first Sega Genesis when I was 7.

Coolest. Grandpa. Ever.

[–]danceswithronin 28 points29 points ago

One of my favorites too. Nothing quite as cathartic as beating someone off their motorcycle while going 70 down a highway.

That's taking "throw someone under the bus" to a whole new level.

[–]MiloMuggins 25 points26 points ago

Nothing quite as cathartic as beating someone off ಠ_ಠ

Seriously though, it was all great until you crashed and had to spend five minutes jogging back to your bike.

[–]Gorrn[S] 9 points10 points ago

Crashed by hitting some oil or a cow and going for miles.

[–]Mintograde 10 points11 points ago

The worst was when your body hit several shrubs in a row, keeping you airborne and sending you 2 or 3 times farther than usual.

[–]kaerras 7 points8 points ago

I remember that in the version on Game Gear, you could control your dude while he was running back to your bike. Every so often, for kicks, I would just start running down the road and see how far I could get. The cops would pull you over for speeding.

[–]weetchex 0 points1 point ago

I'd be pissed off that I crashed, but the sound those cows made when you hit them . . .

[–]CraigChrist 1 point2 points ago

MERRRRRRRRR

[–]AtomicHaircut 1 point2 points ago

My favorite was kicking bikers into oncoming cars. And the sound effects for hitting with the chain and club were so damn good.

[–]Armour87 0 points1 point ago

Who could forget wiping out old ladies on Zimmerframes too?

[–]d_wilson123 12 points13 points ago

For reasons unknown to myself almost everytime I played this game I would just grind the first track to save up money to buy the Diablo. It took like an hour and half each time :/

[–]theiridule 2 points3 points ago

taking corners on that thing were lethal.. especially when you refuse to use the brakes

[–]contrapulator 9 points10 points ago

There were brakes?

[–]Zombiii 0 points1 point ago

I did this as well. That bike was so fast, especially on the first levels where you weren't supposed to have that bike yet.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points ago

I loved the 3DO version.

[–]DogShitBurrito 3 points4 points ago

Fuck yeah. The soundtrack was an amazing 90's time capsule of grunge metal.

[–]davodeth 2 points3 points ago

Remember the song from the intro video Jessie by Paw.. That was a kick ass song

[–]Jonbds 1 point2 points ago

Introduced me to Soundgarden, one of my favourite bands nowadays.

[–]BenjiBlakeway 1 point2 points ago

Every time I hear Rusty Cage I think of Road Rash

[–]dmr83457 22 points23 points ago

Skitchin was awesome as well.

[–]Tophat_Benny 4 points5 points ago

the music and the names of the npcs were the best.

[–]TurdS 8 points9 points ago

I don't know why, but the other rider named Viper was always my primary target. I didn't care if I got first or not, as long as I made Viper eat some road during the race. Dude was a dick.

[–]Gorrn[S] 13 points14 points ago

I hated Biff, he just seemed smug.

[–]SockGnome 2 points3 points ago

I thought he was the Biff from Back to the Future. Hate that guy.

[–]DogShitBurrito 3 points4 points ago

DUDE. Me too. In my young mind I had a very intense ongoing fued with Viper. I think he was consistently the 'best' npc rider, so he'd always be towards the front of the pack.

And I'm pretty sure he was always packing a chain.

[–]EdricStorm 2 points3 points ago

Nah, it was fucking Mike dude. For me, Mike was the boss that had to be defeated to take first.

Always had the best damn bike, beat the shit out of everyone.

I played it on the PSX though.

[–]DogShitBurrito 2 points3 points ago

Indeed, Mike was a dick. It was so satisfying when you would kick those fuckers into oncoming traffic at full speed.

[–]TurdS 1 point2 points ago

That jerk always had a good weapon!

