It gets more exciting at the end, but some of my friends just read the manga. If you want to get back into without losing interest right away, read the manga. However, right after Thriller Bark the story starts moving again, and it gets really good so they switched back

One Piece is so fucking amazing. Thriller Bark is probably the most boring arc but it's still so much fun to watch it, the best manga/anime nowadays hands down for me.

I love One Piece! I just recently finished the Thriller Bark volumes. This arc had lots of funny moments that just keep making you laugh no matter how much you re-read the material.

If anyone is interested what happens next: The zombie pops out again, angry, and yells, "Why would I want to go back?!". Luffy: "... An old man with severe injuries?". Crewmates: "Can't you see it's a zombie?!"

Does it get better? I watched maybe 4-5 episodes and it was, well, silly. The protagonist (Luffy? The stretchy guy) just seemed infinitely powerful - he seemed to win fights without even remotely trying. This just made it an awfully boring story for me, and after 4-5 episodes I didn't feel it was worth the time to watch it.

I dare to disagree.

Don't get me wrong. Dragon Ball was awesome. Part of my childhood. And without Dragon Ball, there would be no One Piece... I have a lot of respect for the old Sensei. But One Piece is lengths better... on all accounts. And I'm only making a comparison to attest it's level of awesomeness.

The biggest difference between the two is storytelling. Dragon Ball's structure got really repetitive towards the end... it seems just like a series of bad guys that had to be defeated. I think it starts with Vegeta. Then Freezer. Then the Cyborgs. Then Cell. And finally Boo.

The boss appears, they loose, they train, they win... something like that.

Oda seems to have already planned out most of the story - it works as a whole. There are so many story lines that move parallel... the narration is very rich.

One can already anticipate all the things that will still have to happen. * OnePiece - What will it be?

  • Reunion with Shank

  • Confrontation with BlackBeards Crew

  • The Glorious Tales of Captain Buggy

  • The Will of D. and the mystery of he Ancients

  • Revolutionary war

  • Confrontation with Captain Kidd

  • The mystery of Smoker's First Officer / Confrontation with Smoker

  • The comeback of Mister 2.

  • WTF is going on with Barthelomaeus Kuma and where stands Vegapunk?

  • Who will get their hands on an ancient weapon first?

  • The Revenge of the Tenryubito

And that's just off the top of my head. Dragon Ball never had such a density.

It's worth it just to read the sub titles. I thought it would be to distracting to read and watch but it wasn't bad and I got use to it.

yea its not terrible but sometimes i find myself only looking at the subtitles. i watched deathnote subbed and that wasn't bad because it was mainly about the dialouge.

You just have to watch more subbed, you quickly get better at reading subs until you read them subconsciously when watching.

You're missing out on a lot of OP. (Also honestly, the voices are much much better in Japanese, even if you don't understand shit)

the subbed version is actually better, most resources put into that main production rather then dubbing it into different languages. The voice actors are fantastic, even if you dont understand what they are saying, it still is hilarious.

I've never heard the dub, but some of the most emotional performances I've ever witness have come from the Japanese voice cast. Also the dub edits out over the top violence and obscenities.

They are subbed within a couple days of release in Japan. Generally the voice acting is worse in English, so watching the subs is so worth it. Exceptions to this rule are Golden Boy and Cowboy Beebop.

Yeah they stopped producing for awhile since Funimation needed to acquire the license for the next season. Thankfully, Toei granted it and Season 4 (206-263) will be released on DVD this summer (and online streaming soon after). That would include the final G8 episode, Davy Back Fight, Memory&Foxy filler, Water Seven, and ends with the start of Enies Lobby.

I'm rooting for more seasons to be picked up, but that's all up to Season 4's standing.
