Got my christian friend addicted to reddit (i.imgur.com)

[–]Halcyon_Toast 67 points68 points69 points 6 months ago
Excellent.
[–]studmuffffffin 24 points25 points26 points 6 months ago
I'll give him 3 months, unless he finds r/christianity.
[–]efrique 19 points20 points21 points 6 months ago
Then either 2 months or a really long time.
[–]Dalzeil 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
I came expecting there to be bets placed on time.
I was not disappointed.
[–]WORLDS_LARGEST_ANUS 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
I'll give him 3 months, until he finds r/christianity.
[–]runswithpaper 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Sounds about right, three months is about what it took me from initial discovery of reddit and being a southern baptist to realizing I was an Atheist.
[–]iBlameBlue 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I went to verify its existence.
[–]HectorAnonymous 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
What have you done! You monster!
[–]Missfawkes 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
my thoughts exactly!
[–]sweetdaddy 53 points54 points55 points 6 months ago
Im a christian and quite addicted to reddit. Faith is still strong :)
[–]vita_man 35 points36 points37 points 6 months ago
As long as you don't try to force your faith upon others, I'm fine with this.
[–]BeastWriter 40 points41 points42 points 6 months ago
So those front-page posts about atheists on "conversion crusades"...
?
[–]vita_man 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
...are just people who are stating their observations and happen to be upvoted to the front page. Still not forcing their beliefs on anyone.
[–]Immynimmy 12 points13 points14 points 6 months ago
I'm not a Christian, but I have never seen a post in /r/Christianity with a screenshot of facebook mocking atheists or even arguing with atheists to any degree.
[–]fermatafantastique 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
But if you spend 5 min on r/atheism, you'll see plenty of Christians arguing with and mocking atheists on Facebook. It goes both ways, we just have facts, so it makes it more fun.
[–]Immynimmy 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Yeah, but the atheists are always the transgressors. Plus, what satisfaction do you get out of mocking someone's personal beliefs? Is it supposed to be cool to be a dick to someone?
[–]fermatafantastique 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
I've never once mocked anyone's faith to their face in my life. Mostly because I was raised among rational, intelligent people, even the religious ones. Yet I live in a country that makes many of it's laws based on the (IMO) psychotic belief in a big scary sky man. So I come to /r/atheism to read funny anecdotes or encounters posted by people with more direct contact to this huge demographic.
I would also point out that it's your opinion that atheists are always the transgressors. On the contrary, my experience has been that the religious people are usually posting the more inflammatory views or beliefs, with atheists countering with science and unbiased beliefs. If we seem extreme, it's because we are arguing for human rights, a factually-based understanding of the world, and an end to religious bickering over which sky man is right (again, atheism is not a religion. That's hard for many theists to understand, but for the most part, we don't have "beliefs" we have facts, and our views of the universe are constantly subject to change).
[–]hegemon_of_the_mind 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Grown men shouldn't need fairy tales.
[–]Raylour 20 points21 points22 points 6 months ago
I've also never seen an atheists threaten to kill a christian over different beliefs.
To be honest I can understand why Christians would be upset that this stuff was posted on /r/atheism. I wish that it wasn't a default reddit so that we could say what we want or, in the case of those gentlemen in the back, circle jerk without shoving our beliefs down other peoples throats. This should be a place where we can say whatever the fuck we want that relates to atheism but since it is on the front page it seems like we are shoving shit down everyone's throat. /r/christianity is not on the front page and I would not like to see it on the front page but I imagine that you guys feel the same way about /r/atheism. I am not ashamed to be atheist but I hate the rep this subreddit gets since it became a front page subreddit.
[–]Smurfie90 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
Christian here, the r/atheism posts don't really bother me, I find most of them pretty hilarious actually. I don't have a problem with it being a default because it takes a grand total of about 2 clicks to remove it if you don't want it :)
[–]c0pypastry 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Get Reddit Enhancement Suite and you can hide things in one click!
[–]Smurfie90 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
really? I be new to the internet and do not know these things :s (not sarcasm)

