I was sitting in my living room and saw the truck pull up. I heard a faint knock and got up to answer the door. In the 30 seconds it took me to get to the door, they were gone. ಠ_ಠ

I sat on the porch all day with full view of the road and frequently checking the online tracking and then learned they had "made a delivery attempt". When I called to inquire about this, I ended up on someone's shitlist and they spent a few years "delivering" packages that never made it to my door. One of the "delivered" packages that management told me they could do nothing about (implying that I was lying) showed up on a route about six months later.

Note to self:

[–]I_Will_Allow_This 1 point2 points ago

This is because Ninjas are only ever payed in Ninja Dollars, and the exchange rate between currencies have not favored the Ninja Dollar recently. Certain members of the Ninja Union have been questioning whether to move to a different currency, but the current Ninja Grandmaster has vetoed this decision. In the meantime, Ninjas are highly affordable for nearly any business in all sorts of business practices.

In actuality, UPS is one of the most efficient delivery services in the world. Their drivers are unionized, and work to the tune of $30 an hour, but what you don't hear are the stories of how they reach the drivers seat in the big brown van in the first place. Well, well, well, each UPS driver has to earn his stripes, quite literally. They each begin on the warehouse line sorting packages for delivery. The work is quite grueling and well worth the beginning wages (in which most are hired on for seasonal work with no guarantee for future placement). Those lucky few that are asked to come back after the holidays can look forward to ten more years of work before being given a chance to apply for driving school. In rare situations this can be fast-tracked, but this is more of an exception than the rule.

In any event, the driver school teaches speed and quality over quantity, always with safety in mind. How do you give up ten years of throwing packages down a working conveyor belt? You don't. UPS doesn't allow it, and their driver dropout rate is less than ten percent. The few who do quit realistically aren't because of performance issues, but medical conditions and/or age related. Someone retirement aged with a bum knee and back simply cannot life packages in a timely manner. Those who do make it, however, can look forward to a busy future in a select group of distribution markets with retirement after twenty years of service.

Nice try UPS public relations!

[–]Darklighter82 52 points53 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

As an ex UPS driver, I can give a nod to the quitting due to medical issues(my knees just turned to dust).

But as for safety, it really was about 4th on the list. Your driver is getting yelled at nearly every day to be faster in every possible way. Safety is the only answer that can end an argument in front a union rep, but it doesnt end the relentless badgering.

I have a buddy who was "fired" 6 times over 2 months by a manager for going "too slow". He had supervisors ride along several times, and one of them even got fired for standing up for him in a union-represented meeting. They could find at most 5 minutes where he could improve, and the magic manager's numbers said he should've been 2 hours faster.

Its all about quantity. Not quality. UPS doesnt give a fuck about you. They didnt give a fuck about me, when I worked there, and my numbers were always good.

As a UPS employee, I always recommended Fedex to people(when I was off the clock). They treat their employees better, and do about half the stops a day, so they have more time to give your package and stop proper attention.

My UPS drivers have a preternatural sense of when I'm masturbating as they seem to show up at the time of action always. So now I feel bad, cause it takes me a long time to situate my rock hard penis so that it doesn't look like I've been spanking it. All the while shouting from my living room, 'Coming, coming.' Which I then laugh to myself over my witty pun, unbeknownst to the driver. As I waddle to the door trying to make sure my throbbing member doesn't pull my pants down of it's own accord I eventually make it to the door. Which then he's nearly up the stairs and acts as if he didn't hear me shouting. I enable his performance as I too act as if my shoddy attempt at hiding my schlong is actually accomplishing it's intention. I sign, he walks away, yay shirts!

TL;DR UPS guy tries walking away after 1 door bell and multitudinous shouting. Also many variances in the terminology for penis.

Absolutely true. Both my mother and uncle are UPS drivers. All UPS cares about is faster times and making money. Its not about customer service anymore. My mother pulls 13+ hour days, and her current state of health (not work related) makes running around for that long lugging heavy boxes around all day very, very difficult. My uncle, who severely hurt his back on the job a few years ago, is doing his job the best he can as fast as his back will let him. UPS doesn't care. They've been after his job ever since he got hurt. He has a family of three to support. UPS is all about money and not much more.

