Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Reminds me of this brosnake.

He's a bro cuz he's cool.

between bricks and shit

looks like they updated the bible again.

[–]Atario 27 points28 points ago

I believe that's from the New International Brospeak Version.

[–]nermid 20 points21 points ago

You have no idea how much I would enjoy that Bible.

[–]--Rosewater-- 18 points19 points ago

"And God said, Let there be light: and dude, it was fucking bright outside."

[–]tubefox 6 points7 points ago

Have you seen the ghetto version? I forget what it's really called, some guy made it to try to get young black kids into Jesus. It contains gems of wisdom like "don't waste nobody" and "don't be stealin' from yo homeboys."

[–]moose_man 1 point2 points ago

NEW LIFE GOAL

[–]nermid 1 point2 points ago

You could actually make a decent living converting holy books to Brospeak, if you found a halfway decent publisher.

[–]sangriadvx 1 point2 points ago

This is a version I'd buy so fast.

[–]Noeth 1 point2 points ago

For anyone wondering about the real text:

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" (Genesis 3:1)

[–]eccentricerika 62 points63 points ago

o.O I'm sorry about tomorrow...

[–]Sonorama21 16 points17 points ago

We will cherish the times we had with him. The finite nature of life is what makes it so beautiful.

[–]randomsense 2 points3 points ago

27 days? pfffft. dont worry, we'll revive him with science!

[–]danieljamesfair 3 points4 points ago

Wow. That's beautiful. What happened to your snake? How did it ... Pass?

[–]Sonorama21 1 point2 points ago

Ah, the ol-

[–]GuineaRainbow 14 points15 points ago

And the serpent said unto Eve, "partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge, it'll give you the rcon password to the universe l0l."

[–]Isatis_tinctoria 25 points26 points ago

Or is he cool cuz he's a bro?

[–]I_Will_Allow_This 46 points47 points ago

Some of life's greatest mysteries simply aren't meant to be solved.

[–]marikol 19 points20 points ago

Or are they not meant to be solved because they're life's greatest mysteries?

[–]InnocuousPenis[!] 10 points11 points ago

Love you name. Just sayin. Not gay. Want to fight about it? All right, stay cool.

[–]danieljamesfair 7 points8 points ago

Lol. Random, but funny. I like it. I like it a lot.

I've got a friend I'd like you to meet. A business partner of mine, a colleague. His name's Mr. Nagasaki. I think you'll find him to be a very generous man.

Here's my card. Gimme a call if your interested. You could go far, you know. I mean that, so just ... Think about it.

[–]InnocuousPenis[!] 1 point2 points ago

Mr. Nagasaki wants to pee on my face, doesn't he?

[–]danieljamesfair 1 point2 points ago

No, but I do o.O

[–]jlinstantkarma 9 points10 points ago

Can it wait for a bit?

[–]Darthcaboose 1 point2 points ago

Damnit Garrus... Thane's already the reptilian of the group!

[–]WilliamDoor 51 points52 points ago*

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I spent a good 10 minutes looking at those two images, seeing if there was a subtle difference photoshopped in. I leave today a disappointed man.

[–]k3e7 175 points176 points ago

There's something about how those branches fit that really freaks me out. Almost like some variant of trypophobia.

[–]SecretNegroArmy 56 points57 points ago

I was mildly disturbed and had to stop looking at it almost immediately.

[–]ShuggaCheez 41 points42 points ago

I checked the comments specifically to see if I was the only one or not. I feel normal now.

[–]Ur_mum 49 points50 points ago

Huh. I think it's really cool, beautiful even.

[–]lovemyfakeboobs 20 points21 points ago

Sorta interesting how several people in this thread find it unsettling. I totally agree with you, but I wonder what brings about the aversion in others.

[–]iams3b 9 points10 points ago

It reminds me too much of zerg in starcraft

[–]localredditidiot 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, I agree. It kind of shows how life is unexpected, it might follow patterns, but it grows everywhere.

[–]AstralVoid 69 points70 points ago

Same here, it made me feel really uneasy

[–]jroot 21 points22 points ago

It's growing right at me!!