[–]passwordisBLU 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Nobody is forcing or pressuring you to read anything from /r/atheism or reddit itself.
[–]passwordisBLU 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
What don't you understand about what I said?
[–]Archaneus 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
Because two plus two does in fact equal four. It does not in fact equal bananas as theists claim(metaphorically).
[–]masters1125 -2 points-1 points0 points 6 months ago
Wat.
BANANAS MAN.
[–]Raylour -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 months ago
It is fine as long as it is contained to /r/atheism. It is reasonable for /r/atheism to shove its own religion down each others throat cause we are all atheist and no one cares. The fact that it gets on the front page sucks. The same problem could happen with /r/christianity if it was made a default subreddit. I think that was a mistake on the reddit admins part, to make /r/atheism a default. /r/all can't be controlled and if you don't like that /r/atheism is there then, not trying to offend anyone, you are shit out of luck unfortunately. I do not blame /r/atheism or the reddit admins for this.
Atheism is not a religion, and not a belief. It is simply the facts of science. Saying a man in the sky created you and you go to hell for not worshipping him is cramming your beliefs down others' throats. Presenting facts of science, even in a tongue-in-cheek way, is not. You wouldn't accuse algebra teachers of "shoving their beliefs down our throats." Well, I don't know, maybe some Christians would...
[–]Raylour 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
See the thing is at this point there is a large enough group of people that say some parts of science are not fact. While you may feel they are likely wrong, obviously they don't. Say atheism is correct and you have seemingly undeniable proof that their is no god. Some Christians would still not believe you because, simply, ignorance is bliss. And yes you showing evidence of why they are wrong to them will seem to them like you are trying to destroy their happiness because that is what religion is to them. Not everyone is accepting of the likely possibility that we will just cease to exist after we die and frankly I don't blame them.
[–]Herpinderpitee 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
The fact that people enjoy the content enough to place it on the front page sucks? Do you hate the reddit voting system in general, or just the fact that it sometimes exposes you to other viewpoints that make you uncomfortable?
[–]simbora 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I think theres a difference between exposing alternate viewpoints and whats going on in most belief based threads. There's generally no civil line of discussion, and instead turns into a circlejerk of like minded people, and badgering those who aren't of that school of thought.
[–]Raylour 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
No it is not that people enjoy it enough to put it on the front page. It is that it is on the front page by default. When you first join reddit you will notice that a select few subreddits are on the front page. This was done by popularity in most cases. Though I feel that in the case of only putting /r/atheism on the front page it has caused a lot of reddit to be very one sided. Maybe a religious discussion subreddit would be better. Even though atheism isn't technically a religion it would definitely still fall into religious discussion just like on social networking it falls into religious views. Alternative view points do not make me uncomfortable. In fact hearing alternative view points is the only way to fully understand an issue. Look at it this way, an athiest would probably feel the same way if /r/christianity was a default subreddit but /r/athiesm wasn't.
As for /r/all, that is all based on what is most popular on reddit as a whole. I should clarify what I was saying early. I do not think /r/atheism should be a default subreddit due to it contributing to the already very biased hivemind of reddit. If an /r/atheism post makes it to the front of /r/all then if people don't like it they are shit out of luck because that is how reddit is meant to work. I think voting is perfect on what reaches the top of the subreddit and /r/all. I love voting. I do not like /r/atheism on the front page by default.
I feel like I'm going in loops with my words but I hope I made myself clear.
[–]Immynimmy -7 points-6 points-5 points 6 months ago
No true Scottsman...
I agree with this sentiment, but, I mean, people (in general, not just Christians) are appalled by this sub because it's not that you're "shoving your beliefs down other's throats" per say, but that the majority of all stuff in this sub is pictures of atheists with quotes (often times misquoted at that) or facebook screenshots of pointless attacking of people on facebook. And I've never seen a Christian on facebook start an attack with an Atheist...the Atheist seems to always be the transgressor
[–]ModRod 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
That's not a "no true Scotsman" fallacy. If you had replied with, "Well, no true Christian would ever do such a thing," that would be a fallacy.
[–]Immynimmy 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Yeah, that's what I meant to say. According to the bible I'm, pretty certain it says you should threaten people with death.
[–]ModRod 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Sorry, I'm unclear as to what you're trying to say here.
[–]Raylour 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago*
Edit: Messed up the response to this due to my misunderstanding of what you meant. Yes you are right, no one that follows the bible word for word would ever do this but most Christians do not follow the bible word for word.
<The rest of your post>
We have had one family in our neighbor that was strongly religious and probably the only real religious family around here that was intolerant to someone I knew. They added my parents on facebook, my mom is catholic and my step-dad is atheist. He is usually on the internet like I am browsing random stuff where he found an article he liked. He posted it on his wall and the wife in this family responded with a rude comment. Now my step-dad is the type that normally would just tell them to fuck off because he doesn't like to deal with shit from people. My mom liked this family though so he tried to make things right and just said he did not believe what they did in a polite way, mostly just to please my mom but still he was polite, and they posted one more rude response, deleted my mom and him from facebook and that was it. Now I'm not saying don't don't do this because we do, a lot. I don't agree with it and I myself just stay quiet on facebook and use it for IM. The point is that it comes from both sides. And I understand you said you have never seen this happen on facebook but I just thought I would share anyway so now you can say you have at least heard of a story. As for the misquoting, we do that about as much as the Christians on facebook do. So we are no better in that regard but also no worse.
