Segways are the monocles of vehicular transport.

[–]likwidfuzion 64 points65 points ago

Quite.

[–]TeamJim 50 points51 points ago

Indeed.

[–]MestR 53 points54 points ago

Indubitably.

[–]IbanezHand 27 points28 points ago

I concur.

[–]stanfan114 24 points25 points ago

What what.

[–]CancerousJedi 28 points29 points ago

Like a sir.

[–]stanfan114 20 points21 points ago

Smashing, old chum.

[–]CannedBeef 16 points17 points ago

Oh crumpets, my tea has gone cold!

[–]Flanq 4 points5 points ago

A true gentlemen never lets their tea go cold, YOU'RE A PHONY!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more

[–]Egotisticeggplant 0 points1 point ago

Sirgway

[–]sparkplug890 4 points5 points ago

Verily.

[–]xkontemplatex 5 points6 points ago

Mmm shallow and pedantic

[–]r0ckarong 39 points40 points ago

Is that segway modded to have a cane instead of the handle bars? Now I've seen everything.

[–]TheCodexx 26 points27 points ago

He has a mod that lets him steer with his legs. The can isn't connected, you just bend your knees.

Source: I'm in the Segway community and have seen these as well as SegSeats. That's exactly what it sounds like.

[–]okmkz 19 points20 points ago

TIL the "Segway Community" is a thing.

[–]TheCodexx 0 points1 point ago

Very much so. There even is/was a convention. Steve Wozniak was regularly in attendance. Chill guy, but he got married last time I went and wasn't conversing with anyone but his new wife.

Gave my friend a whole bottle of Arizona tea he didn't want, though. Well, half a bottle.

[–]r0ckarong 4 points5 points ago

Way for ruining my fantasy of a powered walking cane :/

[–]TheCodexx 4 points5 points ago

You can hypothetically still do it, although I think using your legs is overall cooler.

But if you're willing to take a cane, build a rig to hold it, and then weld it to the center of an i2, I don't see why you can't have it, you'd just basically be using the handlebars, except offset to one side. Unless you want to make a more complex rig I think that would be harder to control.

That being said, it's theoretically possible and I wouldn't be surprised if some Segway owners were interested in helping you. They're a resourceful crowd.

[–]HairyBaggins 4 points5 points ago

So... a segSeat is basically an electric wheelchair for noncrippled people?

[–]TheCodexx 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, in a way. Of course, there's a big difference between a SegSeat and a wheelchair. You can't really use it if you're totally disabled, but I know it's helped some people who have difficulty standing for long periods of time.

It's basically a bicycle seat that attaches to the Segway. It also has some kind of spring mechanism so it will shift as you ride around to let you shift your weight.

[–]frogminator 0 points1 point ago

SegSeat? Don't they call that a scooter?

[–]nIkbot 0 points1 point ago

Did an off road segway tour in the Bahamas a few weeks back.. turned out to be pretty fun, but at the end, as a last hoo-raa they taught you how to do this. Watched 3 little kids eat it immediately, decided to not try it.

[–]Pattonius 1 point2 points ago

I think that's a riding crop, as suggested by his fashionable riding gloves. Segways need to be kept in line.

[–]throwitoot 65 points66 points ago

GOB Bluth meets Mr. Monopoly

[–]reallyilly 27 points28 points ago

Kids coming up to me and getting their sticky little fingers on my Twenty Eight Hundred dollar pants.....Come on!

[–]gafl[S] 29 points30 points ago*

You think the guy on the $8,000 segway is going to walk? Come on!!!!!

[–]powshred 10 points11 points ago

come on!

[–]agile52 3 points4 points ago

Oh come on!

[–]nononao 5 points6 points ago

sh sh shoulda shou sh sh...

[–]hplodureh 5 points6 points ago

so...so...the guy riding the $ 8000 segway is gonna hold the door for you?? COME ON

[–]PatAunces 4 points5 points ago

Oh so you think they'll go right for the pants?

