Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Quick summary:

Wedding party goes to castle, bridge breaks, 9 meter foot (3 meter) fall , 7 injuries, injured party suing for a $54,000 usd.*

*Thanks to Eupho - they sued for 1 million crowns ~ roughly $54,000 USD Link to his comment

[–]The_Other_Angle 260 points261 points ago*

Moisture collecting on this rock must have been the cause of failure.

[–]downvotesmostcats 140 points141 points ago

this novelty account must take a lot more effort than most

[–]randumnumber 53 points54 points ago*

Holmes on Holmes over hear.. "If the contractor had just installed the proper 2 mil 1/2 inch polyvinyl moisture barrier we would not see this level of decay."

[–]yyx9 20 points21 points ago

I tell you I absolutely love this guy and his show. "You got a whirly bird right there, next to the vent. So air is coming in (big hand gestures) and being sucked right back (bigger hand gestures) out the vent. You know what I mean." He's so spot on and he really shows these shady contractors what's up, I love him. I also like that show with the muscly chef who fixes up restaurants for people. "This isn't how you prepare and sell food this is how you GO OUT OF BUSINESS, QUICKLY." So polite, earnest, knowledgeable, helpful, and prompt. These guys should team up and rebuild a restaurant from the ground up. I'd watch that show. Also love how Holmes calls beers wobblys.

[–]silver_ghost 7 points8 points ago

Holmes on Holmes is actually a pretty good gay porn movie.

[–]Rdlumps 11 points12 points ago*

Please fix your post. It is bothering the poop out of me.......

[–]jkkggg 8 points9 points ago

I "sea" what you did there

[–]eldy_ 2 points3 points ago

Can he hear ye?

[–]gotrees 2 points3 points ago

Thank you Sherlock Homes.

[–]Seasofhighfinance 1 point2 points ago

carpenter here. ½ inch polyvinyl isn't a thing. You are probably thinking of 2 mm moisture barrier. Also you wouldn't (shouldn't) use a polyvinyl barrier there. That is mostly used in walls.

The structure needs to be securely fixed, so some sort of poured cement foundation with an imbedded iron girder sticking up, would be the correct solution.

I'll just write you a bill for one hour of consultation plus transport, which comes out to 145$. Have a nice day.

[–]EvenDeeper 2 points3 points ago

According to the article, some aggressive fungi virtually ate the insides of the wooden planks...

[–]sandrocket 60 points61 points ago

3 meter fall.

[–]teamhex 28 points29 points ago

Yeah I was just going to say. There's no way that's 9 meters.

[–]zergoon 183 points184 points ago

Perhaps they fell 3 times.

[–]Apsis 66 points67 points ago

The eight of them fell a combined 24 meters. They're lucky to be alive!

[–]crow-bot 27 points28 points ago

This is brilliantly absurd. "Well kids, that sucked, but in order to convert to imperial we're going to have to climb up and do it another two times."

[–]SlugsOnToast 2 points3 points ago

Healing is easier than math.

[–]iainhasaface 6 points7 points ago

[–]t3yrn 4 points5 points ago

Meters, feet, what's the difference?

[–]damendred 39 points40 points ago

Not much, you just have to switch 'injuries' with 'death'

[–]Quaytsar 19 points20 points ago

A factor of 0.3048.

[–]Quaytsar 3 points4 points ago

Probably meant 9 feet.

[–]teamhex 7 points8 points ago

I'm an American, we never measure in meters, but....There's no way that's 9 meters. That would be close to 30 feet. Looks like maybe 7-9 feet tops

[–]ptabs226 3 points4 points ago

Yeah I'm stupid, I converted the meter to feet into my American brain and then wrote the wrong measurement down. 3 meters/~9 feet

[–]chopp3r 7 points8 points ago

This is how you dress for a wedding?

[–]Eupho 4 points5 points ago

You should clarify, the article says a million crowns, which is 54,000 usd.

[–]Soonermandan 2 points3 points ago

Couple million isn't bad for a wedding gift.