[–]HarryBall 2 points3 points ago

There is no better felling than chaining P.E. number 1 in the face or kicking Lawson into the path of an oncoming car on Road Rash 2. One of my all time favorite games. Had that soundtrack rocking the bus home today

[–]topical_storm 2 points3 points ago

Yes, 100%. Viper PURPOSELY drifted over to engage you for no fucking good reason! Guy was a complete fuckface. But, the good thing was, you could anticipate his aggressive dickishness: if you pulled into range, you could time when Viper's douche gene would suddenly kick into effect, and grab his chain. Which was especially useful to have because his normal position was immediately before all the good racers, maybe 7th or 8th position.

[–]UwasaWaya 0 points1 point ago

I had forgotten about Viper until just now. Holy crap, I hated him. Went out of my way to steal a chain to beat him with. I loved parking my bike on him so he couldn't stand. What a douche.

[–]goofy1771 7 points8 points ago

By far, the game most deserving of a remake. Enough sequels already! Oh, and Mutant League Football!

[–]DogShitBurrito 1 point2 points ago

YES. Mutant League Football could be SO epic today.

[–]BonesJackson 3 points4 points ago

I agree but I may be biased.

[–]DogShitBurrito 0 points1 point ago

epic.

[–]ion64 0 points1 point ago

Yes, and Baseball Simulator 1.000!

[–]tomdoughty94 4 points5 points ago

Did you ever read the Road Rash novel? That is a classic piece of literature.

[–]DogShitBurrito 6 points7 points ago

Oh wow.

Cover

Back Cover

I would love to get my hands on a copy of this.

[–]UwasaWaya 0 points1 point ago

No. Wait, what? Just... I don't just what? No. Just no. No no no.

[–]Selffaw 15 points16 points ago

Story time; When I was 5 or 6, I was racing my younger brother up the block, back to my house. I told him that the rules were like Road Rash, and pushing and hitting was allowed. I ended up pushing him into a bush, and a branch went through the bottom of his chin and up into his mouth. I STILL LOVED THIS GAME THOUGH

[–]uchallenginme 12 points13 points ago

youre the reason we cant have nice things!!

[–]USMCsniper 2 points3 points ago

my brothers and i had chain locks for our bikes and we used to play road rash irl and whip eachother with the chains while racing

also, why did road rash have that yellow clip on the cartridge?

[–]boognerd 0 points1 point ago

I think all EA genesis games had it. Not sure why. Maybe EA wanted to seem special.

[–]poop457 4 points5 points ago

Soundgarden used on the soundtrack too. Fantastic game.

[–]texcolorado 1 point2 points ago

Kickstand, you got loose and I threw up!

[–]theiridule 5 points6 points ago

Viper was a prick!

[–]gogozombie2 8 points9 points ago

Wasn't there rumors of a remake in the works with Skid Row doing the soundtrack?

[–]SmartieLion 6 points7 points ago

There -is- Road rash 64 which wasn't that bad...

[–]sakipooh 2 points3 points ago

I would pay good money for this. I just love the dynamic camera angle as you turn.

[–]smells_like_fish 0 points1 point ago

This is only an animator showing a concept of what a Road Rash game would look like.

[–]gogozombie2 2 points3 points ago

http://www.gamespot.com/news/skid-row-frontman-reveals-new-road-rash-6235111

Found an old-ass link. Can't find any newer info though.

[–]fadedVHS 3 points4 points ago

I've long wanted a remake of this series more than Twisted Metal, SSX, or Mortal Kombat. This series was genius, just mirth and mayhem. And since I know EA is so DLC-happy I'll propose the expansion right now - post-apocalyptic pack.

[–]RiggsRector 1 point2 points ago

Hmm. This article says Starbreeze Studios is making it. While they haven't put anything out yet, they just put out Syndicate, so many its their next project? Wishful thinking...

[–]wickedcold 0 points1 point ago

Sebastian Bach was the sole source of this story?

