I just used a wire coat hanger for mine, undid it, then looped it around a couple times. I ended up having to use it one time to unlock my car when I had locked my keys in it.

Before my parents sold me their Subaru, they were on a trip in Canada where a piece of the heat shield came undone and was flapping (fapping?) on the pavement as they drove. A dude on the side of the road at a farm stand fixed it with one of those super long metal twist-ties and they forgot all about it. 5 years later, that twist tie finally broke and I had to put a screw in there. Well played, Canadian farmer!

OK. Now imagine being in the car behind you when this piece of wood hits your windshield at 50mph. Even if it would not do any harm to the windshield, the sudden maneuver in order to avoid the hit causes a dangerous situation on the road.

A spanish friend of mine thats an engineering student went to saint louis to finish his degree, and when he came back he told me he'd grown to respect rednecks.

His reasoning was that for all the stupid shit rednecks are famed for, and their lack of formal education, no one ever gives them credit for their ingenuity. He explained that he'd seen countless examples of shit that was broken being fixed in the most insane ways, but that at the end of the day, without holding a "degree" they always managed to get stuff to work.

So, this one day driving along the interstate, when I see a car suddenly role into the ditch. Upon arriving, we knew it was bad with at least one dead and two others hurt. Reason for the car flipping over? Car infront of it's muffler fell off and the car behind it hit it causing and lodge in a wheel well and cause the car to quickly jerk to the right.
