Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

I remember seeing this on 4chan back in 2010. This is an old image. In fact, they had fun with it too.

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/12749386/images/1289432106480.jpg

And the penultimate image:

All of these are SFW by the way.

[–]thisismycoolface 26 points27 points ago

I don't think penultimate means what you think it means. It means "second to last", not "the most awesome to the ultimate."

[–]TheBatIsI 21 points22 points ago

asjklfsdlfjlg goddamnit. Well, I'll just leave that mark of shame up there for everyone to see.

[–]thisismycoolface 8 points9 points ago

It's cool brah, everyone will be waiting for the ultimate image though :P

[–]KnightsWhoSayNii 54 points55 points ago

[–]Morlad 11 points12 points ago

Guild Wars 2 ftw!

[–]EisforPants 3 points4 points ago

NIPPLES for the NIPPLES GOD (who is, in fact, one of the chaos gods)

[–]manueslapera 5 points6 points ago

He likes to be called "Slaanesh".

[–]ginja_ninja 57 points58 points ago

Reminds me of Morgoth and a Balrog from LOTR.

[–]Yamez 98 points99 points ago

...Morgoth and a Balrog from the Silmarillion

[–]Dolgthvari 65 points66 points ago

Morgoth and Gothmog

[–]gothmog1114 35 points36 points ago

I'm relevant!!!

[–]Tysander 18 points19 points ago

So are the other 1113 gothmogs.

<.<

[–]Fuelogy 1 point2 points ago

Thats what they want you to think.

[–]papa-jones 7 points8 points ago

Looked it up to make sure. Upvote for accuracy.

[–]cycopl 5 points6 points ago

TIL that Gothmog is a Tolkien character and not a moogle that listens to Bauhaus.

[–]leedguitars 0 points1 point ago

I thought he was the guy in that picture you always see, "gothasaurus" or something like that.

[–]zedlord 5 points6 points ago

Or Melkor and Gothmog.

[–]jupiterjones 4 points5 points ago

We don't say that name anymore. It's Morgoth Bauglir.

[–]Yamez 0 points1 point ago

The other option is Belegurth. The Great Death.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]burnso 0 points1 point ago

ಠ_ಠ

And I thought I was a nerd...

[–]Yamez 0 points1 point ago

His name was changed just before the Noldorin Migration after he'd destroyed the two Trees and stole a Silmaril from Fenwe. When he created Gothmog and the other Balgrogs, he had been known as Morgoth for quite some time.

[–]AndroidDown 2 points3 points ago

Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra!

[–]Bedeone 13 points14 points ago

I've listened to the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit audiobooks, but when I started out with the Silmarillion it was like a preacher reading from the bible. Does it actually turn in to a story any time later?

[–]franklyshankly 9 points10 points ago

Parts of it do. Kind of like bible stories...

[–]DarraignTheSane 4 points5 points ago

You should read some of the "History of Middle Earth" books instead. Same stories as the Silmarillion, with some different details here and there, told in narrative form.

[–]Adm_Chookington -2 points-1 points ago*

Not really at all. It's a lot less interesting than the Hobbit or LOTR.

EDIT: I read the entire thing. It's a completely different type of book and just that it isn't as interesting as the other novels.

[–]YesImSardonic 7 points8 points ago

You didn't get very far into it if you think that.

[–]Adm_Chookington 0 points1 point ago

No, I read the whole thing.

[–]Bedeone 0 points1 point ago

If I recall correctly, the Silmarillion was a work originally started by Tolkien, who then passed away. It was then later finished by his son. Could be because of this?

[–]wheelinthesky 10 points11 points ago

I think it's because the Silmarillion was written to be more a history book for a fictional world. The novel the son helped finish was 'The Children of Hurin'

[–]Bedeone 0 points1 point ago

So I see... Might pick that one up.

[–]Yamez 1 point2 points ago

careful, it's three times more tragic than Oedipus Rex ever was.

[–]Bedeone 1 point2 points ago

Is that a bad or a good thing?

[–]worriedblowfish 1 point2 points ago

Its a great story.. it really is. Read it and you will see.

[–]Yamez 0 points1 point ago

It's one of the best stories ever told. It's just not exactly a happy one.

[–]Anguirel 0 points1 point ago

Not for a fictional world actually. Tolkien said many times that Middle-Earth was supposed to be on Earth itself.

Just an imaginary past, not a different world.

[–]njm1314 6 points7 points ago

I thought for sure that is what this was.

[–]varmcola 11 points12 points ago

Lucky for people with too much time on thier hands, like me, the gentleman carries an axe. Morgoth used a hammer named Grom in Silmarillion, this eliminates confusion...

I need to read more schooly stuff and less fiction..

[–]Anguirel 16 points17 points ago

Grond

FTFY.

Also, the ram used in Return Of The King by Sauron's army to open the Minas Tirith gate is named after the hammer.

[–]Arcanoi 8 points9 points ago

I like to imagine that it was in fact the same hammer. Maybe sculpted down or something.