Also one last comment from a trend I have noticed. It seem European theists and atheists are both tolerant and don't care what each other believe. As an American I honestly think that we have some notion that if someone doesn't believe what we do that they are automatically wrong and need to be made straight and conform to the ideas we have. I like to think I am not like this and I hope if I push something on someone in any statement that they call me on it.
[–]mickeyc 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
It's really easy to mock somebody for saying or doing something irrational. It's pretty difficult to successfully mock somebody for saying something rational.
Just saying.
[–]Immynimmy -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 months ago
Wait, so you just basically said that /r/atheism does it because they think they're right and Christians are crazy? How does that justify mocking people online?!
That statment makes /r/Christianity look like nice people (which I'm sure a lot are) and /r/atheism look like a bunch of vindictive trolls that like to mock people online.
EDIT: Nevermind, I misread your comment. But still the theory stands.
[–]Vimsefreet 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Religion ruins many of our lives and are obstacles for our freedom in many places. Christians get to vent their frustrations on national television, over the war on christianity. Atheists have a subreddit, so go figure. Religion is a jerk in real life, atheism is a jerk online.
[–]mickeyc 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Do you agree or disagree with my statement?
"It's really easy to mock somebody for saying or doing something irrational. It's pretty difficult to successfully mock somebody for saying something rational."
Pertaining to what? Atheism/theism or just in general?
I mean, obviously I'm not gonna, say, mock someone for saying that they like Macs or mock someone for saying that their name has 5 letters in it.
In general. The original comment. The one I then repeated but surrounded in quotation marks. Do you agree with it or not?
The point I am trying to make is that maybe this is the explanation for why the mocking is one sided? If Atheists were being irrational and Christians rational, maybe the mocking would be going the other way? That sounds reasonable to me...
[–]wayndom 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
The folks on r/Christianity are nice people. I go there frequently. But people like Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Pat Robertson, etc., etc., etc., are NOT nice people, and if they had their way, this country would be a theocracy, as fucked-up as Iran, just with a different holy book.
They are the people I mock, and they deserve to be mocked, at the very least.
[–]wayndom 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
That's because those guys have no sense of humor.
[–]kingssman -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
never have I seen someone so intelligent fight so hard against something he doesn't believe exists--ghandi
It's not worth the effort. the more an atheist fights, the more they just become anti-theist. If probed enough, you can almost find some who claim to be atheist but are really just anti-Christian. like the atheist who says he has a soul.
[–]wadetype 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Are they not as free to state their beliefs as those who believe that anyone who doesn't believe in the same mythological figure I choose to worship will go to spend an eternity in a flaming pit of torture?
[–]BeastWriter 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
yes, but it's hypocrisy-we Christians believe that we're saving you from the pit of fire when we "force our faith on others." Atheists on this website post stories about "trying to convert people" and other such bravery and don't see the hypocrisy in telling others not to do it. Just because Reddit is ruled via tyranny of the masses doesn't mean that a person can't express a unpopular view
And before we go on, I've been here before and I don't have time for this tonight. I have a test tomorrow, it's quantum mechanics, and I've barely studied. If you still really want to get into it, PM me in 24 hours
It's not hypocrisy. Literally.
Hypocrisy would be probably be defined as silently being part of the long-ruling tyrant masses and then complaining when a different group of people, who you claim to be tyrants, disagree with your opinion.
[–]kingssman -4 points-3 points-2 points 6 months ago
Santa Clause isn't real. nobody should believe in Santa. Santa is a judgmental all knowing asshole who only gives presents to children who behave. We must inform the world about the dangers of believing Santa and remove Santa from our schools and community.
we mustn't indoctrinate our children with belief in Santa Clause.
[–]Smurfie90 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
WHAT! but where do my presents come from?
[–]NibblyPig 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
I know I'll get downvoted for this, but even nice people who have faith are essentially carriers that perpetuate it, and sooner or later someone will twist it into hate.
[–]vita_man 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Unfortunately, you are right. I personally just want everyone to be happy. If I were president, I would decree that as long as you are not hurting someone else, you can do whatever the fuck you want.
[–]NibblyPig 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
I think you may have misunderstood me. I don't think being religious classes as something that doesn't hurt other people. Even if you're the kindest, nicest religious person in the whole world, you're still teaching from a book filled with hate, and although you may have chosen to ignore the parts that bash homosexuals and condone violence to women and condemn non-believers to hell, friends, children, and people you expose to your faith may (and do) decide to embrace those sections.
When you see a religious extremist, his or her parents weren't always religious extremists.
I see religious people as carriers of a disease. It doesn't always manifest itself with them, but they'll pass it on. I guess this connects with the whole meme thing.
[–]vita_man 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
At any rate. I agree with you. The book you are referring to is far outdated and we need to come up with a new book that speaks of only peace, morality and equality.
[–]TheycallmeHollow 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
and like wise too you my brother.
edit- Catholic
[–]matics 5 points6 points7 points 6 months ago
And browsing r/atheism?
SO BRAVE.
[–]aceist 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Next thing you know, his friend will be voting Ron Paul 2012.
[–]kingssman 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
once molded, nothing should shake you. means that your mind is no longer gullible to every random thing that comes along, but that you began to question everything, including things you agree with.
for me, belief in a soul and higher power is part of human evolution. It what separates me from animal. I even invented my own religion for myself that I don't share with anyone. How can I become atheist to my own creation? especially if I'm merely following my natural human instincts of spiritual awareness.
[–]hegemon_of_the_mind 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
my natural human instincts of self-delusion.

