One of my fondest childhood memories was my dog Maxz because of all the time we spent together laying around doing nothing. I wasn't a very confident kid, so I didn't have many friends. Throughout the social awkwardness of my youth, it was Maxz that was always there for me. Sure he was a dog and obviously we couldn't verbally communicate with one another. Perhaps it was this impossible connection that made our relationship awesome! Our bond was definitely undeniable.

On one particular winter night when the frigid air pierced with the strength of a thousand paper cuts. We decided to stay inside to enjoy the warmth of our blazing fireplace. I enjoyed a nice T-bone steak by the fireplace and shared it with Maxz. As the night drifted on, I grew increasingly sleepy. I resisted the great allure of the dream world, but to no avail. I couldn't resist anymore, so I caved. I fell asleep.

Suddenly I awoke to the sound of barking. Confused, I asked Maxz what was bothering him. He kept barking. I pet his head and tried to calm down. I looked around the house and everything was fine. As I was regaining my consciousness, I tried to see if he was hungry. At that moment, I remember eating the T-Bone steak and looked for the left-over bone. I turned and found it on the plate. As I held it towards Maxz, I said," Eat this." Immediately he swallowed the entire bone without chewing. Within seconds, he started to bark like an inflated tire. He couldn't breathe. I began panicking. I screamed out for my mom to come help. Nothing. Where was everyone? What am I going to do! I looked back to Maxz and he was laying on his side, lifeless. At that moment, an idea popped in my mind. I boldly thrust my hand into his throat retrieve the T-Bone blocking his airway. Too late. His life has escaped him...

As a result, I dedicated my life towards helping animals. 2 months ago, I was accepted to Harvard School of Veterinarian Medicine.
