Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I'm 94% sure this dog lives a better life than I do.

[–]kewidogg 35 points36 points ago

Thanks, I needed that on a Monday.

[–]MacMcIrish 4 points5 points ago

Sounds like you have a case of the Mondays!

[–]bigsrg 2 points3 points ago

You get your ass kicked at my work for saying that.

[–]neurofuzz 13 points14 points ago

100% sure here.

[–]shamblingman 6 points7 points ago

depends on what you consider nice. that's Sapa in Vietnam. I visited recently. It's beyond beautiful. The hill people of Vietnam live there. it's also dreadfully poor. the beer at the pub was $0.25 in US money. i basically kept buying rounds for the entire bar all night. most popular guy in the village.

if you want to live a farmer's life, dreadfully poor, but in a beautiful natural environment, then that dog's life is awesome.

personally, i preferred Hanoi and Ho Chi Mihn City. I cannot recommend Vietnam enough as a great vacation destination.

[–]bobandgeorge 3 points4 points ago

the beer at the pub was $0.25 in US money. i basically kept buying rounds for the entire bar all night. most popular guy in the village.

That sounds awesome.

[–]shamblingman 1 point2 points ago

Any trip to SE Asia will be filled with moments of awesome. I highly recommend taking a month and visiting.

We had a great guide and 5 of us tipped her $20 each. She burst in tears and said she could finally afford a scooter. Amazing.

[–]bobandgeorge 0 points1 point ago

So I might be able to feel for a little while what Mitt Romney feels everyday?

[–]staticgoat 4 points5 points ago

Based on my experiences traveling, there's a 94% chance that this dog has worms and/or severe constipation

[–]ezra_epwell 8 points9 points ago

Based on my experiences traveling there's a 99.999999% chance that dog has worms. Also, it's probably hairless on the other side.

[–]8_bit_hero 1 point2 points ago

I'm 94% sure this is a Minecraft screenshot.

[–]scgoodolboy 1 point2 points ago

I'm 95% sure that dog has been eaten by now. Since you aren't being picked out of the teeth of cannibals I'd say you got it better.

[–]PretendsToKnowThings 14 points15 points ago

[–]sub_xerox 3 points4 points ago

Cool nonetheless.

[–]greywilson 0 points1 point ago

[–]scumbag-reddit 22 points23 points ago

The level of laziness I possess does not allow me to do that.

[–]lastactioncowboy 4 points5 points ago

fair enough my friend, fair enough

[–]Your_Post_In_Persian 30 points31 points ago

Actually, Google Translate is terrible for Persian. I do all of this by hand with the help of a dictionary.

Oh, and here's your post in Persian:

گه آه مرا

این ساخت نیست. من از گوگل استفاده کردم.

[–]SonOfABiiiitch 5 points6 points ago

Wow, that's surprisingly awesome once you find out the effort you put into it. Are you by chance learning Persian, and this is practice?

[–]Your_Post_In_Persian 8 points9 points ago*

I speak Persian natively and English as my second language. You are almost correct: I made the account to practice and maintain my knowledge, but not necessarily to acquire it.

And here's your post:

باح باح. وقتی در مورد تلاش ترجومی فکر می کنی بیشتر لذت میکنی. ببخشین، ولی داری فارسی یاد می گیری و داری تمرین میکنی؟

[–]JordanBelcher 3 points4 points ago

How do you type all of those words? Do you have a Persian keyboard [?] or something? They seem really complex to me.

[–]Your_Post_In_Persian 22 points23 points ago

Thanks for asking. I am using Google IME which is a great tool. Essentially, you type in what you want to say phonetically in Roman letters, and then it is translated to the equivalent Persian lettering. It's kind of like how Romaji works for typing Japanese in Roman letters.

Of course, I still have to mess around with it a lot to get the correct spelling or the correct word, but other than that it's great. Otherwise, I'd have to use a Persian keyboard for which my WPM (word per minute) is somewhere around 10 or 12, whereas with an English keyboard I have an extremely high WPM.