[–]vetinari 7 points8 points ago

Million Kc (CZK) is about 54K USD. Divided among four that sued, may not be enough as an income replacement during hospital stay.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

No way that's a 9 meters fall. 4 at most.

[–]ptabs226 1 point2 points ago

9 feet - three meter, my brain had a pregnant. I have corrected my post.

[–]did_you_read_it 21 points22 points ago

ouch. bride (presumably already ont he ground in the picture) broke a rib and a vertebra and had to be airlifted out. no notes on anyone else being injured badly.

[–]aaybma 6 points7 points ago

GIVE ME A MILLION DAMAGES

[–]The_Other_Angle 372 points373 points ago

[–]Artisane 26 points27 points ago

Its a shame. The metal bridge really ruins the appeal of a wooden cabin

[–]Baron_Tartarus 1 point2 points ago

It also ruins the appeal of this happening again, and being a jackpot of upvotes for another lucky redditor.

[–]violentacrez 25 points26 points ago

[–]Glass-of-Water 10 points11 points ago

There are nails sticking up where that guy in the white and blue is falling.. ouch

[–]Accolade83 1 point2 points ago

Before looking at this, I had no idea there were already two sets of feet on the ground below them for the rest of these people to fall on.

Also, GIANT NAILS FUCKFUCKFUCK

[–]allthatsalsa 126 points127 points ago

It's a good thing it's not in America, because whoever owns that cabin would be sued through the floor.

[–][deleted] 31 points32 points ago

This is why we can't have nice things.

[–]satereader 15 points16 points ago

Well the important part is that we all agree america is bad.

[–]Tarman83 1 point2 points ago

[–]thegreatopposer 379 points380 points ago

As they should be. That is the definition of negligence.

[–]Twelvey 263 points264 points ago

Everyone thinks that lawsuits are frivilous or silly until it's their family falling 9 ft or their spouse killed by a negligent doctor...

[–]shebillah 71 points72 points ago

Or when the skin on their legs gets burned so badly it adheres to their pants.

[–]Transubstantive 81 points82 points ago

I get all punchy when people mention frivolous lawsuits in the same breath as the McDonald's hot coffee case. So much misinformation about what actually happened to that poor woman. She didn't even want damages, she just wanted McDonald's to fix their coffee machines so it wouldn't happen to anyone else. The woman got like 3rd degree burns and she was the passenger in a stationary car, for fuck's sake.

[–]gerken 29 points30 points ago

Additionally the issue was not the hot coffee causing damage to that women. The issue was the amount of incidents that McDonalds expected and planned on paying for settlements, as opposed to fixing the core issue.

[–]Wetmelon 1 point2 points ago

Like that dude from Fight Club? :)

[–]Kaganda 6 points7 points ago

That case taught me an important lesson: When you spill coffee on yourself, immediately remove that clothing from direct contact with skin. Unfortunately I had a chance to put that knowledge to use about a year ago, but it kept me from getting anything worse than a first degree burn.

[–]jamesneysmith 14 points15 points ago

When people speak of frivolous lawsuits I think of cases like the woman who sued (or wanted to sue) the creators of Drive because the movie was not the car chase movie she expected. Lawsuits in and of themselves are not frivolous in the least. It's just when people sue due to their own ignorance is what often times leads to these waste of paper suits. The above incident of a bridge collapsing seems like a reasonable time to sue though.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I had a similar lawsuit against the movie "Barbarian hordes". I shudder to think about the legal snafu "the neverending story" might have been.

[–]tellhimhello 26 points27 points ago

[–]madbubers 5 points6 points ago

Hey wasn't that in GTA? ;)

[–]bpwnz 13 points14 points ago*

worth noting this is streaming on netflix right now.

edit: sorry, looks like it's not streaming anymore. (downvoting myself feels wrong)

[–]frickindeal 14 points15 points ago

steaming on Netflix

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I just checked. I don't see it.

