The amazing thing to me about this is that the long thin canoes are arranged in the same way as the molecules in a liquid crystal. You can see some obvious disclinations, which are kinks in the orientations of the boats.

The worst part about canoeing in groups is that when two canoes get close, you cant paddle away because there is no room between them, so you have to do more complicated stuff. its really annoying.
