This quote is misattributed.

This was one of my favorite quotes. Now I want to know who actually said it.

George H. Smith:

My wager says that you should in all cases wager on reason and accept the logical consequence, which in this case is atheism. If there's no god, you're correct; if there's an indifferent god, you won't suffer; if there's a just god, you have nothing to fear from the honest use of your reason; and if there's an unjust god, you have much to fear but so does the Christian.

So who SHOULD it be attributed then?

[–]Gromlick 1 point2 points ago

It seems to be an anonymous internet quote. Popped up a couple of years back. It's a lovely sentiment all the same.

This is similar Pascal's Wager, but with a more optimistic mindset.

Or the Epicurean Paradox phrased in moral normative terms.

This quote makes me happy every time I see it again.

The strongest proof against evolution is that this statement, clearly reasoned and sound, has not outcompeted religious dogma and superstition despite having almost 2000 years to do so

Well, it's natural selection, not best selection. our airway pipe is accessed the same way our stomach is. Our genitals are right next to our asses.

Just because it's better doesn't mean it will happen.

This quote was one of the things that helped me through my deconversion.

My favorite quote of all time, is by this man. "Nothing befalls a man except what is in his nature to endure." It's gotten me through a lot of hard times.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

[–]ubergreen 0 points1 point ago

Can we be done with this now? Please? It just lowers my opinion of r/atheism every time this gets posted.

[–]Jrat143 -1 points0 points ago

Good job, I like this, a karma point for you sir.

How many times does a man have to upvote this to the front page?

[–]supergenius1337 -1 points0 points ago

This is just my opinion, but for me personally, ALL the times. Compared to some of the other quotes on r/atheism, this one isn't on the front page nearly as much and it is a pretty good quote.
