This man is one of the funniest actors alive today.

[–]PancakeMonkeypants 0 points1 point ago

Who is it? For some fucked up reason I thought that was Hunter S. Thompson lolol.

[–]sage_of_majic[!] 2 points3 points ago

Pretty sure it's Christopher Lloyd

[–]PancakeMonkeypants 0 points1 point ago

OH. I feel dumb. Thank you.

[–]tehmatticus 0 points1 point ago

Christopher Lloyd

[–]Hamlet7768 0 points1 point ago

Christopher Lloyd.

...and when you think about that it's going to take you 2-3 hours to complete, you almost stop giving a damn.. but eventually you get up and finish your homework .

[–]koolkid005 14 points15 points ago

Hahahahahaha yeah, I totally do that....

I really wish people would stop commenting on someone's username and thinking it's so clever.

[–]CiD7707 2 points3 points ago

You know what? You're right. You're a pretty koolkid.

[–]JohnDavidBootyCall 4 points5 points ago

Great Scott!

[–]astrogaijin 22 points23 points ago

I took a test and this happened to me.

[–]joss33 2 points3 points ago

Same here. Noticed halfway through a test and failed the test because of it.

[–]ramenmeal 3 points4 points ago

Answer's would make no sense though! You cannot blindly enter things into calculators and trust it.

[–]joss33 1 point2 points ago

If you're in a rush you do.

[–]fucksmith 10 points11 points ago

As someone who failed math, I don't get it.

[–]JaysonthePirate 18 points19 points ago*

Degrees Radians
0
30° pi/6
45° pi/4
60° pi/3
90° pi/2
180° pi
270° 3pi/2
360° 2pi

Basically if you're working with angles you have to specify what your units are in order to not fuck up your entire life.

COS(60) in degrees will give you a different answer than COS(60) in radians.

(I couldn't find a way to add the pi symbol but you get the point...)

[–]4rch[!] 5 points6 points ago

π

[–]JaysonthePirate 2 points3 points ago

Thats the one I tried to use but on my computer it looks more like an N. Maybe its a font thing.

[–]LukaCola 1 point2 points ago

Are there calculator which will give you specific pi values for radians rather than decimal points?

I would kill for such a calculator...

[–]zmaster 0 points1 point ago

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Casio-FX-83GTPLUS-S-UH-FX-83GTPLUS-Scientific-Calculator/dp/B001O3IF9U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1333233060&sr=8-2

Don't quote me, but I think this can do it.

Got one lying around at my friends house, I'll ask him to check

[–]Amagineer 0 points1 point ago

Yes I've got one, it reduces fractions/rationals spits out pi, gives answers in fractions instead of decimal by default...

[–]moronthannot 0 points1 point ago

Just convert degrees to radians on paper, or in your head. If you know the unit circle it's even easier.

[–]LukaCola 0 points1 point ago

Gee, thanks for that incredibly useful advice.

I can trust a calculator better than my own memory, not to mention its often significantly faster not to mention I could do degrees like 15 rather than writing the entire formula down and risking a mistake.

Seriously though, did you really think that sounded helpful while you were typing it?

[–]moronthannot 0 points1 point ago

You're missing the point. Read about radians for five minutes and try actually learning it before you break out the crutchulator. Sorry for offending you.

[–]LukaCola 0 points1 point ago

"Crutchulator"?

What are you, a luddite?

We use technology to simplify difficult things, not to replace them. I know my unit circle, I know the equations to change degrees to radians and radians to degrees (Pi/180 , 180/Pi) it's not difficult. However, there are far more complex things that need to be done. Calculators let those things happen faster. That's why we use them, so we don't waste time. Not to mention they're always accurate.

Why are you so against calculators? And why do you assume I can't do t by hand? I'm mostly offended by that, it's like you're trying to have an air of superiority because I want a calculator that can do the work. Hell it's not like I'll remember this information for much longer anyway, it's bloody trigonometry. I don't need to know it and my time is better spent elsewhere.

Ugh, I don't care what you think is the right way to do it. I want a calculator that can simplify the work and your advice is possibly the most useless advice I've ever heard.

So don't bother me about this nonsense, had a hard enough day already. Don't need your smart ass telling me the "proper" way to get the answer.

[–]moronthannot 0 points1 point ago

All I said was learn the unit circle. If you're going into the higher maths it would be very useful to understand radians.

[–]JediGovna 2 points3 points ago

Look at the bottom right of Reddit.

π

[–]forScience4004 0 points1 point ago

Or just use radian to degree conversion. Multiply the number of radians by the value of 180 over pi

[–]JaysonthePirate 1 point2 points ago

But that would mean you remembered before you turned in your work...

[–]forScience4004 0 points1 point ago

true story lol

[–]Eminence120 0 points1 point ago

So, magic alright got it.

[–]Jason54178 4 points5 points ago

Your calculator is either set to radians or degrees, so if the question asks for an answer in degrees and you have your calculator set in radians, you're fucked.

[–]mobshy 1 point2 points ago

360 degrees = 2pi radians So if you hit sin(75) or whatever, it makes a big difference if you calculator thought that 75 was degrees or radians. I mean you should be able to figure it out if you hit like sin(90) but could miss if it's part of a big equation.

[–]DrBoomkin 1 point2 points ago

I don't understand how is it possible not to see it immediately, when you get weird results.

[–]moronthannot 1 point2 points ago

A lot of people rely on calculators and never question the results.

[–]leontrotskitty 0 points1 point ago

This gives me chills - I've never thought about it but fuck, this would give you the shittiest feeling

[–]Gramma42ton 27 points28 points ago

Happened to me last Monday morning, at about 7 o'clock. I was late for school, and I hadn't studied at all for the AP physics C exam.

mfw I remembered I am actually in university, it is spring brake, and it had all been a dream

[–]Timett_son_of_Timett 23 points24 points ago

That feeling of relief is truly orgasmic.

