Does he explicitly state he doesn't believe in God? Because that passage leads me to believe he is more of a deist than anything.

"Stood in firelight, sweltering. Bloodstain on chest like map of violent new continent. Felt cleansed. Felt dark planet turn under my feet and knew what cats know that makes them scream like babies in night. Looked at sky through smoke heavy with human fat and God was not there. The cold, suffocating dark goes on forever and we are alone. Live our lives, lacking anything better to do. Devise reason later. Born from oblivion; bear children, hell-bound as ourselves, go into oblivion. There is nothing else. Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It’s us. Only us. Streets stank of fire. The void breathed hard on my heart, turning its illusions to ice, shattering them. Was reborn then, free to scrawl own design on this morally blank world. Was Rorschach. Does that answer your questions, Doctor?"

I think this quote is more appropriate and, god, it's so BADASS.

that is a lot better, but the shorter one looked better in the picture

Nice. This is more like it. Thanks, pal!

My thoughts also.

[–]TheMusicalNihilist 2 points3 points ago

I seem to recall Rorschach being one of the most conservative characters in all of the Comics/Graphic Novels I have read.

[–]Valdincan 2 points3 points ago

He was made by Moore to try and showcase the problems with Objectivism
Moore himself called Rorschach a nutcase.

[–]IamSparticles 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I kind of feel like he's a caricature of what believers think about atheists. That we set our selves up as the ultimate authority in place of the god we don't believe in.

[–]Falkner09 0 points1 point ago

Wow it never occured ot me Rorschach was an objectivist, but you're right. That's why he's an atheist and still bitterly right wing, socially and economically on political issues. I always just wrote the extremist hate off as due to his childhood traumas, but this is it.

[–]GSoviet306 1 point2 points ago

Don't forget that he was also a right wing nut-job, and a ruthless sociopath. He's a terrific character, but he's not exactly the best role model.

[–]thelunchbox29 4 points5 points ago

Your favorite atheist is a psychotic murderer so far out of touch with reality that even his friends can't stand him?

[–]Banaam 12 points13 points ago

One can't honestly say he isn't interesting...

[–]emethias 0 points1 point ago

and he's all cause and effect. except for the mask..

[–]Cockpuncher_47 2 points3 points ago

That's Rorschach's image from the movie which misrepresents the character.

[–]delofan 0 points1 point ago

And the movie as a whole. The change of foe threatening the whole planet... Its just disgraceful. . .

[–]Cockpuncher_47 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, the whole movie brings mixed feelings. It's done greatly, nicely acted, some scenes are masterpieces. Yet there're lots of retarded ideas. And the whole sex scene with Hallelujah as soundtrack is just an abomination.

[–]delofan 0 points1 point ago

He is not a murderer! He is a moral crusader, but his moral ideologies are a bit... Weird. Kantian. Go figure.

[–]Aiwatcher 1 point2 points ago

Rorschach also was anti-homosexual. He was extremely conservative and I'm pretty sure that he said at one point, "Atheists and homosexuals run amuck" or something like that. He's not really atheist, nor is he all that admirable.

A very cool and interesting character. But he's not really a respectable role-model.

[–]red_wolf757 0 points1 point ago

My mother thinks like this but is still a christian.. She would be an atheist but she asks me how can you go on knowing their is no God..? Can anyone answer that question?

[–]Dandi8 1 point2 points ago

I would answer: Normally. Just like every other goddamn atheist. Knowing that there is no God is scary at first but then you realize YOU are in charge of your own morals. YOU decide whether homosexuality is good or bad and don't need anyone to tell you. Once you realize that, you can become more moral than you ever have been because there is no one telling you that your intrinsic morality is wrong.

Furthermore, not believing in the afterlife means you take greater care to live this life as best as you can. Automatically, this leads to a better life for you and everyone else around you. Once you get over the 'death and then nothing' fact life gets so much better...

Basically, after you stop believing in God, life becomes about living IN the moment, rather than for the moment which might come after you die. One can finally enjoy everything without fearing that he might be judged for it.

The first step to atheism is only difficult because it's difficult to believe in the above. However, I don't know any atheist or religious person turned atheist who would say that their atheism makes their lives worse. One should take note when every atheist praises atheism, while every 'Christian' is afraid to think for themselves because they might be judged for it after they die.

Thank you.

[–]Dandi8 0 points1 point ago

No problem. I wish my parents were on the verge of converting to atheism. Sadly, they're still hardcore believers. Least I can do is try to help others :)

[–]DoctorLost173 0 points1 point ago

How does that make him an atheist.... To me it looks like he's saying to everyone atheist that say God doesn't exist because they think He is mean

[–]cptjmshook 0 points1 point ago

A violent, antisocial, objectivist psychopath incapable of basic human interaction?

If I were you, I wouldn't go around telling people your favorite atheist is exactly the kind of atheist most ignorant theists think all atheists are like.

[–]yarnicles -1 points0 points ago

I may or may not be obsessed with him <3