[–]varmcola 1 point2 points ago

Me too.

"The Ainu Melkor could initially take any shape, but his first recorded form was "...as a mountain that wades in the sea and has its head above the clouds and is clad in ice and crowned with smoke and fire; and the light of the eyes of Melkor was like a flame that withers with heat and pierces with a deadly cold."

  • From the wiki, he was large enough to wield a hammer of that size apparently. I'm going with the hammerhead as ram deal!

[–]Somehero 0 points1 point ago

But then how did Fingolfin fight him one vs one at the gates of angband and dodge its blows by rolling?

[–]akaWhitey 1 point2 points ago

Think more shadow of the colossus...

[–]leedguitars 0 points1 point ago

Aw man I loved that game.

[–]varmcola 0 points1 point ago

Melkor, like all large things*, move slowly, which allowed Fingolfin to predict where Grond would strike. He then rolled out of the way.

*Source: A lot of video games.

[–]Somehero 0 points1 point ago

Plus, his first recorded shape? Thats before he touched the silmaril and took on his permanent form. The description you posted was from when he was creating the earth with the other ainur.

[–]zedlord 0 points1 point ago

That could be Sauron behind him.

[–]sungodra_ 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of Dark Souls.

Dark Knight top, Ceaseless Discharge bottom.

[–]CornFlakesR1337 9 points10 points ago

here's a tricky question...which one is looking for the frisbee?

[–]TheSuitGuy 25 points26 points ago

Given the aerodynamic properties of the frisbee, I believe the gentleman on top is the one who lost it, whilst the one below is looking for it.

[–]sungodra_ 30 points31 points ago

The guy below is like

"I CAN'T FIND IT LOL"

[–]Octomon 7 points8 points ago

I picture him talking in a scooby doo voice.

"I RUN-RO!"

[–]hostergaard 2 points3 points ago

In my head he is Zorc

[–]snailboy 4 points5 points ago

Yes, but given the nature of frisbees to get lost in high places (ie, roofs), I assumed that the dude higher up in the picture was the one looking for it, to no avail. Their respective body language makes it work both ways, really.

[–]PicklesMcBoots 1 point2 points ago

He is searching from above as his friend asks where it landed. There, they are BOTH looking for the frisbee!

[–]rinic 4 points5 points ago

As a disc golfer I can confirm this. One of them threw the disc, lost it in the lava, and they're both looking for it.

[–]puckhead 2 points3 points ago

Problem is that 38% of the time it's in a spot that makes absolutely no sense based on where you thought you saw the disc head towards.

[–]BullpenCatcher 1 point2 points ago

Problem is that 83% of the time it's in a spot that makes absolutely no sense based on where you thought you saw the disc head towards.

FTFY

[–]puckhead 1 point2 points ago

Yea, that's probably more accurate. Haven't played in a few years.

[–]rinic 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, the discs tend to go just out of view, hit a trampoline, hitch a ride on an airplane, and then come down 80 feet away from where you saw it disappear.

[–]NorthboundFox 4 points5 points ago

I have a PhD in both Frisbee Physics and Critical Gumball Dynamics and I can confirm this.

[–]Zeldr 13 points14 points ago

I smiled.

What game is this, by the way? Looks familiar. Sorry if that's a noobish question.

[–]teryxc[S] 38 points39 points ago

guild wars 2! can't wait n.n

[–]Clockian 7 points8 points ago

This is really from GW2? I could have sworn I've seen this long ago.

[–]riplox 42 points43 points ago

It's been in development for 5 years, man.

[–]highTrolla 4 points5 points ago

This isn't Sauron yelling at Balrog? Cause this looks almost exactly like Sauron yelling at Balrog.

[–]rumnscurvy 4 points5 points ago

You mean this dude ?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Concept art, not in-game screenshot.

[–]sehrfine 1 point2 points ago

Two more weeks until pre order man!

[–]Weatherstation 2 points3 points ago

r/discgolf, bro.

[–]mrcheeseweasel -5 points-4 points ago

Yes what game is this.

[–]Mikkelet 4 points5 points ago

gw2

[–]cannibaljim 10 points11 points ago

Picture without text for those who want it.

[–]oditogre 2 points3 points ago

Ah, kudos!

[–]Matt4Sin 3 points4 points ago

Guild Wars 2! :D

[–]FusionXIV 2 points3 points ago

Made me think of this (Sluggy Freelance ftw).

[–]oditogre 2 points3 points ago

Made me think of this (Buttersafe).

And...wow...Sluggy Freelance, haven't looked at that in years.

[–]Fr4t 0 points1 point ago

One of my all time favorite comics

[–]PicklesMcBoots 0 points1 point ago

I briefly imagined (Buttersafe) to be some sort of trendy "Not Safe for Butter" thing. I am glad I was wrong.

[–]thesorrow312 2 points3 points ago

[–]mrcheeseweasel 2 points3 points ago

Everybody is saying that this is from gw2, but that doesn't mean anything to some people. I could be gears of war(but I don't think it is), or god of war, but I think it Guildwars 2.

