  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

Original Source: http://www.crazy-ivory.de/

I am the photographer BTW.

[–]NickTheNewbie 72 points73 points ago

Every time I see this picture, it makes me feel REALLY uneasy.

[–]Ktkeenan 13 points14 points ago

I second this. It's not common for a picture to make me so uneasy but when it does, it's a cute cat on balcony.

[–]Stettman 19 points20 points ago

It only makes me uneasy because planking is so 2000 and late

[–]coldvault 1 point2 points ago

Fergie?

[–]Moniker_30 3 points4 points ago

(The pilot was so amazed he flew up to the same height the next week with a stray and this time intentionally dropped it. It ran off into the woods. Bets were then placed and the following week another pilot took off, this time with two cats, and dropped them both, but they both died.)

What... the... fuck...?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Sacrefix 1 point2 points ago

For the greater good.

[–]UncleMadness 0 points1 point ago

If I win this stupid lottery thing I'm going to use the money to find that pilot and give him a choice between jumping out of a plane voluntarily or fist kisses till I feel done.

[–]datsky 1 point2 points ago

my best friends cat died this way. Was a hell of a cat

[–]screamingradio 0 points1 point ago

Does anyone else get a tingling feeling in their hands when they see a pic like this or almost fall?

[–]Happy_Gaming 1 point2 points ago

I usually get it in my feet and assassins creed gave me the same feeling.

[–]unholymackerel 18 points19 points ago

is there a 'making of' series that shows kitty is relatively safe in that position?

[–]CrazyEve 59 points60 points ago

Its not safe at all, there is no safety net or something alike. I dont have any other perspective that shows you the look down, but here is the cat during the day:

[–]sanders420 43 points44 points ago

I would have a heart attack if one of my fatties got on that ledge. They can't even handle staying on a window sill!

[–]suace 26 points27 points ago

I know! I watched my fatty try to jump from the back of the couch to the fireplace mantle a few days ago. I had to run over and grab her back legs and help her up, she did one of those I'M GONNA MAKE I'M GONNA MAKE OH SHIT I DIDN'T MAKE IT things. I think she'd just fall right off that rail and end up a pile of marshmellow pudding, because she's my white marshmellow cat.

[–]CAPS_LOCK_USERNAME 5 points6 points ago

All of these posts make me wish I wasn't allergic.

[–]Defiledxhalo 2 points3 points ago

I'm allergic. Doesn't stop me! You can just take a daily OTC drug to keep your allergies at bay. :D

[–]BluRayDisc 1 point2 points ago

Now thats dedication!

[–]Defiledxhalo 5 points6 points ago

Cats. They own me. I also volunteer at the humane society once a week and become covered in cat fur VERY quickly. XD

[–]BluRayDisc 2 points3 points ago

High five and this!

[–]JustWantsReddit 0 points1 point ago

I understand. I have to take mucinex daily with what seems like gallons of water so I can have my cat, Luisa Maria. But, it is all worth it. Also, she gets a haircut each month. Nothing better than a shaved cat

[–]bitch_im_a_lion 7 points8 points ago

It's cool she'll have 8 more lives.

[–]Ryugi 1 point2 points ago

Ah this is too hilarious.

[–]njensen 1 point2 points ago

WHITE MARSHMALLOW CAT!!!!

[–]sanders420 1 point2 points ago

This made me laugh out loud. Brought back fond memories of finding my cat ass up in the air wedged between the back of the couch and the wall!

[–]suace 1 point2 points ago

No! That's too funny, I can totally picture my kitty in that situation.

My sister had a fat Persian when we were kids. It's name was Pooky, and Pooky was stupid. Pooky didn't know how to meow, and I watched Pooky run straight into a wall at full speed twice while playing chase with the other house cat. The other cat turned, Pooky just kept going straight until BAM!

One day, my mom asked "Where's Pooky?" We realized no one had seen Pooky all day so we begin hunting. After 30 mins I start opening up crazy shit, the fridge, the oven, all the cupboards, and my Mom starts yelling at me to stop, there is no way Pooky could be in there. That's when I spun the lazy susan cupboard opened and there was Pooky, wide awake, just sitting there looking up at us. She didn't even care, she just kept sitting there. I had to pick her up and take her out. Turns out my Mom had put something in there that morning, Pooky sneaks in, and just...just sits there waiting. Dumbest cat ever, and I love kitties.

[–]unholymackerel 2 points3 points ago

ahhhhhhhhhhh that's scary too!

[–]CrazyEve 2 points3 points ago

I hope so ;)

[–]torankusu 5 points6 points ago

This makes me so nervous. A cat in my old apartment building fell from a balcony on the 20th floor.

