Finding a job is easy. Finding a job you want or that pays what you think you deserve is a different story.

[–]Amerikai 34 points35 points ago

and people these days think they're above manual labor or shit jobs.

[–]DVDA_allday 18 points19 points ago

exactly! the thing is if you have manual labor or shit jobs on resume while searching for a real job...you are more likely to be hired, because you show a willingness to work. LPT

[–]PirateMud 6 points7 points ago

It tickles me when people say "I'll shovel shit for a tenner" and then they complain of having no job. There is more shit than you can quantify! Get a fucking shovel!

[–]ferox9 2 points3 points ago

I would know; my mom is a professional pooper scooper.

[–]PirateMud 2 points3 points ago

It's something like that. My mum spent 6 weeks of her life on unemployment benefits. She's managed hippie alternative-health places (not homeopathy, nothing 'medicinal' actually), cleaned warehouses, delivered Meals on Wheels, cooked at a Chinese restaurant, cleaned public toilets for the 2 weeks around Christmas and New Year's, cleaned houses, farmed, ran a sweet shop, ran a toy shop... basically, she hates the idea of her being a scrounger (her words) so if she lost a job (like, she quit the warehouse cleaning job because the manager insulted my stepdad, who was also working there at the time) she went and just got another one basically. If you're determined enough you can get a job, you just need to accept it might be cleaning toilets in literally the shittest point of the year.

Oh, other things she did: she packed cabbages on a production line. Literally so mind numbingly dull that she would ration out the times she would look at the clock. "Another 50 cabbages and I'll look at it" kind of stuff. And she was a florist and also worked for a flower packing company at some point.

[–]arwcrst42 4 points5 points ago

People seam to be only interested in that dream job without even considering the path needed to be taken to get them there.

[–]SilentSquirrel 6 points7 points ago

But... but... I deserve a 6 figured cushy job directly out of college!

[–]drockers 1 point2 points ago

more than anything having shit jobs between good jobs on your resume instead of a big break of unemployment shows that you'd rather work than simply be paid.

[–]Cameron94 0 points1 point ago

This is very much true. I'll be happy cleaning toilets for now, as long as it gets me something in my pocket and pays for things outside of studying. The only trouble is, I can only commit to certain time requirements, and that's why I'm finding it hard to find something..

[–]thecoffee 3 points4 points ago

Well that's what we are taught in school:

If we work hard, study and be good, we will not end up as some loser who flips hamburgers.

So we study hard, go into debt, delay our departure into the adult world for four years and what are we rewarded with?

People with jobs looking down on us for being too good to flip burgers.

I've flipped burgers and done manual labor for years, and it shows diddely about your character when EVERYONE has no choice but to take those jobs. Getting a dream Jobs take years of preparation, searching and luck.

Shit jobs are something you HAVE do because society lied to you. They are not something you OWE society for wanting a career.

[–]lololdl 2 points3 points ago

No I just expect to be paid a living wage.

[–]Amerikai 3 points4 points ago

yea thats an issue, but everybody wants a tv, internet, car, and spending cash.

[–]Katie1230 0 points1 point ago

Not all manual labor jobs are shitty though.

[–]MechaToast 2 points3 points ago

I can't get those kinds of jobs because refugees are hired to do the same thing I would for below minimum wage.

[–]Namboto 0 points1 point ago

That's illegal you know.

[–]MechaToast 2 points3 points ago

So? Doesn't mean it's not real.

[–]jjcoola 4 points5 points ago

Yea this always make me laugh when people say there are no jobs.. no you don't want to be a laborer / food service

[–]BoonTobias 2 points3 points ago

I would be in the food business if niggaz tipped

-louis ck

[–]MechaToast 2 points3 points ago

Have you tried to get a job in the food service industry lately? ಠ_ಠ

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points ago

the people who make the job cannons are always hiring. It's just hard labor that no one wants to do.

[–]MagnifloriousPhule 27 points28 points ago

[–]Doctor_Kitten 12 points13 points ago

Video loads faster than the gif.

[–]WezVC 8 points9 points ago

I feel like a reaction gif should be able to be used in more than one very specific situation.

[–]play3393 5 points6 points ago

Exactly. I completely agree. This sub had become filled with uncreative people simply saying "When..." and then simply describing what happens in the gif. It's not funny, because it's not original...no thought went into it at all.