[–]reallyilly 3 points4 points ago

Sh, She, Sh, She, She, Sh, Sh Should

[–]JamoJustReddit 16 points17 points ago

Technically it's just GOB.

[–]00fordmc 23 points24 points ago*

You don't think the man wearing a $6,000 suit is just gonna walk down the street do you? Come on!

[–]throwitoot 1 point2 points ago

Right you are... but I think they call him GOB Bluth in the show sometimes.

[–]DrummerHead 6 points7 points ago

He looks quite steampunk

[–]matari 0 points1 point ago

quite. when done with the proper attire, it looks less like rubbish and more capital!

[–]powshred 1 point2 points ago

I expected this reference

[–]Clevername3000 1 point2 points ago

I was actually expecting the reference "LET. THE PARTY. BEGIN!"

But then I love awful movies.

[–]stonyninja 57 points58 points ago

This guy makes me want to buy a Zoot suit and a Segway. Then I will proceed to hit on women by yelling 1940's pick up lines like "Hi sugar, are you rationed? Ah, Don't be such a fuddy-duddy ya dame i'll pop ya in the kisser!"

[–]ruinersclub 23 points24 points ago

"Whadda buncha rubes, with the walkin' n all."

[–]7oby 16 points17 points ago

"Eyyyy! I'm rollin' here!"

[–]snarkyaardvark 2 points3 points ago

Unfortunately a Segway is like bluetooth no matter how you dress you are still going to look like a douche.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

You make me want to don a 1940's sailor uniform and kick some mexican ass back to their own country!

[–]MrGlib 17 points18 points ago

Is this at manhattan beach?

[–]gafl[S] 29 points30 points ago

venice, actually

[–]qeditor 2 points3 points ago

Saw him in Venice Friday last. My folks were visiting from the midwest and gave it a big ol' wtf.

[–]jahjaylee 1 point2 points ago

Gotta be abbot kinney if i'm not mistaken.

[–]woundmatrix 3 points4 points ago

This is not on Abbot Kinney; roughly the corner of Washington and Pacific, where the canals connect to the lagoon.

[–]RebelliousLens 1 point2 points ago

I was staring at this for a good minute muttering to myself that it had, HAD, to be Venice. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.

[–]LynxFX 0 points1 point ago

I followed him before and the amount of attention he gets is great. He has many different outfits that he wears as well.

[–]wtf_is_an_reddit 1 point2 points ago

I saw him in Santa Monica on St. Patty's Day!

[–]only_date_models 0 points1 point ago

Near third street?

[–]r-howtonotgiveafuck 29 points30 points ago

Disregard social norms, acquire bitches.

[–]Gallon_of_Milk 24 points25 points ago

I somehow doubt that was either the goal or the outcome of this man's day out.

[–]JustDan93 4 points5 points ago

I wish it wasn't illegal here in England D:

[–]BeatlesForSale 3 points4 points ago

Are Segways illegal here?

[–]mrretep 6 points7 points ago

Nope, he was talking about the top hat.

[–]BeatlesForSale 13 points14 points ago

Top hats illegal in Britain? Pah! Balderdash!

[–]Skithiryx 7 points8 points ago

Haberdashery!

[–]JustDan93 2 points3 points ago

yeah, they are illegal on roads, but you can use them on private land.

[–]TheCodexx 2 points3 points ago

Well define "roads". Do you mean in the streets or are they seriously banned on sidewalks?

Here in America you're legally a Pedestrian and given every right a pedestrian has.

[–]JustDan93 1 point2 points ago

everywhere but on private land.

[–]TheCodexx 1 point2 points ago

Laaame.

Between that and the encroaching fascism, I say it's down with monarchy!

But I'm American so good luck with your revolution. If you get desperate, call the French. They're good at beating the crap out of British Loyalist Scum. Or perhaps they're good at taking beatings from British Loyalist Scum while we run and hide in the woods. I forget.

[–]samwright2505 2 points3 points ago

Oh, both the English and French have vast experience in killing their own royal families and nobility. Centuries of experience in fact.

[–]Straange 5 points6 points ago

No way! I saw this dude cruising along Venice beach today too!

