Another interpretation is the other three were all watching their backs, while Lincoln was looking forward, which is why he missed the guy behind him.

[–]imthefooI 10 points11 points ago

Sorry, but their*. :\

[–]ReyTheRed -3 points-2 points ago

True story.

[–]evileeyore -1 points0 points ago

always .. too late the game.

[–]Leonarthius 40 points41 points ago

According to Nintendo Logic... Lincoln is facing forward. Your argument is invalid.

[–]schiller 8 points9 points ago

Yes. When did left become forward?

[–]GerMachineGun 42 points43 points ago

You always move right to advance so Lincoln is facing forward and everyone else is backwards. Your joke is invalid.

[–]Kevin_Wolf 4 points5 points ago

Wait... Don't you move to the left to advance in Monopoly?

[–]meeu 9 points10 points ago

you move clockwise, which is right at the top of the board

[–]Iamthesmartest -5 points-4 points ago

Unless you're from China.

[–]av4rice 18 points19 points ago

Good point. I always forget that the founding fathers were Chinese.

[–]Saint-Peer 1 point2 points ago

In the western culture, right means to go forward, or advance. In the eastern culture, it would be up/down instead of left/right.

[–]Iamthesmartest -1 points0 points ago

They were man. Chinese Reptilian Overlords from the Center of the Earth that were also Druid Vampires.

[–]Billy_Reuben 8 points9 points ago

I'm from Texas, and the way you tell it is much better than the way I first heard that joke about 20 years ago.

[–]DarthJessinator 3 points4 points ago

now you have to share.

[–]L0stm4n 15 points16 points ago

I heard it as "You'd turn your back on the guy who freed the niggers too! HEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAW!" banjo music

[–]BinaryMagick 5 points6 points ago

"He freed the slaves, so they turned their backs on one of their own".

Damn. I'm really glad I heard it that way and not the way you did.

[–]JesterAzazel 0 points1 point ago

I hear it a different way depending on the number of teeth they still have. L0st's was about a five, yours is a full set.

[–]qwerter 1 point2 points ago

I read that in David Cross's voice.

[–]JesterAzazel 6 points7 points ago

I'm from West Virginia and I heard it that way too if it's the one I'm thinking of. All I'm saying is that it was racist.

[–]Domesticdstrbnc 2 points3 points ago

Being from South Carolina I can confirm it is in fact really really racist.

[–]Miss_Tress 2 points3 points ago

Husband is from Alabama so I know what you guys are talking about.

[–]joshharris1234 6 points7 points ago

i would say that lincoln is looking forward. and as you would know from his political standing he was looking towards the future while many other presidents were looking towards history.

[–]EAT_SANDWISH 3 points4 points ago

Also the only President to appear on BOTH SIDES of a coin.

[–]starmartyr 1 point2 points ago

Technically it's a statue of Lincoln on the back. I'm not sure if that counts.

[–]the2belo[!] 2 points3 points ago

It's a representation of a representation.

L I N C O L N C E P T I O N oh never mind, I'll see myself out.

[–]StatesReasonForVote 5 points6 points ago

I am downvoting this post because I would have assumed that Lincoln was the only one looking forward. Being raised in an occidental society, I generally assume "left to right" is forward, and "right to left" is backwards.

[–]PotatoDonki 2 points3 points ago

Who says that the direction they're facing is forward?

[–]StoicAthos 2 points3 points ago

This is like the 7th time this was reposted

[–]devourke 5 points6 points ago

The three silver coins look like a Human Centipede

[–]EDosed 0 points1 point ago

Shudder

[–]Andrizzleton 1 point2 points ago

[–]Noel_S_Jytemotiv 1 point2 points ago

?

Forward relative to what?

[–]Nesqwix 1 point2 points ago

re post

[–]dazwah 1 point2 points ago

Which way is Kennedy facing on the $.50 coin? Back and to the left?

[–]Digipy 1 point2 points ago

In England each monarch alternates the way they face.

[–]panders2reddit 1 point2 points ago

Western = facing right = forward. Sorry, downvoted.

[–]TRUEstoner 1 point2 points ago

The penny is Brown because Lincoln freed the slaves and he faces the opposite way as the other coins to symbolize that his views were the opposite of many at the time

[–]Bad_Grammer_Girl 1 point2 points ago

Too soon?

[–]The-Truth-hurts- 1 point2 points ago

Haha i was going to write that, but had to double check to see if anyone else did... check mate heres an Upvote

[–]Hayden1911 1 point2 points ago

This shit isn't funny.

[–]iSmoch 1 point2 points ago

The direction he's facing isn't wrong, it's just different from other coins because the images were taken from famous portraits so each coin reflects the direction that the original artist chose.

Look at the new nickels and dollars: Jefferson is facing forward on the nickel, Sacagawea is looking over her shoulder on the dollar, and Washington is looking forward on the Presidential dollar. It's all a matter of artistic choice.

[–]kh9228 1 point2 points ago

reeeeepppppoooooosssssttttttt

[–]nickfreeman 2 points3 points ago

How do you know that Lincoln isn't facing forward...and the other three are looking behind them. Hence how he was shot in the back.

[–]AllDizzle 1 point2 points ago

I would say they're all looking backwards, since we read right to left it's been made made a common theme in things (take 2d side scrollers) that right is forward and left is backwards.

[–]stfm 0 points1 point ago

Left is traditionally backwards

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I can't up vote this enough! Very few remarks have the ability to make me laugh out loud like an idiot when I am alone in my room...

[–]Demonstrate 0 points1 point ago

reads My life... Will never... Be the same.

[–]starmartyr 0 points1 point ago

Why the fuck is Steven Segal on the one next to Lincoln?

[–]CrazyCarlx2 0 points1 point ago

Actually I'm pretty sure they made him face the other way back then because they felt he was a traitor because he freed the slaves.

[–]fckswithnutterbutter 0 points1 point ago

Why is left arbitrarily forward?

[–]zombiemonkee 0 points1 point ago

I say they are all turning their backs on the man who freed the slaves.

[–]Longjohn_Server 0 points1 point ago

At least you have different people on your money, all we Canadians have is the queen. I should mention that she is always facing the same direction as Lincoln. My opinion is that in America everyone is backwards except for good old Abe.

[–]eisexactly2 0 points1 point ago

It always bothered me that the dime is not bigger than the nickel in diameter.

[–]TheOneBritishGuy 0 points1 point ago

It's impossible to not be looking forward. Where you are looking is always forward. Should be All the others are looking left and he is looking right.

And personally, I would say Lincoln, looking right, is the one looking forward. The others are looking back. Have you ever seen side-scrollers?!

[–]ThaDeadGuy 0 points1 point ago

See I really don't care because: 1. I have seen this everywhere (Literally) And 2. Because I am a supporter of getting rid of the penny... Maybe the Nickel too

[–]Vancer08 0 points1 point ago

Who is to say which direction is forward? All depends where you are headed my friend.

[–]Mrthatoneguy 0 points1 point ago

How do we know they're facing forward, all we can say is they're facing left or right

[–]GoochyBandana 0 points1 point ago

who says they are facing forward? here in merka, shit always goes left to right. Lincoln is facing forward, all the other prezzes were assholes, not giving abe the heads up.

[–]GitEmSteveDave 0 points1 point ago

IIRC, when a new portrait/subject is done for a particular piece of coinage, they alternate the direction. There was a penny before Lincoln's, and in that one, the subject was facing left.

[–]munge_me_not 0 points1 point ago

[–]420foy 0 points1 point ago

Since when is 'left' considered 'forward'...?
