sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ha, I didn't even think of that. I was thinking it was more like in the "The Muppets". They seemed to have 1 actor/actress from every major television show in that movie.

Edit: Ok, guess I'll elaborate. The Muppets, the most recent Muppet movie, had Jason Segel and NPH from HIMYM, Jim Parsons from BBT, John Krasinki from The Office, Donald Glover and Ken Jeong from Community, Rashida Jones from Parks and Recreation (and The Office), and Rico Rodriguez from Modern Family. That's one (or more) from every hit comedy on the air. I can't find any connection from 30 Rock to The Muppets (the movie), but of course they had the 30 Rock episode with Muppets.

The Muppets, the most recent Muppet movie self-insertion Mary Sue fan-fic by Jason Segel featuring Muppets in supporting roles...

[–]bvanman 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

[–]mrhargett 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Except for the parts that are incontrovertible facts, yes. And points for making me read that in Jeff Bridges' voice.

[–]bvanman 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I mean, yes Segel's character certainly fits the Mary-Sue stereotype, but how else can you do a kid's movie, other than portraying his character that way? I thought the movie was more an homage to past Muppet movies and The Muppet Show. I do disagree that the Muppets had a supporting role in it though.

Edit: And I would hardly say Segel's character was lacking any noteworthy flaws. He was oblivious the whole time to his girlfriend's issues with being second fiddle.

[–]mrhargett 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The Muppet Christmas Carol. A masterpiece, respectful of the Muppet's legacy, even in light of it being the first feature after Jim's death while just irreverent enough to still be the Muppets. Age-appropriate, yet able to be enjoyed by all ages.

Segel's movie was a romantic-comedy about himself and Amy Adams where the Muppets were set decoration and b-plot, completely out of character, and the jokes were cheap and generic.

Here's the most telling part for me: Frank Oz walked out of the screening and had nothing pleasant to say, jabbing at the film while staying classy: "I wasn't happy with the script. I don't think they respect the characters. But I don't want to go on about it like a sourpuss and hurt the movie."

[–]bvanman 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Eh, that's still just opinions, even if includes Frank Oz's. In my opinion, it was three parts; the Segel/Adams romance, the Muppets getting back together and dealing with past problems, and the new Muppet finding his place in the world. It had the same level of cameos as their very first movie, it just also had a human main character as well.

I'd prefer Cerie for that role.

Jack's got a bad heart, Sawnson has a huge advantage. Of course, Swanson also lives off a diet of eggs, bacon and steak, so it might be a pretty level playing field after all.

[–]CaptCapsize 1 point2 points ago

This... is amazing. I feel that a very specific set of competitive events would have to be held in order to showcase these two great men in all their glory. It's obvious that something like debate or suit wearing would go to Jack, and carpentry or bacon consumption to Swanson; we need to find that gray area, like... staring contests (imagine the intensity!) or drinking chess (the bottle would probably be the only loser). WE NEED TO MAKE THIS A REALITY PEOPLE, START THINKING!

[–]provokedcarp 1 point2 points ago

That SNL that Alec Baldwin hosted when he and Tim Meadows were POWs and he (Baldwin) snuck in a gun in his anus, that was Alec in his prime he was incredibly funny. In the last 15 years it's just the same old tired nonsense and the humor is in inside jokes and obligatory remarks instead of insane realism he used to possess. He's a dying horse people.

Why is Reddit so obsessed with these shows? Yeah I agree, they're better than most of the other crap on network TV but so what? The massive collective hive-mind boner for these shows is getting ridiculous. If you break em all down they are just 3 different versions of the same thing that NBC has fooled you into thinking are unique and special and that the other networks are trying desperately to copy.