[–]themightypierre 98 points99 points ago

really ? Again with this ?

[–]kdar 56 points57 points ago

As a person who is in need of a job, this gif gets me every time. Although I have an interview today. Wish me luck!

[–]shapsai42 22 points23 points ago

Good luck!!!

[–]Gawaintheovensafetin 10 points11 points ago

Have this bobble-head, it may be useful :)

There's only one way to give 110%.

effects +1 Luck permanently

[–]SpermWhale 5 points6 points ago

What are you applying for?

[–]kdar 5 points6 points ago

Package/graphic design for a store that sells brain teaser/puzzle games. The interview went really well.

[–]MechaToast 0 points1 point ago

I read that as taser puzzle games.

[–]kdar 2 points3 points ago

It's shocking if you lose.

[–]MechaToast 2 points3 points ago

The game so fun it's electrifying?

[–]cresteh 2 points3 points ago

You'd better get that motherfucking job you amazingly talented person.

[–]Punkwasher 1 point2 points ago

Upvote for hopeful employment!

[–]kdar 1 point2 points ago

Not that anyone is gonna see this, but... I GOT IT!

[–]mr-peabody 2 points3 points ago

He doesn't have a job... he's got a lot of time on his hands to repost.

[–]sirtimid[S] 1 point2 points ago

If you look at a comment below that got downvoted to hell I stated that I am employed but just enjoy the gif. reactiongifs along with EVERY other subreddit doesn't have to be 100% true.

[–]C0mmun1ty 1 point2 points ago

I've seen it posted like 3 times and I still laugh.

[–]a-dark-passenger -3 points-2 points ago

false. this has been posted an infinite number of times, but with countable cardinality. Aleph0 times.

[–]Maraboduus 1 point2 points ago

It's worse that this junk lands on the frontpage all the time.

[–]Zaphod1620 -1 points0 points ago

Fact: I downvote anyone who says anything resembling "repost!"

damn, came here to impart some Scottish slang wisdom, but someone's already taken that jobbie

[–]jimsaysdoitthisway 0 points1 point ago

I've read too much Irvine Welsh.

[–]EffYourCouch 3 points4 points ago

This is the first time i've seen it on here. maybe everyone bitching needs a life and get off reddit every now and again.

[–]weezyjefferson 5 points6 points ago

Whenever someone tells me to get a job, I respond by quoting nonsense from a television show. I am unemployable.

[–]fondots 12 points13 points ago

You know, i realize it's hard to get a good job, the economy still is pretty fucked up and all, but just getting a job isn't actually too hard. the problem is american are pretentious assholes who think we're above mopping floors and waiting tables. if you quit pussy-footing around looking for the right job and settle for any job, i can almost guarantee you'll be working within a week or 2. just walk down the main street of your town and ask in every store and business if they're hiring for any position at all. If nothing turns up, then the next day walk down the main street of the next town over. no, you're probably not gonna get your dream job as a programmer or journalist or whatever you want to do, and you'll probably end up with some menial labor, dead-end job like being a janitor or busing tables at a shitty diner, but it's a job. i'm currently employed as a pizza delivery guy. is it below me? yes. i got a degree in what is supposedly an in-demand field, i'm an eagle scout, i'm a polite, well-dressed young man that employers should be beating down my door to hire, but that wasn't happening so i had to lower my standards. now i'm not making a ton of money, and i obviously don't have a lot of room for advancement, but it's enough for me to pay my bills until i can find something else, and i will find something else.

tl;dr lower your standards and go work at mcdonalds or something until you find something better

[–]deadlyfalcon89 4 points5 points ago

lower your standards and go work at mcdonalds or something until you find something better

I have friends who applied at every fast food joint in a 20 mile radius, none of whom were hiring. If nobody's hiring, there aren't any jobs to be had.

Get off your high horse and get some perspective.

