I like that the last panel in #4 is from the grownups' perspective, but Hobbes is still drawn as a real tiger, rather than when Calvin's parents see him and he's stuffed.

[–]krispinwah 93 points94 points ago

I always liked to think that Hobbes was actually real and only showed his true form to Calvin.

[–]aekitten 38 points39 points ago

Duh!

[–]confusedX 15 points16 points ago

wait.... he's not real?

[–]Seameese 7 points8 points ago

I always like to think he was a pooka, much like Harvey.

[–]InfintySquared 1 point2 points ago

You know, that makes SO MUCH SENSE now. I'm going to have to go back and read the classic strips with this in mind. Thanks!

[–]JesterAzazel 31 points32 points ago

Because he already knows that Hobbes comes to life?

Or maybe Hobbs doesn't really come to life, but it's Calvin's imagination. He hasn't lost it, even after 26 years so he still sees Hobbes as alive.

[–]trampus1 44 points45 points ago

Maybe it's all in his mind.

The wife, the kid, all of it.

Maybe, he has lost it.

[–]The_Classy_Pirate 18 points19 points ago

Well fuck you, too!

[–]danielito19 6 points7 points ago

this is almost as bad as the ed edd and eddy purgatory idea

[–]Rhadamanthys 5 points6 points ago

Oh god, that episode took my mind's virginity

[–]TheRadler 1 point2 points ago

the what?

[–]CommentsAndShit 2 points3 points ago

Not sure whether to upvote for brilliance or downvote for crushing my heart ._.

[–]caseyfw 3 points4 points ago

A la that series of Garfield comics that reveal what's really going on?

[–]man_bear 0 points1 point ago

The really creepy part about that Garfield comic strip series is that, that is my day of birth...( Cue ominious music.)

[–]WendyLRogers3 0 points1 point ago

Or maybe now he has profound schizophrenia.

[–]austeregrim 109 points110 points ago

Onions. I don't know why, but, onions.

[–]merlinblack 40 points41 points ago

I know, who brings onions to work?

[–]StarBarbershop 30 points31 points ago

What the fuck man they're in the dorms to....

[–]Fus_Ro_Dude18 17 points18 points ago*

Crap someone needs to keep them out of the office. The fourth one is where i lost it.

[–]SanchoPandas 10 points11 points ago

Wow. These onions really made my day. Seems like the office is full of 'em.

[–]Kryten_2X4B_523P 10 points11 points ago

[–]ALT-F-X 3 points4 points ago

It'd be funnier if they were photoshopped to being crying. Just saying.

[–]Sadonyoriik 0 points1 point ago

This needs to be done.

[–]JalapenoPenutButter 1 point2 points ago

[–]Cobek 10 points11 points ago

3 really got to me. Ahhh nostalgia.

[–]OneWarning13 1 point2 points ago

These comics just make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside, like everything's somehow alright with the world :)

[–]I_cut_onions 1 point2 points ago

Whoops, so sorry.

[–]TrentRizzo 0 points1 point ago

Onions ended up in my room, thanks a lot

[–]downvotes_are_great 6 points7 points ago

Well when I saw that one I was o.0 because of what Hobbes said at the end.

[–]aekitten 38 points39 points ago

I figured he was talking about Calvinball!

[–]Fus_Ro_Dude18 2 points3 points ago

Lol I remember trying to play calvinball with my little sister I even looked up the rules on the library computers at school. http://www.bartel.org/calvinball/

[–]akolanko 5 points6 points ago

me and my bros played calvinball every weekend at the cottage. reading the rules made me mad, there should only be a ball and you can't use the same rule twice.

currently all of my bros and me are part of long form improv tropes, i would like to thank calvinball for that

[–]McPuccio 1 point2 points ago

I feel like because both of them gave imaginary personalities to their stuffed animals, they view Hobbes as real. I think it would've been a better touch to have him stuffed again in the last one.

[–]R3xz 0 points1 point ago

Could be because they're seen from Calvin's perspective, but yea, good eyes catching that.

[–]Hiphoppington -1 points0 points ago

Everything about these makes me uncomfortable. I just don't like Calvin and Hobbes being furthered or adapted in any way shape or form.

But yea, except that one panel. That's a smart touch.

[–]fizzlefist 28 points29 points ago

Is... Is that all?

