Hell, I'm 19 and it's still all about the candy. I love this country.
[–]laller 45 points46 points47 points 9 months ago
24 here and I'm buying myself a MASSIVE egg.
[–]TenkaiStar 71 points72 points73 points 9 months ago
26 and my parents still hide the egg. The bastards....
[–]tardy4datardis 34 points35 points36 points 9 months ago
Lol 22 here and I still get excited about the egg hunt
[–]Sauceror 48 points49 points50 points 9 months ago
22 here and my life is all grown up and boring.
[–]hermann_toothrot_84 14 points15 points16 points 9 months ago
I am really sorry for that, mate! I am 28 and can say: half grown up, half kid, and I am not bored! :)
[–]alcalde 13 points14 points15 points 9 months ago
I'm going to be 40 and the fancy Easter candy I ordered just arrived in the mail today. :-)
[–]W00ster 26 points27 points28 points 9 months ago
I'm 54 and what does "growing up" mean?
[–]TenkaiStar 12 points13 points14 points 9 months ago
I think is has something to do with trees and pineapples.
[–]tardy4datardis 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
awwwww :( hug
[–]mpjby 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
20 here and I'm visiting my family this weekend. For the egg hunt.
[–]lactoseintolerantcat 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
28 here and i have a bunch of eggs in my van, just follow me.
[–]petitmetis 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Ah, splendid idea. Just bought one for my girlfriend.
[–]elshizzo 25 points26 points27 points 9 months ago
that's what's great about being an atheist celebrating religious holidays. They are all either about food and/or family.
[–]lolmountain 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
And gifts! :D
[–]PFisken 12 points13 points14 points 9 months ago
I bought 2kg candy...
I'm going to die today and probably wake up confused on Monday.
[–]Kado_Isuka 19 points20 points21 points 9 months ago
Jesus?
[–]zHellas 9 points10 points11 points 9 months ago
Better yet, he's Candy Jesus!
[–]otherwiseguy 28 points29 points30 points 9 months ago
I would have nailed Jesus to the cross myself if it meant the eventual invention of Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs.
[–]michellaneous 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Have you tried?
[–]anotheroneofem 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
I cannot describe how disappointed I was that this was not a nail-Jesus-on-the-cross Flash game.
[–]Bronystopheles 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I read that in Finn's voice.
[–]morfar22 71 points72 points73 points 9 months ago
I "celebrate" easter by having a nice dinner and not giving a fuck about why I'm celebrating.
It's a family tradition.
[–]iforgotmyusername12 10 points11 points12 points 9 months ago
It is good to keep up traditions, we hide eggs and go eat brunch with parents. Occasionally we ask ourselves, why are atheists celebrating Easter, but like you said doing things together as tradition is fun and who cares about the reason. It is not like Christians actually have a reason for the eggs and bunnies (those are all pagan parts of the spring solstice) but they still use them.
[–]darkainur 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Plus if we all take the holiday and particpate in holiday without acknowledging the Christian meaning we actually undermine it. Easter progressively stops being about Christ and more just a fun family tradition like what xmas is now.
[–]iforgotmyusername12 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I never thought of it that way, that just might work. :D
[–]Forss 21 points22 points23 points 9 months ago
Kids these days, they need to watch more Anders och Måns!
Anders och Måns - is there a god?
[–]theowest 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
"..Next week will be about source criticism.."
[–]Goldflyboy 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I think you need to be a Swede to fully appreciate how absurdly funny his last comment was. I seriously wasn't prepared for it and I'm laughing so much I'm crying...
[–]rosts 143 points144 points145 points 9 months ago
That's brilliant!
Was that in today's Metro? Think I'll get outside to grab it. Jesus will never find his way back in our society. Ghosts and other nonsense might, but Jesus is eternally dead in Scandinavia.
[–]jonahe 73 points74 points75 points 9 months ago
Strangely enough, this (mistaking Jesus for a goat) is not unheard of...
For those who don't know swedish:
Who was Jesus? Ming-Fu Engstrand, 4 years old: Well, he was born. He was a goat, I have seen that.
Who was Jesus?
Ming-Fu Engstrand, 4 years old: Well, he was born. He was a goat, I have seen that.
[–]rosts 130 points131 points132 points 9 months ago
So, from two independent sources, we are gathering Jesus was a goat. Is a new fork of christianity about to form?
[–]CAPS_LOCK_USERNAME 89 points90 points91 points 9 months ago
Praise his goatly name.
That makes me think, we could call it Goatseism.
[–]jonahe 57 points58 points59 points 9 months ago
Not so fast. I have reason (hard evidence!) to believe Jesus was not a goat, but rather he was a sheep.
"The Lord Is My Shepherd"? Yes, now it all makes sense. (Kind of..)
[–]A_Mouse_In_Da_House 30 points31 points32 points 9 months ago
that would make us the sheep.
WAKE UP SHEEPLES.
[–]orthag 15 points16 points17 points 9 months ago