[–]Vinc3ntPh4m 8 points9 points ago

You will never, ever, be this cool.

[–]LightSweetCrude 6 points7 points ago

Kinda steampunk, in a way.

[–]BCBUDDHA 9 points10 points ago

yeah, I think he's a steampunker.

I love the aesthetics of steam-punk, but I'm always worried it turns in to some weird sexual thing when they get in private.

[–]Cruinthe 9 points10 points ago

My girlfriend works at a costume shop and she loves to dress Steam Punk. I can assure you that it ALWAYS turns into a weird sexual thing when she gets home.

[–]BCBUDDHA 4 points5 points ago

i meant to the level "furries" take it, where they're maybe meeting up on vintage bicycles and wearing monacles while some steampunk dildo rams a chick.

[–]wolfgame 2 points3 points ago

[–]TheCodexx 6 points7 points ago

I feel the same way. It looks cool. Then you realize the people who actually dress up like that are way too obsessive, only like most of the aesthetic when it's all together, and most of their costumes are unrealistic. Look, you want to strap gears to a gun? Fine. But don't glue them to your tophat. I'm willing to accept a gear-powered firearm but headgear isn't really something you can make mechanical.

But yeah, the SteamPunk aesthetic looks great. Some people just take it way too far and too seriously. If people casually wore corsets and vests more often I don't think I'd mind. It's gluing gears to their ties that crosses the line.

[–]Indoorsman 1 point2 points ago

A well tailored vest over a well fitting dress shirt is something I don't see enough guys wear. Still looks great and dressy, but light and cool enough yo hit the dance floor.

[–]frogminator 1 point2 points ago*

headgear

Head gear? gearhead? I don't know how to FTFY this one.

[–]orkid68 0 points1 point ago

I just wanted steampunk and dieselpunk to coexist and blend, but instead steampunk went off by itself and put gears on things

[–]isotopes 1 point2 points ago

The modern steampunk man.

[–]quickpensketch 6 points7 points ago

[–]FilthUK 3 points4 points ago

Quite.

[–]argon1028 2 points3 points ago

Looks like Wild Wild West II was greenlit.

[–]goblinpiledriver 1 point2 points ago

Came here for this, despite the fact that the dude is standing.

[–]turtlekitty30 3 points4 points ago

He looks like a butler. How cool would it be to have a butler riding a Segway? Zipping around with pots of tea and trays with scones...

[–]supergalactic 5 points6 points ago

There's a meme in there somewhere.

[–]Einlander 7 points8 points ago

One does not simply walk down the street.

[–]diamondtiara 2 points3 points ago

holy shit i saw him in venice a few weeks ago haha

[–]Werv 2 points3 points ago

They see me roll on, my Segway.

[–]edmontonpaul 2 points3 points ago

He looks like one badass super-villain.

[–]blackfuse 2 points3 points ago

The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety.

[–]tsw101 2 points3 points ago

and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies

[–]blackfuse 0 points1 point ago

who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity

[–]ThatGuy210 14 points15 points ago

Like a sir.

[–]redpossum 1 point2 points ago

the clothes do not make a gent.

[–]Trapped_in_Reddit 5 points6 points ago

[–]string97bean 4 points5 points ago

He is missing a monocle.

[–]dipittydoop 1 point2 points ago

When I'm rich enough I can definitely see myself doing this. Often.

[–]BornARamblinMan 1 point2 points ago

Proving once again the vastness of the steampunk genre.

[–]ShaggyMuskOx 1 point2 points ago

Saw the same guy rolling down the Santa Monica pier yesterday. Right after some homeless guy asked if I would trade him my girl for his bicycle...

[–]Bolsheviks 1 point2 points ago

I love the 21st century...

[–]phooez 1 point2 points ago

It's an Observer !!

[–]draikx21 1 point2 points ago

This is Venice, CA. It has it's moments. I will be there tomorrow. I wonder if I will see him there; hoping.

[–]pantless_pirate 1 point2 points ago

What's the word on riding Segways pantless?