[–]mountainwampus 3 points4 points ago

On the flipside of this, Fedex seems to have no idea where to leave packages at my house because they deliver so infrequently. UPS might be rushy, but they come down my street every day, they know the residents, and they know to put my packages inside instead of on the front porch in the rain. My other horrible experience with Fedex was when I ordered my Mom a birthday gift from Amazon and several days after her B-day, Fedex calls me and says that her address doesn't exist. I told them to google it, and they said they don't use computers, they use "a book." WTF?!?

[–]Gumburcules 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

As a UPS employee, I always recommended Fedex to people(when I was off the clock). They treat their employees better, and do about half the stops a day, so they have more time to give your package and stop proper attention.

That is completely untrue for FedEx Home Delivery or FedEx Ground. I can't comment on FedEx Express.

HD and Ground drivers are independent contractors who are hired by another independent contractor who buys a route from FedEx. The route owner can pay the driver whatever he feels like paying them. In my case it was a $100 flat daily salary. (Before taxes.) Other people in my terminal got paid by the package, generally $1.50 per. Nobody, let me repeat - NOBODY - had any benefits of any kind. No health insurance, no paid days off, no sick days. I was fired because while delivering during a blizzard my truck skidded down someones driveway and knocked over a sapling. I wasn't fired because of the accident, I was fired because I told the owner about it instead of driving away like nothing happened.

As for your less stops, that completely depends on the route you work. I usually had around 100 stops per day, but I was in a very rural area and stops were often miles apart. It generally took me 12 hours or so to complete my route.

This is true. I work at the main hub in Louisville loading airplanes. The list to get the good jobs is very long. If I wanted to get decent hours I would need to be there 10+ more years.

[–]robm0n3y 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Isn't most of your hub automated? also doesn't your deck not get touched by rain?

[–]metallicabmc 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah for the most part. Theres still a lot of labor involved though once a week i have to work inside unloading feeder trucks where the work is monotonous and tiring. I know if I had to do that for 10 years I would hate to lose my job by doing something silly like treating a customers package wrong. As for the weather outside, we get drenched in rain/snow. The packages are loaded into big "cans" where they are safe (except when we have to take them out and put them onto a conveyor to be loaded into the plane's bellies)

[–]robm0n3y 1 point2 points ago

I was told that you guys have cover when moving the cans. When I saw that training video and you guys put irregs on a belt, I got pissed. I had to move them on a cart by myself.

My "regulars" are good, but once in a while a fucking ninja fills in...

My front steps are wood and it's tough to walk on them without being heard in the living room... I spent a few hours sitting in the living room with the window open, literally being quiet so as to not wake a sleeping child, waiting for the footsteps, so I could intercept the UPS guy before he knocked. The ninja on duty that day managed to sneak up the stairs across the porch and get a "missed delivery" sticky on my door and back to the truck without me hearing! Amazing!

[–]electricmice 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

actually no, you don't need to lift packages for 10 years. after you work there for a while, they give you a test to see if you are smart enough to be a driver. people who end up at ups aren't smart to begin with so maybe that's why it takes them 10 years. my friend's brother became a driver after 2 years or something. he was going to college for engineering though.

[–]willworkforicecream 2 points3 points ago

How big is your house that it takes you 30 seconds to get from the living room to the front door?

[–]Durpadoo 9 points10 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, waiting longer than 30 seconds at everyones house and the driver wouldn't have time to deliver the probably 200 packages he has that day.

[–]nofelix 9 points10 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Exactly. Only if he efficiently spends only a few seconds at each address he can fail to deliver all 300.

exactly! I live on a third floor. I left a note that they should leave the package by my door next time they come. They didn't even bother to come upstairs. Left the package on the street in Brooklyn. Off course it was gone within hours.

I caught a driver once, I was sitting right next to the door and heard his footsteps. I opened the door just as he was putting the sticker on without knocking, with no package in hand. He was pissed off he had to go back to his truck for it. Sorry dude! Gotcha!