[–]gc161 10 points11 points ago

Sometimes I still feel guilty even after realizing it's a dream.

[–]Timett_son_of_Timett 2 points3 points ago

That's rough man. I'm a guilt free asshole in all of my dreams... The only difference in waking life is that I am in denial about my denial of guilt.

[–]bearskinz 3 points4 points ago

brake

[–]TellMeTheDuckStory 10 points11 points ago

He didn't specify which university.

[–]questionslp 2 points3 points ago

This is why I come to the internet. Thank you.

[–]octopolis -2 points-1 points ago

[–]Gramma42ton 1 point2 points ago

What part of "break" did you find fascinating?

[–]questionslp 0 points1 point ago

Not an engrish major?

[–]getter1 0 points1 point ago

I've had dreams where I somehow become aware that I signed up for an extremely important class but managed to forget about it until the midterm and then I go on that crazed dash around campus trying to fix things and it usually results in everybody in the dream disappearing and I get stuck in a room with odd architecture.

Oh, yeah, I totally get that feeling where I will wake up at 4am and start freaking out about having a Quantum Mechanics problem set due today. Then, I remember that I haven't been in school for years now, and it was just a nightmare of times past. QMPTSD...I've seen things.

[–]UncleDrunkle 2 points3 points ago

yes, reddit is turning into a bunch of high schoolers...

[–]addman77 8 points9 points ago

This post made me realize that I forgot to do my homework...

[–]jettrscga 9 points10 points ago

Good thing it's Saturday.

[–]addman77 3 points4 points ago

Unfortunately, I realized I forgot to do my homework due friday night. Who assigns homework due friday night!?

[–]jettrscga 3 points4 points ago

Ah yeah, that sucks. Like the online turn-ins due at midnight. I start assignments at midnight! It throws everything off!

[–]addman77 1 point2 points ago

Those are the ones. They always get me

[–]koolkid005 0 points1 point ago

Not all homework can be done in 2 days.

[–]jettrscga 2 points3 points ago

My experience with all education: Challenge accepted.

Code up a MIPS single cycle processor in VHDL and simulate it in modelsim.

[–]koolkid005 -1 points0 points ago

Write my 2000 word paper on the Dresden Firebombing for me by Monday, then, if you so accept this challenge.

[–]Izz2011 9 points10 points ago

You can't write a 2000 word paper in one day?

[–]koolkid005 6 points7 points ago

Without having done any research? No? I'm not very good at academic pursuits. If you told me to write 2000 words I could, but not a 2000 word paper.

[–]lupinthethird[!] 4 points5 points ago

I had to do it in an hour once.

I made a B+

[–]stopstigma 0 points1 point ago

What year university and what major ?

[–]eejit_features 9 points10 points ago

That's when I would start to calculate the amount of time I have on the school bus to copy everyone else's answers.

Time = (distance / speed) qty of homework

I still have dreams that I forgot to do my homework. Graduated college three years ago.

[–]wmurray003 2 points3 points ago

I have done this many times. I cannot tell you how, I cannot tell you why.

That's my expression when I realize I have a meeting with my supervisor later that day and nothing useful to show him...it never ends.

[–]Cptn_Hook 2 points3 points ago

3 AM? That's plenty of time. That's when I would have started considering doing my homework.

[–]koolkid005 2 points3 points ago

I was gonna say, people do homework outside of school?

[–]Relayerduos 2 points3 points ago

Oh yeah, high school, I seem to remember that.

[–]Stingraid 3 points4 points ago

I know that feel, bro.

[–]ablebodiedmango 0 points1 point ago*

Then I got an actual job.

It's still a lot easier and technically free if you're in a public high school/in college on student loans (obviously until you have to pay them off, but not many college kids really comprehend that)

I think there's a lot of benefit from the fact that you don't have to worry about whether the next day's food is going to rely on whether you do your homework or not.

Whether it will matter a few years down the line, however...

[–]koolkid005 0 points1 point ago

Except kids are told that they DO have to worry about tomorrow's food not being there if they don't so their homework. All around me in high school I saw people who were indoctrinated with the "graduate high school WITH GOOD GRADES go to college GET GOOD GRADES and nothing bad will happen and if you don't everything bad will happen" mindset.

[–]ablebodiedmango -2 points-1 points ago

Except kids are told that they DO have to worry about tomorrow's food not being there if they don't so their homework

Pretty sure you're vastly over-exaggerating the emphasis Americans put on their education.

Also, protip: Your education doesn't matter nearly as much as experience. Internshps/apprenticeships will get you farther than straight As. If anything, that's the source of fraud in American higher education: they don't tell you that a Bachelor's or even graduate degree won't get you anywhere if you don't have experience.

[–]koolkid005 0 points1 point ago

No, I'm not. Just because you want to hate us does not mean I'm wrong. THIS IS the predominate attitude among people in the US.

Did I ever say that? No, I said the kids are taught that they need to get good grades and go to a good school and get a good degree (I mean, just look at how many people on reddit still believe that).

[–]ablebodiedmango -2 points-1 points ago

Just because you want to hate us does not mean I'm wrong.

I AM an American, dipshit, that's how I can speak from experience- both here and in a third world country whose education system blows ours out of the water. And you are wrong. The American education system is fucked, of that there is no doubt. Bars for achievement are lowered and even kids who get straight As are below the curve for what they should know.

The predominate attitude among Americans is to do just well enough to get by, or at least do well enough for lazy educators to tell them they're doing well.
