Kind of like what happened here, except the man was innocent and became a barely functioning quadriplegic. Here is the follow up.

Oh my god, the police wonder why so many people hate them.

I have some friends who are cops...they tell me some stories, from my understanding every cop abuses their power in some way or form at some time.

I mean we are all human and everyone uses certain things to their advantage, but cops need to realize that the suspects (who aren't always criminals) are human too.

Even though it is no way equal to becoming a quadriplegic, I hope that guy received a shit ton of money, and the cop was punished severely.

[–]farfigneugan 18 points19 points ago

If you'd clicked the link you'd know that the cop wasn't punished severely. Most people don't even have to click the link and already know that.

[–]jonkoeson 66 points67 points ago

[–]LerithXanatos 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Now that's what I'm saying. A ton of excessive force used by cops seemed to be caused by them fearing for their own safety when a situation can diffused with less force or without resulting in a killing.

[–]UHaveNoPowerOverMe 15 points16 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

[–]BGYeti 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You mean the one where the guy did not go down after being tasered and was about to go after a cop with what was it again a sledgehammer? ya that shooting was totally unjustified and could have been diffused... other than that ya this one was above and beyond a misuse of power and the guy should be fired.

[–]LerithXanatos 0 points1 point ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm pretty sure there was no reason to shoot 6 times. IIRC he went down after the first shot. You can see him continuing firing even when he was on the ground.

Hahah trying to say it might have been a justifiable use of force, and then saying even though she was walking away doesn't mean she wasn't a threat, that just gets sad, last time i checked people walking away are not a threat.

[–]IAm-Not-A-Clever-Man 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Quote from youtube "She was intoxicated. She assaulted a school teacher. She punched her mother. She was told to stop by a police officer and didn't comply. Thing is, this girl has received too few slaps in her life and it's exactly the reason why she thinks she can do anything and get away with it. I am glad the cop showed her some respect. You punched your mother on the face? That's what you get."

And I actually think that girl deserved it. Ive seen people that have always gotten their way and they turn into crappy assholes that don't give anyone respect.

This happened in Phoenix, Arizona, about 45 minutes away from where I live unfortunately. Girl got drunk at school and was passing alcohol to other students, and the school called the police and her mother. The girl got into a fight with her mother and after breaking free from her mother's grip by hitting her, began to walk away. Cops tackles her and smashes her face into the wall. Oh, and she was 15.

[–]aweeleprechan 18 points19 points ago

He was in a coma for 2 years. Still can't talk, walk, or even eat, by himself; his wife has to do everything for him. The sheriff's department paid him and his wife a $10mil settlement.

The deputy who effectively ended the dudes life is, as far as I find, still on the force and has been involved in at least 6 incidents of excessive force, including one a year after that video in which he rammed a passerby's face into the ground for having the gall to a)film him (and another deputy) involved in some sort of verbal dispute with 2 people at a bus stop and b)flip him off after being yelled at by the deputy. Filming him, by the way, is a protected form of free speech. As for the middle finger, I don't know the law in King County or Washington state, but I think we can all agree tackling someone and smashing their face into the ground with enough force to break their nose is beyond the pale for anyone, cop or not.

Here's a tip: If it exists on the internet, is not a current news story, and you did not create it... you are almost certainly re-posting it. Consider the content: the cooler you think it is, the more likely it's reposted frequently. Now consider how you found it. Did you discover it all on your own via google, web surfing, and following interesting links? Or did you find it through friends on facebook or a similar site? Because if it's the former, maybe it doesn't get re-posted all that often. But if it's the latter... Hell, they probably found it on Reddit earlier that day.

Story

He said the girl was taken to the school's office and that she pushed a male teacher and stormed out, causing her mother to follow her and try to hold her down until police arrived.

The girl, who Crump said was uninjured, was charged in juvenile court with one count each of aggravated assault for pushing the teacher, domestic violence assault for punching her mother and threatening and intimidation for later telling the officers that she would kill them and their families.

Just a quote from the article. Not saying that it was justified, just more in depth than the video.

Why does everyone say that? Do you honestly think that's a paid vacation? It bothers me so much that every idiot thinks "paid leave" is just a reward for fucking up.

If you're charged with a crime your boss doesn't just immediately fire you, why would a police officer charged with a crime be any different? Obviously it's inappropriate for a police officer who is under review to be out on the street. So they have to take them off duty, but how is it fair to just cut them, and their family off from a source of income before they're even convicted of anything? If nothing happens there goes a whole month of pay checks for nothing. Who knows how many late fees, and other penalties they've gotten for not being able to pay their bills. Some people might end up without a house.

The only appropriate thing to do is keep paying them while they are being investigated.

Not working... but getting paid. Sounds just like a vacation.

Paid leave is not an vacation. They still have to follow protocol with an investigation.

Violence happens all the time. The police should not engage in any kind of reactionary violence. That is just how the juridicial system is supposed to work.

Agreed. As a member of the forensics field, I have a good relationship with cops. I feel like cops are my cool cousin that had sex when they were 15 and I'm like a 13 year old nerd and I'm like "He's so cool, I'm totally gonna get laid soon like him!" But then ended up being a virgin til I was 27 and going into forensics and then sex cousin couldn't get a high-paying job like he wanted so he became a cop but dammit he's still cool, and I respect him and stuff. It's like that kind of relationship I guess. Respect for the guy who does awesome stuff. Not all cops though, some are just assholes

[–]JesterAzazel 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That was oddly specific.

I don't know many cops personally. I see them as regular people, because even among regular people there are going to be good and bad.

I thought about being a cop but I figured I won't like some of the things that come with the job. Mostly being hated by everyone and having to arrest people over weed, but there are other things.

Also, it's awesome that you're in forensics.

But from the context of the image alone we don't even know what happened. She could have been a random person just walking, or she could have just stabbed her boyfriend in the stomach.

Either way, she didn't pose a threat at the moment and the force was completely unreasonable.

There's got to be some kind of rule that reposts are acceptable after a certain time. Like 6 months. There's lots of people who might not have seen it the first time.

Man,, is she like 90 pounds? It's illegal for the police to tackle unarmed people to the head or throat in my country, especially blind sided into a wall (and her head hits the side walk afterwards). I believe this guy would be in serious risk of losing his job around here.

original Full Youtube clip, including the mom holding her down.

Top comment: She was intoxicated.

Hair, too. It's a well known fact that 74% of people with hair will commit a violent crime at least 3 times a day.

Maybe the cop saw her hitting her mom and got mad. I'm not saying he did the right thing, but a 15 year old girl throwing away a pricey private education and drunkenly boxing her mom on the sidewalk would make me pretty mad.

If I was a cop and I saw a chick like that I'd be thinking "Please give me an excuse..."

Obviously when she reached into her shirt that would be my opening. "Holy shit, she's probably grabbing a gun, time to plow her self-righteous ass into the pavement!"

Then I'd go home and have the best night of sleep ever.
