Fair enough, but somebody can do something about it. And if the mods supported the NSFL tag, it might get the necessary attention.

Distinguishing acceptable from offensive content is not a new challenge that's confined to Reddit. "I know it when I see it" is almost 50 years old now.

Reddit's community does, however, seem to understand certain standards. If there's nudity, it gets NSFW. It seems reasonable to say that if something shows gore or death, it gets an NSFL tag.

This isn't censorship. It just gives the community a bit of information so people can enjoy using the site without being worried they'll unexpectedly see something that's pretty repulsive. In this example, no one had any reason to think a post called "Fire" would show a man's falling to his death while engulfed in flames.

Kemitche's argument relies on the phony "slippery slope" argument. Making one reasonable distinction does not mean all distinctions must now be made. If you want a real-world example, look at the people who say legalizing gay marriage means we will also eventually legalize marriages between humans and animals.

Agree fully. A NSFL tag shouldn't be too hard to implement with the current NFSW implementation ready to be carbon copied, with the slight change of one simple letter.

And if for some reason the mods deem this unworthy of their attention, they can atleast enforce that "NFSL" posts use the NSFW tag instead, because I'm pretty sure seeing a guy falling to his death whilst on fire is also an image pretty likely to get you fired, and this isn't the first post that isn't properly tagged.

This post has neither tag and the mods aren't doing anything about it.

These types of posts must have an NSFL tag.

The real concern for me is less what is being posted (as long as it is tagged properly), but huge numbers of upvotes that these "hilarious" snuff gifs seem to be getting. What the fuck is wrong with you people?

Most of it isn't even WTF though, some gore might have WTF in it but by default they aren't WTF. If you see a broken leg you know exactly what has happened, same with a guy being shot in the face (both have been on the front page within the last few days) so you don't even say WTF and there are plenty of us that just don't care for it.

If that's your thing then there's /r/spacedicks and probably an /r/gore too.