[–]jontelang 28 points29 points ago

Thats what she said

[–]zachkerr 1 point2 points ago

Zoom zoom zoom!

[–]appleseed1234 1 point2 points ago

4 months until yo momma jokes make the top of the comments section, calling it now.

[–]dlw421 32 points33 points ago

[reads comment]

[Googles trypophobia]

[Screams and hurls computer across room]

[–]RenGader 15 points16 points ago

TIL that I have trypophobia.

[–]Richeh 41 points42 points ago

There are two types of people. Trypophobics, and people who don't know what it means yet.

[–]Maggeddon 12 points13 points ago

It's merely the fear of a repeated pattern of holes. That people immediately associate it with Bot fly, and holes in flesh, is just ... strange, and a bit of a large leap. Holes in flesh make everyone feel a little squeamish, not just trypophobics.

[–]Pufflekun 15 points16 points ago

It's merely the fear of a repeated pattern of holes.

No, it's the opposite of that. It's the fear of holes that are very asymmetrical; usually ones that don't follow a set repeating pattern. This is an image of lots of holes, but it probably won't induce trypophobic reactions in anyone.

[–]atomlamp 7 points8 points ago

So Holes is potentially a horror movie? Crazy

[–]contrary-wise 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, I agree with this. This does not induce a reaction in me. Pandora jewellery, on the other hand ... Lotus seed pods, on the other hand ...

I think it just needs to look organic to freak you out.

[–]Pufflekun 2 points3 points ago

Source? That's pretty awesome.

[–]dangerous_beans 5 points6 points ago

The Enigma of Amigara Fault. It's a classic piece of nightmare fuel from Japan.

Edit: Remember that you have to read from right to left, if you're not familiar with manga.

[–]Pufflekun 3 points4 points ago

Holy shit, that ending...

[–]chili_cheese_dog 4 points5 points ago

[–]MotherFuckingCupcake 3 points4 points ago

This is so strange to me. I have googled this, and image after image, I have no reaction other than "huh?" to these images. I guess I don't have any phobias that I'm aware of.

[–]Enjoys_Fried_Penis 1 point2 points ago

Googles trypophobia

trypophobia you scary!!!

and here comes the nightmares

[–]Richeh 19 points20 points ago

It's the thought of root mass gently insinuating itself into fleshy tissue, slowly but insistently parting skin from muscle and burrowing into the dark, private recesses of your body.

There is no blood; the tendrils tenderly work their grisly effort around the arteries, the nerve clusters and the bone. The only sensation is an odd tickle, perhaps a delicate ache in a deep region of your flesh unaccustomed to stimulation.

Until you tug gently on the stems protruding from your body and realize that although a few slither delicately from their anchor leaving deep, red, raw sockets, the plucking and tense welling of the skin around the thicker of the tendrils confirms that the plant is now sufficiently embedded that uprooting would likely also cause a couple of major organs to tumble wetly from the neat, warrenlike tubes that have been hungrily dug throughout your body.

[–]dlw421 7 points8 points ago

[–]RawDogAssassin 1 point2 points ago

bloodraven

[–]cheerful_cynic 1 point2 points ago

he's gonna teach me how to fly!

[–]efstajas 4 points5 points ago

Thought exactly the same. I also don't feel good looking at this. It's not severe though, I seem to have a light trypophobia. It doesn't "freak me out", I just feel a little uncomfortable looking at it.

[–]p00f1ng3r 5 points6 points ago

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing. For some reason it really creeped me out.

[–]queeniemab 3 points4 points ago

Yes me too! I find it a bit disgusting.

[–]stephen_btm 5 points6 points ago

Made me feel uneasy too, though i'd never heard of trypophobia before. Turns out the following google search is taking a serious amount of eye bleach...

[–]Bellepoint 3 points4 points ago

OMG I never should have googled that. Now I can't get it out of my head and I feel very sick. I think I definitely have trypophobia.

[–]awkisopen 7 points8 points ago

I love these and other pictures that usually freak out people with trypophobia. I get a pleasant tingling sensation looking at them. Besides that, I can't find any similarities between them other than the fact that people usually mention "trypophobia" in the comments section.

Is there a subreddit I should be subscribing to?