Yeah, it just sucks when you're not a stay-at-home mom, and you're at work during business hours, which, for some reason, is the only time they deliver. I'd love it if someone started a delivery company that delivered on off hours.

I live in an apartment building and they are supposed to knock and then leave a slip in the mailbox and drop the package off in the office if no one answers. I'm pretty sure half the drivers just put the slip in and unload everything at the office.

[–]Wwallace7287 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Mine did that as well. They never stopped at the apt, just the office. I remember spending all day waiting for a package and never hearing a knock. When my SO gets home, he hands me the note attached to our door. Ugh!

[–]perverse_imp 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Shit, some similar stuff here.

Awaiting my package from USPS, it's a small one, check the online tracker "Out for Delivery." Ok good. Mail lady shows up, deliver's mail at the top half of the apartment building's maildrop, then at the back. I come out and ask if she has a package for me, as I have the pink slip from my mail box saying "Sorry we missed you.." etc. She says no she doesn't. I say I just checked the online tracker and the mailbox, you have my package. She tries to argue with me and I say fine can you just check the truck.

So a minute later I meet her outside by her truck and she doesn't even open it, she just looks at me and takes the package out of her bag, I hand over the slip and she scans the package and takes off.

This has happened once before, where the tracker online said it was out for delivery, and I just received a pink slip, even asked the mailman as he walked by if he could check his truck. He said sorry on a schedule you'll have to get it at that post office.

Such bullshit It pisses me off something fierce too because I only get my mail at 4:30-5:30, the post office closes at 5 on the dot. So when they say I have to await a full day or on the weekend 2 days just to get my fucking package that I paid certified signature delivery for it is extremely frustrating. I know it is in your fucking truck just give me my shit you lazy fucking postal-workers!

[–]MeloJelo 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, that's pretty terrible. I've never had a problem with USPS. They always drop it off if they can fit the package in the mail box. If they can't, they leave a slip, and the post office is open until like 8:00 PM near us, so it works out.

UPS, on the other hand, leaves the slip, which you can sign so that they will leave the package at your doorstep the next day, except half the time they won't accept your signature, so you have to go to their warehouse to pick up the package. The warehouse is open from like 10 AM - 12 PM and 4 PM to 6 PM.

[–]string97bean 55 points56 points ago

What I don't understand is the logic of what packages can be left without a signature, and which can. I had a 27" monitor, new printer, and all the parts for a desktop delivered at Christmas time all left without a signature on my doorstep. I ordered a stuffed Simon's cat for my wife and had to go to UPS with my ID to pick it up.

[–]darthchiapet 47 points48 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

UPS only requires signatures if you request it or if the seller requests it. I always hid the packages as much as i could but there are houses with nothing to hide it behind, thus you see pictures of boxes under small rugs.

There is usually a UPS upper that goes around making sure we hide them, if not we get the boot

[–]willworkforicecream 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I used to live in a really sketchy neighborhood and they always required signatures, even at times when I knew that the sender didn't ask them to.

[–]Cabbage_Vendor 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I hate when they hide it, I've had a package delivered and the delivery guys hid it behind a wall in our frontyard. It stood outside for 2 weeks before we noticed it, needless to say it was completely soaked, covered with mud((it was a dress and a few sweaters).

[–]Brontolith 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I work in a UPS Store and signatures for residential addresses only apply if the shipper asked for it or if the insurance was over $1,000. In some cases the driver might not leave the package and will just leave the slip. What I tell the customers, not sure if the drivers actually do this, is that when it comes to neighborhoods with issues of theft, the package won't be left. The same applies for some apartment complexes.

[–]elshizzo 1 point2 points ago

I work in a shop that gets a lot of packages so I've become pretty good friends with the UPS driver that delivers. He brings in the stuff off the truck that is addressed to my apartment and gives it to me so I don't have to worry about someone taking it if he leaves it at my front door. One day, I was supposed to get two packages but he only had one. He saw that I was supposed to get two, and he thought that the other one was on a different truck and out for delivery. I left it at that, said bye to him and kept working, expecting the package to be at my door when I got home. Instead, two hours later, he shows up at my shop. He had found the other truck, got my package off of it and then went out of his way to bring it back and hand deliver it to me. That's what I call service.

