To be clear, it is a photoshoped picture I found on tumbler and made into a wallpaper ... despite its being fake I thought it was pretty cool ... this is where I found the original

Some context:

Love this image created by Richard Silvera who composed a photo taken by him while flying on a commercial plane, and a shuttle photo from NASA. Using Photoshop & Lightroom, the man put the two images together, creating this spectacular effect. Very creative. Well done.

my intuition says that clouds wouldn't delay a shuttle launch, but i'm no nasa scientist so what the fuck do i know.

it's plausible that a plane could take that shot from that distance.

but the fact that i, a person with very limited photoshop skills (i only used briefly in my 6th-8th grade technology class), feel confident i could recreate this photo says a lot.

I'm sure the space shuttle would generate some type of bow shock that would prevent this kind of picture from being taken.

My first thought was it was on the ground in low lying fog. Then I thought it was awfully funny looking fog and shouldn't there be some kind of launch tower and maybe it's only photoshopped but who cares it's awesome I'm using it now off to bed goodnight!

Regardless of whether or not the launch into clouds, I couldn't believe they would let some kind of vehicle (plane or helicopter) nearly this close to a launch.. Eh, that was the red flag for me..

Any information about this picture? Was this during a very foggy rollout to the pad, or did some phenomenally lucky person snap a picture after launch but before the pitch maneuver?

There's no way for that kind of fog to be that low, not to mention you'd see the pad.

Want to say with 95% certainty that it's just a nice shop of the shuttle either being rolled out onto the pad or at the pad, put on top of the background. Even if it was before the pitch maneuver, I highly doubt it would look perfectly straight.

It's a combination of a foggy day on the launch pad and a picture of a cloudy day. I don't have a source at the moment but I do remember seeing both versions pre-photoshop somewhere on reddit.