[–]Lucy75 13 points14 points ago

Yo! Do NOT look up typophobia in google images. I just did and now I am totally wigged out! Seriously - gross. Not cool Reddit.

[–]awkisopen 8 points9 points ago

Why would you ever google image search something that's in close proximity to the sentence "really freaks me out"?

Wikipedia, man!!

[–]Lucy75 1 point2 points ago

I did wiki it first but I guess I didn't quite get it - so I took it further. Lesson learned, the hard way.

[–]awkisopen 5 points6 points ago

My sympathies.

[–]Cobruh 4 points5 points ago

"Lotus boob" freaked me out.

[–]PandaJones 1 point2 points ago

Me too! I wonder if there is a fancy word for us. I love this picture the most

Seriously, those of you with trypophobia do not want to click that link.

[–]justhereforthejam 3 points4 points ago

it's almost as if the tree knew it would trip people if it grew over the stone...

[–]chagrinning 3 points4 points ago

It gives me the heebie-jeebies too.

I actually shivered when I opened the pic and had to immediately stop looking.

[–]aedeos 1 point2 points ago

roots*

[–]ENGL3R 1 point2 points ago

Funny how they both trigger the same primal discomfort.

[–]CorporateImperialism 144 points145 points ago

life.....finds a way.

[–]CYRlX 97 points98 points ago

Life uh, it uh, well it uh, it finds a way.

[–]schlongtheta 5 points6 points ago

I swear I was on that page for at least a solid minute. My mind is full of fuck.

[–]Lexsonn 1 point2 points ago

I never knew this out before, but if you click the little cog on the video, you can speed up or slow down the video. It won't play the noises at x.025, but it will on all the others.

EDIT: apparently its only on this video. I can't find any other videos with this option.

[–]r-howtonotgiveafuck 3 points4 points ago

CorporateImperialism has been trying to kill it for a while now.

[–]vileSpanishiwa 7 points8 points ago

Paper beats rock

[–]TwistTurtle 5 points6 points ago

Actually, given that those roots won't be getting any water except from rain, this was actually quite a stupid move as far as life preservation goes...

[–]daysofstatic 1 point2 points ago

It's doing that Avatar thing, QUICK, BURN DOWN IT'S FORREST AND SAM WORTHINGTON

[–]NEStendog 6 points7 points ago

[–]Reckonerz 323 points324 points ago

I couldn't decide which was the less shitty pun out of "Tree-riffic!" and "Wood you look at that!", so I decided to leave this useless comment and move on with my life.

[–]GothicFighter 121 points122 points ago*

But you actually used both puns in the end.

[–]6xoe 71 points72 points ago

So much for trying to stem the inevitable pun thread, eh?

[–]Jorgeragula05 54 points55 points ago

Everyone needs to leaf this pun thread alone

[–]sourguhwapes 28 points29 points ago

Why can't reddit branch out from these old, annoying meme's already?

[–]onetimebsanders 37 points38 points ago

we need to get to the root of the problem

[–]PortalGunFun 24 points25 points ago

I think we've all gone barking mad...

[–]CannedBeef 21 points22 points ago

That's just what yew think.

[–]i7omahawki 18 points19 points ago

That response was rather trunkated.

[–]TeleportUsedAbra 6 points7 points ago

I guess you could say.. uh ... you could say .... oak.

[–]redditisaKhole -1 points0 points ago

no.

[–]PortalGunFun 15 points16 points ago

Why wood you say that?

[–]Vermilllion 21 points22 points ago

That poor sap tried to end it.

[–]wutO_o 5 points6 points ago

[–]Strug-ga-ling 9 points10 points ago

[–]Reckonerz 4 points5 points ago

I guess I'm just having pun! :DD ......I'll show myself out.

[–]I_MISHEAR_EVERYTHING 1 point2 points ago

WHAT?WHAT DID YOU SAY? YOU LIKE PUNS UP YOUR ASS?

[–]HATES_PUN_THREADS 27 points28 points ago

Thank you.

[–]doctorofphysick 14 points15 points ago

Yeah, glad we rooted that problem out quickly.