[–]fondots 9 points10 points ago

Say what you will, but i maintain that if your friends can't find a job, they're not trying hard enough. Somewhere within those 20 miles, there is a job for them. Some are advertised, some you need to physically walk in and ask about specifically, some you'll find on craigslists, and some you have to track down yourself. Worst case scenario, ask your neighbors for odd jobs and take out an ad in the local papers or on craigslist listing skills you have and indicating that you're willing to do general labor and odd jobs, and someone will take you up on that offer. Weeding someones garden may only earn you a few bucks, but if you do a good job, they'll mention it to friends, and they may hire you to paint their shed or walk their dog. Now doing stuff like that will make shit money, but if you do enough you can make just enough to get by, and if you keep it up eventually you can end up with a real job offer somewhere. it's all about networking. The place i work now wasn't hiring when i looked either, so i ended up doing odd jobs for people around my town over the summer and found myself helping to clean out my current boss' garage, i left a good impression on him so he asked if i'd like his son's job when he left for college in a few weeks. Now it may not always work out so smoothly, but if you keep it up, and ask around, the jobs are there, you just have to know how to find them.

[–]Katie1230 0 points1 point ago

I actually got the job I have now from just calling the place. I didn't know that they were hiring. The website just said call to schedule an interview if you are interested. Though I may be a bad example because it was the 2nd place I interviewed and it is in my field (just graduated too), I'm a licensed massage therapist. I realize that I am incredibly lucky though, because I love where I work. The money is not super steady, but it will get better as I build a client base.

[–]iredditsolongago 0 points1 point ago

Did your 'friends' walk in to each fast food place in a group and all ask for applications together? Why don't you leave your own pity party and listen to fondots.

[–]deadlyfalcon89 5 points6 points ago

Negative. These are hard working, smart, college educated people, their only problem is that they are trying to support their families in a small town in the Midwestern heartland. There are, in fact, places in this country where there are no jobs.

Who said anything about a pity party? I'm quite happily employed in my chosen industry, I just have a wide variety of contacts in situations that aren't quite as rosy as mine.

So job hunting isn't going so well huh? Need any help?

[–]RainbowInTheTrunk 2 points3 points ago

I need help, if you're still offering.

[–]efg1342 1 point2 points ago

indeed.com ?

[–]Fineus 1 point2 points ago

What kind of help would you like? I should preface by saying I'm a UK based IT recruiter so my focus is somewhat limited to that arena but if you want any general tips then maybe I can spout ideas you've not heard yet?

[–]RainbowInTheTrunk 0 points1 point ago

Thats the area im trying to get in to. I worked side by side with the IT guy for a few months before losing my job. I don't have a lot of experience in IT. My co workers would come to me to set up or fix they're electronics. maybe if you have some ideas how I can get in to a entry level position or how should I set up my resume so it won't get over looked. Idk if that helps.

[–]Fineus 0 points1 point ago

No problem! Well to start with - saying you want to work in IT is a very broad thing. Do you want to be a developer? Web designer? Database analyst? Support? Network engineer?

From what you've said it looks like you have some good grounding experience in hardware support but unfortunately saying "my co workers would come to me" is akin to "I learnt C++ programming from a book I brought online, and some online classes". You might know it - but there's no way to gauge what standard you know it to.

Do you have any academic qualifications? What kind of work are you looking to go into? Those are probably the crucial deciding factors on what to do next. The second one especially so - but without nailing that, it's hard to say what the next best step is.

[–]RainbowInTheTrunk 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the info. I appreciate that you're taking time out of your day to give me a helping hand.

I would like to get in to something entry level/help desk due to my lack of experience. Im still in school trying to get my associates degree in computer information systems. I still haven't made a clear decision as I'm just beginning with the degree.

[–]Fineus 1 point2 points ago

No problem.. it's something I do almost all day, every day, so helping a fellow Redditor out is no problem at all :)

With regards to help desk / entry level... try and get some experience helping to fix computers / software. Maybe there's a shop somewhere in your area that provides this service? See if you can get some summer work or similar that lets you get that hands on professional experience.

If it's help desk you're doing, there are a couple of stories I have here that may be useful:

1) One of my friends at Uni in the UK took a job as a help desk assistant with his university doing part time helpdesk stuff - they took him on from his IT knowledge and the degree he was doing (Computer Science I think..). That was over 4 years ago now and to the best of my knowledge, he's still there. Therefore the mildest experience can get you started if you look in the right places.

2) An old housemate of mine used to work in retail sales (a UK based store called Curries) selling PCs, equipment etc. He was pretty capable with basic PC stuff and had done a degree in Computer Games technology which he didn't do brilliantly in, but there we go. Anyway - this general background in IT landed him a job doing tech support for an Internet Provider based company. He didn't have years of tech support experience - but he had enough savvy and background knowledge to land the job.