:'(

[–]rackham_m 24 points25 points ago

Read all these, closed the tab and went on with other Redditing for about 5 minutes before I suddenly realized Calvin's wife is Susie.

[–]Gawdzillers 12 points13 points ago

EWWWW

[–]rackham_m 15 points16 points ago

Call a meeting of GROSs?

[–]IamSparticles 56 points57 points ago

Is the implication that Calvin grew up and married Susie? That's actually pretty awesome.

[–]pinkytheunicorn 36 points37 points ago

Hell yes. And all is right with the universe.

[–]koleye 4 points5 points ago

But then who does Hobbes have to marry?

[–]StrahansToothGap 28 points29 points ago

He's a tiger. He just wants tuna fish and smooches.

[–]wallychamp 9 points10 points ago

Muchas smooches.

[–]CommentsAndShit 4 points5 points ago

Tuna flavoured kisses

[–]Not_Steve 4 points5 points ago

Hopefully not Mr. Bun.

[–]lizduckchong 3 points4 points ago

Hence Bacon having Mr. Bun.

[–]IamSparticles 0 points1 point ago

Oh man, I didn't even catch that. Nice.

[–]cheezewizz2000 48 points49 points ago

Cassus, I don't know who you are, where you are or what you have done or will do in your life, know that for posting these I love you. In a totally bromantic, little bit creepy way if you're a dude, and in a similarly creepy way if you're a chick.

[–]cassus_fett[S] 22 points23 points ago

Lol im a dude, and yes, i was also cutting onions by the last one

[–]synthion 29 points30 points ago

I love you. Total homo.

[–]cheezewizz2000 0 points1 point ago

No, brah, it's bromosexual.

[–]Bawbert 6 points7 points ago

Thank you.

[–]TwoManShoe 3 points4 points ago

What's this weird little warm fuzzy spot inside me? It kind of feels like something that was around when I was a kid but I can't quite put my finger on it.

[–]MAcFuzion 2 points3 points ago

why are we not linking to pants are over rated with these comics?

[–]syriquez 1 point2 points ago

There are a couple more Bacon & Hobbes comics floating around, though they obviously aren't done by the same person who did these.

[–]cassus_fett[S] 0 points1 point ago

i like these because they capture the feel of the old comics

[–]ienjoyedit 1 point2 points ago

I would upvote you more than once if that wasn't against the unbreakable laws of Reddit.

[–]knightskull 0 points1 point ago

The sappiness was nice for one comic, but after these three, it's obvious that sappiness was all this artist had in his arsenal.

[–]Flat_corp 43 points44 points ago

I got my first Calvin and Hobbes book when I was in the hospital literally on the verge of dieing from double lung pneumonia. A few weeks before I ended up in the hospital, I had went to my elementary school's book sale and saw it. Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat. Wanted that shit so bad. My parents refused to buy it for me, because they were cheap as fuck and didn't think I should be reading comics. It was all multiplication tables and writing essays every night, (I was in fourth grade at the time.) When I finally was awake long enough (I was sleeping around 23 hours a day for a good half a month) to be able to be aware that they were visiting, they brought the book with them. I spent my entire hospital visit reading that book and watching the Three Stooges. It was one of the scariest times in my life, but Calvin & Hobbes got me through it. I got out the day before Christmas, man was that a bitchin Christmas gift.

[–]Fushigidane 4 points5 points ago

Onions all up in this comment section.

[–]Stufreddy 60 points61 points ago

Seeing Calvin take Hobbes out of the closet makes me sad. Just the fact that he was in the closet in the first place.

[–]VAPossum 74 points75 points ago

But he kept him--and he kept him close by. For 26 years.

That makes me happy.

[–]blazedwest 11 points12 points ago

I just passed on my stuffed animal to my son, i got it back in 1986...

[–]Pinyaka 35 points36 points ago*

Hankys on standby

EDIT: This is not an actual Watterson C&H. It's a fan's idea for the last strip.

EDIT 2: Changed link to a version without a fake signature. Thanks to Nskk for providing a link to the unsigned version.

[–]Qqxam 20 points21 points ago

Broke my heart :(

[–]RatherLargeBoots 9 points10 points ago

It's fake, don't worry!