[–]lemonfreedom 18 points19 points ago

OH GOD MAKE IT STOP

[–]SmokingMarmoset 11 points12 points ago

I agree, we need to nip this in the bud.

[–]brodyqat 1 point2 points ago

Not to be all pun combo breaker, but I just wanted to say thank you for using that phrase correctly. If I read "nip it in the butt" one more damned time I'm going to.... I don't know what. Probably just be mad because someone is wrong on the Internet.

[–]gormlessTosser 1 point2 points ago

Good choice

[–]sidianmsjones 3 points4 points ago

*leaf this useless comment

[–]Cochise22 71 points72 points ago

I don't know why, but there is something about this image that scares me.

[–]particle_vs_wave 27 points28 points ago

I agree. It's kind of eerie. I keep imagining the roots are slowly traveling further and further outward. Maybe the tree plans an apocalyptic world takeover. I, for one, welcome our new tree overlords.

[–]alokococoa 8 points9 points ago

Little shop, little shop of horrors~!♫

[–]Funksolo 1 point2 points ago

Well that's kind of what every tree is trying to accomplish really.

[–]zdiggler 5 points6 points ago

I hate those sidewalk patterns. They always give me chills down my spine for some reason.

With roots even more but I was in Boston and they had side walk like that I was not comfortable looking down. Weird.

[–]haiku_robot 1 point2 points ago

I don't know why, but
there is something about this
image that scares me.

[–]stratamartin 46 points47 points ago

For some reason, this makes me feel quite ill.

[–]NicknameAvailable 5 points6 points ago

Appears beautiful to me - though it looks fake.

[–]Bellepoint 2 points3 points ago

Do you have the same feeling when you see little bubbles of mud evenly distributed, or peeling up soil that has cracked, or beehives? I get a little queasy about those sorts of things, it has to do with my OCD. Have never encountered anyone else with it though...?

[–]wildcard1992 2 points3 points ago

Trypophobia

[–]luckyshell 14 points15 points ago

I feel the urge to pull the roots out.

[–]landofderp 10 points11 points ago

This^ it's really freaking me out...

[–]onetimebsanders 22 points23 points ago

i've seen enough hentai to know where this is going

[–]Igotlost 16 points17 points ago*

Ive seen enough hentai to LIKE where this is going.

[–]r-howtonotgiveafuck 26 points27 points ago

THE TREE HAS EVOLVED THE ABILITY TO CAMOUFLAGE INTO ITS ENVIRONMENT!

[–]doctorofphysick 50 points51 points ago

WHAT TREE??

[–]jacobbsny10 1 point2 points ago

THE CAMOUFLAGED O-

OH

[–]Jeff_Goldblum_Voice 5 points6 points ago

You see life, uhh, uhh, uh, finds, a way.

[–]VulpesAbnocto 1 point2 points ago

Really? You made a novelty account just to post this comment?

....okay.

[–]mustardjones 4 points5 points ago

For some reason this gives me the heeby-jeebys.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Google says this is a similar image: http://i.imgur.com/Wfalk.jpg

I think there's a lot to be said for that.

[–]SilverXGames 19 points20 points ago

I'm not sure why everyone is creeped out by this. I get a feeling of life from this, a symbiotic link between the tree and the sidewalk.

That tree and that sidewalk are now living in harmony as they should.

[–]Maester_May 2 points3 points ago

Did you stumble over from r/trees?

[–]DorkasaurusRex 6 points7 points ago

I find this both eerie and beautiful. Nature is amazing.

[–]abom420 6 points7 points ago

As it is with all life. We think the concrete lives in between us, but in reality we live in between the concrete.

"It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything." -Tyler Durden.

Edit: I'm shocked how many people here also saw this as a metaphor for life, forever united. I love reddit

[–]ninjanick33 2 points3 points ago

Whoa...

[–]The_Dinosaur_Club 7 points8 points ago

Why does it do this? Easy. Water tends to settle into the cracks in the pattern. The tree roots grow into the pattern to seek the water.

[–]ChuqTas 4 points5 points ago

  1. Make pavement including a perfect circular paver.
  2. Plant tree
  3. Wait a long time
  4. Remove all traces of pavers
  5. ???
  6. Profit

[–]_BuddyTheElf_ 10 points11 points ago

[–]ChowderMann 13 points14 points ago

Are those... A bunch of tree penises?

