This one time, when I was in college. I got up and it was just another day. I took a shower and then I got dressed. I'm not sure if I ate anything before I left, but who cares. I go to my class and there are people standing everywhere. I ask someone, "What's going on?" I believe his reply came closest to, "Somebody flew a plane into the tower." So I'm thinking that a plane crashed into a control tower, and I'm wondering what the big deal is. So a plane crashed into a control tower. So what. Right? But apparently all classes were canceled. I still didn't know what was going on. I don't remember how long it took me to find out that on that day, the 11^th of September, back in 2001, two planes were flown into the World Trade Center. I do remember that, for whatever reason, I later called my mother and told her that I was okay, even though NJIT is in Newark, NJ. That was only when I was finally able to get a call through, though, because everybody everywhere was trying to call somebody somewhere. For the next several days, I remember being in this public lounge room with the television being projected onto a big screen showing only the news. I was practically glued to it. Classes were canceled for several days, actually. I don't remember how long, though. This was a little over a decade ago and most of my memories involve me watching the news.

Threads like this show me why higher education in America screwed. Universities charge more and more every year and students protest the tuition increases, but fresh faces line up in record numbers for the chance to pay the ridiculous fees.

All the while, the same college students don't give a shit what kind of education they actually get for their money. If they did, they wouldn't cheer every class cancellation like it was a gift.

It's a bubble. The value of a college education is decreasing at the same rate that the cost of it is increasing. It's only a matter of time before reality catches up.