[–]DorotheaLadislaw 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Wow. Until you wrote that out, I never got the connection. I just thought it was random sounds. Babe..so many levels.

[–]Rmeder1 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago

[–]JaRumpa 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I can wait for the Easter Goat!
[–]kk- 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Goatseism? Nope!
[–]cssher 8 points9 points10 points 9 months ago
Jesus: He died for your chinny-chin chins
[–]zmansman17 3 points4 points5 points 9 months ago
Noob here, but isn't Sweden have the highest per capita secular population?
I guess they start young.
[–]JeySonSon 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
yeh it's remarkable how easy it is without exposure :)
[–]Anosognosia 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Depends a bit on how you do the tests. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_atheism But Sweden is very low on most scales even if other countries beat us in each statistic. The thing we score the "best" on is the "is religion important" that we (last time I checked) scored the lowest.
[–]Learn_To_Swim 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
He was sacrificed upon a lattice of steel of incalescence and resurrected onto a plane of silver where he was served to all and was sinfully delicious.
[–]NotVerySmarts 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
The beard still seems relevant.
[–]xaru1 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Maybe Jesus is actually Satan.
[–]Kamikasi 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
My parents are both atheists so I had never heard of Jesus until some lady at the daycare I went to told me about him. That afternoon when my mom came to pick me up I was very excited to tell her about the fairy tale depicting "Getost" (which sounds similar to the Swedish pronunciation of Jesus but means goat cheese).
When my mom figured out what I was talking about she laughed so hard she didn't even have time to get angry about the woman trying to indoctrinate her child.
[–]Fearlessbunny 20 points21 points22 points 9 months ago
Jesus has been dying in scandinavia for a long time. I'm almost 24 years old, out of all the class mates i've had over the years (maybe 90-100?) maybe 5-6 of them have been christian, and maybe 1 or 2 actually goes to church once in a while
If I look at the older members of my family, only my grandparents on my father's side is christian, my grandparents on my mother's side are/were atheist, and they are/were 85~ years
[–]tabernumse 31 points32 points33 points 9 months ago