[–]myfajahas400children 22 points23 points24 points 6 months ago
As a christian on Reddit, I have to say it might drive him even further away from atheism.
[–]Tulsakaleb -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
Yeah exactly.
[–]Immynimmy 22 points23 points24 points 6 months ago
So...?
You're hoping he's gonna come across facebook screenshots and Carl Sagan quotes and become an atheist? Or that he'll get disrespected for his beliefs in /r/atheism?
[–]tuck5649 18 points19 points20 points 6 months ago*
For some of us in America, the internet is the first and only place we're exposed to information contrary to Christian doctrine. It's not an immediate conversion, but looking at your religion from the other side of the fence for the first time can change you.
Edit: spelling
[–]PA55W0RD 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
The first time you "fist time" is a life changing experience.
[–]tuck5649 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
My first fist time is a completely different story. I didn't mean to slip that in there.
[–]PA55W0RD 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
You never mean to slip it in... if you know what I mean
[–]ThirdDegreeRape 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
I live in Georgia and I can confirm this. Christianity as an idea is treated with the same confidence from the general public as gravity. It's just obviously true, and requires no more thought (yes I know gravity is much more complicated than this, but I couldn't think of a better example). Most of us have thought about religion a lot because we were pushed to by somebody that we met or something that we read. For a lot of people, that something is the internet.
[–]masters1125 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Why would this be the first time you have ever had to critically think about your faith? Are you Amish?
Read books.
[–]Immynimmy -4 points-3 points-2 points 6 months ago
I've never been harassed with any type of Christian doctrine. And even if I was, I'm not gonna paint a religion with a broad brush because of a few people.
[–]TryingYourLuck 7 points8 points9 points 6 months ago
I'm thinking more of the "conversion" process. At least that's what happened to me. Damn you reddit. I miss my deities.
[–]PhineasNFerbot -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
Have we been brainwashed by reddit or did we come to these conclusions regarding our deities on our own?
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
Its pop atheism. For some reason you think its 'cool' and 'hip'.
[–]PhineasNFerbot 3 points4 points5 points 6 months ago
While online peer pressure was a contributing factor, I feel as if Reddit did genuinely help the seeds of doubt that had been sown in me to grow.
[–][deleted] -10 points-9 points-8 points 6 months ago
While online peer pressure was a contributing factor.
Thats all I needed to hear. I have just branded you a dickhead. Sorry man.
[–]Crailek 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
The same person claiming the only reason anyone is an atheist is because it is 'cool' and 'hip' thinking they have the upper ground to be branding other people dickheads? Funny.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
The same person claiming the only reason anyone is an atheist is because it is 'cool' and 'hip'
Thankyou for the verification. That is what I said.
thinking they have the upper ground to be branding other people dickheads?
If I do not have the freedom to make my own judgements then what do I have?
I think getting your ideological system via peer pressure is a bit silly. There. I said it.
[–]Crailek 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I think getting your ideological system via peer pressure is a bit silly
Isn't that how most of religion is/was spread?
Atheists aren't the ones saying "Join us or you burn for all eternity" is all I'm saying.
Absolutly. Yes indeed. Nail. Head.
That is why we are at such an advantage, at our fingertips we have unmeasured amounts of scriptures, you can go from Norse to Buddhist in 0.2 seconds. You can translate the text for yourself in seconds. How cool is that?
Not all religion is about burning for eternity is all I'm saying. Some of it is useful.
[–]TryingYourLuck 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Reddit provided evidence which coincided with my own empirical evidence. I'd rather make a claim on the basis of rationality than speculation.
[–]MadBrosAreMad -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 months ago
Empirical evidence? Please share. Unless it's qualitative and anecdotal. In that case, fuck you.
[–]KatanaMaster 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
I became an atheist when I came to reddit.
he'll discover how to get downvotes by posting something really cool about Christian charity.
[–]TrevorBradley 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I'm happy my Christian friend (Is this like a token thing now?) got addicted to reddit because now she and I have more to talk about.
[–]mattbrvc 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
Dead faith posting!
[–]ILL_Show_Myself_Out 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Is this a play on "dead man walking?"
[–]Scrawly 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Think so. "Dead faith posting on the green mile!" may have been clearer, but it would lacked punch. Honestly, there must be a better joke.
[–]childsd 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
Same thing happened to me - except I'm the Christian. A Christian getting pissed off and offended by athiests on the Internet is just as bad as an athiest getting butthurt by "Christmas" trees. It sucks that so many Christians are ass-backward morons :/