The Persian language uses the Perso-Arabic script (four more letters than Arabic), where letters represent sounds, and change form depending on where they are in the sentence. For example, the word نان meaning bread consists of three letters: ن ا & ن. As you can see, the ن letter occurs twice and takes a different form at the beginning of the sentence where it is connected to ا than at the end where it is by itself (don't forget that Persian is read right to left).

This makes learning the Persian alphabet a bit more difficult than learning the English language since you have to memorize quite a few shapes. However, it is still a walk in the park compared to learning a mixed-logographic language like Japanese. The upside of this kind of writing is that it makes poetry and calligraphy really interesting and beautiful.

It is also important to note that Persian is an Indo-European language like English. If you were to hear Persian spoken, you could definitely make out a lot of the most common words easily. For example, برادر is pronounced "baradar" which means "brother". In fact, it's probably one of the easier second-languages in the world to learn for an English speaker.

This is your post in Persian:

شما چه جوری داری این کلمه ها می نویسی؟ شما از کیبورد فارسی دارین استفاده می کند؟ به چشم ها من این خیلی يچيده است.

[–]JordanBelcher 4 points5 points ago

Wow- Thanks, even though I'm now more confused than before haha!

[–]Celidonius 1 point2 points ago

What's the difference between Persian and Iranian language?

I'm Assyrian and they both sound alike to me, Persian just a little more flamboyant, with girly-ish accent and sounds.

[–]appers66 2 points3 points ago

For a lot of alphabets, you can change the keyboard language in windows and it types it into the other alphabet, and then you can just use the on-screen keyboard thingy. It's been a lifesaver for me learning Russian.

[–]ILikeLeptons 1 point2 points ago

(if it's anything like arabic, which it looks quite similar to) it's basically like cursive, ie there's a reasonable number of characters but they flow together more than roman characters do.

[–]dualwillard 1 point2 points ago

That's awesome. So how do you pronounce shit in Persian?

[–]Your_Post_In_Persian 1 point2 points ago

How do you pronounce the word "shit"? There are quite a few words for "shit", but the most popular (and my favourite) is "گه", which is pronounced "Goh".

How do you pronounce that sentence I just wrote? I'll type it phonetically:

این خاک پادشاهی من است. : "een xak padeshahy-e man ast." (This land is my empire)

--من شاهنشاه هر کسی و : "man shahanshah-e har kessi va--" (I am the king of kings of every person and--)

زهر مار! سنجاب! : "zahr-e mar! senjab!" (Oh shit! Squirrel!)

This is by no means a full list of how many times this has been on reddit. I think it may be the picture I see the most, at very least 8 or so times in the less than a year I've been on here

[–]SimilarImage 11 points12 points ago

Well, yeah. The work required to find every single occurance of an image on reddit is outside the scope of this project.

[–]MacMcIrish 2 points3 points ago

Do you read every reply you get on here? I'd imagine there would be a quite a bit of repetition.

[–]SimilarImage 6 points7 points ago

I do, in fact, read every reply. Yours is number 1887. The repetition is not so bad.

[–]BobTheSpy 2 points3 points ago

We have already read 1,887 replies, and are becoming exceedingly efficient at it.

[–]Dopethrown 1 point2 points ago

About what percent is people angrily saying "Well I've never seen it!" Because I feel like you get that a lot.

[–]SimilarImage 3 points4 points ago

I haven't had the time to really study the replies, but I'd guess about 7 percent say something like that.

[–]CAPS_LOCK_USERNAME 1 point2 points ago

I am interested in gathering data analytics regarding my account (similar to how you've a number of replies). Have you any advice to offer as to how I can gather/display this data?

[–]SimilarImage 2 points3 points ago

Sure, send me a PM.

[–]Koshatnik 1 point2 points ago

yea i found this picture on reddit about a year ago and had it as my background for about 6 months... and saw it 2 or 3 times within that span alone

[–]TeutonicDisorder -1 points0 points ago

I am glad it got re-posted, I have come to Reddit for longer than a year and never seen it.