[–]bpwnz 1 point2 points ago

huh crap, it was up last week. I'll check when I get home.

edit: actually, checked here from work. not streaming anymore.

if you have Reddit Enhancement Suite, it will remind you of your self-down-voting, forever!

[–]Kamarunga 1 point2 points ago

thanks for saving me the trouble to post this; trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBKRjxeQnT4

[–]Henry_Rowengartner 1 point2 points ago

Just watched this the other day on HBO; it's possibly the most eye-opening documentary I've ever seen. I had always bought into that whole idea that America was ridiculously frivolous with its lawsuits and that they were clogging up our nation's courts and costing us money, with the McDonald's "coffee incident" serving as the perfect example of everything that's wrong about it. Man, man was I wrong. Anyone who has a chance to or is interested in this at all should see this film.

[–]Stanley_Goodspeed 20 points21 points ago

Absolutely. Hold the party responsible.

[–]fjaradvax 1 point2 points ago

If it's a commercial operation, fair enough. If it's private, caveat ambulator.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

How much weight is a bridge expected to bear? (Honest question)

[–]NullPoint84 35 points36 points ago

through the floor

ಠ_ಠ

[–]punktual 5 points6 points ago

That's an idea I can get on board with.

[–]fman5k 6 points7 points ago

I think the court date is in the fall

[–]Strideo 1 point2 points ago

Hopefully the court's decision will have a lot of impact.

[–]BackwerdsMan 42 points43 points ago

They are demanding millions in compensation from the site owner. Lawsuit imminent.

[–]three29 24 points25 points ago

Well, luckily for the defendants that 1CZK = 0.05425 USD.

Say compensation is 1 Million dollars. That'd $54,250. Not too bad, given ur rotting bridge ræped 7 people (7750 per person).

And you still own a fucking CASTLE.

[–]TheJulie 24 points25 points ago

A nickel! You see this? I open my own hotel! [slap]

[–]infernalgeo 12 points13 points ago

One of the most underrated comedy movies ever.

[–]RandomMandarin 1 point2 points ago

(Eurotrip, for those who don't already know). Caught it only a couple weeks ago on the cable. Still funny as all hell.

[–]StarDXB 48 points49 points ago

Well, luckily for the defendants that 1CZK = 0.05425 USD. Say compensation is 1 Million dollars. That'd $54,250.

If the compensation is 1 million dollars, I'm pretty sure that it is $1.000.000.

[–]BeJeezus 8 points9 points ago

ræped?

[–]mrostate78 1 point2 points ago

He's probably British. They like those kind of letters.

[–]ebrake 13 points14 points ago

Its not just an American thing, in fact the family in that photo did sue for 1 million according to the linked stories.

[–]Oaden 10 points11 points ago

1 million local currency.

[–]satereader 2 points3 points ago

Sure but this is reddit. Everything bad must be ascribed to America whenever possible. We can't let facts get in the way of our anger and hate.

[–]gadorp 32 points33 points ago

People in other countries never sue anyone ever for any reason.

Also, I see what you did there. Hurrrr.

[–]Hobbersc 22 points23 points ago

Anyone interested in the common misperception that everyone in America is obsessed with suing people and that law suits are evil should look into "tort reform" and be terrified at corporations attempt to bar us from justice and fairness.

Also watch "Hot Coffee" a very interesting movie centered around the McDonald's hot coffee incident.

[–]Nickbou 5 points6 points ago

Tort reform isn't a bad thing, it just depends on what that reform is. It would be like saying look into "tax reform". There are numerous, varied views on the topic.

[–]AudibleChocolate 1 point2 points ago

You tried man, niton just threw that pun to the ground

[–]Koozey 1 point2 points ago

Ha... Through the floor.

[–]Xammax08 649 points650 points ago

Possible "Father of the Year" award to the guy in the blue shirt grabbing onto the little girl's ankles

[–]wand3r3r[S] 138 points139 points ago

it's my favorite

[–]BooRadleyBoo 109 points110 points ago

You'll be glad to hear he seemed to make it out okay: http://i.idnes.cz/10/071/cl6/ABR344ff7_182049_1521245.jpg

[–]mastermike14 179 points180 points ago

is that a firefighter....in shorts?