One Finn joining in the fun!
[–]1632 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
A Finn? Kippis!
[–]emilianna 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Yes! Kippis! Many times kippis, no work for four days!
[–]fakefin 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
But Finland isn't part of the Scandinavia :(
[–]emilianna 8 points9 points10 points 9 months ago
In my dreams it is :) Scandinavia would have it too easy and fun without some grumpy Finns!
[–]Nemokles 17 points18 points19 points 9 months ago
While Finland is technically not part of Scandinavia, we are one big family in everyone's minds. Besides, you're right. What would we be without our grumpy, drunk, naked and sweating neighbours that are there, ready to defend us against Russia if they ever go crazy again? I voted for Lordi.
[–]emilianna 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago*
And you are right there next to us. I visit Scandinavia for the languages and for the eye candy. Some hot guys (and girls) roaming on the streets!
[–]regionalwhale 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
...roaring with mushroom-induced rage, plundering and pillaging from house to house, raping the women and also the men because we're fine with that kind of stuff over here, rounding up polar bears and making nice little watches out of chocolate... Yes, I want to live and I want to die in the North!
[–]Koneke 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Sverige <3 Finland 4ever
[–]tabernumse 4 points5 points6 points 9 months ago
Sorry :( We can always do a Northern Europe highfive, instead!
Yes, please! Nordic high five would please me oh so very much!
[–]dannomac 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Can Canada play too? We're northern.
[–]aaneton 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Actually when the term Scandinavia was invented, Finland was part of Sweden, therefore belonging to Scandinavia. Thats why much of the world properly associate Finland with all of Scandinavia.
[–]TheHudJoben[S] 4 points5 points6 points 9 months ago
Yeah, it's from todays Metro :)
[–]rosts 11 points12 points13 points 9 months ago
Found it on their online print, as well. Here's the short article: http://www.metro.se/nyheter/barnen-darfor-firar-vi-pask/EVHlde!7BkUha9X7Kpe6/
I wonder if Fox news would choose to ignore that comment :)
[–]feureau 44 points45 points46 points 9 months ago
I bet they've never even heard of Sweden before.
My favorite Scandinavian country. My favorite swedish word is: Slutstation. You guys are awesome! \o/
EDIT: Before you downvote, Slutstation is a legit Swedishnese. Ask a Swedian, they'll confirm.
[–]RetardedJedi 22 points23 points24 points 9 months ago
Hahaha I've never thought about how funny slutstation must sound to non-swedes, thanks for the smile
[–]feureau 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
The Slutstation will never be the same again for this RetardedJedi...
One question though: Is it pronounced in Swedish the way it's pronounced by an English gentleman?
[–]Baunk 6 points7 points8 points 9 months ago
No, in sweden its pronounced more like sluuutstation, the U is longer. and it sounds like a U instead of a combination of U and A like in slut :P
[–]Zackiboi 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
haha no not at all.
[–]degenererad 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
http://translate.google.se/#sv|en|slutstation
[–]RetardedJedi 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Nah, long U and not a hard T as in the english slut
[–]obscenicus 11 points12 points13 points 9 months ago
Confirming/Bekräftar!
[–]emwtur 8 points9 points10 points 9 months ago
farthinder is ok to !
[–]Quadman 25 points26 points27 points 9 months ago
It's not the fart that kills, it's the smäll.
[–]obscenicus 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Oh boy, so long since I hear that one, thanks. :)
[–]absolutelynothing 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Translation: It's not the speed that kills, it's the bang/crash.
It's funny because the words are similar, and they're Sweirdos, thus have a strange sense of humor. :-)
[–]PC-Bjorn 7 points8 points9 points 9 months ago
It's OK, but I really think the Norwegian word for speed bumps might be just a tad better. Wait for it... FARTSHUMPER
[–]Goldflyboy 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
I think Norwegians win all competitions on funny words easily /Swede
[–]Sookye 10 points11 points12 points 9 months ago
And "slutspurt med bra fart" is an unremarkable phrase.
[–]sneerpeer 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
"final sprint with good speed"
[–]Ching_chong_parsnip 9 points10 points11 points 9 months ago
Also confirming. For everyone who doesn't know Swedishnese, slutstation=end station.
Another nice word is "gift." Means both "poison" and "married". Coincidence?
[–]Noobleton 14 points15 points16 points 9 months ago
