I want to believe this!

[–]CardboardHeatshield 211 points212 points ago

You know who else makes up stories? Pixar. And yet we still pay to watch their movies. Shut up and make believe, goddamnit.

[–]MackeySasser 85 points86 points ago

When my girlfriend and I take a walk in our neighborhood, our cat will walk with us to the end of the block (the end of her territory?) then wait for us to return and escort us back home. Not exactly the same, but the behavior is similar.

[–]timconradinc 136 points137 points ago

My parents previous cat would go on walks with them. He'd run fast past them, then lay down and watch them walk past him, and then he'd run fast past them and repeat the cycle.

At some point, his feet would get tired, and my dad would end up carrying him home.

[–]littlelion2k 57 points58 points ago

This story made me really happy for some reason.

[–]camenzie 21 points22 points ago

At dusk, my brothers and I used to go to the golf course across a couple of fields from us and play bootleg golf.

Our cat used to follow us and walk 4 or 5 holes with us. When she got tired she usually started meowing a lot and one of us would carry her between shots. She ALWAYS had to be carried home as she was always to tired to walk

[–]JunkmanJim 2 points3 points ago

Cats are not endurance animals, they do not walk for the lulz.

[–]rikardgladt 1 point2 points ago

When i'm going bed at night i always find myself being watch by a friendly moose standing on random rooftops in my neighbourhood.

[–]lilly1185 47 points48 points ago*

:) That reminds me of a big orange tabby I used to have when I was in high school. He would walk with me to the bus stop, sit and wait with me and I'd wave to him from the window (I was 16...is that normal?). When I got home from school, he'd be waiting at the bus stop to escort me home.

[–]niamhish 10 points11 points ago

My tortie, Fifi (RIP) would meet me at the end of my drive every evening after school. I miss that evil, crazy, beautiful cat.

[–]PotassiumPower 4 points5 points ago

Upvoted for the username... and the cat story.

[–]Yeevee 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, we have a cat that follows us when we go out to walk. She has walked to my grandma's apartment with us and even the bank. If it's out of her area she just waits for us.

[–]Babysealkllr 5 points6 points ago

Warner Brothers did it first. Rita & Runt ... http://imgur.com/IFwuY

Everything you comment sounds so much better with "Liz Lemon," in front.

[–]neoncp 40 points41 points ago

I read this as Morbo

[–]Slammin_sangwhich 5 points6 points ago

Read this as Saumel L. Jackson in to Kill a Mocking bird.

[–]Nasty_Nomad 7 points8 points ago

PAHAHAHAHA I would pay at least $13 to see Gregory Peck & Samuel L. Jackson have a staring contest in a courtroom.

[–]blew_nitro 8 points9 points ago

So do I, this is the story for this picture from now on, in my mind.

[–]Hoboraptor 7 points8 points ago

Wether natural of fake, great boobs are great boobs. Same goes for cute pictures, I don't care if this is real just let me feel those stories! I mean hear the story

[–]down_vote_magnet 13 points14 points ago

I dunno man... the magic dies for me as soon as I find out they're fake. Boobs, I mean.

[–]GoosieLoosie 2 points3 points ago

It's true! I saw it on the internet!

[–]AliceSin 290 points291 points ago

My friend in high school had an elderly Dad (in his 70s). He wanted to live long enough to see her get married, so he would take care of himself by walking every day. Her childhood cat was getting on in years too, but, still enjoyed going outside for a little bit in the afternoons.

One day, during his daily stroll, the Dad saw the cat slinking along behind him out of the corner of his eye. The old cat normally didn't wander far from the house. But, there she was, following along. Sometimes she would get distracted and launch herself into a neighbor's bush, or take off after bird in the meadow across the street. But she quickly caught up and returned home with him at the end of his walk.

And so she became his daily companion. She didn't walk along side him like a dog, but sort of prowled around here and there, exploring and hunting as he went along, and then zooming to meet him for a rub around his ankles and some petting. She always joined him for a nap in the lounge chair after they got home.

Every day on the bus, I would see her Dad shuffling along in his arthritic walk. And most days I would spot a little gray tiger cat somewhere nearby.

The kitty lived another few years and passed away. The Dad, heartbroken, never got another. But, he did live to walk my friend down the aisle three years ago, when he was 88. Her parents sold their house just last summer and moved in with my friend and her husband. They live by the beach, and at 91 he still walks to the beach and back every day.

[–]ofthe5thkind 68 points69 points ago

Great story, and I used to have a cat that would do this exact thing. He was a Maine Coon, and whenever I'd walk the dog, he'd come with us and do the hunt/prowl bit the entire way.

[–]AliceSin 24 points25 points ago

Aw, every so often I hear about another "walking" cat. And Maine Coons are awesome!