This picture is so cool I think it is justifiable if it is re-posted so that new comers/ people who have not seen it get a chance.

[–]smokey44 -5 points-4 points ago

I'm gonna repost the link to this search thing called google in case ppl havent seen it before

[–]raoul_llamas_duke 14 points15 points ago

where was this taken?

[–]elegylegacy 68 points69 points ago

Minecraft.

[–]jackrabt 3 points4 points ago

I was looking for the timeline so I could make a Minecraft 2020 joke, but oh well...

[–]McStrauss 7 points8 points ago

Looks like one of the Longsheng Rice Terraces in Guangxi, China to me. I'm not 100% positive on that, but it looks almost exactly the same as what I saw when I was there.

[–]respite 4 points5 points ago

I was going to say the Banaue Rice Terraces. But definitely rice terraces somewhere.

[–]elicee 2 points3 points ago

My first thought as well, but those houses look way to matched up and orderly. Phils are a bit more colourful.

[–]DragonSpawn 1 point2 points ago

TIL Minecraft terrains look like rice terraces.

[–]highoctanecaffeine 1 point2 points ago

That was my thought as well... if not Longsheng, then you can at least go to Longsheng and see very similar views.

[–]sc2noob100 1 point2 points ago

Looks almost like Peru except for the houses

[–]mkvgtired 1 point2 points ago

I'm really hoping Sapa, Vietnam. It looks very similar, and I'm going there in a couple months.

[–]Geiz 1 point2 points ago

same here, immediately went: "please let this be Sapa"

[–]mkvgtired 2 points3 points ago

When are you going? End of May for me.

[–]Geiz 2 points3 points ago

probably start of 2013, nothing really sure yet though date wise... i'll be in traveling in the neighboring countries from may and onwards also though. enjoy yourself!

[–]mkvgtired 2 points3 points ago

Thanks. Same here.

  • Hanoi/Ha Long and Cat Ba/Sapa

  • Hue and Hoi An

  • HCMC

  • Phnom Penh

  • Siem Reap/Angkor Wat/Misc Temples

  • Bangkok/East Coast of Thailand (prob skip Phuket)

All overland, should be great!

[–]Geiz 2 points3 points ago

aah sweet, kind of same stuff i'll be doing, but i'll first be working on Ko Phi Phi for a diving school for half a year from May and onwards. after that: Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. If you end up on Ko Phi Phi drop me a message, we'll do a beer (or any other drink of choice ;))

[–]JerkyBeef 1 point2 points ago

How come dogs from China don't look different than dogs from Europe?

[–]McStrauss 2 points3 points ago

Why would they?

[–]JerkyBeef 1 point2 points ago

Why do the people look different?

[–]McStrauss 1 point2 points ago

Because they've had tens of thousands of years to evolve separate from African and European peoples. Dogs these days are distributed and bred all around the world. There are, however, some breeds that have evolved in China and do look different, despite being also bred in the U.S. and Europe today. Just do a little reading on the history of the Pekingese.

[–]appers66 1 point2 points ago

Dogs looks different to other dog breeds everywhere. Pugs are a Chinese breed of dog, though, and they look pretty different to most breeds.

[–]gizza 0 points1 point ago

They do. But this dog isn't a Chinese dog. It wouldn't look different in China anymore than a white person going to China would look different when he got there.

[–]alpha69 1 point2 points ago

maybe Longsheng Rice Terraces in China

https://www.google.com/search?q=Longsheng+Rice+Terraces

[–]shamblingman 1 point2 points ago

That place is Sapa in Vietnam.

North of Hanoi. It's where the hill people of Vietnam live. It's beautiful and can be reached by an overnight train from Hanoi. The tour usually includes a one night stay with a host family. Very nice place to visit. In fact, all of Vietnam is beautiful and fun to visit. I've never gone on a vacation and seriously considered moving there permanently until I went to Vietnam.