[–]iLikeToBiteMyNails 2 points3 points ago

My cat used to do this. Instead of falling she would get onto the neighbours balcony and leave a nice turd surprise before coming back safe and sound.

[–]k4713k 1 point2 points ago

I'm sorry for your loss.

[–]torankusu 3 points4 points ago

Thank you for your kind comment, but it wasn't any of my cats. It was another person in the building. It's still very sad, though. :(

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Did it die? I'm not being facetious, I've heard cats can pretty easily survive really high falls. Something about their terminal velocity being low for how bendy they are, or something.

[–]torankusu 0 points1 point ago

I actually wasn't living there yet and my roommate told me about it when I moved in. I sent a PM to her on facebook, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet.

[–]T_Mucks 7 points8 points ago

The amazing part is he jumped up from the left.

[–]junkit33 3 points4 points ago

It's a cat. By definition it's relatively safe on a ledge. Cats don't often fall by accident.

[–]MikielJackson 4 points5 points ago

No, they just hop off the deep end if even relatively startled (or if they see a bird, or something).

[–]junkit33 0 points1 point ago

Like I said, relatively.

[–]skoh 3 points4 points ago

Well, not by definition. But yes, cats are good with ledges.

[–]SCSweeps 3 points4 points ago

that bokeh.

[–]raabbasi 1 point2 points ago

Thanks. Please stop reposting this persons pics! If it looks interesting and it's about cats, IT'S BEEN POSTED ALREADY!

[–]Ryugi 1 point2 points ago

I am so sorry about the stolen karma.

Also, please tell me that in the future you plan on putting out a safety net. :(

[–]CrazyEve 0 points1 point ago

Its not my cat, but I will tell the cat owner ;)

[–]mx354774 1 point2 points ago

You do know cats can fall right?

[–]CrazyEve 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, but its not my cat, so there is not much I can do about it.

[–]s8teh3ay 0 points1 point ago*

Do you have more of this series? The original shot was my mobile wallpaper for ages, it was really versatile as I can know where I'm scrolling through my android windows and be able to determine the fate of this cat. Even if you could post more photos of this cat. That'll be great.
edit: spelling, grammar.

[–]CrazyEve 0 points1 point ago

I have some others, but nothing as good as this one. I also did not process any other shots, so not too spectacular.

[–]Tehdew 0 points1 point ago

you seem to have broken your website ^

[–]The-Jerk-Store 0 points1 point ago

Sick Fearless Bastard?

[–]CrazyEve 0 points1 point ago

YEAH!

[–]rabidfish91 0 points1 point ago

I love this photo! I wish people would stop taking your photo for karma, this is like the 4th time I've seen it posted

[–]CrazyEve 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it has gotten incredibly viral lately =)

[–]Sir_Meowsalot 0 points1 point ago

I remember you! Didn't this picture end up in a magazine?

[–]CrazyEve 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, acually in more than one. My biggest success until now.

[–]StewieBanana 0 points1 point ago

Awesome picture! Mind if I pay you in karma?

[–]CrazyEve 0 points1 point ago

Not at all!

[–]anime_junkie 0 points1 point ago

Just thought I would let you know that I had this picture as my background for the longest time. I love it! :)

[–]CrazyEve 1 point2 points ago

thank you!

[–]LincolnshireSausage 0 points1 point ago

My cat used to do the same thing. I wasn't quite as high up as you but high enough to kill the cat if it fell. Sometimes it would hop out of the living room window on to a ledge that was less than 2 inches wide, walk about 20 feet out on this ledge and sit there all day watching everything go past. Eventually it would come back inside. The first time he did it it scared the crap out of me.

[–]Fearbeard 159 points160 points ago

I don't know why. But when I opened this and saw the cat. I waved at it.

At the screen.

I waved at the screen.

I'm going back to bed.

[–]fruitloop 1 point2 points ago

I dont know why....but when I read your comment....I opened the picture, saw the cat and waved at it and then posted this comment.

[–]Fearbeard 1 point2 points ago

Welcome to the club.

[–]FreeDirt 5 points6 points ago

I'm home sick from work today and I did the same thing. I'm thinking it's an overdose of Nyquil. Are you taking Nyquil, too?

I'm bored, entertain me?

[–]Fearbeard 7 points8 points ago

I'm not taking Nyquil, but I am getting over a cold. So I'm definitely not operating at 100% capacity.

[–][deleted] 87 points88 points ago

DON'T FALL KITTY

[–]webby_mc_webberson 50 points51 points ago

OR IF YOU DO, FALL TO YOUR LEFT

[–]unholymackerel 32 points33 points ago

THAT'S MY RIGHT

[–]jmurphy1989 6 points7 points ago

Or if you do fall, hopefully it's above the 7th floor

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

For some reason I knew that... [8]

[–]What_She_Order 12 points13 points ago

OH LONG JOHNSON!