3) I just recently recruited two people to work for a UK based company as tech support - they had previous experience to a point both had backgrounds in IT with related degrees / experience working in call centres / providing phone based support.

Hopefully you can see a pattern here - get some relevant experience. Work with computers where you can. Call local recruitment agencies and find out what companies might be interested or if there are any places you should be looking. The more you can show "I work with, and know, my way around computers" - the more success you'll have landing that kind of job.

And to anyone else reading this - this advice can be swapped out for any particular role you care to mention. The formula at entry-level is very similar throughout.

[–]RainbowInTheTrunk 0 points1 point ago

Thanks mate. All your info will be put to good use.

[–]Fineus 0 points1 point ago

Good luck. Feel free to get in touch again by PM if you need any other pointers - hope it helps!

[–]Maraboduus 9 points10 points ago

Cut the bullshit and get a job.

[–]JFMechdude -2 points-1 points ago

Exactly. Shit like this is an excuse to be lazy.

[–]skinnyhaz 13 points14 points ago

RE-RE-RE-REPOST!

[–]nachoman456 2 points3 points ago

also its not a reaction gif in any way.

[–]Zosoer 4 points5 points ago

he's reacting to someone telling him to get a job , no?

[–]nachoman456 -2 points-1 points ago

but that makes it an 'instance' gif

[–]Zosoer 5 points6 points ago

Sorry, I am confused. Is he not "reacting" to what someone said to him?

[–]nachoman456 6 points7 points ago

he is, and this view will vary among different people, but I think that the text is what really makes this less of a reaction and more of a far too specific gif to be used in another thread. you could argue that any gif is a reaction in that way. IMO this is more of an /r/gifs post. (though it shouldn't really be a gif at all, it would be a better post as a video in /r/funny)

[–]Zosoer 2 points3 points ago

Ok so a "reactiongif" should be able to be used in multiple situations and without text? Just trying to get some guidelines.

[–]nachoman456 2 points3 points ago

yeah that's a pretty good way to look at it.

[–]Poshul 1 point2 points ago

If it isn't a reaction don't post it here, why does no one understand this? This belongs in funny or gifs because it can't be used as a reaction

[–]PollysLithium 1 point2 points ago

Exactly!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

This is a repost of a repost of a repost, but it's still funny.

[–]ivenoideawhat 4 points5 points ago

There are literally an infinite amount of places you can get a job. Have you gone to every warehouse and factory in your town to see if they're hiring? Everyone who posts this is just picky or lazy.

[–]RXkings 3 points4 points ago

"Get a job!" "You hiring?"

[–]Picnicpanther 0 points1 point ago

Danny Devito is so close to breaking at the end of that.

[–]quaznaz 0 points1 point ago

Haha I can hear it in my head getting louder when he says fire off!

[–]Anniebanannimock2 0 points1 point ago

I am so right there, right now...lol.

[–]MysidianPadawan 0 points1 point ago

I wish someone would invent a job cannon!

edit: who cares if its a repost, not all of us spend every fucking waking hour on reddit!

[–]Shadowglove 0 points1 point ago

Oh. Oh. There are jobs in my country. In fact, there's a bout 2000 jobs in my region! But you need 20 years experience. And you should have some education. Oh, and don't forget a car. HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO GET A DRIVERSLICENSE IF I DON'T HAVE A JOB!!

[–]therique 0 points1 point ago

If only we could have sound with this

[–]Ikbentim 0 points1 point ago

Wildcard bitches!!

[–]NumbersMakeMeHorny 0 points1 point ago

This has literally been posted 30 something times

[–]Malex_Wolf 0 points1 point ago

I'm curious, does "30" make you horny?

[–]NumbersMakeMeHorny 1 point2 points ago

Not as much as 32

[–]pdmcmahon -1 points0 points ago

Fuck this is the repost from hell.

[–]turnleftdale -2 points-1 points ago

How about instead of reposting this shit on reddit you go look for a fucking job.

[–]revfelix -1 points0 points ago

You have just summed up my entire life in one gif.

[–]Smokalotapotamus -1 points0 points ago

I'd like to go a day or two without seeing this.

[–]duchovny -3 points-2 points ago

In the 2+ years you've been on reddit, you've had to have seen this at least 19 times.

Downvoted.

[–]anomaly149 -4 points-3 points ago

There are jobs. Sign up for them. They will not pay what you want them to, but they exist.