[–]n3tm0nk3y 2 points3 points ago

I never did find that disc golf putter...

[–]Redean 25 points26 points ago

Upvote for GW2

[–]OGenerator02 5 points6 points ago

Hey guys! Did you know this is from Guild Wars 2!?

[–]sj2011 1 point2 points ago

I have this as the background on my Work VM. Its gotten a few laughs.

[–]Worlds_Best_Coffee 1 point2 points ago

This is one of my favorites. I wish "text in front of fantasy images, making them seem ridiculous and funny" was a meme.

[–]kinjala 1 point2 points ago

Pardon me, but can you enlighten my bloody ignorant self what might be the name of this game?

[–]stieruridir 3 points4 points ago

Guild Wars 2.

[–]Yakums 1 point2 points ago

Disc golf players know the feeling.

[–]BullpenCatcher 1 point2 points ago

As a disc golf player I can confirm this. Also, as a disc golf player subbed to both r/gaming and r/discgolf i had to double check where this was posted. lol

[–]Yakums 0 points1 point ago

Lol! I was at one course where the whole place was on the side of a mountain... made a bad putt and saw my disc roll literally 1000 ft away and launch off a cliff....

[–]jon819 5 points6 points ago

You know you're a badass viking when your horns have horns on them.

[–]SwitchesDF 1 point2 points ago

I think they're supposed to be antlers. But i suppose those are kind of like horns with horns. Maybe we're both right.

[–]SevenDeadlyNinjas 1 point2 points ago

Come at me bro!

No! You come at ME bro!

[–]knifegash 1 point2 points ago

Robert Baratheon kicking ass in Hell or wut?

[–]LASERTODD 0 points1 point ago

Is this from a Dungeons and Dragons book? God it looks familiar.

[–]moiax 16 points17 points ago

It is concept art for Guild Wars 2

[–]cabooseforlife 4 points5 points ago

If they made posters of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 concept art, I'd buy a hundred posters and cover every inch of wallspace in my house. Seriously, their concept team is amazing.

ninja edit: their*

[–]bryntheskits 2 points3 points ago

Is that right, GW2 shop? A 2011 calendar?

[–]elldan 1 point2 points ago

you can buy High Res guildwars two art at exact specifications to the size of your wall i believe, the GW2 page was advertising it a while back. A friend of a friend has this massive concept art of a Charr Warrior across his wall.

[–]platosghost 0 points1 point ago

I thought this was right out of second edition.

[–]VoduZ 0 points1 point ago

In-between the rocks sir!

[–]hostergaard 0 points1 point ago

Zorc and pals doing team-building exercises.

[–]herpderpfuck 0 points1 point ago

reminds me of the role playing board-game Talisman for some reason

[–]D_Robb 0 points1 point ago

Reason # 178 as to why I love the internet? This picture.

[–]tonker 0 points1 point ago

Did they hit "Crazy Stairs"?

[–]wintery_pandaland 0 points1 point ago

I have the frisbee all along! MUAHAHAHAH

[–]Twisted_Fate 0 points1 point ago

8/10. Chuckled heartily.

[–]sjtnufc 0 points1 point ago

Anyone have a link for the original?

[–]viskarenvisla 0 points1 point ago

Got a hardy lol from this one. Thanks!

[–]ProfessorCaptain 0 points1 point ago

repooooooost

[–]emagmind 1 point2 points ago

Using just the word repost in a comment is, in itself, a comment repost. Can we say hypocritical?

[–]Octopuns 0 points1 point ago

Hypocribical! DAMMIT.

[–]Harnellas 0 points1 point ago

Looked like a Keldon Warlord to me, but thats probably because I already saw a link on reddit pertaining to magic cards today.

Also, he was one of my favorites. :D

[–]genericwit -1 points0 points ago

In hindsight, that's why you don't let the guy who sucks at frolf use your favorite disc.

[–]websurfer09 -1 points0 points ago

The guy in the back obviously stole it

[–]Karmatastic -1 points0 points ago

It looks as if they want to hug each other.

[–]Xenosuckers -1 points0 points ago

fear the power of choas; UNDIVIDED! all my geek fibres are loving this =D been many a year since i played warhammer, until recently when i got the new space marine game! was awesome but yeah i found this fantasticly funny!

[–]stieruridir 5 points6 points ago

Guild Wars 2 actually.

[–]manwithfriends -2 points-1 points ago

You ruined it for me :'(

[–]cocquyt -3 points-2 points ago

The use of a dash rather than a comma is bothering me far more than it should

[–]TokyoXtreme -1 points0 points ago

A dash is equally correct instead of a comma, but using a hyphen instead of a dash? That's what's bugging me.

[–]cocquyt -3 points-2 points ago

Fair enough, but the lack of a space before the hyphen and a space after is driving me nuts.

[–]duckhunt37 -1 points0 points ago

you had one job...