[–]handl3r 1 point2 points ago

I heard it was going to have trains in it

[–]patjs92 3 points4 points ago

This game introduced me to Soundgarden. Thanks Road Rash!

[–]Furyhunter 2 points3 points ago

I can still hear the theme of Road Rash 3 very clearly.

[–]contrapulator 2 points3 points ago

That song and the "YEAH!" sound effect when you grab someone's weapon are permanently ingrained in my memory.

[–]the_bowtie_killer 0 points1 point ago

Wasn't that the one where you could use a cattle prod as a weapon?

[–]Sandinister 0 points1 point ago

You had to steal it from that prick Walleye. Hated that guy.

[–]fwywarrior 2 points3 points ago

There was also the hilarious N64 version.

http://youtu.be/0YBIZhQC1RE

[–]jkire 2 points3 points ago

Anytime a Road Rash game was on Sega Channel was a great month.

[–]glitchbox 2 points3 points ago

Best played on the 3DO.

[–]WobbleSneak 2 points3 points ago

Just me and my trusty Chain by my side.

[–]Erythroy 3 points4 points ago

[–]PUSClFER 2 points3 points ago

NO. FUCKING. WAY.

I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE TITLE OF THIS GAME FOR ATLEAST 15 YEARS. I GREW UP WITH THIS FUCKING GAME.

CAPITAL LETTERS BECAUSE OF EXCITENESS.

DOWNLOAD LINK!

[–]himmelkrieg 0 points1 point ago

I love you forever for providing this link.

[–]randomguy1301 0 points1 point ago

Awesome

[–]Two_Kebabs 2 points3 points ago

I spent so many hours playing this on Sega MegaDrive (Genesis in America). It was a game before it's time. Great graphics, awesome sound and the ability to smack other drivers off their ride! I'm not even a motorbike racing fan. This game was just awesome!

[–]powerk24 1 point2 points ago

Ah man, I completely forgot about this, I played with my cousin pretty much every day for months

[–]iamiorns 1 point2 points ago

After winning the race the cutscenes were awesome !

[–]Pillowthrasher 1 point2 points ago

my favorite thing to do was kick another bike into a mile marker or stop sign while flying down the track as fast as possible.

[–]ScreaminMime 1 point2 points ago

that General Chaos and WarSong, sure wish they would update these three titles and lay off the first-person [yaaaaaaawn] shooters.

[–]IAmNotAFox 0 points1 point ago

General Chaos is something I never hear anyone mention about their childhood. That game is amazing and I love the different personalities to each type of soldier. Just bought it a week ago for $10 just to fulfill my nostalgia urge.

[–]eldersmithdan 1 point2 points ago

They really should have named that franchise "Dicks on Motorbikes".

[–]Gorrn[S] 1 point2 points ago

Which platforms did you all have it on? I only had it on the Amiga.

[–]DogShitBurrito 0 points1 point ago

1 and 2 on Genesis and then the 3DO version. All were amazing.

[–]lewolfmano 1 point2 points ago

key to winning? the bat

[–]Agent_Fubar 1 point2 points ago

YEAH!!! Every damn weekend I used to rent this game from Coborns, if anybody is not familiar with that store, it's only in Minnesota.

So many memories of going into the video store with my dad and picking out the same game. This game was like my past time when I was little, it was the ice to my cream, the cream to my ice.

[–]quietstormx1 1 point2 points ago

I accidentally discovered a glitch in the game that would give you infinite money and/or unlocked the best motorcycles in the game. It was at the start menu, if you pressed the directional pad in a certain direction while selecting a certain menu option, it would unlock everything.

It was so awesome.

[–]DogShitBurrito 0 points1 point ago

I love that story.

[–]mrrobs 0 points1 point ago

Haven't played this game for over 15 years. Can still remember the code for best bike on level 1 though - 11101 02ET1 0106F 1VEMO If someone still has the genesis version give it a go!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Holy Shit! I remember I used to play this all the time when I was 6. Thanks bringing back the memories.