[–]IEatRosaryBeads 77 points78 points ago

Dammit bill! Again?

[–]remondo 21 points22 points ago

and sandals?!

[–]Ratlettuce 27 points28 points ago

yes, and he looks FFAAABULOUS!!

[–]vapros 9 points10 points ago

..with sandals?? Something isn't right here.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

Could be worse, at least he isn't wearing them with socks.

[–]Jest0riz0r 2 points3 points ago

meanwhile in the Czech Republic

[–]potacho 2 points3 points ago

Also if you look closely, both firefighters seem to be laughing.

[–]danc0nia 33 points34 points ago

Dude, we need more background on this. There had to be some broken bones...

[–]sil0 18 points19 points ago

[–]goletasb 68 points69 points ago

The bride was taken to the hospital by helicopter with a suspected spine injury

Totally read that as "bridge." Was hilarious.

[–]gl0bals0j0urner 8 points9 points ago

What a sad way to end their wedding day. I hope they all recover completely.

[–]jjungsch 6 points7 points ago

It is possible to also catch someone that small by the leg. I think he instinctively grabbed for anything as he fell, but she was probably coming down no matter what. I'm just throwing another angle this could be viewed from.

[–]akatherder 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for sanity. I can laugh at the idea but it's nothing but instinct to grab anything when the floor disappears out from under you.

[–]sheepman21 7 points8 points ago

Haha. I guess in this situation it's impossible to think straight?

[–]7fb2adfb45bafcc01c80 1 point2 points ago

From other pics in the series, he's crying over some woman in a stretcher. I'm guessing she's the one who is under him in the photo and he didn't want to land on her.

[–]RedditRage 1 point2 points ago

I don't think one has much control over the instinct to grab at something when falling. Well, unless you practice unexpectedly falling all the time and try real hard not to grasp at anything. Which obviously this guy has practiced for years, and yet he still is a jerk.

[–]Subhazard 1 point2 points ago

He's not, it's just a weird perspective.

[–]BlueFamily 68 points69 points ago

At first I was like "Cool stage picture" then I was like "oh shit"

[–]yourfriendkyle 33 points34 points ago

[–]Elvisisdead 48 points49 points ago

The guy on the far right seems to have the situation under control.

[–]ifucksandwiches 29 points30 points ago

Maybe he actually pulled the bridge apart. Anyone who wore cut-off sleeves to a wedding is up to no good.

[–]Squirrel_Nuts 15 points16 points ago

shakes beam
"GET OFF MY DAMN BRIDGE."

[–]WillBlaze 15 points16 points ago

Well to be fair there is a kid in a black shirt and a guy in a green shirt hanging off of that exact beam he is holding onto.

[–]rizwan_k 33 points34 points ago

hmm.. maybe if i hold this thing here.

[–]dudeabides86 14 points15 points ago

I wont get hurt

[–]rizwan_k 13 points14 points ago

He's off the bridge completely, it looks like he's trying to grab it. Although honestly, I would've done the same thing in the situation.

[–]whitmell 79 points80 points ago

FLY, YOU FOOLS!

[–]divinesleeper 11 points12 points ago

Survival of the flyest.

[–]X_Sync 18 points19 points ago

The guy/kid in the white shirt definitely didn't walk away from that fall. The height ain't much but that beam on the floor didn't help cushion the drop.

[–]m4verick03 18 points19 points ago

If you look closely I think someone is already at the bottom...Yeah thats gonna hurt.

[–]steakbake 14 points15 points ago*

Not only that, but it appears the person at the bottom actually broke the beam to that angle with their fall. OUCH!

Also, on closer inspection, i think there's actually two people already on the floor, as one of the shoes appears to be a ladies' high heal.

[–]WarMace 15 points16 points ago

Thats the bride. Broken rib and vertebrae.