I remember when I watched a Swedish film, and it finished with an intertitle that translated as "End".
Which meant we saw a giant slut on the screen. Much mirth was had.
[–]mamahani 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
My american cousin did find farthinder rather amusing when she visited us. I didn't even think of the meaning of this word before she mentioned it.
[–]cogiskart 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
I love people who love Sweden. Du får mig att kännas mig stolt över min nationalitet :)
[–]Larbohell 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
My favorite Scandinavian country.
That's quite an offensive statement to us Norwegians. Might want to rephrase it before you insult more bloodthirsty vikings.
[–]Spooooooooooooon 83 points84 points85 points 9 months ago
TIL in Swedish, 'get' means goat.
The english phrase 'get fucked' just got a little more interesting.
[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 9 months ago
Additionally, "fack" - pronounced more or less the same as fuck, means either trade union or category. Therefore, "getfack" is either a union of goats or... a goat category.
[–]xhandler 20 points21 points22 points 9 months ago
Sadly the Swedish "get" is more pronounced like "jet" but with a long e
[–]BeholdMyGlory 50 points51 points52 points 9 months ago
Note that in English, 'j' is often pronounced more like some kind of 'dj' sound. A better approximation would be "yet" with a long e.
[–]englabenny 11 points12 points13 points 9 months ago
something like yeat
[–]ChopToxicity 21 points22 points23 points 9 months ago
It's like saying year-t but without pronouncing the r
[–]Portalgeist 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
And a y instead of a j.
[–]W00ster 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
And so is Jesus so that makes the joke perfectly understandable, Jesus in Swedish sounds like some goat activity!
[–]BellaBlack 3 points4 points5 points 9 months ago
It would also have to be spelled "getfucked" to make sense. "Get fucked" would basically mean "goat: fucked" or something like that (meaning that the current state of the goat is "fucked").
[–]W00ster 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
"get knullad"! (goat fucked)
[–]BBshakenbake 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
getknullad.
[–]decubate 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I vaguely recall some sort of English exercise marketing campaign carried out a few years ago, called "Get fitta". With "fitta" being the Swedish word for "cunt" and "get" having the aforementioned translation, many lols were had.
[–]lepizao 71 points72 points73 points 9 months ago
My 5 y/o daughter came home explaining me what she understood of the teacher's explanation of Easter: "God died, then a rabbit got sad, painted some eggs and god came back to life". My answer to her was: "I find your story easier to believe, so I'm sticking to that sweetheart. Thanks for the lesson".
[–]Senuf 10 points11 points12 points 9 months ago
Does she attend a religious school?
[–]Nictionary 22 points23 points24 points 9 months ago
Even if she didn't, it's common to talk about the stories for Easter and Christmas and such in public school. Not as fact but as "this is the idea behind it" sort of thing, which I don't think is that bad.
[–]lepizao 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
Not really, and the teachers are very clear that I don't want my kids to attend to Religion Class (they receive "Ethics" instead), however, this is Costa Rica and they can't help talking about religion AND/OR trying to celebrate US holidays.
[–]herruhlen 12 points13 points14 points 9 months ago
Not so long ago, that statement would have involved detonating firecrackers as well.
Sadly, the children of today have seemingly lost the fine tradition of badgering your neighbors for candy dressed up as a farmhand on Knut as well. Though they've adapted Halloween, so it evens out. Traditions where you can badger neighbors for candy are sacred in the name of candy.
[–]Fearlessbunny 6 points7 points8 points 9 months ago
Firecrackers on easter is different depending on where you are in the country.
I grew up quite far north in Sweden, not a single soul used firecrackers or rockets on easter, but on 30th of april? (Valborgs) they went mad and exploded ALL the THINGS. Then I moved south were it was the opposite
[–]herruhlen 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
We used to use them for both (Värmland). Usually the whole week before Easter and then one after. My point is that proper firecrackers are now illegal in Sweden.
Firecrackers are traditionally easter though, as they're supposed to spook the witches away. Valborg is more of a firework thing as I've experienced it. Well, that and drinking shitty cider in a forest as a minor.
[–]SCX-Kill 23 points24 points25 points 9 months ago*
If you think that is something, you should see this. Swedes mocking christianity on national TV.

