      It's pretty common in basketball to jump off of one leg when dunking/laying it in. You tend to see players jump off two legs more often in the low post. On the run, it's much easier to jump off of one leg. With that said....it's CRAZY how jacked his one leg is compared to the other.

                            People being really jacked is actually a modern phenomenon, and the maximum level of jackedness has increased a lot over the last 100 years. This guy is credited with being the first modern bodybuilder http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugen_Sandow, and he would be considered unimpressive by today's standards. People are bigger now because it is easy to get large amounts of calories, and muscle building techniques have advanced. That said people should probably be leaner and more muscular then the average person is today.

                              Right, because the physiological results of hundreds of thousands of years of human evolution and adaptation can be dramatically altered by new (more sedentary) habits that have arisen over the last 2000 years.

                              I think what the OP was saying is that the human body evolved to be a bit more toned and muscular (because of the never-ending hunt for game and lack of transportation technology), but due to human intelligence, we developed agriculture, and eventually communities/villages/cities with new technologies that created various needs which too quickly superseded the basic requirements that developed throughout the majority of the evolutionary timeline.

                              In doing so, humanity has created a natural environment that is nothing like the true natural environment for a human (think pandas and bamboo) within too short a time span (growth accelerated exponentially via technology and innovation) for the human body to adapt or evolve to conform to the new environment.

                              If we HAD evolved, then our basic energy requirements would be much less than the global average of about 1600 kcal/day since these new environments require less work overall.

                              There are plenty of cultures that still live off the land you can look at. They are all wiry as hell, not buff and ripped. People arguing what humans should look like, or what we were meant to do are so silly. Evolution adapts towards environmental pressure, not the other way around. If the environment changes what is optimum then evolution will start pushing towards that optimum. The environment and what is optimum is constantly changing however, it's not like it's a static goal where eventually we hit a certain niche and stop evolving.

                              Being fat is actually exactly what our evolution planned for.

                              When you don't know where your next meal will come from, it makes sense--biologically--to gorge on high fat foods and store it for lean times.

                              The thing is our environment changed much faster than our bodies have. The type of people who eat a lot but never gain wait are actually biologically disadvantaged in event of a famine. Those who can maximize calorie storage would perform better in feast/famine environments.

                                          Actually if you look at the body of hairless chimps you see the same kind of "torn up" body. The difference is that they live their lives as their bodies evolved to live, and we don't, since we used our brain power over countless eons to build up technology and culture and ultimately overcome the daily challenge of survival. We probably won't grow smaller and slender like some people believe, since that's the lamarckism mistake, we will just become these unused bodies we already are.

                                          So, in my very personal and unimportant opinion, both of you are right. This is technically how we were "supposed" to be, as we evolved to be, but since our brain succeeded in overcoming the challenge of survival, our body became useless for that task, only performing simple bodily functions.

                                          TL;DR: If you use doritos as an appetizer, the dinner and all the rest becomes useless.

                                          There are some very pronounced differences between the muscles in chimps and humans. This is why chimps are so strong and can wreck havoc - a chimp could kill you with his bare hands with ease.

                                          But there's a tradeoff - having all those strong muscles reduces the fine motor skills. Some scientists believe there was an evolutionary adaptation humans acquired - be less strong, but have finer motor control in your hands and limbs, which allow for things like making and using fine tools.

                                          There's an excellent podcast episode on Radiolab about chimps, where they discuss some of the above. Definitely worth the hour.