I work in a package center. Part of my job is coordinating these meetups between drivers when a package gets sorted to the wrong car. While we do have a few baddies, by and large everyone on the team is committed to getting packages in the hands of customers. I'm very, very impressed with the dedication of most of our drivers.

I have this same issue...with FedEx. UPS has never done anything close to this, but FedEx has literally argued with me after I complained they delivered packages to the wrong house (numerous times) saying that I wrong when my neighbour from across the street had to bring me my packages. I also caught them walking away after sticking the "sorry we missed you" note without the package even in hand. UPS has always been decent with their deliveries.

[–]EvilDrReef 8 points9 points ago

I had this happen this past Saturday. FedEx allegedly attempted to deliver my package at exactly the same time that we were all sitting in the dining room having lunch within a few feet of the door. After lunch I had gone upstairs to track my package to find that there was a "delivery exception," which seems to have consisted of the guy walking up, sticking a sticker on my door (and surely being able to hear us talking over our meal), and walking away.

Pssh I once had the telephone company come out to my house to fix the internet/phone after waiting for over a month. The guy knocked on the door. I got out there just as he was hopping into his car. He saw me and went to start his car anyway so I just stood in front of it. He got out and then proceeded to 'fix' the line. I went inside to go to the toilet and when I came back out he was gone and there was a note saying the problem was resolved. It wasn't resolved. I think he got fired after I complained for hours.

The last few years have been a suckfest for me when it comes to FedEx to deliver to my house. It started if it was scheduled for delivery on a Friday, if the driver didn't deliver by noon I wouldn't see it until Monday. Now he doesn't even bother coming down my street. I have reached the point that if I know someone is shipping FedEx I won't even bother placing the order unless I can make alternate shipping arrangements.

I actually caught them leaving one time bringing the package back to the car. I asked him why he didn't ring the door or knock on the door or make himself present in some normal humanly fashion. He said he knocked on the door. I was there, no one knocked. He didn't even have the package, he just walked up with the note. This was just one time, but this happens EVERY TIME

That was FedEx. The UPS video was a package of meats in a styrofoam container that was so tightly wrapped in plastic, it had no chance of breaking. I work for UPS and could easily identify the package in that clip. His mistake was flipping off the camera.

His mistake was throwing the package. Regardless of what it contains, you don't do that shit to other peoples property.

OH! actually that guys was a helper. He actually worked in the same center as my mom. The actual reason why he flipped off the camera was the guy was a total dick to every driver who delivered to his house so it was the helpers little way of getting back.

It's awesome to befriend your delivery man. I had two packages that had to be signed for coming but the day they were due to arrive (3-3:30pm) I am not normally home at delivery time. He called the house before work that morning and said he would leave my stuff until the end and delivery them around 6 so I didn't have to leave work early or anything. (I had told him a couple days earlier I was waiting on some important things that I had to get asap).

Our father stays at home (he's completely blind) and was waiting for the UPS guy to fucking show up and he just left it out there like a fucking asshole.

Fucking UPS. I had to ship tools to myself recently and I required a signature so if anything went wrong I could at least track the package. So UPS decides to deliver my package while I am at work. No prob, I thought, I'll just hit up customer service and tell em to hold it at the shipping center for me to pick up after work. When I called them at that number on the info notice they said they were UPS and that they would hold my package. I get to the shipping center and they have no record of my call, they have never seen that number (turns out the info notice has the wrong customer service number) and they already sent the package back. So my package gets all fucked up and then I had to wait two months for them to refund me. After that I used USPS and had no problems.

TL:DR; UPS gave me the wrong customer service number to arrange for pickup, sent my package back to the sender, fucked it up in the process and made me wait two months to refund me. Fuck UPS.

