Some people are incredibly lazy. They bitch about no money then bitch about having to work extra hours. I'd work 7 days a week if I could because money is money.

Fine, don't work the extra hours, your boss will see you as lazy and you'll end up with less money than the person who put in the effort.

And if you hate your job that much then start looking for another one.

Say no. You have every right. It's not your fault if your company or employer took on a project that was outside their abilities to get it done on time during a normal 9-5 M-F work week. Your time is yours, and precious. Don't give it away.

He is available to work weekends when given the proper notice of such. Simply state that you had already made plans that involved an investment that you could not retract in less than a day notice. Or if you don't care about the job you can do the day and from there on pull the less than a day notice of vacation time. There is a good chance you don't want to work for a company that does this to you. A respectable company would only ask in such short notice if it was an emerncy and they need a replacement.

One of the main issues is that most places are employment at will which gives the employer a lot of room and rights that may not seem fair to the employees.

Not enough unions. Seriously.

When I worked with the union, we would work whenever the employer asked... but the employer had to pay for it. Overtime? Pay for it. Past midnight? Pay for it. And the result was that the employer suddenly figured out how to schedule people properly and hire enough folks to get the job done. And yet we still worked harder and better than people in non union jobs, so it was a total win/win.

This reminds of a time I was at a winter event and they were selling cups of chili. I walk into the middle of a snowball fight and someone manages to throw one into my cup and it broke out the bottom. He still owes me a cub cup of chili. Thanks Lukerules

When I was in high school we would have 'soup days' a couple times each winter. I was selected to be one of the people serving it. You had a choice of chicken noodle, vegetarian, and chili. We would pour you a cup and you would be on your way to class. Well, this one girl asks for a cup of chili. I hand it over to her just as a football comes flying out of nowhere. Chili everywhere. It exploded all over her white coat, a couple girls started laughing and she just sat down and cried.