[–]iwantthatpurpledrank 37 points38 points ago

That guy in the blue pants is about to have a bad time. The guy in the blue shirt should really let go of the 60 pound girl's ankle.

[–]grandwahs 8 points9 points ago

I sense some broken ribs for blue pants guy in the immediate future...

[–]GodlessMe 5 points6 points ago

That's a strong little girl. Be funnier if there was an action shot of her kicking him in the head making him let go, but still funny.

[–]thunder_gunned 14 points15 points ago

They look like a barrel of monkeys

[–]jessekenniston 37 points38 points ago

Guy grabbing onto the girl's leg only suffered a crack in his lower back. http://i.idnes.cz/12/033/org/KVI4215af_Aichel_4.jpg

[–]nodnodwinkwink 1 point2 points ago

Graphic.

[–]randommdude 51 points52 points ago

http://i.idnes.cz/12/033/org/KVI4215af_Aichel_4.jpg is this a joke or is this how emergency folks dress in czechoslovakia lol

[–]b1gtym1n 80 points81 points ago

they were working a bachelorette party and were closest to the scene.

[–]mamamamaa 31 points32 points ago*

I think those are some rural voluntary firefighters that were first at scene, not official ones...
Or it was very hot, then why to wear full uniform if it's not fire.
This one is fully dressed firefighter - http://i.imgur.com/4GIKT.jpg

These are official doctors/flight surgeons from bigger city - http://i.imgur.com/pFvCI.jpg

also Czechoslovakia is gone for 19 years.

[–]FrownSyndrome 9 points10 points ago

also Czechoslovakia is gone for 19 years.

This is fucking hilarious.

[–]Gordopolis 2 points3 points ago

Czechoslovakia not gone. Czechoslovakia live on in heart and ethnophobic joke.

[–]InadvertentOxymormon 3 points4 points ago

The Czech Republic and Slovakia have been separate countries for a while.

[–]zachander 1 point2 points ago

Those are Hot Cops.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points ago

oh fuck, that's sad, the kid is going to land on that wooden beam...some broken bones on those people for sure.

[–]gid13 4 points5 points ago

And quite possibly have people land on him after.

[–]Tokugawa 1 point2 points ago

Most old people who fall and break a hip die within like 24 months too.

[–]mikejac 7 points8 points ago

oh man, these people got so hurt.

[–]TheRedGerund 5 points6 points ago

"Sir, there's a chance that the wood on it may collapse at..." "Quiet, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it." <bows>

[–]bat-fink 6 points7 points ago

Pffh! More like "TRAP DOOOOR."

[–]BeatlesForSale 4 points5 points ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

[–]Hops_n_barley 4 points5 points ago

Hopefully all of those children arent seriously hurt

[–]Ch0s3n_0ne 3 points4 points ago

Lmfao I cant stop laughing at this. Each person is in their own world of chaos.

[–]Wizardis 8 points9 points ago

If you walk across old unstable bridges, you're gonna have bad time.

[–]Brancher 6 points7 points ago

I predict some lawsuits in the near future.

[–]Gurn-Blanston 8 points9 points ago

The article says they are suing for 1 million crowns, whatever that equates to.

[–]slmagus 13 points14 points ago

1M CZK to $54,250.5 USD

[–]vtslim 14 points15 points ago

that's nothing! They should hire American lawyers to teach them how to ruin small business and personal lives through litigation

[–]DarQraven 4 points5 points ago

Those American lawyers will still be bound by the laws and ways of handling these things in Czechia, so I doubt it would make a difference.

Unless you are implying that non-American lawyers are incompetent, of course.

[–]coachcorey17 1 point2 points ago

Team America! Fuck yeah!

[–]elliuotatar 5 points6 points ago

WHAAAAAAA?

That is ridiculously low. Even for a single person being hurt. What the hell?

[–]Eruonen 7 points8 points ago

No, that shit is just ridiculously high in the US.