[–]Solleks132 1 point2 points ago

Sega Genesis was the greatest.

[–]cac2976 1 point2 points ago

Oh man, you just reminded me what we did we were younger. Obviously this game was begging to be replicated in real life so we would ride down our street on our bicycles beating the shit out of each other with bike chains, bats, and whatever else we could find.

Where were my parents! It was a much simpler time, I suppose.

[–]Blues39 1 point2 points ago

First one of these posts in a while that doesn't reference the late 90's as their "childhood". Feeling just about the right age with this one.

[–]captain_right 1 point2 points ago

I had demo version with only 1 track and you start without a weapon so all I ever did was spend half the race trying to steal a chain and other half fucking up the other racers with it.

[–]randomguy1301 0 points1 point ago

Haha me too.

[–]Oniwabanshu 1 point2 points ago

I remembered being kicked and crashed with a parked car...i flew all the way to the finish line.

[–]chuckwagen 1 point2 points ago

I'm an avid motorcyclist and one reason I even started riding was because of Road Rash 3D. Coincidentally I rode my motorcycle today and played RR3D for a couple hours each today. O.O

[–]PoisonCoyote 1 point2 points ago

The 3DO version was my favorite. I still have it.

[–]EstebanEscobar 0 points1 point ago

Still can't believe I saved 300 dollars for that 3DO only to have it be obsolete before I could even afford to buy any more games, Road Rash was worth it though. I still have the console to..

[–]xplush86x 1 point2 points ago

i did a fucking all nighter at my friends house till 2am and finally had to give up on buying that expensive bloody Italiano bike. one of the biggest gaming failures of my childhood

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

One of my favorite games

FTFY

[–]nick041 1 point2 points ago

Kids today will never know anything about finishing a race until they leave their bike on the ground to prevent it from blowing up and running to the end just to finish and hoping they won't hear sirens.

[–]someone31988 1 point2 points ago

The third one really was the best on the Genesis. I really love Road Rash 3D on the Playstation, though.

[–]zimm3rmann 2 points3 points ago

But guys we hate EA, right? Guys?

[–]drdreyfus 12 points13 points ago

EA was awesome in the 90s.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points ago

EA is just like Hitler; they did some good stuff in the beginning.

[–]Jonathan_Turnbuckle 9 points10 points ago

And then killed millions of Jews just like Hitler.

[–]Jsuse 0 points1 point ago

There was n post on this a while back.

[–]onlineidenity 0 points1 point ago

I loved this on sega, this was the game that got my dad to play video games with me and my brother.

[–]mmmbacon914 0 points1 point ago

named my dog Jessie after the song from the PC version. I kinda liked this game a lot...

[–]allnamestakenffs 0 points1 point ago

Beating hookers on the backs of bikes with chains, that's all i remember

[–]Whatyadoingwillis 0 points1 point ago

Well I like knocking cops off the bikes.

[–]Frankstg 0 points1 point ago

I even had all the last bikes. I think there was a green bike that I liked so much. Then I lost my saves and didn't play again.

[–]Moertel 0 points1 point ago

YES!YES!YES! This game was released before I was even born...damn. I think I've never finished it - does anybody know if it still works on Win7 64-bit machines?

[–]theiridule 1 point2 points ago

It does, I'm playing it now on the Gens emulator. So much nostalgia...

[–]Moertel 0 points1 point ago

Nice!

[–]Demojen 0 points1 point ago

Here's some music to go with your road rash from the road rash ps1 soundtrack.

The Tea Party - Temptation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFzQX2i6mwo

[–]YSignal 0 points1 point ago

A remake with online multiplayer would be awesome.

[–]Human_Robot 0 points1 point ago

This game had one of the best run animations ever.

[–]glookx2 0 points1 point ago

Nice try, EA.