[–]Qqxam 0 points1 point ago

Oh thank god. Childhood =/= ruined

[–]Nskk 8 points9 points ago

That's not actually by Bill Watterson, the signature in the 4th panel is fake. Here's a link to the original w/o it. Very depressing nonetheless...

[–]Pinyaka 1 point2 points ago

I knew it wasn't a Watterson original. I just grabbed an easy link from a GIS and didn't notice there was a signature on it. Thanks for pointing this out.

[–]Nskk 1 point2 points ago

No problem! I didn't want to insinuate that you were being misleading. I just wasn't sure if it was real, so I thought I'd investigate myself.

[–]Leap_Year_2012_Test 1 point2 points ago

http://www.imgur.com/yd51P Don't break out the onions just yet.

[–]MaireadRossa 1 point2 points ago

...there's a C&H strip I haven't seen? But I thought I owed all the treasury books! Which one is this from?!?

[–]Pinyaka 1 point2 points ago

It's fanfic. Someone's idea for the last strip.

[–]mitt-romney 1 point2 points ago

Manly tears...

[–]Ferretpuke 0 points1 point ago

First panel, looks like Susie.

[–]Propolandante 72 points73 points ago

I like pretty much everything about this except one thing: The Donald Trump reference. It totally goes against Bill Watterson's style in Calvin and Hobbes. It dates the comic, and while being political isn't off-limits, talking about specific politicians or businessmen absolutely is. Especially in a negative way.

Comics #2-4 are flawless though!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

It's strikes me as a nod at Bloom County where Binikley would often wake his father up with concerns about the various politicians/celebrities who were in his closet.

[–]Big_Oil 0 points1 point ago

I was feeling nostalgic for a little bloom county a few weeks ago so I bought several of the books. I plan to go through them this weekend.

[–]zoozoo458 1 point2 points ago

I don't like Donald Trump, but you're right.

[–]Juspeczyk 3 points4 points ago

Right! That's why they're so timeless!

[–]Sargon_Rose 44 points45 points ago

Ahh, Right in the childhood.

[–]wlesnia1 29 points30 points ago

I like to think he ended up marrying susie (or whoever that girl in his class was).

Sorry if it's being implied/said outright and I'm just a fool.

[–]Plexicraft 63 points64 points ago

It's implied in the first comic where Bacon says "Mr. Bun isn't scary enough" to protect her from the monsters in the closet.

Mr. Bun was Susie Derkin's stuffed animal. :D

[–]wlesnia1 18 points19 points ago

Oh right, I gotta brush up on my C&H! Not cyanide and happiness.

[–]archangel913 41 points42 points ago

Calvin and Hobbes

Cyanide and Happiness

My mind, it just asploded.

[–]cynicalMIND 15 points16 points ago

explosmed

[–]Stackware 1 point2 points ago

A mix of exploded and orgasmed.

[–]gid13 1 point2 points ago

Obviously. That's CN-&:)

[–]Fus_Ro_Dude18 0 points1 point ago

lol I remember the strip where susie invited calvin and hobbes to have a tea party with her and mister bun. then a dog came and took hobbes and susie found him.

[–]VAPossum 8 points9 points ago

That's definitely Susie, but the Mr. Bun thing was a good catch.

[–]Viatos 5 points6 points ago

It's being implied to the degree that it might as well be said outright, but we knew that.

That was always a destiny they shared, carried between them by messenger snowballs.

[–]memymineown 4 points5 points ago

I wish they wouldn't make more Bacon and Hobbes comics.

Mr. Watterson ended his comic strip for a reason. The author of this badly made knockoff should respect that decision.

[–]quailman03 45 points46 points ago

I wonder what Bill Waterson would think of these. I'd like to think he'd be proud.

[–]cbrandolino 52 points53 points ago

He's alive. Ask him, I dare you.

[–]NeonDisease 4 points5 points ago

IAMA request Bill Watterson?

[–]junkit33 31 points32 points ago

I'd like to think he'd be proud.

Are you kidding? He'd hate these with the passion of 1000 burning suns. He can't stand his characters being used in anything that he wasn't directly involved in.

Also, he ended the strip for a reason. Yes, these are nostalgically cute, but artistically they add absolutely nothing to the story, and risk detracting quite a bit.