[–]phackzer 11 points12 points13 points 9 months ago
Watch this one instead, it has English subtitles.

Didn't know there was one with subtitles, added that one instead. Thanks
[–]Gaybashingfudgepackr 3 points4 points5 points 9 months ago
Not much, just a bunch of comedians singing that gays are to blame for everything bad.
[–]kravitzz 4 points5 points6 points 9 months ago
...mocking christianity...
[–]Gaybashingfudgepackr 7 points8 points9 points 9 months ago
The homophobia in it, yes.
[–]CeeJayDK 7 points8 points9 points 9 months ago
TIL about easter bitches/hags (påskkärring)
[–]CakeDayScience 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
It's more like easter witches.
[–]getafuckingowl 7 points8 points9 points 9 months ago
All in all, we celebrate it to eat candy and paint eggs that we get from the blue man that lives in the blue house on a hill with his goat, Jesus. And that's why we dress as witches.
[–]Nioxic 3 points4 points5 points 9 months ago
same with christmas in my family. my mom just likes the food we make :b
we never went to a church in our lives
:b
[–]Sentient_Waffle 12 points13 points14 points 9 months ago
So your family are cultural Christians, like most people in Scandinavia.
We still have the holidays, but we have them for traditions sake, not for any religious reasons. Also, who doesn't want some days off once in a while.
If you ask us for our faith, most will probably say non-believer, but there will also be many who say christian, while being non-believers.
Mock God or Jesus, and it's highly likely we'll be right there with you.
[–]Nioxic 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Well .. its not like i can choose to get the day off at christmas..
it just the way it is.
Even if i told my boss I was an atheist, i'd be unable to work :p
If my mum would stop celebrating christmas, i'd not miss it. I dont like the food, i dont like the weather, i dont like the songs, and so on :p i just simply like the family :)
[–]Johwi 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
In case you're wondering why the kid is dressed up, it's an old swedish folklore tradition during easter containing witches. Couldn't find an English explanation, but if someone wants to google translate / look at pictures: http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%A5skk%C3%A4rring
[–]Italian_Barrel_Roll 30 points31 points32 points 9 months ago
Proving once again that Swedes are awesome.
[–]aceist 62 points63 points64 points 9 months ago
I am Swede and I can confirm this.
Everyone in Sweden is literally a scientist and has at least 2 honorary PhDs.
I didn't even know that religion existed before I started browsing /r/atheism. How some people can believe in a Mexican zombie/magician named "Jesus" and keep a straight face is beyond me.
Pro-tip from Sweden: DON'T vote for Rick Santorum, vote for Ron Paul instead.
[–]Bernardito 43 points44 points45 points 9 months ago
That's not a legit pro-tip from Sweden.
Only a true Swede knows that the only man that should become the leader of the free world is Leif "Loket" Olsson.
[–]dumb_elephant 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
He's a former handball referee, game show host, sports journalist, and he clearly gets involved during the holidays. What more can you ask for? #loket2012
[–]Clarke1337 9 points10 points11 points 9 months ago
Loket. <3
[–]Italian_Barrel_Roll 16 points17 points18 points 9 months ago
This is all I need to believe Sweden is an awesome place. Everything you say, real or not, just adds icing on an already overly frosted cake.
[–]learnforthefuture 8 points9 points10 points 9 months ago
lol, I dunno, it seems like a Ron Paul would not be a swede's choice.
[–]unspeakablevice 3 points4 points5 points 9 months ago

lol ronpaul. did everyone forget about vermin supreme?

Bat was a cow goddess in Egyptian mythology depicted as a human face with cow ears and horns. Apis was a god that looked like a bull. These are the gods the jews build the golden calf in the desert while Moses was away. Later christian invented this "Baphomet" in your picture and told people that this is some sort of hell god.
tl;dr: christians hated old nature gods like Bat and created this crap to scare people.
[–]UncleCrassius 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
This conversation took place yesterday between my little brother ( 5 years old) and me. I'm an atheist, we are Icelandic/Norwegian.
Brother: Who created man?
Me: Some people believe man evolved from apes more than a million years ago, others believe he was created by God.
Brother: If God exists, then who created him?
[–]wazzym 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
"Some people believe man evolved from apes"
False Humans didn't evolve from apes; rather, we and apes evolved from a common ancestor who is no longer with us..Science never said humans evolved from apes. Science said that humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor. That makes humans and apes related species. And those who abhor the idea of humans evolving from apes may be even more incensed to learn that we did not evolve from apes, but from a more primitive species.
[–]Tobbeb 8 points9 points10 points 9 months ago
I'm also from sweden and today I saw a kid in the paper who said "I heard jesus was an angel in the sky, but what's he doing there? maybe he's brushing leaves."
[–]Grisepik 6 points7 points8 points 9 months ago
Easter is about how Jesus turns into the Easter Bunny when he gets angry. He tries to see if he can find a way to control the raging spirit that lives inside him. And then he found the cure and he became Santa Claus. True story.

This is why I don't mind celebrating Christmas, because it ends up being more about being with family and getting presents (and I like my presents, bitch).
[–]3oclockinthemorning 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
I live in Ireland, I actually forgot that easter had anything to do religion until yesterday.
[–]Freddie_AppsHero 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Most Easter customs come from Norse/Germanic paganism. Christians can thank me with a nice gift basket.
[–]sweYoda 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Sweden ftw! :D

Easter is one of my favorite pagan holiday.

