        An interesting thought I once had: when you are in a room with a smoker or walk past one on the street, the smell of smoke means you are inhaling what they have exhaled. That means every day you're around other people, you are passing that same amount of air back and forth, walk down a city street and all you're breathing is air that's been inside of other people and animals...

        It's not BS. It's talking the inert gas like argon that we breathe in daily. Since they are inert (noble gases!), the same argon atoms that Caesar had in his lungs just float around being inert until now. And throughout his life time, obviously he had touched a ridiculous amount of argon atoms with his lungs. So it's not that surprising.

The number in each breath multiplied by the number of breaths Caesar took means his breath is fucking everywhere, on a subatomic level.

        It's not CO2, it's nitrogen. CO2 has an average lifetime around 10 years. Nitrogen has much longer lifetimes (can't remember exactly but but it's over a million years easily)

        The troposphere (lower atmosphere) is extremely well circulated. Due to the rotation of the Earth, it would only take a few weeks for air to travel from, say, New York to Beijing. Transport between the northern and southern hemisphere takes much longer, but still only on the order of months or years. It's a safe assumption that the entire troposphere has been well mixed since Caesar's life.

        The fact that our breaths contain molecules from Caesar has absolutely nothing to do with quantum mechanics. It is due to the stability of nitrogen (extremely long lifetimes), the well mixedness of the troposphere (at least over the 2000ish years since Caesar) and the fact that with every breath you inhale a shit ton of nitrogen molecules.

              From Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Cannabinoids:

              THC is detectable in plasma only seconds after the first puff of a cannabis cigarette with peak plasma concentrations being measured 3–10 minutes after onset of smoking. Systemic bioavailability generally ranges between about 10 and 35%, and regular users are more efficient. Bioavailability varies according to depth of inhalation, puff duration and breathhold. A systemic bioavailability of 23 ± 16% and 27 ± 10% for heavy users versus 10 ± 7% and 14 ± 1% for occasional users of the drug was reported. In a study with a smoking machine, patterns of cannabis smoking were simulated with regard to puff duration and volume, resulting in 16 to 19% of THC in the mainstream smoke. If the whole cigarette was smoked in one puff the percentage of THC in the mainstream increased to 69%. About 30% is assumed to be destroyed by pyrolysis. With smoking, additional THC is lost in the butt, in sidestream smoke, and by incomplete absorption in the lungs. Smoking a pipe that produces little sidestream smoke may also result in high effectiveness, with 45% of THC transferred via the mainstream smoke in one smoker tested.

              As a not a biologist, I've heard that while holding for a longer period of time certainly increases THC absorption, it doesn't increase it significantly to be worth it compared to the amount of carcinogens that are also absorbed in that time. I don't really know though.

              It's not wasteful. if you share your toke like in the gif yes you will only get content from what you inhale but the other guy can bring it in deep. But let's say you French inhale or other tricks where the smoke is coming back into your own mouth then you can absolutely bring it in deep. But for "o"s and stuff the smoke of weed is so thick you can blow an o or two and still have plenty of smoke left for your lungs and mind to enjoy off one hit.

              They're also all assuming this is tobacco. Cannabis has not been shown to cause lung cancer, and these guys look like the smoke some weed.

              Also, there are several reasons to smoke these days, one of which is good. Alcohol and coffee and mediocre reasons, but damn if they aren't better with a smoke. Many workplaces, for retarded reasons, refuse to give people five minute breaks to just chill out, but seem more than happy to allow smokers extended breaks to go get their nic fix. Unfair, sure, but if that gets you ten minutes of paid time off, good for you.

              The only good reason, though, is that there is nothing like a cigarette after really good sex. Absolutely nothing.

                I doubt it's fake. Smoke rings are surprisingly easy to make if you practice. I spent a summer learning how to do it. I can't get mine going as fast or far as this dude, but my friend who taught me to do them could mimic the guy on the video pretty easily. And it takes no skill to suck it up, although he did it at the perfect speed so it looks awesome.

                    But to be fair, I know a fair number of people who became pot heads in high school. When they graduated, they took jobs like working at a gas station or warehouse jobs that paid shit, and worked there for over 10 years because they didn't want to do anything but smoke pot and work. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying it is what it is.