[–]j8sadm632b 9 points10 points ago

Right? Calvin and Hobbes, as it stands, is pretty much flawless. Full stop. I hate these comics because they can't hold a candle to the original series; it's just fanfiction. It's like if Nickelback covered Reddit's beloved Bohemian Rhapsody. Sure maybe they do it really sincerely and try to be respectful, and it doesn't technically impact the original work, but it's ruined now.

[–]banjaloupe -5 points-4 points ago

It's not that they're fanfiction, since fanfiction is about telling new stories with known characters. These are just "Hey, remember that thing about Calvin & Hobbes that you liked! Look, he's all grown up now but still is doing that same thing but he's married to Susie now and they have a kid oh ho ho how touching." It's not even sappy, it's just like, derivative and bland while trying to be sappy.

I don't usually hate on stuff people made like this because I'm sure the author put in a lot of work, and they did a good job emulating Watterson's drawing style. I just can't stand this empty sentimentalism, especially given the immense amount of humor and heart in Calvin & Hobbes itself.

[–]PhaetonsFolly -1 points0 points ago

I won’t say that these comics are perfect, they do need so refining, but I believe you’re over critical of these comics. The Calvin and Hobbes comics were amazing, but I would hardly call them flawless. There is nothing so sacred that an artist can’t recreate it in a new and compelling way. This artist has handled Calvin and Hobbes in tasteful and respectful manner and honors the original work just by making this. I will even go as far as to say that these comics are more powerful than most of the Calvin and Hobbes comics. The third comic shows that Calvin has to face the fact that he is now an adult, but part of that kid we knew and loved is still in there. All these comics show that Calvin and Hobbes still resonates with its readers to this day, but eventually that flame will run out unless a new iteration stands up.

[–]junkit33 0 points1 point ago

The third comic shows that Calvin has to face the fact that he is now an adult

Which is precisely where this whole thing derails. The Calvin character is never supposed to grow up.

It would be like making a movie about Peter Pan as 55 year old divorced father of 3. Just... no...

People who like this grossly miss the intent of the original.

[–]ryegye24 4 points5 points ago

I thought he just hated those bumper stickers because they completely went against the spirit of the comic, not just because they were done without his permission. I got the sense that he would approve of things which weren't done purely out of financial interest or which tried to stay faithful and respectful to the original.

[–]HappyDays7 2 points3 points ago

Bumper stickers?

[–]kceb 0 points1 point ago

[–]HappyDays7 1 point2 points ago

Oh, THAT. Yeah. Okay then.

[–]Flying_Robo_Waffle 0 points1 point ago

At a lot of beach shops/middle of the mall sales carts they sell bumper stickers with a badly drawn version of Calvin peeing on things, such as a sports team that city doesn't like. It's awful.

[–]junkit33 0 points1 point ago

No - he's never had a good word to say about any use. It's not just about money, he's simply an artist that is extremely protective of his characters.

[–]Hiphoppington 0 points1 point ago

This is EXACTLY how I feel about them. Calvin and Hobbes is in a weird way very sacred to me. I saw a lot of myself in Calvin growing up and hell, I even have a daughter now I get the nostalgia on the table here but...

It's just not right.

[–]LeonardoFibonacci 2 points3 points ago

I don't think so. I think it's blasphemy of the worst kind to say that Calvin ever grows up, and it's hard to imagine that I'm more conservative than the creator.

[–]wackylol 1 point2 points ago

His one fear was that the characters would be cheapened through overexposure. That was his one fear! AND YOU BLEW IT REDDIT

[–]nybadfish 1 point2 points ago

I'm pretty sure he'd be pissed that some hack bastardized his comic.

[–]larpas 0 points1 point ago

Sadly, this is probably the most likely scenario.

[–]Craigellachie 5 points6 points ago

Bill was very stingy when it came to merchandising his art. But somehow I'd like to think he'd be OK with this.

[–]WickedIcon 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, this is pretty much the most respectful tribute humanly possible. Everything from the art style to the humor is dead on and I imagine Bill would be fine with it.

[–]fulge -1 points0 points ago

He is not. He's fucking embarrassed for whoever created these.

[–]Jason207 0 points1 point ago

Has he actually commented in these or are you just inferring? I'm just curious. I thought that l'd heard he's basically gone hermit and has no interest/exposure to Internet culture at all.

