I was taking off in a plane once (727 I think), and it was like -30 in Toronto that day so I guess the fuel lines were really slow or something, so when the pilot revved the engine the slow/frozen fuel all flooded in at once and caught one of the engines on fire in a rather impressive fireball.

The pilots didn't say anything and the plane kept going down the runway, and people at the back of the plane slowly started going "Um, I think there's a fire on the wing. The wing is definitely on fire. THE PLANES ON FIRE, FIIIIIRRREEEE".

They eventually stopped, parked the plane, had mechanics look at it for 3 hours and we took off on the same plane with the same engine. I was fucking terrified.

I now fly twice a week for work and to this day I am scared of -0 weather.

TL;DR - Was on a plane and the wing caught on fire. Panic slowly ensued.

I was on a hop from Chicago to Seattle, and near the end of the flight the pilot got on the cabin intercom and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, we are approaching Seatac. Our co-pilot is going to land the plane, and it is his first time so wish him luck!" We passengers looked at each other and kind of laughed nervously. We landed a little rough, and on the way out sure enough the young co-pilot was standing with the much older pilot shaking hands. I gave him a big thanks and keep up the good work.

Does anybody else really miss being able to talk to your pilot? When I was a kid going up into the cockpit was the coolest part of flying, and it seems like that sort of admiration would reinforce the job satisfaction of the pilots.