[–]akav0id 0 points1 point ago

...and because it's Electronic Arts IP, we'll never see a remake beyond this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjgIED7KJLk

[–]nicksnare 0 points1 point ago

Sounds like a condition you get from being on a bike for took long.

[–]Masoompeshaach 0 points1 point ago

This game introduced me to some great music.

Also, whipping people in the face repeatedly with a chain was fun.

[–]Elrox 0 points1 point ago

Still waiting for it to be ported to my iphone.

[–]Matt1freek 0 points1 point ago

Agreed, I would get dibs on the tv whenever this was available on sega channel

[–]Dontfeedthehookers 0 points1 point ago

I remember hacking the code so we could get faster bikes and extra perks. Took me longer to hack the code than it would have to just progress normally but it was fun "beating" the system.

[–]KincSoup 0 points1 point ago

This game might be why I ride a motorcycle.

[–]OperatorMike 0 points1 point ago

I'd love to see a remake of this. where there is more attention paid to which gang you are in and what people think of you.

[–]purebanana 0 points1 point ago

Sega MegaDrive/Genesis and Amiga versions fucking owned. The later playstation version really sucked.

[–]Jamotron 0 points1 point ago

This game is posted about once a week. Not that I mind, it's still awesome.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Sick game

[–]Barb0 0 points1 point ago

There was no better feeling than when you finally swiped a chain from somebody and tossed their ass into the street with it.

[–]CompanyMan 1 point2 points ago

"YEAH"

[–]cannedmilkoncookies 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for posting! I was looking for the name of this game for "years".

[–]SarahBeara231 0 points1 point ago

God, I love you for posting this. I, however, played Road Rash II.

[–]bobthejourney 0 points1 point ago

Greatest game ever.

[–]DOWNWTDASICKNESS 0 points1 point ago

[–]xanderphate 0 points1 point ago

Oh man I loved this game, I think I still have a copy at my parents house laying about

[–]voodoochild1997 0 points1 point ago

Did Kawasaki's ever have dual, round headlights? I know Honda's and Suzuki's used to, don't know about Kawi's though...

Great game, btw

[–]duchovny 0 points1 point ago

Ok.

[–]Vaelras 0 points1 point ago

Road rash 64 was amazing. Perfect game to play in between goldeneye or perfect dark sessions.

[–]majormantastic 0 points1 point ago

What's more sadistic, beating someone with a chain on this until they fly off their bike into the verge or creating a ride from hell on the original theme park that would hurl people to their inevitable death?

[–]kilmore_trout 0 points1 point ago

Oh the days when EA actually made interesting games.

[–]letsstumphannah 0 points1 point ago

This was the only video game that I could beat my little brother at on Sega Genesis. He would get so mad too!

[–]phynix20000 0 points1 point ago

LOL i remember crashing and watching the guy slide for a long time then get up and have to run back to it.

[–]Ugbrog 0 points1 point ago

I played 1 and 2 on genesis with my friends.

We preferred 2 on account of the chain.

[–]hxcNoah 0 points1 point ago

favourite line when I got annoyed

"Viper has a Diaper!"

[–]shreyasderp 0 points1 point ago

Damn my cousins in India still play this.

[–]LordTourettes 0 points1 point ago

I used to play this game with my dad when I was like, 5. Totally forgot about it

[–]chainmailws6 0 points1 point ago

Anyone remember the secret black bike that you could only get with a cheat code? That thing was so fast it would fly off of the screen when you hit a big hill. Greatest fucking thing ever.

[–]AtomicHaircut 0 points1 point ago

I think Rod Rash is probably the best racing game ever made. Sega's version of Mario Kart. Why can't we get a decent sequel to this game? One that isn't all cartoony and stupid-looking.

[–]SockGnome 0 points1 point ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFkxYUxxtD4

This game got me into Soundgarden.