What about Hunger Game Hippos? You put 24 hippos in an arena with an arsenal of weapons and watch as they slaughter eachother.

I finally registered to reddit so I could up vote this. :D
[–]SaintsAngels 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago

"I swear Monty, you are the devil himself!"
"WHOOOOO TOLD YOUUU?"
[–]Late1110 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
IAmA christian, and browsing atheism with it's numerous posts about Bible has made me study and read and interpret it, and as I do so, my faith is growing every minute! Thanks r/atheism!
[–]kentrado 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Hey! that's not the intended result! Go read a book about logic and critical thinking!
[–]Late1110 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Yes, but my critical thinking has not led me to atheism, but closer to Christianity!
[–]kentrado 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Impossible. Critical thinking is not thinking a lot. Critical thinking is a discipline, you can't have my critical thinking as opposed to everybody else's critical thinking.
With critical thinking you evaluate evidence in order to determine whether a claim is true or false. There is no evidence for the existence of God, therefore you can't determine that God exist by using Critical Thinking.
Either you are not using Critical Thinking or you have some evidence about the existence of God, which is highly unlikely.
[–]redkey42 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Critical Thinking... I do not think these words mean what you think they mean...
[–]EvOllj 4 points5 points6 points 6 months ago
the internet will turn you into a very liberal atheist bisexual furry with various other fetishes.
if you are not one, you just are not online for a long enough time yet, or just way too ignorant.
[–]Ganjauser 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
It is quite amazing reflecting on the fact that some of us were raised with the internet. Now it's just a common part of society. Many children will not be able to fully appreciate what it once was, but the internet is still a remarkable tool.
[–]EvOllj 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I never got into playing Starcraft or ANY DoTA-version competetively, because regionally there was no affordable ISP back then.
[–]HappyWulf -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
I prefer LoL, but as a game, not as a sport. I like to try my best, and 'competetively' but not like, for an e-sport thing that people are making it. /r/LeagueofLegends is 50% posts about pro players now. =/
Well... this explains a lot.
[–]HappyWulf 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I'm not bisexual. I'm just gay. But at lease I'm not a FREAK! =D Actually, I'm kinda vanilla. No weird fetishes here!

> faith as strong as ever
This only goes to show that you have learnt nothing. You seem to cling to your irrational beliefs despite all the evidence shown to refute the existence of this fictional character called God (with a capital G).
[–]wayno007 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Actually, I've leared a considerable amount from this subreddit. I've met intellectual folks here who pose interesting questions, and engage in stimulating discussion. I've never thought to overtly proselytise here as I wouldn't want to insult another's held worldview, even if it differs considerably from my own. I've even come to admire the basis for Pastafarianism, although I probably won't bring it up in Sunday School! Occasionally I meet folks like you, but fortunately those enounters are few.