[–]raoul_llamas_duke 1 point2 points ago

good to know all that, thanks!

[–]Deafseeingeyedog 2 points3 points ago

And Dog said, "let there be Woof"

[–]Galaxey 3 points4 points ago

what kind of dog is that it seems like a mix of something and a german shepard perhaps?

[–]addthebear 2 points3 points ago

I think that it's some kind of blend of dingo actually.

[–]poop-doh_factory 1 point2 points ago

My dog looks very similar and he's German shepherd/collie. The only difference is as he grew he developed a black saddle like a shepherd

[–]rantifarian 1 point2 points ago

It looks like the dogs that were everywhere in vietnam, just the local mutt breed I would guess.

[–]Castit 7 points8 points ago

Where is that? I really wanna go there and breathe that air.

[–]InvalidWhistle 5 points6 points ago

I wanna bathe in that air.

[–]muppethead 5 points6 points ago

I wanna eat that dog.

uh.. this is Korea, right guys? ....right guys?

[–]InvalidWhistle 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, it's the north one. Why?

[–]1CUpboat 3 points4 points ago

you'll soon be banned from r/pyongyang

[–]guyal 4 points5 points ago

Somewhere in minecraft.

[–]shamblingman 2 points3 points ago

Sapa Vietnam. it's beautiful there. The people are amazing. it's also dreadfully poor. great place to visit.

[–]Triviaandwordplay 1 point2 points ago

Not when they're burning the straw you don't.

[–]erkose 6 points7 points ago

[–]ezra_epwell 4 points5 points ago

I'm going to guess Sapa, Vietnam.

And in regards to that dog leading a good life...no, it just has a nice view.

[–]tool_fool 1 point2 points ago

I came here to say this..I've been there it's amazing

[–]happytoreadreddit 3 points4 points ago

[–]greenfarmer 1 point2 points ago

what kind of dog is this?

[–]its-the-new-style 21 points22 points ago

brown

[–]drewbeh 3 points4 points ago

This is indeed a Korean Jindo, very rare/nonexistent in America as the Koreans take pride in their exclusive breed, and shipping/taking them out of the country is against the law.

[–]greenfarmer 1 point2 points ago

thanks!

[–]SeraphicRage 4 points5 points ago

Shiba Inu I'm fairly certain

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points ago

Might be too big for that. Maybe a Korean Jindo?

[–]SeraphicRage 2 points3 points ago

True, I'm having a hard time establishing size perspective in this photo. Also, it looks slimmer than the typical Shiba. I'm feeling too lazy to actually Sherlock the dog breed from this photo to be completely honest...

[–]nadipity 2 points3 points ago

That isn't a Shiba Inu snout/muzzle. Might be a mix though.

[–]SeraphicRage 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The ears though... THE EARS...

[–]IceBlue 3 points4 points ago

Looks like an Akita.

[–]niako 1 point2 points ago

Akita Inus are stockier/bigger... happy cakeday though

[–]SeraphicRage 1 point2 points ago

You might be on to something... Also, happy cake day!

[–]IceBlue 1 point2 points ago

Thanks.

[–]Moose_shit -4 points-3 points ago

I can't think of the name but it's the one breed that some asian cultures eat. So let's just say I was sad when I saw this dog in what is probably an asian nation.

[–]iToldYouiWasAWizard 0 points1 point ago

[–]i_inhale_repellents 1 point2 points ago

[–]OscarMiguelRamirez 0 points1 point ago

China, I'm guessing. Rice farming over thousands of years have carved the land into steps. Totally amazing.

Nope, these are the Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao, Philippines. Amazing place considering it was formed by natives with no tools over 2000 years ago.

I would also vote China, Guanxi province. Having been there, I can attest to how much this looks like Long Sheng. And there are many dogs that look just like this as well... before they're dinner. Dogs are eaten regularly in Guanxi.

Damn, you are right! The houses/structures give it away. Good eye!

So many rice terraces to visit, so little time...
