I feel like this depicts the general personality of the different colors so well, at least in my experience.

Yellow lab: hyper until they're about 7, super friendly.

Black lab: hyper until they're about 5 when they enter stoic mode, a little more standoffish but still friendly and the smartest of the labs.

Chocolate lab: full on derp forever.

when I worked with dogs, I knew a family that owned one of each. their yellow lab was really old, and eventually passed away. when that happened, they decided to foster a series of labs instead of getting a third of their own. really nice people--great dogs, too.

Allow me to do a character analysis based on this picture:

The brown dog: The leader of them, is wise and will usually decide what's going to happen. The golden dog: The kid of the family. Is always happy and looking for new challenges. Will play fetch forever. The black dog: the stubborn of the triplet. He knows what he wants but is perhaps not always straightforward in letting the others know. Still, he lose exercise and let's go of all pretense during such times.

My little girl is half lab, and half golden retriever. We were lucky enough to meet the parents, the father was this gorgeous, huge retriever, and the mother was a batshit insane chocolate lab. But that might have been because we were there to take one of her babies.

She was the only one out of the entire litter that wasn't a giant, blonde fuzzball. I had to have her. Surprisingly, for being about year and 4 months old, she's very calm most of the time. We also have a lionhead rabbit, and I'm pretty sure she thinks that he is her baby.

Man, I love my dog.

Its so interesting that i see 'friendliness' is a major topic in the comments but i have only met 2 friendly labs in my entire life and they were a pit/lab mix and a possible great dane/lab. And they had the same owner.

The rest of my experience with labs is one that killed my sisters pomeranian, another that i occasionally pass walking my small dog who lunges at her and actually snapped free from the owner and chased me onto some random persons porch (holding my dog in the hair like an idiotic rafiki), then family dogs that just were not friendly. They're cute but i haven't seen the natural friendliness.

I believe that the chocolate lab is by far the most adorable...it incorporates the seriousness of the black lab with the false feeling of superiority of a yellow lab...ive breed both types and neither was better at loyalty and love then the chocolate lab I currently have....not to say that the yellow and black labs aren't the most boss dogs ever, just that its like mating rose odonald and schmegal (spelled wrong)...no matter how rough the blood line, the result is gonna be adorable