I manage drivers for one of the big shipping companies. If I may, I'd like to defend these guys. After all the drivers have left the building floods of calls come in from pissed off customers saying that our driver only left a door tag and never knocked... Why on earth would he do this? He'll just have to come back tomorrow to deliver the same package. Also they knock softly because they get complaints when they knock to hard. Why not the doorbell? You would not believe the number of times someone has called in a complaint only to call back a day later apologizing that there door bell is broken. Also door bells wake up babies, and in turn more complaints. It's in the drivers best interest in every way to get the package off of his truck, there next day is only busier if they don't. If you don't want to deal with this shit you have so many options to have your package redirected somewhere else.

[–]fap4u 11 points12 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well I guess all these asshole customers have ruined it for everyone else.

Last week a UPS driver did exactly this. I was expecting a package on a Friday since the tracking info said end of day on a Friday. It was late, about 7:30pm, I heard the truck coming from a street across from my house. I knew he would drive down my street and probably do some deliveries then come to my house. I can usually hear the truck pull up in front of the house but this time I didn't. About 5-8 mins went by and I was wondering why I didn't hear the truck already, I went to both my front doors to find a '1st delivery' attempt stuck to one of them. WTF! Two cars in the driveway, all outside lights on, interior lights clearly visible from the outside. He NEVER knocked, or he must have taped on my screen door with his nails. I have hard wood floors in my house so sound travels well; I didn't hear anything. My girlfriend was in the room right next to the door and she said she didn't hear a thing. I called UPS's main number to see if they could do anything and the guy couldn't even find any info on my package even after I gave him the number on the delivery slip and my address and basically said I'd have to wait until Monday.

What gets me is why bother taking the time to sit in the truck, fill out the form, get out of the truck, walk to my door and stick the note on the door but not knock loud enough for human ears to hear. I can understand not knocking ridiculously loud and I sort of get the baby thing. It's a shame dumb parents have to complain about knocking to ruin it for everyone else.

At the time I was just baffled more than anything else. Just sayin', he could have put a little bit more effort in...no harm done, not getting my package wasn't he worst thing in the world. Just a truly WTF moment.

[–]drummererb 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's why I just call UPS receiving central in my town the day prior to my delivery. I tell them that I'll pick it up myself and not to put it on the truck. Sure it's across the city but I get my package right at 8am and I don't have to wait for an unknown time.

The other tip I heard is use your work business address if you can. They tend to prioritize business addresses over residential.

[–]brain_candy 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This x1000. I order shit all the time. I learned very quickly that using my home address had worse odds of me getting my package with any consistency than winning the Powerball.

I switched to having all items delivered to my work address. I'm not going to be ordering that Peg-o-nator 9000 any time soon, but everything else I order shows up a day early at 11am into my hands.

EDIT: a word.

[–]gaurdro 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't know there reasoning, but this DOES happen. I have been standing behind my front door expecting a package (it was winter, don't have a storm door), waiting for them to knock. I got no knock, no doorbell, nothing but a door tag left on the door. I would conjecture that they expect the package to be either held at a ups store, or picked up from the depot instead of having to try again the next day.

If you don't want to deal with this shit you have so many options to have your package redirected somewhere else.

Trust me I've tried this several times. I always get the same song and dance that a delivery exception has to happen before I can redirect the package. Which means that I have to wait until they try to deliver it before I can do any thing about it.

[–]madronedorf 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Why on earth would he do this? He'll just have to come back tomorrow to deliver the same package.

As I understand it, each drivers route should ideally be about the same. Thus if he has to repeat one in the middle, all things being equal, that is one less on the "end". In other words, drives may have certain "routes" that they usually do, you arn't going to have one day a 500 package/10 hour route and the next day a 300 package 6 hour route. The software/route designing is going to try to make each day and each driver has roughly the same amount of time driving

There's the one time we had some important documents (some paperwork we needed to keep my sister's health insurance from lapsing) being delivered at the last second. UPS was polite enough to call my mom and let us know that the UPS driver would be there in 10 minutes. Immediately after the call, my mom calls me to make sure I don't miss the UPS driver. I happen to be out walking the dog when I get the call from my mom, but I tell her not to worry, since I'm two blocks away, and can see the only exit to our street. Sure enough, five minutes later I'm staring at a UPS slip stuck to the door.