Here's a full translation:
At the preschool Pysslingen in Upplands Väsby, the kids are preparing for the Easter weekend by dressing up as påskkärringar ('Easter hags', basically witches from this place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockula), playing around with eggs, and painting chickens.
When the kids were asked by Metro to answer some questions about Easter, there were plenty of question marks and even more guesses. - You celebrate Easter so that you get to eat candy. - We celebrate other stuff, so we can celebrate Easter as well. Just with more eggs. - Jesus ? That sounds like a goat.
Blokula is a hill with a blue house were the old blue man lives.
One thing that is certainly true is that the kids love Easter, especially all the pottering around, the candy, and that they get to dress up as påskkärringar.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 9 months ago
I am sorry. But why the fuck are the Swedish people acting like this is something special?
99% of the kids do it for the fucking candy.
[–]ToxicToothpaste 5 points6 points7 points 9 months ago
That kid will be a great redditer one day...

I used to love Sweden because of the swedes I met —cool, nice, friendly, generous, funny, intelligent people—, and some of their music (i.e. Ebba Grön, and Imperiet). And now I have one more reason to love Sweden.

She's dressed up as an easter hag/witch/whatever (påskkärring). It's a tradition. Don't ask why; I couldn't tell you.
[–]Kattborste 10 points11 points12 points 9 months ago*
Here's what I can scrape from the top of my head at least.
The old tale is that the devil would summon witches from all over the country on this night to a place named Blåkulla. They would fly there on what ever they could find be it brooms, sticks, cows or unlucky farmerhands and on the front of her flying whatever there would be a coffepan hanging. Because where else would they put it? After dancing and witching or whatever they did with the devil they would fly back to their homes on the night to the first of May, which turned into one of the reasons many to lit big fires to scare them away on this night. Somewhere it turned into children dressing up as witches equipped with coffecans going around and ask neighbors for candy.
[–]Clarke1337 2 points3 points4 points 9 months ago
Think it's because of the witches that lived on Blåkulla, not sure tho.

"And on the third day he shall rise again but before he shall ascend into heaven he shall dress as a bunny and hide the eggs so that the children may find the eggs. The lord looked upon this and said it is good. Amen"
John 59:20
[–]Kaboose1442 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
This made me lol! Why else to we have easter? TO EAT CANDY! Why do we have x-mas? TO GET PRESENTS! I once had an argument with someone who told me that if i celebrated "CHRISTmas" i am a christian and there is no other reason for celebrating the holiday. I told him to fuck off and stfu cuz i can celebrate a holiday how ever the hell i want. It was hilarious what he was trying to argue about.
[–]TokyoXtreme 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
As a celebration of the vernal equinox, Easter has definitely more to do with eating candy than with some guy with a beard.
[–]PoorlyTimedPhraseGuy 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Ask any 6 year old in my american family. It's all about the sugar.
[–]confuzzledfather 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I just asked my six year old the same thing, she said 'because some people believe God died at Christmas and came back alive at Easter'. I asked the 4 year old the same thing and he said 'because the dog died.'.
[–]urbanturtlefarm 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
I'm now naming our next male goat Jesus. He only get's to hang around ;) for a year before we sacrifice him, then (three days later) he's resurrected as stew.
[–]gjoh 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Actually Easter is the holiday when swedes are consuming more candy than all the other holidays combined.
[–]M002 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
best country for many reasons, this is now one of them.
[–]l34512 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Well, I can say this. When I have kids, I am giving them presents on religious holidays. Actually, most little kids who don't live in "Bible Belt"-esqe areas don't give a SHIT about why they're celebrating. They want candy and presents. Not a Jesus lecture. I might even celebrate Hanukkah too. Because I LOVE chocolate coins.
[–]spiderobert 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
wait... didn't Jesus supposedly die to replace the need to sacrifice goats!?
[–]OscarSlenderman 1 point2 points3 points 9 months ago
Haha My sister (We are swedes) ones thought Jesus was the name of the easterbunny x)

Article roughly translated:
At the pre-school "Pysslingen Vik" in Upplands Vasby, the children are preparing for the easter holiday by dressing up as easter-witches, doing arts and crafts with eggs, and painting chickens. When the children were answering Metros questions about easter, the question marks were plentiful and the guesswork even more so.
"You celebrate easter to get candy."
"We also celebrate other things. So you can celebrate easter, but with eggs."
"Jesus? Sounds like a goat."
Bluehill is a hill that has a blue house on it where a blue man lives.
One thing that is at least certain is that the kids love easter, especially the crafting and candy, and to dress up as witches.
/Your friendly neighborhood Swede.
(This is a rough translation, since it deals with small children some things are translated as they said it, not exactly grammatically correct.)