>I've leared a considerable amount from this subreddit
Like what? Can't see any evidence pal.
>I've never thought to overtly proselytise
I Did not mean to "proselytise" but educate? Maybe.
>Occasionally I meet folks like you, but fortunately those enounters are few.
Fortunate? Hardly. If you only seek the company of people who don't care enough to confront you and take issue with your asinine beliefs then it is you who is getting a raw deal out of this experience.
[–]wayno007 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Can't see any evidence pal.
What would you consider evidence?
If you only seek the company of people who don't care enough to confront you and take issue with your asinine beliefs then it is you who are getting a raw deal out of this experience.
I'm all for discussing differences in beliefs, but if the other party isn't willing to show me the same respect as I have for their opinions, then I'd rather move on to someone who is. Generally, if I'm having a discussion with someone who insists on using pejoratives to describe my beliefs, that's someone who is not open minded.
Speaking of proselytising...
I'm new to reddit, but this is something rare- A christian being accepting and open-minded, and an atheist being aggressive and close-minded.
If you only seek the company of people who agree with you, how are you ever going learn anything new? Or have you "learn't" it all?
I do believe there is some merit in the idea of learning from the self deluded and brain washed; at the very least it will help you test your endurance for bullshit.
As for being aggressive, life does that to you when you are drowning in a sea of morons.
I am more than willing to learn from sane and rational people, what I will not do is gladly suffer fools.

Yes, tell me about all this evidence you have against the existence of God.
[–]indian_rationalist 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
There is a ton of evidence floating around refuting every claim ever made in support of establishing God as a real entity. You just need to open your eyes and educate yourself.
[–]burman26 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Why can't he be proud?
This is why I'm starting to hate this subreddit, you get mad for people Forcing their religion down people's throats, but you guys condescend, and belittle anyone who disagrees with you.
Feel bad man
[–]ModRod 2 points3 points4 points 6 months ago
Holy comma splice!
[–]indian_rationalist -1 points0 points1 point 6 months ago
Would you say the same thing if you saw an illiterate fool taking pride in his illiteracy and ignorance? Would you not consider it your moral responsibility to help such a person?

http://www.reddit.com/r/christianity is a thing

If he's your super bestie, offer him 50 dollars to browse the top month of Reddit for an hour. In a week he'll be begging you to keep the fifty and thanking you. If he's your super bestie. Not only are you not spending 50 bucks, you, sir, have been provided with a super bestie test. No need to thank me....Use it well.
I just had a flashback of my first encounters with r/atheism. I feel all gooey inside.
[–]lejason 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Nah, the way I see it it, if Christianity's claims can't handle a little critical thinking then Jesus really is no different than the FSM; it's better to suffer through finding the truth (regardless of its implications) than rest in the false hope of a lie, no? (IAmA Christian addicted to reddit and all for it)
[–]USE_DUCT_TAPE 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
All you need to do now is duct tape him to the chair so he cannot run away.
[–]cpumatt 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Let the converting begin!
Hopefully he's seen the shades-of-gray that most folks find between the extremes of materialism and religious dogma

[–]MrHoman 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Ah I see that reddit is now a luring place for us to convert people? I thought we left moves like this to Christians...
[–]Thizzlebot 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
This is funny and I upvoted but all your friend has to do is click the unsubscribe button and be on his way but he probably won't seeing as most religious people aren't very logical.
[–]StatutoryGrape95 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Only a matter of time now...
Excellent!
[–]Amryxx 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
But judging by my own perception of r/atheism, I don't think your Christian friend would be losing faith anytime soon.
Well, losing faith in God, I mean. His faith in humans might take a huge hit, though.
[–]redkey42 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
Why? Heaps of stuff in r/atheism is about pretty loved up stuff.
Very possible. English is not my native language
[–]Capercaillie 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago
Soon he will be ours. One of us....one of us....one of us....
[–]Tulsakaleb 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago
I'm a christian addicted to reddit, and I spend a lot of time in r/atheism, but I never check out r/Christianity... I'm still devout...

Good for him, it sure will strengthen his faith as he watches how smug and self-absorbed atheists on Reddit are.
[–]vanderbugger -6 points-5 points-4 points 6 months ago
so he's going to encounter a bunch of atheists constantly involved in sniffing each other's anuses and congratulating themselves on the smell? you should warn him.
