Fun Fact: Dynamic Hydroplanning occurs at approximately √Tyre-pressure(PSI)x8.6 (Speed in knots) if 1/10 inch of water exists on the asphalt, and you actually have to reduce speed significantly below this in order for the wheels to regain friction. Hitting the brakes in panic might lead to reverted rubber hydroplanning which can endure at even lower speeds.

I was taught that when you're skidding on ice or hydroplaning you're supposed to turn into the skid briefly (ie away from the road) so that you can get traction on the tires again.

That has got to be one of the scariest things ever to experience on the road. My uncle and his best friend died when they were in their early twenties because their truck hydroplaned on the freeway. Driving in the rain is no joke.

Looks like there is a crash site behind and to the left of the police car, because cars going the other way keep slowing down. Truck driver got distracted and saw that crash site too late, then locked his wheels up.

I was on the receiving end of that situation once. It was snow, not rain, but the end result was the same. Truck was totalled. If I had had a passenger they would have died.

Amazingly, despite missing like half the car (the bed of the truck was more or less ripped in half, door was missing, front end smashed in) the truck didn't even TURN OFF, and continued to work. I drove it to the shop.

I'm kind of paranoid about driving in snow, now. :-/

Why has no one brought up that this is obviously sped up? If you watch the video posted by ifoudnthevideo at the top you can see the truck was moving much slower and so they had enough time to recognize and run easily. But when watching this gif its sped up to create more fear and anxiety aka wtf.
