Doesn't seem like they enforce this very often/very quickly.

I suppose we're all fairly entrenched in our ways, though. It does have almost 700 upvotes.

Comparing a cubicle job to having your skull smashed by a metal rod, having your foot clamped in sharp metal or being slowly digested alive seems just a tiny bit sensationalist.

[–]ForeverAProletariat 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Cubicle job is 5 days every week for most of your adult life.

[–]TheLazyRebel 4 points5 points ago

Yes, life long torture is much worse.

[–]Tofusteak 2 points3 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

After working in a movie theater, I really want a cubicle job. Get off around 5 instead of midnight. Won't have to deal with the general public. Weekends off. Sure it might be soul crushing but I think it might be worse watching groups of friends having fun friday and saturday nights while I clean nacho cheese off the floor.

[–]holger-danske 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

that cubicle job provides many benefits like income (so you can survive) and health insurance. What benefit does a bear derive from being caught in a leg trap?

willingly exchanging your work for money isn't remotely analogous to an animal being caught in a trap.

[–]ForeverAProletariat -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

you use two random criteria to judge the similarity between working in a cubicle and being caught in a bear trap. why? that's like saying bananas and tomatoes aren't remotely similar because bananas are (usually) yellow and tomatoes are (usually) red.

[–]holger-danske 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

you use two random criteria

Incorrect. The criteria I selected were the benefits of each. They were not random.

One benefit I neglected to mention was that the cubicle farmer can flip his desk and walk out any time he wants. Animals in a trap cannot.

You, on the other hand, used a completely random statement to try to prove a false analogy and failed miserably.

[–]ForeverAProletariat -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Walk out and what? Try to get a construction job or not have a job at all?

fail.

[–]holger-danske -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yes, you did indeed fail again.

A cubicle job offers payment in exchange for your services. You voluntarily enter into that agreement and there is no "trap" once you arrive. You can leave any time and another cubicle farmer will take your place.

Your job prospects after that are your own business. You are free to succeed or fail, but the important point is that you are indeed free the entire time. Unlike the animals who are tricked into taking bait and captured.

[–]ForeverAProletariat -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Random criteria fail.

[–]sonicon -5 points-4 points ago

Income you need because the cubicle buildings replaced the free vegetation/land that your great ancestors lived off of and health insurance for sitting on your ass doing cubicle stuff and buying processed food to eat.

The entire "Office work being a dead end" is a Hollywood idea because filmmakers don't want to work in an office and they write the movies. The reality is that people that work in offices are statistically pretty happy where they are. I want to make films someday, but I currently have an office job and I really like it.

[–]GeneralWarts 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'd like to see any of those traps provide their victims with a steady income.

Oh wait, that's just another name for bait. As we slowly wither away and die.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You die a lot faster if you don't have income. And it's not your job's fault you're "whithering away". That's all you.

Most of us find happiness just fine while working, as opposed to... well, however the fuck you think you provide for yourself if not by working.

[–]GeneralWarts 0 points1 point ago

It was a comic relating a cubicle to being a deadly trap. I like going along with the joke instead of being a melvin. I also posted the first comment so I wasn't aware reddit was going to get all serious up in here.

I happen to enjoy my job and the moment I don't I'll find something else.

[–]djdementia 1 point2 points ago

It's a great comic, printed up and taped to the door of my office.

I'm not sure what the link is directly to the comic but the source is Buttersafe

Oh look. It's a thread full of whiny 20-somethings who are shocked that being an adult means working, and can't comprehend how to have a fulfilling life unless they're allowed to do whatever they want 24-7.

Welcome to adult hood. Grow the fuck up and realize there's more to life than sitting around smoking pot and drinking with your buddies.

like spending 8 hours a day working a job that feels like a death sentence? Your entire life gets structured around your job. I understand that a job is necessary in this current paradigm to support your self in the "real world". That doesn't mean I can't have criticisms of what the "real world" actually is. If in order to live a fulfilling life I absolutely MUST work a job like this 5 days a week then sorry but I don't find that life fulfilling at all. Life is more like a musical thing, and you're supposed to dance while the music is playing. That's just my view. I fully intend to get a job like this in the future (I scrub dishes and make sandwiches atm), but that doesn't mean I should be looked down on for complaining about something I have no control over. It's really frustrating.

Its like post Buttersafe day today or something. This is the second one ive seen on the front page. Not that I mind, just interesting. I'd love it if I just got free money instead, but alas.

Also, get a better/funner job if it feels like a trap to you. Not a snide remark, just a word of advice. You don't have to work mindless cubicle jobs, just as you don't have to flip burgers.

[–]Thefinalwerd 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Cause they are just giving away jobs nowadays....

If I had to guess most people don't stay in their "mindless cubicle jobs" or flipping burgers by choice.

[–]DarQraven -1 points0 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think you'd be surprised how many people stay in those jobs because they can't be arsed to change anything about it or are afraid of change.

There is no reason why another person can get a good job and you can't unless that other person is more qualified than you. In which case, the solution seems clear, no? Improve at your craft at whatever cost (shitty low-level job but with relevant experience, additional education, self study, home projects, whatever...)

[–]Thefinalwerd 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yea most people are scared of change and why shouldn't they be? Most people do not want to give up that job for the chance of maybe getting a better one. What happens when they leave their job and can't find another one? That's a pretty good reason to be scared, unemployment with bills.

Bills aren't going to wait around while you are improving your craft at whatever cost.

I don't leave my job because my wife is in law school and I can't afford a lapse in income or medical insurance. Once she graduates and gets a job, the world will be my buttered oyster, ready for the shucking.

First, those flowers are full of sweet nectar (if you were a fly you would love to lick on that shit). Second, mice don't have cut-out holes in walls as a home. third, hunters hide those traps really well (they mark them out on maps so they won't loose a foot). I hate it when my foot gets loose. It gets all wibbly wobbly and makes it hard to walk. When my right foot starts to get loose, I know it's time to go in for a tightening and maybe a foot rotation if the treads are wearing unevenly because the left one will be getting loose quickly after that.