[–]Gille12 2 points3 points ago

thats gonna hurt like hell

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

I had the hugest grin on my face when I thought to myself, "That's not funny, someone could have gotten hurt." I'm a walking contradiction.

[–]numer0u5ne55 4 points5 points ago

The kid in the camo pants is amazingly walking it off on pic #11 in the gallery on the original site

[–]MrMarshallmac 5 points6 points ago

look at the guy in the blue holding on to the child's leg. IF I GO WE ALL GO

[–]Cabana 4 points5 points ago

Someone just happened to be taking photos at the exact moment it broke?

[–]TheContrarian2 7 points8 points ago

Oh man, I hope they're all okay. That one dude looks like he landed on his back on that beam. Poor kids. I agree with Tiggity-T, not funny when kids are involved.

[–]drewmerc 11 points12 points ago

need background story on this one

[–]damendred 45 points46 points ago

Family walked across a bridge that couldn't support their combined weight.

[–]Tgg161 63 points64 points ago

Whoa, whoa. Slow down, Shakespeare.

[–]stevencsat 8 points9 points ago

looks almost like the strip club from Porky's

[–]WarMace 4 points5 points ago

Upvote for referencing the movie that corrupted me as a child.

[–]frameRAID 9 points10 points ago

They're not falling. They're jumping backup to repair the broken bridge.

[–]HandMeMyThinkingPipe 2 points3 points ago

The decisive moment

[–]DoctorFaust 2 points3 points ago

Thats why you always pay the troll toll

[–]up_n_atom 2 points3 points ago

I would pay good money to see this happen. Hilarious.

[–]Tiggity-T 7 points8 points ago

Can't find it funny when I see kids involved.

[–]MSPaint_Everything 30 points31 points ago

[–]skillet42 5 points6 points ago

[–]babaganushh 1 point2 points ago

Oeps!

[–]conspiracy_thug 1 point2 points ago

reading this with a stereotypical "semi-drunk russian guy speaking english" accent in my mind, the article made me lolol.

[–]Targetbag01 1 point2 points ago

I like how the guy in light blue is holding onto that kid's feet...Hope the kids were ok though.

[–]randumnumber 1 point2 points ago

Its like god is playing the barrel of monkeys game.

[–]cowboy_killer 1 point2 points ago

notice how the fate of the little girl in black rests on that guy holding the bridge

[–]ballstein 1 point2 points ago

Hopefully no one was hurt.

[–]ChickenWithAChainsaw 1 point2 points ago

The kid on the far left hanging on LIKE A BOSS

[–]Robotlolz 1 point2 points ago

At first I thought the people in the photograph had arranged themselves to look like they were falling for a photo op. Like the "broken" bridge was designed to look like it was in the middle of falling, so people could pretend to fall and have a laugh. Guess not.

[–]Stoic_the_Vast 1 point2 points ago

casualty report, sergeant...

[–]pauldoubleyou 1 point2 points ago

TUNNEL SNAKES RULE

[–]marishtar 1 point2 points ago

Oh so that's what a lawsuit looks like!

[–]the_sam_ryan 1 point2 points ago

How did they get that exact picture?

As long as no one was injured, etc... That is one awesome photo

[–]Cubezz 1 point2 points ago

Someone needs to photoshop the little running bubble girl with a detonator in her hand.

[–]ReigningTierney 1 point2 points ago

Is that...is that a large man dangling from the legs of a 7-year-old holding on the the railing for dear life?

I think the real world would be much more exciting if there were random pitfalls like this. Much like Animal Crossing perhaps.

That kid in the black is going to be a super ninja one day. Not only did she manage to catch onto the railing, but she's holding up some mother fucker below him.

When I was 12, I was in the attic of my parents' garage, and stepped on a weakly-nailed floor panel, and it broke free (with me on it!). I blanked-but when I came to, I was holding onto the 2x4 frame of the now open hole in the garage ceiling, dangling over the 2-story drop over the stairs to the basement. My sister heard me yelling, and helped me get down.
