... and I really wanted a unicorn too.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

But there are still alicorns, right?

[–]Anon3mous1 4 points5 points ago

Shit just got real.

[–]TheBellyButton 3 points4 points ago

We have them, they are just fat and grey and called Rhinos.

[–]Snoutmol 2 points3 points ago

They could exist. It's not like science has proved it's impossible for a white horse to have a horn on its forehead.

You better mean 1543 B.C.E, because if you mean C.E. the entire Ionian nation would like a word with you. Trust me, you don't want hoplites knocking on your door.

Upvote for what I was going to say. Also, what about the mainland Greeks, like Socrates?

[–]linearcore 0 points1 point ago

I went with the Ionians because they're the oldest example of a large population going "scientific" that I know. At least recorded in Western culture. If there are older, I would love to know.

But yes, Socrates and Athens would have been a good example too.

Don't forget about dragons.

Damn scientists and their anti-dragon agenda.

[–]chamora 1 point2 points ago

I would say the discovery of DNA has done pretty well for unicorns. While science debunks geocentricity and intelligent design, it has actually shown unicorns to be plausible.

Edit: After reading the unicorn wiki page....

Nevermind.

[–]SkyNTP 0 points1 point ago

What if I told you, science could be used to make unicorns a reality?

[–]chamora 0 points1 point ago

Their horns contain elixir. Unless you can make an elixir, they can not be a reality.

Upvote for your username, LSD_freakout...

...we've all been there

Downvoting for stealing SMBC's material. Attribution and a direct link is all Zach Wiener (and other web comics) wants...

"Tides go in, tides go out. You can't ruin that!"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Science can create unicorns.

[–]keeblur 0 points1 point ago

Damn you facts and evidence, for shame.

If anyone's wondering, it was the year Copernicus published De revolutionibus orbium coelestium exposing his heliocentric theory. Interestingly enough, Martin Luther published On the Jews and Their Lies that same year.

I wish I could say to Copernicus: "Five centuries later, no one believes him!" Unfortunately that's not true. At least I can say he was right (though he already knew).

wait, unicorns aren't real... BLASPHEMY!!!

[–]skeptic11 -3 points-2 points ago

I don't know.

Einstein never favored one point of view over another, at least when dealing with special relativity. You could still model the solar system as revolving around the earth, it would just be ridiculously more complicated to accurately model.

Science hasn't definitively disproved the existence of a god yet. It has done a remarkable job of shredding inaccurate religious writings though.

At least one "unicorn" exists in biology. See Rhinoceros Unicornis. It's just kind of, ugly.

I think we might all be being too hard on science.

[–]carbondate 3 points4 points ago

Disagree. I think rhinos are beautiful creatures, but everybody has different concepts of beauty, I suppose.

[–]skeptic11 0 points1 point ago

Disagree. I think rhinos are beautiful creatures

Ugly was likely the wrong word. My feelings on their aesthetic qualities is rather neutral.

I was looking for something along the lines of "it just isn't what your hoping for." I didn't really accomplish that.

[–]Minimalphilia -1 points0 points ago

DON'T YOU DARE TELLING ME THAT UNICORNS DON'T EXIST!!!

[–]ElBenito 0 points1 point ago

You accidentally a word there.
