Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

I want a 60" just for the hell of it. just imagine only seeing crosshairs.

Problem with that is that the 60" will still only be 1920x1080. The pixel density is way lower than a computer monitor at that size. Also, it's so big that you'd have to come up with a creative way to fasten it so that you wouldn't have to sit on a couch, or strain your neck looking at it.

Now upgrade to a 30" 2560x1600 monitor.

I went from a 15" CRT monitor to a 45" LCD monitor. All I can say is that you notice a lot more things!

Get a 16:10 monitor (1920x1200). You can play games in 1080 windowed mode and still have access to your task bar and stuff.

Dual 21.5" monitors here, i have such a hard time using the computers on campus.

Double Full HD at ~21" is awesome. And it's not even that expensive. I paid 300€ for two very good Asus monitors.

It also helped me with quite a serious case of procastrination - now I can watch series and do some light work at the same time. I actually fell more motivated and concentrated.

That's what I felt when I upgraded from 19" to 24"!

21" is still tiny. I use a 26" monitor/TV and for my next upgrade, I'm thinking of getting a 30" TV. Bigger is almost certainly better when it comes to monitors. Though smaller monitors can often look much sharper, there's just something about sitting in front of a monitor that almost fills your field of view that makes PC games so much more fun.

Keep in mind that if you want to do more and have more stuff on your monitor, higher resolution is more important than bigger screen size.

Right, but we're talking about gaming here. Also, a big monitor is going to be high res (unless you get a 720p TV, but don't do that).

I agree that higher resolution is better for gaming, but the consensus in the pc gaming subs is that 24" is the sweet spot for 1080 monitors, and once you get bigger than that, it's good to look into higher resolutions (2560x1440 for instance).

Bigger is far from always better, there's a certain point where it just gets uncomfortable to use. It varies based on how far away from your screen you are.

If only I had the money man trust me haha, might save up for a 30+ for main screen and use the 21 for the secondary.

Actually, I sort of have the opposite problem you're having now. My older 1920x1080 screen is going bad, and I need to change to a 1280x800 that we have, but I'm milking this old thing for all it's got. I can't go back now. Not after so long.

I think the most notable thing was the brightness difference, not the size difference, between my TN panels and the e-IPS panels I'm using now. I had one TN and one e-IPS on at the same time, and the whites on the TN panel looked positively gray in comparison.

You could have done better than 21 inches, 24 is the standard now.

Hence why I was still stuck with my 16" gaming laptop, I'm poor. Spent around $1600 total for the whole thing, and now I'm broke again.

I've always preferred somewhat smaller monitors. Mostly because smaller monitors are not out to burn my eyes out.

Yeah the new monitor was rough on my eyes for the first few days but I'm used to it now, thinking of dual screening just for more awesomeness.

Once you go dual screen you never go back.

I can second this. Even when I used to use an extra monitor and my laptop screen, it was amazing. I miss it so, but the heat my laptop was putting off while connected to all the neat gizmos I own was too hot for my comfort, so now it sits nicely upside down, and remains cool.

Still miss two screens, though...

Exactly. And the other thing is, when you keep going bigger you only want to keep going. I'm capped out at 2560 X 1440 for the moment.

Right now I'm 'watching' Seinfeld on screen two. One doesn't pick it all up, but it's nice to have going.

As soon as one has to do something multi-task intensive the second screen pays for itself quickly. Not so much for a third screen though, in my experience at least. 27" and 22" if you're interested.