[–]TheKZA 0 points1 point ago

OH MY DOG

[–]odotman 21 points22 points ago*

[–]thergrim 19 points20 points ago

Planking is so 2,000 and late.

[–]Im_SloMoShun 16 points17 points ago

SAYING SOMETHING IS "SO 2,000 AND LATE" IS SO 2009 YOU ASSWIPE

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

I have a bird net tied down around my balcony so the cats can get through, even if they did jump up. too many cats die this way.

[–]vinsneezel 11 points12 points ago

This gives me anxiety.

[–]vwlulz 25 points26 points ago

The balcony in question looks like its at least 15-20 stories high, if you value your cat dont over estimate its ability to balance itself... I work at a highrise building and the other day had to watch as someone scraped their cat of the pavement after it fell 29 stories... they will NOT land on their feet, or if they do, they will die....

[–]TheJVH 2 points3 points ago

He would probably die, but if the cat is a falling-champion, the cat might survive...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_righting_reflex#Injury

[–]CrazyEve -1 points0 points ago

Not always, look up "high rise syndrome"

[–]td888 11 points12 points ago

Well... my cat fell twice from a four story building. She did survive both times but going through the emotions of trying to find your cat and realising she fell from the balcony I wish to nobody.

I found her back on the street, hiding in the tire of a car. She had a bloody fur, and looked really messed up. After the vet checked her out, she only had some bruises and cuts, but no internal bleedings or anything broken.

Guess she was lucky, but burned through 8 of her 9 lives. She is not allowed on the terrace anymore, unless I am watching.

[–]YawnSpawner 0 points1 point ago

I am buying a condo on the 10th floor with a cat door to the porch, is there any way to make it safe?

[–]dicer999 0 points1 point ago

Just reduce risk of it being near the balcony for a long time. Most cats have a non lethal terminal velocity.

[–]kakuna 2 points3 points ago

I did. Here are a few Wikipedia quotes:

In reference to the belief that cats falling from great heights show less injuries than from some lower heights:

*1. Another possible explanation for this phenomenon would be the fact that cats who die in falls are less likely to be brought to a veterinarian than injured cats, and thus many of the cats killed in falls from higher buildings are not reported in studies of the subject.

A more recent study of the "high rise syndrome" with more common sense outcomes:

*2. In a more recent study it has been observed that cats falling from higher places would suffer more severe injuries.

And in reference to the cats not landing on their feet from high distances:

*3. However, it has been argued that, after having reached terminal velocity, cats would orient their limbs horizontally such that their body hits the ground first.

I'm going to back Vwlulz's experience here.

[–]szchm 1 point2 points ago

If you've reached terminal velocity, you're basically fucked unless you're the size of an ant. Maybe the horizontal manoeuvre does mitigate some of the injury, but if the cat is falling from a 20-story building, it's going to be the difference between 250% dead and 230% dead.

[–]Sacrefix 0 points1 point ago

Cats have a terminal velocity of 60 mph, and scientists have suggested that a cat could reduce this speed to 53 mph by spreading out, and therefore survive some impressive falls.

[–]Kwyjibo47 -3 points-2 points ago

"cats that fell from 9 or more stories suffered fewer injuries than those falling from lower heights" http://animals.howstuffworks.com/pets/domestic-cat-info5.htm

[–]vwlulz 10 points11 points ago

I assure you the one that I saw being peeled off the pavement suffered significant injuries seeing as it you know... died and all.

[–]Galivis 3 points4 points ago

The numbers is slightly misleading because those that fell from the higher heights more often died and were not reported.

[–]Sacrefix 0 points1 point ago

That may be true, but it is ultimately conjecture.

[–]Giantpanda602 1 point2 points ago

With the legs pointed downward, the cat then spreads its legs so that its body forms a sort of parachute that increases air resistance.

Holy shit that is awesome!

[–]quickgold192 1 point2 points ago

Neil deGrasse Tyson disagrees. Or at least, he takes exception to the "study." Skip to 15:00.

[–]Larzzon 8 points9 points ago

I wont open the windows enough for my cat to squeeze out and I live on the second floor, mortal fear of her jumping out and having to explain why my poor care meant the death of another being..also u know I like the critter

[–]dalgeek 0 points1 point ago

I used to leave my second floor balcony door open for my cats to hang out, until one of them realized he could jump off and not get hurt. He ran away 2-3 times this way.

[–]ebneter 0 points1 point ago

Second floor is nothing for a cat, as long as it's jumping rather than falling. (I knew a cat that broke its leg falling ~6 ft onto concrete, but it fell rather than jumped.)

[–]HipHoppin 5 points6 points ago

Almost a monorail cat

[–]denz88 1 point2 points ago

Why do my palms begin sweating when I see these kinds of things?