[–]dancefuckerdance 8 points9 points ago

awww man that makes me happy.

[–]Juspeczyk 5 points6 points ago

I may be an idiot but is there a reason his daughter is named bacon or....

[–]ryegye24 2 points3 points ago

I'm assuming it's a nickname, but it's because Calvin, Hobbes, and Bacon are all names of famous philosophers.

[–]banjaloupe 5 points6 points ago

See it's "funny" cuz there's a philosopher named Bacon, and Calvin and Hobbes are also the names of philosophers. Plus who names their kid Bacon right???????? Calvin is sooooo goofy.

(Where the original was subtle, this comic is blatant.)

[–]Hazel-Rah 1 point2 points ago

Most likely names after Francis Bacon, a philosopher.

Calvin and Hobbes were named after John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes, of theology and philosophy fame

[–]fido5150 1 point2 points ago

Calvin, Hobbes and Bacon are all philosophers.

I think they're just carrying on with that theme.

[–]Hiphoppington 1 point2 points ago

Poorly.

[–]rightrabbit 8 points9 points ago

Just a few years before these comics take place: Not as nostalgic

[–]VCS777 1 point2 points ago

That is just pure onion, man.

[–]anniebananie 14 points15 points ago

Ladyboner for adult Calvin. DAE?

[–]relativelysapien 17 points18 points ago

hell I get a man boner for the whole concept

[–]Kirkenburger74 6 points7 points ago

Manly tears and a man boner.

How I live with myself...

[–]whiteson 1 point2 points ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]Scrayton 3 points4 points ago

It's not gay. It's like being a totally straight man and wanting to bang NPH.

[–]whiteson 0 points1 point ago

I'm not saying it's gay, but.. idk. i just dont associate man boners with c&h. and i would love to bang NPH.

[–]MrRoboto714 6 points7 points ago

Here's their website. http://www.pantsareoverrated.com/

[–]HappyDays7 0 points1 point ago

I was really excited when I was introduced to these guys (via Reddit.) It was a great read and I loved the art. I was so bitterly crushed when they ended it. Like, no one warned me. Crushed.

[–]ignore_this_post 10 points11 points ago

I kind of loathe this webcomic trying to hijack Calvin and Hobbes instead of coming up with original content. It really pales in comparison to the original and adds nothing compelling. Bring on the downvotes!

[–]WITHYOURASSHOLE 1 point2 points ago

It also lacks the subtle humor and thoughtfulness of the original, in exchange for sappy sugary childhood innocence. Yes, C&H was full of innocence, but it was how Watterson flavored what he wanted to say, not the sole point of the entire comic.

[–]nightpooll 2 points3 points ago

Calvin's shorts.....is the same design of his old t-shirt...:')

[–]Fjosnisse 2 points3 points ago

Albacore is a type of tuna.

[–]mitt-romney 2 points3 points ago

I like them too, but I can't get past the fact that her name is Bacon. It sounds so stupid.

[–]silkforcalde 11 points12 points ago

I wish, actually, that people would stop posting this incredibly horrid pale imitation of a classic work. This actively pisses me off.

[–]fulge 0 points1 point ago

Agreed.

[–]j8sadm632b 6 points7 points ago

This is a repost, so I'm going to repost what I said last time:

I'll be honest, I don't. Calvin and Hobbes is one of the few things I consider unimpeachably great, but I accept that that door is closed now, and whenever I see something else added to its universe I cringe a little, because it can only decrease the quality as a whole.

I don't mean to be snooty, but I don't like other people interpreting for me how that world ends up. The strip ends with them commenting on how the world is like a sheet of paper for them to draw on, and it finishes in such a way that's almost staggering in its open-endedness. To me, these Hobbes and Bacon strips are the authors taking those infinite possibilities and narrowing it down to what I consider an ultimately mundane answer to the question of what happens next, just for the sake of continuing the story.

To me, Calvin and Hobbes is perfect, and I'm not willing to keep consuming more and more of that world until it isn't anymore.

[–]nybadfish 0 points1 point ago

Well put, couldn't have said it better myself.

[–]mixedchops 9 points10 points ago

Sorry to be "that guy" but this was posted a month ago in this subreddit as well as here and here. Also this thing.