To be fair to UPS, they had the driver turn around and drop off the paperwork when we called them. However, thinking back on it, I had seen a UPS truck drive by a few minutes before I got the call, suggesting someone seriously dropped the ball on getting the message out.

Always, ALWAYS use your work/office address if possible!! I can attest that everything will be delivered early and into your hands. They can't pull this bullshit on a company. Companies have lawyers. Home addresses account for a small percentage of post through carriers, so they don't give a fuck.

I work at an accounting firm, and anything this place sends or receives is priority 1. We pay good money for it. My orders from Newegg or Amazon get treated just the same when i get it shipped to work.

TL;DR: Ship to your work address and not your home address. Your package will arrive on the back of a pure-bred Clydesdale a day early.

Also, I must tell my small horror story about USPS:

My GF ordered some earbuds off Newegg. No big deal. Small package, and she selected the cheapest delivery method possible. Any of the other options were more expensive than the earbuds! She smartly heeded my advice and put my work address as the ship-to. Good so far...

UPS took the package 75% of the way here, and then handed it off to USPS for in-state delivery. Somehow, the USPS guy thought it was a good idea to try and deliver it on a Saturday! WE'RE CLOSED, DUMBASS! IT'S AN OFFICE BUILDING!

Well not being able to deliver it, the package was marked "Delivery Attempt" on the tracking site but that was the last anyone saw of it. After seeing this on the tracking site on Monday, I put in for a second attempt for Tuesday. For some reason, USPS will do NOTHING with it unless you tell them to try again. Tuesday... Wednesday...Thursday came and went with no sign of the package or update on the website.

I called the 800 number, and was told to go to the local office to pick it up. Fine. I drive on my lunch break to pick it up. Except, they have no record of my package. They shrug at me and after 45 minutes of these mouth-breathers wandering in circles they throw me attitude and tell me to fuck off. After waiting all weekend with nothing to show for it, i finally call their State Consumer Affairs department. He starts "investigating" the whereabouts of the package. Another week goes by and all he had learned is that it was some random USPS guy who tried to deliver it, and noone can find him.

I asked the Consumer Affairs Manager of USPS what will happen if they give up and determine the package is lost. His words: "We're not responsible for our mistakes."

wut.

He went on to tell me that they have no responsibility to reimburse customers for packages they lose. It makes the TIL about the Hope Diamond being shipped via standard USPS even more appalling.

My GF finally receives an email from Newegg saying that they've processed her RMA, and refunded her charges! WTF?!?!? I called Newegg (who are awesome on the Customer Service front BTW) said they got the package back saying it was UNDELIVERABLE!

After two more days, I get my last call from the Consumer Affairs Supervisor, whom I've been berating about this since Day 1. He says that he got a picture of the package and it was missing the shipping label. and only had the return address on it. When I asked him how it got from CALIFORNIA to NY and into the local offices hands without this, AND attempted to be delivered to the correct address, he had nothing to say. He tried deferring blame onto Newegg, but couldn't justify it at all.

We never reordered those earbuds.

TL;DR #2: USPS tried to deliver to an office on the weekend, then sent it back to the shipping address. Found out USPS has 0 responsibility for losing your shit. BEWARE!

knock-knock

1 second wait (1 second is reasonable enough time to make someone think that you heard the knock-got up-walked across the room- and opened the door isn't it?)

I open the door and he's already going down the second half set of stairs which are about 40 fucking steps from my door! I believe that they're just training cheetahs to act like humans and deliver packages...

As a Canadian who buys things from America sometimes, getting something shipped via USPS is 20% faster and cheaper than UPS. Mainly because UPS charges fuckhuge duty charges on everything. 16mm metal die? 20 fucking dollars duty, asked for at my doorstep, plus the fifteen in shipping fees.

The times I've been home when a deliver has come in Texas I have yet to see them stand at the door for 5 seconds (and that's being generous) let alone 10 minutes.