[–]Ginger_Slayer 0 points1 point ago

I dated a girl a few years ago that still had her Sega hooked up. I'd come over extra early and play. I'd also tell her that I didn't like her outfit so that she'd change a bunch of times while I kicked ass in this game.

[–]furywarrior 0 points1 point ago

[–]dwalker39 0 points1 point ago

yeah can they please bring this to iphone so I can play it again?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Sucked when they made it so you had to get the dlc for the true ending though.

[–]hairyassandballs 0 points1 point ago

My cousin and I would play this game for hours as kids.

we had a weird song that we would sing and make stupid noises.

"ME ON MY BIKE (pause shortly).. IS SO DELICOUS!" Followed by VROOM VROOM.. while melee'd each other.

no drugs.. just stupid fun

[–]MrBigRillo 0 points1 point ago

My uncle gave this to me and my sister when we were like 7 and 9. Got to play for about 45 minutes before our mom banned us from it... biggest tease of my life, that game was awesome.

[–]therealodayaka 0 points1 point ago

My brother and I played RR2 TO. DEATH.

We loved using the cheat to get the Wild Thing as well... going flying to fucking China when you hit a goddamned cow.

[–]Risen37 0 points1 point ago

I would love for Criterion to make a Road Rash game.

[–]ctrlaltskeet 0 points1 point ago

Hated Belladonna.

[–]Jamie_W 0 points1 point ago

And, er... who made this game?

[–]J-Codo 0 points1 point ago

I'll leave this here

[–]IntellegentIdiot 0 points1 point ago

Ah, the days when EA was a byword for quality and not milking their franchises annually. This was one of the best EA games along with Dessert strike. When they showed the 3DO versions "screenshot" it looked like miracles were possible.

[–]Gorrn[S] 0 points1 point ago

Did you ever play Jungle Strike? I never had Dessert Strike.

[–]IntellegentIdiot 0 points1 point ago

I really can't remember, I don't think so. I may even have played Desert Strike twice on two different systems. There was even a 3rd game that I only found out about thanks to wikipedia, Urban strike.

[–]murthis 0 points1 point ago

This game made me love Soundgarden

[–]Trygon 0 points1 point ago

I loved this game as a kid and Road Rash 2, I just couldn't get into 3 and beyond that they just were not as good as 1 & 2 in my opinion. Also I love the music in both games, I would love to hear updated versions of the OST to this game with actual instruments.

[–]WarPhalange -1 points0 points ago

DAE LIKE THIS EXTREMELY POPULAR GAME? I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE REDDIT!!11

[–]foxdrop 0 points1 point ago

except he doesn't say "does anyone else like this game", he simply says "one of my favourite games". this whole thread is intended just for reminiscing and nostalgia.

[–]Kiyiko 3 points4 points ago

No, this thread is intended for karma.

What's the last time you saw someone make a self post "I really enjoyed streets of rage when I was young." - "discuss."

If this were text rather than imgur, nobody would give a fuck. Just a circle jerk.

[–]JetpackAwaaay 0 points1 point ago

I usually downvote when people just post covers retro games cause I hate it, but I upvoted this simply because you didn't make the title "Anybody remember this?" or "Am I the only one who played this?" or the suchlike.

Plus Road Rash fuckin' rules.

[–]TKSFGK 0 points1 point ago

The most played thing on my PSP.

[–]Gorrn[S] -1 points0 points ago

Even the theme song (for Amiga) was badass. http://youtu.be/m-8CssSL7_g

[–]Cousins2007 -1 points0 points ago

All I remember doing in this game was getting sticks and smacking the other racers over and over and over again.

[–]marshdabeachy -1 points0 points ago

Road Rash was my favorite game from my childhood. Now that I'm in the industry, it'd be my dream to work on a remake.

Except I'd have to work for EA to do it. :-/

[–]topical_storm -2 points-1 points ago

"Big deal, brah. So what? Throw party?"

[–]topical_storm 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for not getting the Kakana reference, downvoters. Sigh.
