Some of the "no make-up" pictures actually show women wearing make-up - like the light-haired women with dark eyelashes. That's mascara/ liner.

It's not really a fair comparison. Most of the "before" pictures seem to be taken at unflattering angles, under harsh light, and with poor contrast. I bet if they were given the opportunity to have a picture taken without makeup in a professional manner rather than just a mugshot, they would look much like the "after" pictures.

Still, though, it's amazing what makeup and photoshop can do.

First of all, many of them are still good looking. And a few of them have ugly/weird faces that no amount of makeup & shopping could hide.

I would like to point out the "before" shots are horrible photos that would not do them any favors even in full makeup. Bad lighting. Blank facial expression. White background (even the BMV uses blue!). Hair pulled back. Many shots look over exposed. Everyone is staring straight at the camera (most people look better at a slight angle).

These are not "lazy Saturday, lounging around the house with no makeup". These are "just got pulled out of bed, given a hair tie, and had a mug shot taken." Give each of these women a cup a coffee, a hair brush, and a decent photographer, and you'll still get some stunning shots.

Taking a picture with a wide-angle lens, as opposed to one suitable for portraits (say 75-100mm...), I'd say in this case is cheating.

Sure, even the most gorgeous women in the world can be made to look like goldfish in a bowl if you go out of your way with bad photography.

Does that really prove any points?

If these shots were taken with the same lens, camera and lighting, it'd be a whole other matter, and a lot more interesting to see!

I don't get the photoshop comments. The whole point of a super model is that they don't need photoshop. Obviously makeup is needed... but when they are doing a runway show, there is no photoshop involved. Any super model pretty much got her job by looking good in makeup, in person, not by looking good in touched up photos on the web.