[–]kukul 10 points11 points ago

No no no no, no NO

This reeks of some cheesy as fuck fanfic awfulness.

[–]Tyler_H 6 points7 points ago

It's so... So beautiful...

[–]Wiggitywwack 1 point2 points ago

"Bad Gateway" Dead Link?

[–]being_ironic 1 point2 points ago

as if hobbes would have been introduced from the depths of a closet by after she'd grown that much.

[–]Phoequinox 1 point2 points ago

I never read Calvin And Hobbes growing up. Somehow never appealed to me. It actually appeals to me more now as an adult. And seeing it re-imagined always makes me wanna cry. I guess it's the Brave Little Toaster effect (fuck Toy Story, BLT came first. . . mmm. . . BLT).

[–]Heavyrain63 1 point2 points ago

Donald trump is a pretty scary guy

[–]filmproducer 1 point2 points ago

I love how the 3rd last and second last panel have a sexual reference..

[–]XxAeronautxX 1 point2 points ago

Awesome. That is all.

[–]cjcrashoveride 1 point2 points ago

Then link to the actual site so they can make money off of their creations you douche.

http://www.pantsareoverrated.com/archive/2011/05/10/hobbes-and-bacon/

[–]AmberWings 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! I was looking for that!

[–]malconsidine 5 points6 points ago

What the fuck is this horrible, cloying bullshit?

[–]garbs4444 1 point2 points ago

I enjoy how when I read this, the voices in my head for each character changed except for Hobbes'.

[–]Cool_and_the_Gang 3 points4 points ago

I'm stone cold with all the "onion cutting" posts on Reddit. This fucking made me cry.

[–]SophiePT 1 point2 points ago

Thank you for introducing me to these. They are wonderful. I grew up with Calvin and Hobbes and will always have a soft spot for them.

[–]theElegantWorm 1 point2 points ago

No.

[–]fulge 2 points3 points ago

1000x

[–]MrRoboto714 -1 points0 points ago

I actually know the people who do these comics on a personal level.

[–]AnalogRevolution -1 points0 points ago

Why didn't you stop them?

[–]MrRoboto714 0 points1 point ago

They weren't wearing any pants.......

[–]alligatorfight 2 points3 points ago

What's really sad is Pants are Overrated is over :(

[–]Fushigidane 0 points1 point ago

Any information on why?

[–]LogicalAce 2 points3 points ago

I teared up reading this. I grew up on Calvin & Hobbes, and these were really well done.

[–]scolionophobics 1 point2 points ago

Man im really sorry to say this, but i really hate these comics. Its so cliche, and its sappy beyond belief. I mean come on. Married Susie Derkins? cause that was the joke all along right?? they had some sort of prepubescent sexual tension? HAHAHA... Now his daughter needs like an imaginary friend? cause like... the spirit of childhood maintains? Awww so adorable. Also Calvin has some of his childhood grossness and impishness still and he found his perfect soul mate! Ay thats just great!

head smack

[–]Fedcom 2 points3 points ago

Well aren't you a justt a little bit jaded

[–]scolionophobics 0 points1 point ago

Ohhh Yeah I guess I should let these schmaltzy rip offs open my heart a bit...

[–]fulge 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit. I never even realized that was Susie. Passive disgust has turned to active hatred.

Does anyone connect Calvin and his family in this to Geoff from Rooster Teeth and his family? IDK, but it made me smile. ^ _ ^

This made me so sad.

[–]componentfield 0 points1 point ago

i actually know the guy who made this. friend of a friend and all that. i doubt he'd make any more.. sadly. seriously though, nostalgia.

Every time someone makes a Calvin and Hobbes fan-anything, it's going to be polarizing. I personally like this much better than the Calvin peeing on stuff window stickers.

This makes me happy inside

Who names their kid Bacon?

[–]CMGangstaRap 0 points1 point ago

When I was a kid, my brother told me Hobbes wasn't alive, but a figment of Calvin's imagination...

I still get sad about it. :(

I have never been a big fan of Calvin and Hobbes. I think there is little humor to be found in making light of a child with a severe mental disorder. Hallucinations require medications as well as therapy to cure. To allow a child to carry on pretending stuffed animals are sentient self aware species is deplorable.

Bill Watterson is a real cunt pounder for making profit off a cartoon depiction of childhood mental disease.