[–]Balzac_Onyerchin 22 points23 points ago

Yes they are... they don't act like other cats (not that there's anything wrong with other cats; I just have a preference). Here are mine - they are brothers:

[–]AeroCrazed92 23 points24 points ago

I have a Maine Coon as well. He's insanely smart and social. Here's a picture of him hanging out watching tv:

http://i.imgur.com/ylXm2.jpg

[–]intheballpark 10 points11 points ago

do you call him Garfield?

[–]AeroCrazed92 1 point2 points ago

You'd think we would judging by how he likes to sit. His name's Miesha (mee-sha)....He was a stray and would hang out around my Nonna's house and she would call him that (Apparently it mean's something like "kitty" in the part of Italy that she is from). Well, we all thought he was a girl when we brought him in and couldn't agree on a different name so we decided Miesha was feminine enough and it stuck. A trip to the vet later and we were told that she was actually a he.

[–]schizocat 1 point2 points ago

I used to have an orange cat when I was a teenager whose name when we got him was Daisy. We never changed it. I have an orange maine coon now. Her name is Fido.

[–]AliceSin 13 points14 points ago

Cute! I like the half-beard guy. I bet they get into all sorts of trouble together!

[–]sexbread 8 points9 points ago

HAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLFFFFFF BEEEEEAAAAARRRRRRD!!!!

[–]Gnardog 5 points6 points ago

In what ways do they act differently? I've heard several people say this, and I'm curious.

[–]willies_hat 10 points11 points ago

I had a 22 pound Norwegian Forest Cat (not an ounce of fat on him) and it is believed that the Maine Coon is a decedent of these nearly wild bastards. They are larger and more "doglike" then most cats I've known. They get along well with most animals and are unbelievable hunters. I walked with my NFC "William of Orange" every day, and there were many winter nights that he would beg to go out into the -30 weather to hunt, and wouldn't return for days. The "Forest Cat" breeds are more independent in a "real" way, not simply aloof, they can actually survive on their own. I wish I'd had a video camera when he lived with me, this is a pretty good representation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Mj2RIpbU8o

[–]marinz 1 point2 points ago

Here is my enormous Norwegian, Barnacle He "hunts" a stuffed animal from my little brother's room every night and brings it to my mom! :D

[–]ShadowCutter 1 point2 points ago

Mine would drink water with his paw (dip it in, lick it off, both from his bowl and from the faucet). I've heard that's a "Maine coon thing".

[–]mitten-troll 36 points37 points ago

We took in a stray Maine Coon cat. Poor thing was declawed in the front, neutered and had all his shots, but then someone just dumped him in our neighborhood. No one claimed him, so he became ours. Once, an ex-boyfriend called my phone and left a message... and I was really upset by it. I sat on my couch and cried a little. My cat, who never really sat on laps or anything, came up, put his paw on my leg, then curled up next to me on the couch. I felt so loved.

[–]arcterex 22 points23 points ago

That's because cats are awesome.

[–]SpecialOops 20 points21 points ago

when they want to be.

[–]AliceSin 4 points5 points ago

What a sweet story!

[–]Megustatits 1 point2 points ago

I have a Maine Coone since she was a kitten she's been very much to herself and is the most boring cat I've ever had. I guess I got the runt of the litter or something?

[–]rentedtritium 7 points8 points ago

Yeah, that's atypical. Maine Coons are known for their social behavior.

[–]Megustatits 6 points7 points ago

I always say if a cat could be autistic..she would be...

[–]ShadowCutter 1 point2 points ago

My first one was normal but the second one was totally afraid of everything (ceiling fans, the laundry room, random noises and movements) and just hid out in the garage all the time.

[–]vengeful_hamster 2 points3 points ago

Did you not play with her? I find many cats that are boring were made so by not being played with as much. Mine was played with a ton when I was growing up and as a result he had a strong personality and remained playful for most of his life. However since I've gone to college my dad and his boyfriend don't play with my cat and over the last few years he's become boring.

[–]Megustatits 1 point2 points ago

I tried, she wasn't interested. She just sits around and is boring. When I call her she doesn't come...she only notices I'm worth anything to her when I give her treats...that's when she meows and rubs herself on my leg. My other cats are great and affectionate and playful....maybe it is just a dominance thing? She was the last cat to come in the house...I forgot to mention that.

[–]Armagetiton 6 points7 points ago

Every time I hear "Maine Coon" I think about the time Blizzard removed them from WoW because someone complained that the name was racist :(

[–]NinjaAssassinKitty 18 points19 points ago

I'm so glad this story had a happy ending.

ONIONS T__T

[–]redrumrumred 16 points17 points ago

Every night my dad used to round up our 3 cats for the nightly walk and they would all follow him in that same way. Sort of trailing behind, doing their own things, but still following. All of those cats have passed away now (they were old, Emily lived to be 21 though) but I'll always remember how special those walks were.

