Oosthuizen's high five after his albatross was almost as awkward

[–]abrakdabralol 121 points122 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The most awkward was when they got an up close face shot of Bubba and he kept holding back his man tears by doing the fake blowjob in mouth/cheek thing? And Jim Nantz just kept asking the most emotional shit to him, as if he wanted him to have some sort of super emotional break down, as if crying in a sausage fest wasnt enough.

[–]quietkoala 70 points71 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You are correct, they still do it outside with a big crowd, but they must prepare the green for the presentation. I would say it takes at least 30 minutes following the finish of play to have everything ready. The TV audience wants to see the jacket presentation but they are not going to wait 30 minutes so they present the jacket twice, once in Butler Cabin and once on the 18th green.

They are just so much more consistent than the average golfer, even one that plays often. Everyone has an awesome shot or two every once in a while, usually when no one is even paying attention. These guys go out with a ridiculously huge award on the line, and hit albatrosses and spin the ball sideways off pine needles on purpose then just make putt after putt after putt. It's pretty awesome.

You should. Watch more closely. This isn't a single Sampson, which would mean that the old man was left scratching a phantom itch from a missed shake. No. What we have here is a double Aleczander. They both went for it with one another. The old man jukes. White outfit man pulls a sharp left and ducks into 'sure thing city'. And the scratch essentially completes the dreaded double Aleczander. This is truly a SAP moment for anyone involved. Surely this is of some interest to you?

His first inclination was to check his phone for phantom messages, but then he realized he'd forgotten the damned thing.

It was a pretty fly move ... too bad we have slow-motion replay.

I know your pain, I was watching with my whole family; brother, parents, grandparents, dogs. I saw it happen and turned to everybody else with a huge smile pointing at the TV, "Did anybody just see that guy just get blown off by Watson?!" and I only got blank stares.

I feel like the internet has conditioned me to look for the awkwardness in everything.

The best part for me was that a man named Bubba won one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world.

[–]CJ_Guns 4 points5 points ago

Technically his name is Gerry.

[–]Gen_Buck_Turgidson 2 points3 points ago

And the guy owns the original General Lee. The owner of the General Lee won the fucking Masters. Bobby Jones is spinning about as fast as the rear tires on the orange Charger will when Bubba gets home and performs a smokey burnout....

To be fair, Bubba's Hail Mary shot out of the woods was pretty great. I don't know how he does it.

"I never got this far in my dreams.."

Calling that shot "pretty great" is like calling WWII a disagreement. Nobody hits that shot but Bubba.

What happens when the same guy wins the Masters two years in a row? Does he just present it to himself or does the guy from two years ago still do it?

[–]elementninety3 38 points39 points ago

The first time it happened, Jack Nicklaus put on the jacket himself. Badass.

Since then, the chairman of the club (Augusta National) presents it. I like what Jack did better though.

[–]Thatsafunny 11 points12 points ago

Does he get a bigger jacket the second year so he can where it over the first one?

[–]cough_e 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

By tradition, the winner of the previous year's Masters Tournament puts the jacket on the current winner at the end of the tournament. In 1966, Jack Nicklaus became the first player to win in consecutive years and he donned the jacket himself.[11] When Nick Faldo (in 1990) and Tiger Woods (in 2002) repeated as champions, the chairman of Augusta National put the jacket on them.

as someone who lives approximately 4 miles down washington road from the augusta nationals the best part of the masters is when everyone leaves.

[–]postitnote 2 points3 points ago

Well, the guy DID start retracting his hand first. It's not the golfer's fault that the guy on the right didn't want to hold his hand out for more than a nanosecond.
