It's in L.A Noire. It's a very cool car.

[–]cheesinator 30 points31 points ago

I drove nothing but this car. I would be like "Rusty, drive this shitty vehicle to that nice one on the other side of the map." And he would be like "OK" and I would leave him there and run him over with my fucking amazing Corsair.

[–]redditFTW1 2 points3 points ago

Came here to say this, man I loved driving that around in the game.

[–]blore40 45 points46 points ago

It's doing 100 standing still.

[–]Il_Principo 55 points56 points ago

NSFW. This is clearly porn.

[–]wtighe02 0 points1 point ago

r/carporn

[–]VancouverIslander 14 points15 points ago

Googled it, took me to this website, ended up looking at different concept cars for about an hour.

[–]ChoGaijin 15 points16 points ago

Holy Crap. It's a Colonial Viper!

[–]thebendavis 5 points6 points ago

Could you imagine the carnage that would have been wrought by being rear-ended by that thing?
It's like a giant log splitter.

[–]lifehacked 1 point2 points ago

Pssh. I had a Chevy Astro once.

[–]windy444 4 points5 points ago

Shit! I spent too much time on that concept site. Bookmarked it for later.

[–]crazedcanuck 2 points3 points ago

Why thank you for sharing this other wonderful time wasting site!

[–]omnomzomg 25 points26 points ago

what happened to design? look at my fucking car

[–]hokie47 19 points20 points ago

That thing has a blind spot the size of Mount Rushmore. I would hate to drive it.

[–]thebendavis 10 points11 points ago

That's what I don't like about most modern cars, they all look pretty-much the same. I can't tell if that's a civic or a corolla or an altima, etc.

[–]catapnea 3 points4 points ago

it's a civic

[–]doily0 4 points5 points ago

Its a 2001 Honda Civic

[–]zogworth 2 points3 points ago

Safety happened, also, can you imagine the turning circle of that thing

[–]AverageHero 1 point2 points ago

I remember someone talking about the corsair and saying it had a shit turning radius or something.

[–]whelp 0 points1 point ago

crumple zones and aerodynamics happened.

[–]lightspeed23 -1 points0 points ago

What's happened is that most car companies are owned by a handfull of very large ones. As small companies are bought up, they consolidate design/manufacturing/accounting etc. and so the cars come to resemble each other.

E.g. the new (latest) Lamborghini is nothing more than a fancy Audi now. Modern Jaguars (post ca. 1995 or so) are nothing more than fancy Fords (I know Ford bought them before that, but it took a while to develop all new models) and they look like it.

It's sad, I LOVE the design of the 30s/40s.

[–]nhannah -1 points0 points ago

False false false false....I love how your response falls so clearly to the left(liberal) mindset when the facts are much more to the right. The reason cars look the same now comes down to unibody design and crumple zones. The insane number of required safety features in new cars doesn't easily allow one to differ from convention as it wouldn't pass govenment safety requirements(crash tests)... Go look it up if you don't believe me, it has nothing to do with corporations losing their creativity, they want your money, if they were allowed to they would make better looking cars.

Think of it this way you used to put a steel frame down and carve a body around it. Now the body is the frame and its designed by safety engineers not artists. Makes a lot more sense then you being more in tune with the market than Audi.

[–]Bigdave28 4 points5 points ago

Why can't you both be right! Now shake hands and play nicely.

[–]lightspeed23 3 points4 points ago

I'll grant you that you probably can't make the Corsair with todays requirements for safety, and yes many modern cars are designed by engineers rather than designers BUT that's as far as I'll go. It is still very much possible to make interesting design though. As an example, there are still some modern cars that have very much their own design. e.g, notably the Landrover defender (an old design, but they still make it) and the Landrover Discovery 3, these two definitely look quite unique and unlike the other cookiecutter 4x4s out there. Another modern example are Bentley and RR, they still retain a unique design.

What's happened with e.g. Lamborghini is not so much the exterior design (which is still pretty nice), but rather the cars old character/feel has disappeared in the new model since it was bought by Audi and this has nothing to do with safety and crumble-zones..

Another prime example, the Jaguar X-type is based on the Ford Moneo platform and looks exactly like a Ford Mondeo with some slightly different body panels. Again this has nothing to do with crumble-zones and safety, real Jaguars from early 90's still have great safety and proper Jaguar design (e.g. the 1995 XJ or 1996 XK).

