Well that sure doesn't take into account so many important things about both crimes that make them way way way different. For instance, the fact that women are overwhelmingly often the victims of rape and that it is an experience that heterosexual cisgender men outside of the American prison system almost never have to worry about. It has to do with privilege, an established sociological concept that the teenage boys of reddit tend to write off as nonsense because they see SRS using the term which completely invalidates it in their eyes. Definitely seems out of character considering how much redditors tend to view themselves as rational, logical, scientific people, but whatever.

And yes I know that men do get raped outside of the American prison system and when it happens it is a hugely terrible thing, but the fact that women are seriously getting raped all the fucking time and gross sweaty nerds on reddit are joking about it like "LOL! SOMETHING THAT I WILL NEVER HAVE TO FEAR IN MY LIFE!" is really gross and dehumanizing. Making a joke about murder can certainly be in poor taste or it could be pretty funny, but it doesn't carry the same inherent weight that rape does.