I swear back in Oregon the UPS people actually waited a few seconds; of course there was a time different in there so maybe policy and metrics changes have just made UPS worse everywhere.

lol, I'm an ex-UPS driver from the Phoenix area, and most of what I see here is people exaggerating. Most of the time we'd honestly make a good effort for people, but were EXTREMELY overworked. If you ever meet a UPSer, 10 to 1, he's disgruntled, but not at customers. At management.

There exists a state of war between management and hourlies in that company, and it still boggles my mind that they remain in business.

At least UPS "tries" to deliver packages. Fedex doesn't even bother taking the packages to the apartments. They go straight to the office without even leaving a note on the door. The kicker is they tell the apartment managers that they've tried delivering it to the residents so the managers don't let us know we have packages and give us all kinds of shit when they have been holding our packages for weeks.

....rant over.

The only good thing about DHL though is that you can call them right away and have them redeliver right away, he came back in 10 minutes. UPS, as great as I think they are, claim they have no way of contacting the driver.

Very nice. Now I'd like to see one for FedEx where they train you to throw the package like a ninja throwing star.

UPS just leaves my packages on the front porch. Thousand dollars worth of computer hardware, let's just leave that out in the open with no one to watch it.

My father is a UPS driver...and while the code may differ somewhat from area to area, it pretty much stays consistent that if you report an item as "not received" and call the managers, the cost of the item comes out of the driver's paycheck. They don't want that to happen, I promise you. /nodnod

It must be nice to actually get the slip that they claim they leave...

My UPS guy comes to my house wearing short shorts and an African safari hat and whenever he delivers a package he says, "I've got a delivery from the mystical land of Amazonia!"

I work at FedEx express. Most of the drivers here have been here forever! Everyone at FedEx seems to love their jobs. It's not uncommon to see people who have been delivering for 10+ years. I work in data and a lot of our commercial clients seem to have switched over after bad experiences with ups. Purplator is good here too!

I have the opposite experience: It's more like I think my house is about to be raided by the FBI by how loud they knock.

Being from the UK I can confirm this is how the Royal Mail works.

Oh boy, I had one hell of a time as a seasonal helper. I can confirm secret ninja training. Although, a couple people will have to speak up and ask for specific, otherwise, it's bedtime.

Dont forget to mention them showing up at 9AM, when you're probably asleep or out.

Every UPS delivery I have (in England mind) has been perfect. Packages not damaged, well dressed and polite delivery people. Generally regard them as one of the best options here. The weird bit is getting deliveries from Amazon, as they seem to just get random people to drive round and do them.

I'm a Fedex pickup driver, so I don't deliver packages often, but when I do... I knock loudly, and I knock multiple times. I give it about 5 minutes before I give up and fill out a slip, but I really hate filling out door tags and having to bring that package back to the station. I'll do everything I can to deliver any package I end up taking out short of leaving it on their doorstep (there are no "safe" doorsteps on my route.).

But again, as a pickup driver, I don't have the kind of stress on me that those delivery guys do. Not excusing the stealth tagging, but I'm guessing some of them knock lightly and run because they're running late. x.x Still uncool.

Lucky for us, one of our dogs is convinced that the UPS guy is the antichrist. He starts growling at the window the moment the truck turns down our street.

FedEx does this little annoying 'trick'. If you aren't home they leave a note telling you they will try to deliver the item again. The next attempt they leave a note telling you to pick up your item at some far away unknown place. However, you don't know this until you call that if you sign your name on the first tag telling the driver to leave the package, he or she will.

if only ups cared so much. more like they sit in their car and write the slip, then ring your doorbell/knock once and begin walking away immediately. if i don't run out, they'll be gone by the time i open the door. they don't care one way or the other, the packages never stop coming. if they don't get you today, they'll do it tomorrow. if not you, someone else. this is why i always prefer fedex, those guys are not stressed out and they're nicer when you meet them. ups has a tight quota that drivers have to meet so they're assholes when you meet them. the only reason why i hate buying from newegg is ups. and for fuck sake they refuse to just leave it on the door.

missing the part where they kick the box out of the truck, then proceed to throw it at the doorbell while running as fast as they can to get back on the moving truck on it's way to the next stop or pause rather.

You forgot the part where the "just missed you" slip is dated 15 minutes in the future.