I don't see how my statement was left leaning, as I consider it an apolitical statement of fact.

[–]nhannah 2 points3 points ago

Landrover defender - Looks like a jeep, no unique glass or body features that would prevent a body frame from being used

Landrover Discovery 3 - Same as above

RR - While they look unique, I think RR has lost it and their cars just look like 90's versions of their 60's models(which looked better), they already were in a state where a body frame wouldn't hurt them though. No thin features with sweeping glass or low small convertibles.

Bentley - They have changed their style a lot, the 1947 bentley mark vi couldn't be made today though and they have shifted their look to adhere to modern safety standards

Jags - Lost it in the 80's when the standards started kicking in

Lambo/Ferrari - A Barchetta wouldn't pass a single test today and neither would a Miura

The reason I said it was left leaning is because your statement was blaming a bunch of companies saying they have lost their way when in reality it is gov't regulation that keeps you from driving something that looks like a 300SL(companies would love to produce another car like that).

As for building off platforms it's not all bad and the cars are better (spec wise) for it. People seem to forget that a 2000 civic stock could smoke a 1970's Ferrari or Lambo, so that character/feel is mostly underpowered V12's strapped to the back of an aluminum deathtrap.

Some of the above is my opinion, but like I said, it is a fact that car design has all converged due to safety standards. This is a widely discussed topic. It is probably for the better but all the same it sucks when everyone in Europe is driving bubble cars.

[–]licoricesnocone 11 points12 points ago

Pure unadulterated sex on wheels.

[–]seedpod02[!] 32 points33 points ago

Googled it and see the designer Rust Heinz died at 25 years old, just after it was completed, and it was the only one made.

[–]WhitePostIt 16 points17 points ago

Don't they have blueprints so that some classy rich gentleman could make one for his own?

[–]Aerialbear 11 points12 points ago*

William Harrah owns the car. It is featured in the National Automobile Museum he founded in Reno, Nevada before his death.

EDIT: Here is a screenshot of it on the list of exhibits. For the lazy.

[–]Jungle2266 3 points4 points ago

I'm impressed you can get six in it. Looks a 2 seater from the outside

[–]SirChuntsaLot 5 points6 points ago

*shits metaphorical conspiracy theorist pants. like the car that ran on water

[–]Batmanismymuse 9 points10 points ago

One of the original batmobiles, baby.

[–]Mughi 2 points3 points ago

Came here for Batmobile ref. Leaving happy.

[–]arkington 1 point2 points ago

just pointing out that batman had his debut in 1939. maybe bob was inspired by the design of the time....

[–]neuromorph 5 points6 points ago

its in the national auto museum near my house in Reno. it is really long. The back seat is literally the size of a modern couch. the front end (engine compartment) is like 10 feet long.

This this is massive.

[–]WhitePostIt 2 points3 points ago

Well yeah. Think about it. This car is classy, sexy as hell. Whoever owns this car would have plenty of ladies on his arm wanting a ride. He could be the ugliest, most disgusting man in the world, people would still be lining up to ride with him.

To me its how I envision the batmobile in a Noir 1920's era.

[–]SpaghettiFarmer 0 points1 point ago

This wasn't that unusual back then in cars. Some of those things were freaking yachts with wheels. As milage, safety, and cost of manufacture became important, folks began scaling down.

[–]cygnusb 3 points4 points ago

i wish, i wish, i wish car makers would bring back that body style. I would buy one. SO cool looking, and great for gas mileage!

[–]SpaghettiFarmer 0 points1 point ago

I could be 100% wrong, but I think that the two issues are safety and antique value. The first is obvious, but if you can get imitation cars from old blueprints, that drives down the value of other older cars.

About the best we're going to get in today's market is the PT Cruiser. Quite clearly a retro design with modern adjustments aesthetically and practically.

[–]-Zilla 2 points3 points ago

Damn that car is just straight sexy

[–]7filter 2 points3 points ago

I was told once in a design-history lecture that these proved to be more aerodynamic backwards than forwards..

[–]infantwar 2 points3 points ago

All I can think of is how INCREDIBLE this car was in the original 'Mafia' game on PC.