[–]DeusFerreus 11 points12 points ago*

The fact that he was in his 70s and had daughter in high school means is he quite a virile old bugger, no wonder he still is lively in his 90s.

[–]Bobius 3 points4 points ago

I had a cat who'd follow me almost half way to school every day. It's adorable.

[–]Madasterd 4 points5 points ago

here, take my upvote you asshole

[–]jjwood84 4 points5 points ago

What an awesome story. Thanks for sharing!

[–]vinfx 1 point2 points ago

They key to growing old is don't stop moving.

[–]TallSprite 1 point2 points ago

My dad's cat used to meet him at the bus stop and race him home. My dad was about 9 or 10 at the time. He was always really fast (A sprinter later on) so when it looked like he was winning the cat would race across yards with dogs in them. He said it was hilarious watching the dogs launch themselves to their feet and bark once and have a slight whiplash thing going on. He never won the race though. He says it's because cats are cheaters :)

[–]AliceSin 1 point2 points ago

That's a great story about the kitty zipping through dog yards! ahaha! Total cheater.

[–]monkeymule 1 point2 points ago

I used to have a cat that would do the same thing when we walked our dog.

At first we thought he was just following us so we would let him inside when we got back, but that theory fell off because half the time he did not want to come inside. I think he just enjoyed tagging along.

[–]Grossly_Overrated 3 points4 points ago

Possibly a less touching story, but where I used to live a cat would often sit across the road from a shop. Just sitting and waiting, staring at the door. I would frequently see it but I'd go off and do something else, come back and it would be gone. This went on for about 5 years.

Turns out it would accompanying its owner (in the same way about 10-20 paces behind) on their walk down to pick up the milk.

No reflection on your friends Dad, but you would be hard pushed to find a closer resemblance to the crazy cat lady from The Simpsons.

Edit. I take that back, cat lady lived in our building, this was a different woman.

"You've got a friend in me"

[–]Paul-ish 2 points3 points ago

as a kid I always heard "You got a friend in need". it totally changed the tone.

[–]Radico87 5 points6 points ago

Oh, to be so alone that "friend" is both singular and plural.

[–]meliaesc 10 points11 points ago

why make this about you? can't be happy for this adorable pair instead?

[–]curbstickle 5 points6 points ago

And now you know why he has no friends.

[–]jdk 1 point2 points ago

Do what the cat does: a dog will always be your friend.

[–]Mattyice318 30 points31 points ago

At least my heart doesn't think it's fake

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

Does it really matter if the story is entirely true? We can still take away valuable lessons from this picture.. love, friendship... they are probably the most important things in life!

[–]whatwouldredditsay 1 point2 points ago

Or is the dog the cat's pimp?

Where is your god now?

[–]Blitzwire 9 points10 points ago

SirDog: "Good, Sir Cat. I'm glad you have come at the appointed time"

SirCat: "Indeed, Sir Dog. Let us continue our discussion of diplomacy between cats and dogs"

[–]DrDragun 58 points59 points ago*

Cats don't have buddies. We manipulate the lesser races into servitude by playing on their loyalty and enthusiasm. A canine bodyguard can be handy on these hard streets. Their claws are useless and they cannot help on the rooftops or in the trees, but they can tank a lot of damage and their vacant, blundering relentlessness can inspire fear in my rivals on the ground level. And if you don't rule the ground level, you aint nobody here.

[–]DrDragun 12 points13 points ago

To leave that apostrophe or to edit and gain an asterisk... dear god what do I do?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Don't ruin that post with an asterisk. It was so good I had forgotten your mistake by the end.

[–]xjwowx 7 points8 points ago

lol cats...always 2 steps ahead of everyone.

[–]thinksits4chan 26 points27 points ago

This further proves my theory that all cats are girls and all dogs are boys.

[–]choupy 7 points8 points ago

My cat's a boy and my dog is a girl. They are friends but the female dog humps the shit out of the cat sometimes o_O

[–]kazin420 2 points3 points ago

"She" waits for "him" because all cats are girls and all dogs are guys amirite?!

[–]myredditlogintoo 1 point2 points ago

My cat will walk with me or other family members, but when we get to our gate (we live on a farm) she lays down and won't go any farther. So we end up carrying her back, or going back for her later. She will sit there all day.

My dog and cat (both female) go for a walk around the yard every evening just before dark. The strange thing is we have two male cats which are the offspring of the female and she has absolutely zero to do with them. She acts like she doesn't even like them, but contstantly hangs out with the dog who acts as her personal body guard.

Dogs don't normally walk with cats. And they remind me of a real life Todd & Copper. Fox & Hound.
