Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

American here - my Dad joined the RCAF in 1938 so he could go kill Germans. One of the few Americans for whom WWII was a 7-year war. Canada is awesome. The Canadian military even more so. They ROCKED on D-Day.

Thank your dad for me. please. I feel the Canadian military's contributions are vastly underestimated in the world wars.

He's since passed but thanks! In '41 the US sent a train across all the provinces collecting servicemen that were willing to put the starts and stripes back on. He boarded the Marine Corps car and flew with them for the duration.

And I couldn't agree more on the world's appreciation of Canada's warriors. Incredibly well trained, equipped, and motivated. I WOULD NOT want to be across a field from them taking incoming rounds. Nope.

I firmly believe that it's sheer existence and location prevented the Cold War from getting hot.

I was friends with someone that lost their life in Afghanistan. This picture brought tears to my eyes immediately. My heart aches for anyone and everyone that has lost a loved one in this war. Thank you for your service.

Wow, there are a record number of douchebags commenting on this post.

Looking at many of the comments it seems that they are actually not that douchy ideas said in a douchy way. We are not at this mans funeral. There are times to say things and times not to say them. This is an internet forum removed from the event. I think it's possible to have compassion for both the man that died and the man that lost a brother and ask questions like: Did he kill anyone else's brother? Why did he sign up to begin with? Are photos like this propaganda? I think the worst thing to do is to create an air where it's not ok to question the military and, in America at least, that is most definitely the case. In my opinion that is far worse than some douchy comment on an internet forum. Remember that the people makign those comments are doing it out of anger, if they had their way that man would be alive right now and the other man would still have a brother. Just something to think about.

I can barely fathom the pain he must be going through, carrying someone so near and dear to him for his whole life, now deceased, seperated by only a thin layer of wood. Sadness like this, it's just unbearable to see.

I bet a lot of other men lost their brothers due to the bullets being fired in the many, many wars the US are waging.

Don't know why you got down voted for the Lebowski reference

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

because (american) reddiots have a knee jerk reaction to anyone who posts anything but praise about the "heroes of the war" - soldiers.

it's funny how their sense and logic completely disappear when it comes to things like that. they become like religious people (who defend their religion without any logic or reason behind it) they are constantly bashing.

either that or there are so many young redditors here that they dont know about lebowski..whcih is even sadder..

fuck the war but thank you for your service is all they are capable of.their preprogramed minds (years of indoctrination by saluting to a fucking flag in school)do not go beyond that.

I'm not sure of how I should feel about such a personal moment being posted on reddit, emotional and touching as it may be.