[–]Yaksha25 1 point2 points ago

Getting some lunch like a sir

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

"Yes, I believe I shall take my luncheon amongst the proletariat today. Excellent."

[–]iliveonapalebluedot 1 point2 points ago

I took this picture of the same guy!

[–]PieRevelry 1 point2 points ago

Gob?

[–]Kingkuro 1 point2 points ago

My boss (who just retired this year) looking like a boss.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

[–]Bigman6693 1 point2 points ago

You always wear a tux.

[–]PeterCarpet 1 point2 points ago

I just saw this man at venice beach yesterday and was unfortunate enough to not get a picture.....to think I had passed by a fellow Redditor and didn't even know.

[–]Puregn0 5 points6 points ago

That guy is cool,I envy his style.

[–]chumpzilla 1 point2 points ago

He's like a more futuristic Loveless...

[–]goldblob3 0 points1 point ago

Mmm, yes yes, quite so.

[–]SaltyBabe 0 points1 point ago

And wears fingerless gloves.

[–]fridgeridoo 0 points1 point ago

It works with steam

[–]King_Xanadu 0 points1 point ago

I'd wager that his other vehicle is a steam powered time machine.

[–]bbbbzzzz 0 points1 point ago

Is this a statement about gentlemen or this one in particular?

[–]RickVince 0 points1 point ago

The y made a model with no handles?

[–]lsgk 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was gonna be a pic of an SAE on a segway.

[–]mommawhite 0 points1 point ago

Steers with a cane, bicycle gloves, a horn, and looks like a goddamn gentleman...this man may become the future face of Reddit...

[–]Koji11 0 points1 point ago

That's a very dapper gentleman.

[–]Pupikal 0 points1 point ago

I work for a Segway tour company and I would dress like this every tour if I could in a heartbeat.

[–]stonedchao 0 points1 point ago

i was so gonna buy one of those if I won that multimillions. get wasted and see if I get a DUI going up and down my neighborhood.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

He may have steampunked that thing up a bit. Normally they have sleek little fenders, whereas his has black pipe.

[–]Slippyy 0 points1 point ago

"I find your way of transportation shallow and pedantic."

[–]scrotumnalequinox 0 points1 point ago

[–]glassy125 0 points1 point ago

[–]wtf_is_an_reddit 0 points1 point ago

I saw this guy when I was in Santa Monica for St. Patty's Day! He was cruising in the bike lane not giving any fucks for a long time.

[–]waffleninja 0 points1 point ago

[–]betterWithSprinkles 0 points1 point ago

I saw him in Santa Monica a couple weeks ago. It was slightly raining too, so he had a nice black umbrella to complete his look!

[–]ceeeh 0 points1 point ago

10 pounds of copper and some aviator goggles shy of being a steampunk icon...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Hate to point out the obvious, but that gentleman is clearly a vampire hunter. A flick of the wrist and that Segway turns into a highly advanced gyrocopter.

[–]tictacteaux 0 points1 point ago

Method actor.

[–]devilsavacadolarry 0 points1 point ago

Like Gob

[–]Unidan 0 points1 point ago

I met Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway, at technology conferences on two separate occasions.

I slapped him on the butt once and the other time was simply a wasted opportunity.

[–]bazanko 0 points1 point ago

This dudes in Santa Monica right?!

[–]baordog 0 points1 point ago

Is this in Sarasota? looks like a Florida beach if I'm not mistaken.

[–]SirJiggart 0 points1 point ago

I must say... An automobile has a much more capacious boot

[–]funkyjunk69 0 points1 point ago

[–]ishbuggy 0 points1 point ago

Oh my god! Is that near Venice beach in socal? I think I saw him when I was there a couple weeks ago.

[–]ultrastoat 0 points1 point ago

[–]Nidht 0 points1 point ago

For a moment, from this angle, his right leg looked augmented.

[–]home_pale_blue_dot 0 points1 point ago

I saw this guy wearing a pirate hat last week. When he rode past me today on the beach path I proclaimed, "like a sir!" loud enough for all in the immediate vicinity to hear.