[–]oDFx 0 points1 point ago

Because you masturbated too much as a youth. Hair will follow.

[–]mrminnesota 1 point2 points ago

Get down from there kitty! No, you are not a gargoyle!!!

[–]EireNYC 1 point2 points ago

When I was growing up I had a Norwegian forest cat who would climb through the ventilation in the air conditioner and then jump onto the ledge of my terrace( I live on the 33rd floor in a Manhattan building) and lie down with his arms hanging over the edge. The anxiety of trying to coax a cat off the ledge is not something I will soon forget.

[–]joshuad80 1 point2 points ago

niiiiiii -- Oh shit!

[–]Martze 1 point2 points ago

Ah, to be young and still have all nine lives left.

[–]trueturns 1 point2 points ago

Why would you even let your cat out like this if it's clearly dangerous? Am I missing something here?

[–]RedKay 1 point2 points ago

they call it , Guardian of the night http://i.imgur.com/tYAO1.jpg

[–]AdamAntony 1 point2 points ago

Oh god, I'd have a panic attack if I saw my cat doing that, I'd then tie it up with a lasso and lock it in the bathroom so she was safe.

[–]bubblepoint1980 5 points6 points ago

Stupid owner. Cats are clumsy too.

You think this is a motherfuckin game?!

Reminds me of a dumbass cat I used to have that liked to sit on railings. Fortunately this one was only overlooking the living room, and not off a multistory dropoff.

She decided to chase her tail. While on top of a railing. She fell off. Only about ten feet or so though, wound up fine.

[–]Milltown 0 points1 point ago

No Cats Were Harmed in the Taking of This Picture.

[–]szchm 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, it'd be at least like 8 seconds after taking the picture before the cat was harmed, if you consider air resistance.

[–]greentablets 0 points1 point ago

Omg that cat it totally laying there

[–]prodikl 0 points1 point ago

Instant sweaty palms :(

[–]Rollingstone557 0 points1 point ago

poor cat...

[–]thegimboid 0 points1 point ago

This picture terrifies me.

The only nightmare I've had in the past several years has been of my cat falling from my balcony (I live on the 18th floor).
The thing is, that even if he survived the first drop with broken legs or something, he would land on the roof that's below me, then tumble from that.

I used to have a roommate who went out on the balcony often to smoke. I hated that guy, not only because he ended up leaving while owing over $1000, but also because he kept leaving the balcony door open.

CAT, GET
THE FUCK
DOWN
FROM THAT RAILING.

GODDAMNIT CAT YOU ARE GOING TO FALL AND I WILL CRY

[–]frownykid 0 points1 point ago

Tips cat over the edge. Hahaha, let us see you land on your feet now!

[–]Kredns 0 points1 point ago

Cats have a good chance of not dieing if they are high enough in the air. This is true because cats don't have a true terminal velocity. They'll probably be badly injured, but should have a good chance of living.

[–]MarkWalburg -1 points0 points ago

Hey look everyone, it's monorail cat!!

[–]DOWNVOTEDBITCH 0 points1 point ago

Soon to be dead cat.

[–]Gekkoisgek 0 points1 point ago

Awesome view rather.

[–]poopOnU 0 points1 point ago

Please don't let your cat perch on a balcony like that

[–]lazy-bear 0 points1 point ago

Is this in Champaign, Illinois?

[–]sublimeparanoia 0 points1 point ago

i have no idea why you would think that but upvoted for champaign

[–]sequeezer 0 points1 point ago

omg i can´t view such pics since my cat fall/jumped from my balkony, she´s still alive but has a broken leg which is twisted even after surgery :'(

[–]ekmpdx 0 points1 point ago

That cat is demonstrating the exact reason my cats aren't allowed out on the balcony. My last apt in LA was on the 12th floor and it had this wonderful 40ft long deck. First (and last) time I let the girl cat out she immediately jumped up onto the rail and damn near gave me a heart attack. Looking back I wish I'd had the wherewithal to snap a picture, but I was too preoccupied with trying to figure out how to get her down from there without freaking her out and making her fall. Damn cat.

[–]skyclown -1 points0 points ago

Believe it or not a cat will almost certainly survive a high fall if its ABOVE the seventh floor. The reason for this is that as small mammals they have a non-terminal velocity to begin with and if they are high enough they have time to re-orient themselves, relax, spread their limbs and glide to a fast but safe landing.

[–]rabidfish91 0 points1 point ago

Wow I've only seen this posted about 4 times before, that's spectacular

[–]Not-a-real-redditor -1 points0 points ago

Quick, push it off!!

We'll pretending we're studying the cats self righting ability and call it science!

[–]ek_ladki -1 points0 points ago

Why would u do that to ur cat? Karma's not that important.
