From left to right:

Galileo Galilei, Marie Curie, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Isaac Newton, Louis Pasteur, Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein, Carl Sagan, Thomas Edison, Aristoteles, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Richard Dawkins und Charles Darwin.

oppenheimer and aristotle were the only 2 i didn't recognize. yay for bragging about getting the equivalent of a B!

[–]17Hongo 0 points1 point ago

Steno? Hutton? I must ask about their omission. Geologist, obviously.

[–]lightpollutionguy 3 points4 points ago

Newton should be centered IMO.

Instead he sits in Judas' seat... anyone have ideas for equivalencies?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

No room for Enrico Fermi or Richard Feynman?

[–]bigmexicanwoman 0 points1 point ago

Put Gregor Mendel in the Judas chair. Mendelian genetics is worthy of this table, but he did (probably) fudge the data.

[–]Ragnalypse 1 point2 points ago

Einstein fudged data to "prove" a static universe, what's good for the jesus is good for the judas.

Fair enough

[–]FuriousJ -1 points0 points ago

Newton did falsify data to justify his hypotheses, and stole Calculus from Leibnitz.

[–]lightpollutionguy 1 point2 points ago

and stole calculus from Leibnitz

Please elaborate on how Newton stole calculus. I think this guy would disagree.

Far be it from me to call NDT uninformed. And granted I am getting my information from an anecdote told by the chair of my undergrad math department. But Newton was a huge deal with all the big journals of the time. He was working on Calculus independently from Leibnitz but was behind. He used his connections in the journals to suppress a lot of Leibnitz's work that overlapped with his until he could publish it.

That being said Newton was still crazy fucking smart and shaped the field of science. I was just trying to justify him sitting Judas' chair.

I had actually heard about what you mention. One of my lower level calculus professors said Newton had been working on calculus at the same time as Leibniz but that their methods would contradict. I guess that makes sense with what you're saying about Newton suppressing overlapping theories.

Maybe they should be portrayed here as siamese twins.

so he was mark zuckerberg for his day? okay, I can live with that.

[–]Ragnalypse 0 points1 point ago

Einstein falsified his data to justify his hypothesis that the universe was static...

James Maxwell reigns supreme.

[–]17Hongo 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if he actually stole it; they came to the conclusion at the same time, but Newton took the credit. Leibnitz deserved as much credit as Newton for calculus.

I would argue that neither Neil deGrasse Tyson nor Richard Dawkins are anywhere close to belonging in that circle.

[–]lightpollutionguy 1 point2 points ago

I would say even Hawking is debatable. But I also think their societal impact and their contribution to the spreading of knowledge is unparalleled. The same way the apostles were messengers of the word of god.

EDISON BUT NOT TESLA? WTF

[–]rhinestoneclit 0 points1 point ago

made the banner on my timeline regardless

[–]Inquisitr 3 points4 points ago

I find your lack of Hitch......disturbing.

[–]Lysus 1 point2 points ago

It seems like this is more scientists, so I don't see the omission of Hitchens as a flaw. In fact, I question the inclusion of Edison, Sagan, and Tyson over, for example, Tesla, Maxwell, Faraday, or any of a number of other scientists who actually made great discoveries that changed the way we understand the world. I understand that Sagan and Tyson have made great strides in popularizing science and a rational worldview, but thematically they seem wrong for this piece.

the last supper setting makes me think there just might be a religious notion to this...just sayin

Tyson looks at Darwin with a horrified look......

[–]Mapekus 0 points1 point ago

is that FORREST GUMP?

[–]IOIOOIIOI 0 points1 point ago

Where's Feynman?

[–]redonkuless 0 points1 point ago

I think Darwin should be in the middle.
