At the ending:
A true story from Associated Press
If reading rage comics has taught me anything, is that the words "true story" cannot be trusted.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
How can I trust you? You didn't even say it was a true story.
[–]axel404 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago
[PROOF]
[–]NULLACCOUNT 34 points35 points36 points 7 months ago
Even though it is fake it is still a decent story.
[–]wilkil 7 points8 points9 points 7 months ago
Yea. I at least enjoyed reading it although it seemed a little too bizarre.
[–]CookieTard -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago
Yup, the chances of this actually happening are near impossible.
[–]IIdsandsII 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago
So you're saying there's a wang.

Wow I'm too dumb for reddit...
[–]bobbybusche 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
I took a philosophy class where the professor used it as an example. We had a great argumentative discussion over it.
[–]cannontrodder 3 points4 points5 points 7 months ago
Don't be sorry! Plus, I wanted to read it anyway and am glad that it is on that site in text rather than some shitty karma-whoring image.

[–]iNeedMyKingButterfly 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago
Mentioning this is why I came here. A very good movie it was.

Came here to mention this film. It was a good one.
[–]hsanhgiel 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
yup. the intro to magnolia is the best part of the movie, though the entire thing rules
[–]gutter_is_a_tool 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
"There are stories of coincidence and chance, and intersections and strange things told, and which is which and who only knows? And we generally say, "Well, if that was in a movie, I wouldn't believe it." Someone's so-and-so met someone else's so-and-so and so on. And it is in the humble opinion of this narrator that strange things happen all the time."
[–]mrsexycow 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
yup except i think that in the movie it's the mother who actually fires the gun (even though it is still the father who often threatens), and I think she actually does get charged with the murder
[–]thewestwind 11 points12 points13 points 7 months ago
Nothing has ever not happened as much as this case. ಠ_ಠ
[–]uclaw44 7 points8 points9 points 7 months ago
Legal implications: Although the shooter may have the thought the gun unloaded, threatening another with a firearm is at the very least negligent enough to warrant negligent homicide, and depending on the jurisdiction enough a crime to be a felony. If the threat is felony, that charge could be upped to felony-murder despite the fact the victim was in the process committing suicide.
[–]Osiris32 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago
It would be a felony, as it would construe domestice violence with a weapon, which under most state laws is a class C felony.
We had this case presented to us as a exercise in my Criminal Law classes. Most people went for the circular bit, but those of us who had paid attention stopped with the elderly man and immediately charged him with DV, Menacing, and Discharging a Firearm within City Limits. The whole thing is just a mental exercise.
[–]uclaw44 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
Indeed. In all seriousness, everyone should make sure they avoid these smaller felonies because if a horrible unintended accident accident happens in the process you could go away for life.
[–]AveSharia 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
In addition, the fact that the victim was attempting to commit suicide is entirely irrelevant to the murder charge.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 months ago
This is question 1 on your prototypical 1L criminal law exam.
[–]vfho 3 points4 points5 points 7 months ago
"further investigation revealed that the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus"
It took further investigation to reveal this?
This story reeks of BS.

There are two men, Mr. Black and Mr. White, who both (independently) want to kill a third man, let's call him Mr. Green. The three men go hiking in the desert. One night, while they are sleeping in their tents, Mr. Black sneaks into Mr. Green's tent and puts poison in Mr. Green's canteen, assuming that Mr. Green will drink the poison the next day and die. Later that night, Mr. White sneaks into Mr. Green's tent, and empties the canteen, assuming that Mr. Green will die of thirst. The next day, Mr. Green dies of thirst.
Who is guilty of his murder? It can't be Mr. Black. He attempted to poison Mr. Green and Mr. Green died of thirst. But it can't be Mr. White. All he did was remove the poison from Mr. Green's canteen.
[–]Ahuva 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago
Hey Man, it's a double rainbow! What does it MEAN?
[–]Outofmany 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
TL;DR somebody tried to commit suicide and succeeded.

We need to take away all the guns, that'll stop these untrue stories from being spread around the internet!
[–]it_wasnt_me_ 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago
this would be a phenomenal b grade movie.
This story was told in the movie Magnolia.

tl;dr: someone jumped off a building and died on the way to the ground cuz he got shot
[–]stokleplinger 2 points3 points4 points 7 months ago
Sweet jesus, a tl; dr on one, perfectly formatted page from a magazine? This is why we can't have nice things, people!
[–]vfho -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago
It's a completely fabricated story, but you go ahead and pat yourself on the back for reading the whole thing.
[–]stokleplinger -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago
the whole thing.
.... it was 8 paragraphs, and, according to snopes was created as an anecdotal (do you need a tl;dr for that word?) example of how minute (that means small and is not a measure of time) details can change the investigation and impact the conclusions. Fake or not it was both funny and informative.
How does one function in the world (or on the internet) if they're unwilling to read a single page of magazine text???
A better question would be, how does your middle school feel about you being on reddit during class?
We function by not spending time reading fake stories like you do. Any other questions? :)
[–]Cephelopodia 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago
"But it did happen..."
[–]Maynguene_banana 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago
I'd still call it reckless homicide, on the part of the dad
[–]druidfitz83 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago
Watch the movie " Magnolia." They have this full 'urban-legend" portrayed in the film
[–]ienginbeer 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago

Shotgun was shoot by old man who thought it was unloaded, missed his wife and hit falling guy.
Falling guy was their son who loaded the gun weeks before to make his father killing his mother.
Suicide declared. Case closed.
Read it, it is worth it - and fake.