[–]winnar72 1 point2 points ago

Lots of cool stuff from the last time this was posted in comments here

[–]Wyeth21 1 point2 points ago

Looks awesome, but would you be able to see much out of the front windows?

[–]redditFTW1 2 points3 points ago*

the seats are very low, hense the very high and small windshield. just enough for your eyes to see.

The thing that concerns me though is the blindspot, holy shit.. i'm thinking back then there were a shitload of accidents just because of people not being able to see their blindspot...

[–]Xunae 0 points1 point ago

you have more blindspot than windshield on that thing

[–]CrazyShooter 1 point2 points ago

That is just down right beautiful.

[–]WhitePostIt 1 point2 points ago

When I first saw this car, the first thing I thought was Classy Batman. Ever since then, I wanted it. I want it so bad. It's the only car I could ever obsess over and love.

[–]AK214 1 point2 points ago

Just got back from /buildapc and thought it was going to be a awesome PC case mod. Was still not disappointed.

[–]thebendavis 1 point2 points ago

90% blind-spot.

[–]Assassin_Ninja_Spy 1 point2 points ago

The only reason I recognize this car: LA Noire

[–]frakkin 1 point2 points ago

I don't even care that the windows are retarded. I want that car.

[–]Itastepaint 1 point2 points ago

When people ask me what kind of car I want, I say this motherfucker.

[–]Balatros 1 point2 points ago

I WANT THIS

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Fucking. Awesome.

[–]tonywartooth 0 points1 point ago

I love that car. The Duesenberg Speedster is pretty fucking sexy as well.

[–]ara_p 0 points1 point ago

Gorgeous.

[–]hokie47 0 points1 point ago

How do you see out of that car. I would hate to drive it. Yeah it looks cool, but totally not realistic.

[–]MusicMagi 0 points1 point ago

so ahead of its time

[–]TimothyGonzalez 0 points1 point ago

Stunning.

[–]Micro_lite 0 points1 point ago

No door handles?

[–]PneumonicFungus 0 points1 point ago

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

[–]AussieTemplar 0 points1 point ago

one does not simply turn left or right in this car.

[–]gonzo5622 0 points1 point ago

This car is sooo fucking modern! I want to see a company bring this sort of shape back!

[–]Pebblebeach31 0 points1 point ago

This car is crazy in person

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]michaelstripe 0 points1 point ago

There is no way this car could be made today, the amount of regulations that this gives the finger to, I mean just look at the windows, that's all the space you have to see what else is on the road.

[–]DAVEWULF 0 points1 point ago

This is some Gotham city shit right here

[–]wild-tangent 0 points1 point ago

Problem of that car is that in snow the snow accumulates in those wheel arches. You then can't turn your wheel.

[–]Frankenstooge 0 points1 point ago

Seeing this makes me feel like automotive industrial design has gone backwards. We get shit like the Yugo now.

[–]graogrim 0 points1 point ago

Now if only I could race that in GT5.

[–]haabsters 0 points1 point ago

How did that come out during the depression?

[–]SirDigbyChicknCeasar 0 points1 point ago

Dude seriously, I ended up wiki-ing the shit out of the L.A. Noire secret cars, including this one, and I was honestly blown away by some of the advanced designs and technologies. For the time obviously. But still, some of those things I still have trouble believing were made in the 30's/40's.

[–]Jungle2266 1 point2 points ago

It's amazing this thing had push button electric opening doors, no door handles all the way back then. I just can't understand why they put an altimeter on it.

[–]peewafe 0 points1 point ago

so many blind-spots

[–]BootyPirate 0 points1 point ago

I believe style like this needs to come back into circulation, that and everyone wears top hats like 1920's New York.

[–]ThePhenix 0 points1 point ago

So tell me how we went from this to 80s and 90s cars.

[–]LovesBlumpkins 0 points1 point ago

batmobile with class

[–]destructaball 0 points1 point ago

How do you change the tyres?

[–]haute_mua 0 points1 point ago

Just imagine the blind spot. Car would be wrecked the day you got it.

[–]on_that_note -1 points0 points ago

Im sorry this car looks like a robotic phallus.

[–]WUSSUPMONKEY -1 points0 points ago

for a second i thought this was general grievous' cruiser

[–]RazorFang -1 points0 points ago

im probably gonna be down voted but i dont find the car very attractive ... however that car is entirely hand made and thats makes it beautiful