[–]BoogsterSU2 28 points29 points ago

Ahem. It's a "treenis".

[–]ChowderMann 1 point2 points ago

Dear lord I almost shit my self laughing

[–]Rampachs 4 points5 points ago

The majestic Pandanus tree

[–]_BuddyTheElf_ 1 point2 points ago

they very well might be....

[–]Scrial 1 point2 points ago

Oh my god it's a....dicktree?

[–]NeoxGG 3 points4 points ago

The merge looks like this M.C. Escher picture

[–]Mniac 1 point2 points ago

Escher was the first thing I thought of when I saw this.

[–]6xoe 2 points3 points ago

Is this TreePorn or SidewalkPorn?

[–]SumDudeInNYC 2 points3 points ago

Concrete jungle.

[–]eaglehas1 2 points3 points ago

Where is this?

[–]sjsuismylife 1 point2 points ago

This looks just like the sidewalks all over Seoul

[–]BronxLens 2 points3 points ago

Reminds me of an M.C. Escher drawing; and the movie Inception -perhaps i see the roots circumnavigation of the stones as a metaphor for the concept of a dream within a dream.

[–]wingspantt 2 points3 points ago

It's very easy to imagine this tree's roots accessing your skin and slowly filling every vein in your body.

[–]paulderev 2 points3 points ago

I'm almost sure this is in Inman Park or Candler Park in Atlanta, GA.

[–]Holybasil 1 point2 points ago

Looks slightly parasitic. Kinda like zerg creep.

[–]Cubeface 1 point2 points ago

What an excellent picture. Shows how nature has had to adapt to our creations. Nature doesn't give a fuck, ever.

[–]SaikoGekido 1 point2 points ago

Instantly reminded me of The Enigma of Amigara Fault.

[–]pattychanman 1 point2 points ago

Is this at NC State?

[–]ManMadeChicken 1 point2 points ago

HOLYFUCKINGSHIT!!! That. . . Is the coolest thing I've EVER seen.

[–]prothean_disapproval 1 point2 points ago

[–]number8pie 1 point2 points ago

If I saw this on mushrooms I'd be convinced I'd have figured out the meaning of life.

[–]TwEE-N-Toast 1 point2 points ago

Amazing. The bricks shape the pattern the roots grow in, the roots are crushing the bricks bit by bit and the weight of pedestrian foot traffic keeps the roots nice and flat and wedged between the bricks.

This would make a great RTS game.

[–]Bobsutan 1 point2 points ago

That's creepy

[–]Antroh 1 point2 points ago

For some reason this grosses me out

[–]flipflopopotamus 1 point2 points ago

the photographer must have been M.C. Escher

[–]JamesGotALeg 1 point2 points ago

Nice. Thanks for reminding me why I subscribe to this subreddit. Cause it sure isn't to look at pics of people's dogs, dead relatives, or photobombs.

[–]akronpunk41 1 point2 points ago

Nature really doesn't give a fuck what you put in its way.

[–]Klarthy 1 point2 points ago

If it fits, I splits.

[–]pvguy 1 point2 points ago

I believe this is what happens when you choose the synthesis ending of mass effect 3.

[–]moneymark21 1 point2 points ago

Looks like Shepard opted for the green ending...

[–]ddshroom 1 point2 points ago

Great. We please?

[–]Autonomous91 1 point2 points ago

super creepy question, but where was this taken? i swear to god i've seen it before and i just want the selfish confirmation.

[–]a_Leaf 1 point2 points ago

12,809 downvotes. wtf Reddit?

[–]iamriot 1 point2 points ago

Will someone with a better camera and some photo editing skills find out where this is recompose this picture. Awesome find OP.

[–]cuppincayk 1 point2 points ago

This actually isn't too uncommon. If it can, the tree with try and find a natural route (lol gettit?) for the roots to go, but if it can't, it will force a way (like where the sidewalks get raised and such). Not really creepy, but very cool :)

[–]GrantThePlant 1 point2 points ago
