I'll never forget it. She looked at me and said she had some news. That I was going to be a sister. I stood there, grossed out for about 5 minutes and then smiled (i was a lonely only child) and then she told me it was April fools and she was kidding. 4 months later she was preggers. When she told me the news for real, I told her that it served her right for kidding about it. Lesson learned from that was don't say that kind of shit if it isn't real.

I just got a text from my girlfriend who was on break at work.
She said "I have important and exciting news to tell you when I get home" and
"You are gonna want to sit down when I tell you."
I said, "You're making me think you're pregnant."
She said "We'll talk later."
Anyway, I just realized it's April Fool's Day after seeing this thread. Thankfully, she just got over her period yesterday, so I think I'm in the clear. She did succeed in giving me some anxiety though.
tl;dr - I think my gf is trying to pull this same prank.

If you're not ready for/want a child then you'll feel shitty.
If you really want a child, you'll feel shitty when you're told it was a joke.

i just have to comment on that "ready for a child" part: some people never want to have children. it's not necessarily a matter of being ready... and by the way, it would really suck if the issue came up like this.

what? no. this is a standard female test in the guise of a clever joke which makes it far, far more dangerous. no funny baby .gif can conceal the underlying horror of this situation

unless you're actually already engaged/married and planning to have kids soon, but not actively trying. then and only in that specific situation could it be funny. not from a girlfriend who you are just dating--in that case its a horrible, horrible test to gauge commitment level.
