While there are a few times in hockey when a penalty is necessary, most of the time it's just stupid. I've got no problem with these guys messing with them. Adds to the penalty box. Don't like it? Don't go to the box.

a penalty signifies to a player when they have crossed the line, which allows them to play on the line. one who doesn't play on the line isn't playing hockey!

Thank you for the lesson but that is the exact thing im talking about.. a player can cross the line and sometimes it is necessary.. most of the time,though, it is not. It is stupid. It is selfish and not in the best interest of the team. Sometimes a penalty can save a goal and it is what we like to call a good penalty. So like I said originally.. Don't want to go to the box and get harrassed? Don't "cross the line" as you would put it.

you must be a casual fan - I thought everyone knew this story:

During last season, some fans at Toronto Maple Leafs games would sneak boxes of Eggos into games to chuck at players (mostly Dion Phaneuf, for some reason) - it's not absolutely difinitive why this started, but most people agree it was because the fans had gotten fed-up with the Leafs' ceaseless "waffling"

A few days later this picture got really popular on many NHL forums/fansites - most people agree that is the only cup the Leafs ever have any chance of acquiring

Needless to say, the green men where all over this in anticipation of the Leafs visiting Vancouver - the rest is history
